So I saw these guys on SNL the other night. I usually fast forward as SNL is putting on people I've never heard of. As I was getting ready to FF on this band's performance; something caught my eye, so I watched them perform. Yes they have a very Led Zep influence, but I also heard a lot of other classic rock band and blues influences. Fellas it's nice to see new bands actually writing and playing rock and roll! You've earned a middle aged fan.
The people comparing them to LZ listened to Safari Song and Highway Tune and stopped there. There is ALL KINDS of influence evident in their style. I hear the influence of LZ, Muddy Waters, Johnny Lee Hooker, Tom Petty, Rush, Triumph, and southern rock in general. They're not the first band to be accused of being a "Led Zeppelin knockoff." Aerosmith went through the same crap early on too. As for Led Zeppelin, they literally STOLE songs and pieces of songs that weren't theirs. Just google Led Zeppelin lawsuit and see what you find. GVF actually obtained permission from the copyright owners to record "Change is Gonna Come" and "Meet You On the Ledge."

A couple thoughts.
The singer has great range. There's definitely talent all around as far as the band goes, but I think the comparisons to Zeppelin are a complete insult to Zeppelin and to people who have actually LISTENED to Zeppelin. Zeppelin's musicianship was unparalleled. You had basically had four members with virtuoso talents in their respective field. Even compared with today's "talent" they would blow them to shit.
That being said...
It's refreshing to see ANYONE from this soulless, heartless, talentless generation of misfit wannabe "musicians" puking all over the stage on America's Got Talent, to be able to play instruments other than a background track rapping or just "singing."
I'm pretty sure they're the greatest band to ever walk the earth to kids, who've never heard the greatest band to ever walk the earth. It's better than Justin Bieber or mumble rap or Dub step.
There's a part of me that is glad that there are not more singers as talented as him. Makes it that much more special when they do come around

The first time I saw Greta Van Fleet live I cried my a*** off because I felt hope for us....we are humans after all and didn't forget how to feel music and play instruments....I fuc****ing love this band now and I'm so grateful... hope they come to Argentina as a main band

What is cool is that Led Zeppelin rose to fame at a time when the world was ready for them and they were not hindered with familiarity and saturation of the genera they would eventually posses , in other words they were not hindered by some of the hurdles GVF has had to overcome , all this music has been done before and done to death for decades , the fact that these guys are catching on so quickly despite that, is testament to just how talented they are , the cohesiveness of their sound the lyrics melodies tempo timing beat inflections and blazing stunningly unique vocals by Josh are what make GVF able to bulldoze through a jaded audience deadened by decades of musical mediocrity and ignite the excitement in people garnishing reactions such as the ones on this blog, to simply say as some have that GVF is reminiscent of Led Zeppelin and that is their appeal is crushingly marginalizing, These guys are on fire and I cant wait to hear what comes next. One of Elon Musk's favorite hobbies is playing videogames, and there are currently hundreds of Twitch streamers and RUclipsrs making 6-figures *every month* playing games... I don't see how this comment is relevant to a few kids making great music.
