That's amazing. Thank you for the tour. I have a big dream of a wood structure green house, but we are older and don't have too many volunteers to help build it. I like that you show us clean up isn't as daunting as it seems.
Finally I got my berry bushes and canes out of the boxes and into some smart pot. I couldn't have done it without my greenhouse. The weather is slowly warming up. We got gold ball size hail stones tonight. I'm glad I got the greenhouse.
It's funny how I was literally thinking about building my own greenhouse just 2 weeks ago. I live in Florida so, due to hurricane season and sporadic thunderstorms that often include wind gusts, I don't feel comfortable with having a store bought greenhouse. I definitely would need something beefier that the wind can't lift up and deposit on my neighbors yard....or roof 😅 thanks for the tips!
Do you have a video showing how well (or not) polycarbonate panels are holding up all these years later? We have our cedar structure up, next is the roof and walls, but we haven't quite made up our minds on exactly what type of panels to go with. We're out in VA
Love your greenhouse! My husband is going to build us one so I can stop using our sunroom for my gardening shenanigans🤣. Can you tell us what siding you used and if you had any of particular wood working plans for the build? Once again great job and thank you for all the knowledge you share!
That is a great looking greenhouse you built! A cement floor was the way to go.If I was about 50 years younger, I'd have a custom greenhouse. I would design it and build it myself. Maybe in my next life lol. I do have a small portable one on casters that I got a couple of years ago. I wheeled it out to the patio and started some vegetables. The Rosa Bianca eggplant germinated 1st. Just started more tomatoes today, Roma. Get it built while you are young! You will have a much longer time to enjoy it. Though I do enjoy the small one now that I'm retired. Great advice Jeff! Take care!
Thank you so much for this video! I'm in 8b and I've been going back and forth on where to put my greenhouse. This just confirmed where on our property to put it and which way to face it.
@@TheRipeTomatoFarms most definitely. We still have to fell a bunch of pine trees and draw up the design but I'm most definitely excited to get started now!
Your green house is awesome. I only have a small balcony but I still bought a decent size walk in green house. It takes up half my deck but so worth it. I even brought it inside during the winter and grew leafy greens and herbs. So fun.
Spot on tammy! Every spring the greenhouse starts out spotless.....without fail, every winter, it looks like it was hit by a tornado! 10 season in a row, why change now? LOL
Our greenhouse came with the house when we bought it- it's a 1930s hour but we think the greenhouse is from about 1970. It's an aluminium frame one and we've only had to replace 1 or 2 panes over the years. It's well worth keeping track of your local classifieds (gumtree/Craigslist/Kijiji) as old single pane windows come up more often than you might think. Use them to build cold frames or even part of a greenhouse!
This video encouraged me to build a small green house (specially with the cost of materials now). Also, if I succeed and looks as wonderful as yours I will make it bigger eventually. Thank you for the height idea. I will add a foot to my height and calculate the dimensions from there. Fantastic video!! 👩🌾🪴
Yo Jeff I look forward to the day when I put in a small green house, last year I used a hoop house, gonna do a better job this year and frame it and install a hinge to protect greens better this year. Did great with kale and cabbage. Probably gonna retire in a few years, then it's game on building my green house. Timothy
Good video, Jeff. Thank greenhouse of that magnitude would not fit into my landscape scheme very well. But, I have plans for a small, mobile, structure that would work. It can be combined as a dog pen chicken coop greenhouse etc. It has wheels, and can be moved around from place to place… and can be used to actually create new garden beds. So Id probably go with that. Here in zone 8, my backyard doesn’t fit much else. And when do you move south…. Zone 9?
@@TheRipeTomatoFarms that is it in a nutshell. Imagine if you raise chickens in them and threw straw in behind them for a couple of months. Then, raise it up on the wheels, roll it off to the next spot down the line,… and you have an instant growing bed in your garden; mulched and . There is actually a permit culture plan that goes with it that includes using it as chicken brooder, chicken coop, greenhouse, rotating garden bed system. Pretty cool actually
So I'm just beginning a greenhouse build...my husband is helping. I sourced old wooden multi pane windows. My question for you is how should I go about ventilating? I was thinking of hinging a couple windows on each side but don't know how I would keep them open. I was thinking friction hinges but they are really expensive. I don't want to prop open with just sticks and take a chance of winds blowing them and windows slam shut. What are your thoughts?
Amazing - I only have space for a 8' X 6' aluminium framed greenhouse - I'm 6' 3" tall, so remove bits of my head if I don't wear a hat on entry & exit LOL Are the metal devices set into the roof for ventilation? Never seen those here in UK
Oh, I feel you on that one! I've clunked my head more than once on the doorway entrance! Yes, the whirly things at the top are heat vents. They are used on actual house roofs to vent out hot attics, but also work in greenhouses! 🙂
This video was slightly underwhelming. Dobyou have snother in which you discussed cost, plans, etc.? I really love yours it looks more simply than most with more light. Im sure that costs a decent amount though. When nade properly, whats the difference in tempature and hunid youll get in a greenhouse?

Definitely go polycarbonate if you can. Easy to replace the panels and 100x more durable than glass or plastic! 🙂

Right on David, I love the idea of mobile greenhouses....almost like transitory high tunnels that serve a purpose and then move on. Very smart.
