A great show, but Doo Wop isn't dying. Allthough I am with one foot in the grave (62 years) 50's DooWop,Rock&Roll and Rhytm& Blues are still my favorites after almost 50 years. Keep going like you do.❤❤🎉🎉🎉😅😅😅😅😅😅
Thats half of my wantlist right there. And half of my entire collection in total… just in VG+/NM. Insane!!
What an epic and historic collection.
Also very exotic for a guy like me from Scandinavia to see all those orig. US copies… and in such a great condition.
Congratulations on the buy.
Im completely blown away. WOW!!
Cheers🥳
May I say something? I've watched your videos. And I commend you for paying these sellers the amounts you do. I've dealt with re-sellers who would only pay maybe .25c per album there. Even stores on youtube here, they'd hem & haw about "my overhead, my gas, my employees", just to lowball these poor people. You're an A+ dealer in my book.
Yes...overhead does exist... if u can spend that much on vinyl of this era I'm guessing u have the clients lining up outside ur door... good luck
22k for 2000 records is higher than I would pay. I would say cheaper totles I'm paying $1 per and 35-50% on stuff over 20 bucks. There's good stuff in there, no doubt, but also a lot of junk. Seems like a lot of time to recoup investment and make a couple bucks.
It’s about the quality of the collection. Most people don’t have collections that are stuffed with high end titles .
I’m sure there’s been plenty of collections that this dealer either offers .25 cents a record or passes on . He’s just showing you the really good ones he finds.
I live in Florida and I’ve paid up to $8,000 for collections and have resold them to other dealers for $16,000.
The dealers who buy them off me know that every record has been inspected and low grade ones discarded. I also make a catalogue of inventory on discogs so they can preview it .
So when a dealer is confident in the collection it’s easier to pay up for it.
He never said he payed 22k for it. He said it was a 22k collection! I'm sure he payed this person well, but maybe not that much. Than again maybe he did. Only he knows and that's fine.
Not sure if this was mostly click bait
Another 50s and 60s collector here and im only 21 lot of those records in that video are grail records pretty great still need many of them haha
Nice. I am 56 and when I was 21 I used to love music from 50s 60s. Now I am listening stuff from 60s, 50s, 40s, 30s and even 1920s.
The guy from the video could give his collection to you when he dies because you can appreciate that type of Music. Just God knows what will happen with that collection in 40 years time
Dayum! You got an enormous collection of old school rock, doo wop,r&b and a lot of old EPs in good condition!
I’ll never understand people buying amazing records and never listening to them and keeping them sealed. I play everything I buy. I guess one mans loss is another mans gain.
some like music, some like having things to procure and sit on shelves
Some are like that , like with those toys you see still in packaging an ive opened mine but that why you get them to play with an the packaging went in the bin, some just like to get them and unopened there worth more.
These people are in almost every collectibles market , normally lonely middle aged men collecting things to fill a void but the more they collect the less happy they become. Something we can never understand. It’s sad.
Man... beautiful stuff. Had my heart pounding 🤣 $22k is a good deal. I don’t know if people fully grasp how hard it is to find this stuff in this condition, especially this much of it.
Seems like you have a reputation for super clean stuff. Congrats man. That’s some sweet stuff!
Thank you. Six years of having a store 85% of those records never walked through the door once! This collection fills a lot of holes on my shelf.
My two favorite record store owners right here... Both shops are completely different but have killer stuff. Thanks to the both of you
Omg! Amazing!
Beautiful collection! I was drooling when you got into the EPs. Many rare records in there that I have never seen in 50 years of crate-digging. I commend you for selling these in your store and not online. I once went into a large, well known record store in Pittsburgh, gave one of the staff members my want's list of 100+ LPs. He looked at it and said "Stuff like that comes in and it all goes online, we don't put it out in the store." Disappointing to them dig through a lot of common stuff in their bins.
All the LP's stay in store but there is almost zero market for EP's and singles in AZ. They only occasionally sell to out of towners.
Funny you mentioned not much in the way of beatles, ive aways found that rockabilly/early rock and roll collectors, myself included generally aren’t Beatles fans and dont focus on anything after 63 or 64, obviously there’s always exceptions
Now that's a great collection a lot of history in that collection now that's the kind of guy I would have loved to hang out with a real music lover😀😀👍
I met Peter Criss at Rockaway records in the early 90’s, when I was like 6 or 7 years old. My family went there every weekend to buy cassettes and later cds. Miss that place.
Used to buy from Rockaway many years back . What happened to them. Rog. Pacific sunset records.
CD's are the new what records were in 90's. Never dreamed or imagined vinyl would be back with a vengeance in 2022!! At least something is going right in today's world
what lucky you are to live in your country for all this fabulous records !!!!!!!
Those early Stones albums, Wow! Some of those 1950's albums are rare finds! 4:24 "2 eye": has to do with the U.S. Columbia record label designs, the 2 eye refers to the Columbia logo appearing 2 times. One example of the distinction is Bob Dylan's first album. Earlier copies have the 6 eye logo and are highly sought after. At 12:39 Deon Jackson's, "Love Makes The World Go Round" is a gem! 18:39 Terry Knight and the Pack, not a good album but Terry Knight went on to become the manager for Grand Funk Railroad. 22:01 The Crazy World of Arthur Brown is a find!
Amazing find. Hard to find in such great condition. There is a lot of history there.
I was a d.j in the 90 's and other d.js were dumping all thier vinyl for c.ds I used to pick up massive collections for under $300 at that time the fleamkts were a gold mine especially for large collections I remember dealers would bring trailers of records and just sell them at bulk if you can haul them you can have them it was insane
Hello Mike, too bad he wasn't collecting Jazz back when he first started collecting that would be amazing collection.
No Jazz and only one or two blues albums. Sad
Thats the saddest thing: one day when we die, all our rare records will be goin all over :(
Hopefully to the right person ca I appreciate
@@zampieritto Yes my friend, hopefully to the right person who cherish and appreciate the vinyl records
that's not sad - it's inevitable. In some case to the garbage bin.
Excellent record collection, all sealed, I'm totally blown away.
Not all sealed about 15% of it was sealed. Another 30% was sealed when he opened it.
Man, I bought a collection about 18 months ago for $50 that the owner just wanted to get rid of. I offered $200 and they countered with the $50. Total of about 600 records and a LOT of the ones in that collection you bought. Some surprisingly valuable stuff in there.
amazing that still happens , good score
A lot of the value is in the quality of the vinyl. Many records from that era lived a hard life.
Oh geez, saw this video - went to your discogs store and now I have like $300+ of records in my cart, lol!!
That "Rock" album by Bill Haley and the Comets is considered the first 12 inch compilation Album of Rock and Roll music. Put out in 1954. Lots of great songs on there and still valuable to my knowledge.
You're got a really great find that I only recall that Mike Whitlock and RIP Lay from Concord California would share with me their finds back in the late Seventies and early 80s. Im a collector since that era and will keep my collection and only pass it on to my son who is also in to this hobby. Great Great find. Hope people appreciate the history in all those Albums!!!
I've been in Rip's store - what a great guy
Daniel thanks ❤.
Fascinating just seeing someone else's collection, people that have some varied tastes. I can only think he gave up on R 'n' R, soul and went rapcentric at the frustrations of modern living or he had a cellophane sealed fetish! No, people's tastes change and it all borrows off each other. Paid alot though beyond my financial capabilities. Thanks for showing.
Really beautiful collection! I saw you whiz by The Teddybears. Always wanted that album. Has always been way out of my price range. Especially the stereo version. Was one of the 1st rock LPs released in true stereo. Amazing collection!!
Wish I was closer to your location to purchase some of this you have some amazing records here and i still love the doo wap
I picked up a clean copy of that Jack Scott lp for a quarter a week ago at a thrift store.
Wow that collection and the condition everything is in is just amazing. If I lived near the store I'd be racing to get some of that stuff.
There's artists in the collection I didn't expect to see like Metallica, Pearl Jam, and Katy Perry
some great 50s rock n roll and doo wop.wish i had lots of money i buy them all. all the best from edinburgh scotiand
Arthur Brown and Otis are rare in near mint or sealed. To have so many sealed albums and never listened to it's kind of a shame. It's one thing to have a backup of a classic album. Seems that this collector was all about the show .You're right I think he stocked up in the 90's and just waited to long to sell. The Doo- wop is a tough sell for sure. Surprising that with so much Soul and Blues there is very little Jazz. Maybe the Jazz was not offered for sale ? Very interesting thanks for sharing...
Love the music you buy. If you buy it for what you think others believe it is, don't.
Good to see Mike get excited about a record. It probably doesn't happen often. That Maggot Brain seemed to get his juices going .
An avid lp collector with over 15,000 lps in my collection. Question... When we pass......... There is not a hair on our head, that we can take to the grave. A lot of fun collecting through our life time, that is all. Damn!!!
A taste thats just about as diverse as mine.
Great collection. In the UK this stuff still sells easy, including the doo wop.
I do not think if the actual record is on the back of the cover if it is sealed..
Those EPs! Fabulous.
Soul stuff has definitely has its space now a days
im 18 and know all of these singers i only collect 50s/60s/motown/doo wop finding this stuff in the UK is so hard. A HARD SELL - i wouldve been there straight away
Being one of the younger end of 50s and 60s collectors, sure I was salivating at seeing these. But as you stated, much of the mileage of these albums have come and gone. Much of this music can be found on almost budget priced CDs today, especially from companies like One Day music. It’s a safe and sure bet that most of this collection will wind up in Europe and Japan, as that scene never really died.
Wow thanks for sharing. Some terrific stuff in there. Got to mention the ruby andrews first l.p was sweet 🔥 would love to dig thru those 7s. Best wishes from the u.k 😃👍
Hi. I have a LP with a blank white label and thru many hours of research I still can't find out the name of the LP. On the deadwax side A it has LP 101-A and also A-11706. Then on side B on the deadwax it has LP 101-B and also B-11707. There are 14 songs on the vinyl and the artist's that are on the vinyl are Andrew Tibbs, The Diamonds, The Five C's, The Feathers, The Starlings, The Moonglows, The Hurricanes, The Swallows, The Crescents, and The Teardrops. The quality of the sound is OK, but the vinyl is in excellent condition. If you can tell me about this then I would be so happy. There is no record of it on Discogs either. Thanks for any help you give.
Outstanding all the Elvis!!!!!
He Said unfortunately the do whop scene is kinda dying. QUICK. 🤣 It is Amazing he has Filter's Short Bus and Live in that collection. I get it though. I have everything from Anthony Phillips to Tupac to Rush in my collection. Very cool.
Amazing looks like my collection minus thousands of Eps .I hope my collection will get to good hands.Im sure you can upgrade your lps .
Another great pop. I actually have the Duane Eddie 45.
I can’t wait to see this!!!!
ALOT of that soul stuff was available in fantastic condition at thrift stores in the late 80's into the 90's. I owned about 5 feet of it, all picked up at Salvation Army and the like.
Sold for $500 a few years back.
Yeah Mike,
The mid 90's and the early 00's were the heydays of record collecting
Everything was $1.00 or "gimme 20 bucks for all of them"
And definitely hard to find good copies of James Brown. Those records were partied with like they were supposed to be
I guess I am going to have to make a road trip to your store! Great Collection!
Always fun when Mike buys a collection.
Im thinking after watching this collection oh shit someday my collection will be like this after ive left this earth SUIT , I am leaving my 30 year old collection to my son. but i will enjoy them until that day comes around.
I would appreciate a vclt of getting ready by the temptations
Doowop will never die!
I love New Orleans music. Would love the Aaron Neville you passed by.
Insane collection I be like a little kid in the candy store
I’ve got all those old 50’s and 60’s in my collection and I’m only 41, starred collecting at 16
Mike I will be coming in to check out those Motown releases!!! I can't wait until you put them all out.
I would kill to have 90% of these records. I dont need all of those multiple copies, just one solid copy of each and I'd be good. I'm 38 years old, and grew up on the tail end of when radio stations played music from the 50's and 60's. Didnt start buying records until the late 90's. I think often about all of those great records I skipped on back then because I thought, oh I see this all the time, I'll get it some other time. Now all of those records are gone and if you can find them they certainly arent $3.99 anymore. I love seeing the LP's in this video for so many R&B & doowop singles that I have in my collection. I would probably stop buying records if I had this collection. So many good records.
I have a Maggot Brain OG in perfect shape all around.
Send it to me for free
G'day l just want to know how much did you pay and how much do you think you will get for this collection if you don't mine me asking!! Cheers
God bless you sir, i hope my collection goes for over my funeral. Thank you for all you do. I’d like to take a pilgrimage to your system and hear what you’ve built . I know that sounds weird, but what’s the point of building an institution if people aren’t trying to be a part?
'take it with you'... i'll give personal gifts too the many... but the rest 🔥 with me... 👋💀
love the eps
Love your videos. If there is some delicious Little Jimmy Scott, please let me know, I will come on down to Phoenix. ( I been meaning to visit you anyhow )
A collection I bought for the store. But first for my collection. 😆
paid $115 , wife sold for $10 , makes you think , amazing the collector paid good money in his later years when he bought so many cheap in the 90's ... the 90's were the best , pre computer collecting
Don't think I'll ever understand buying this many records and keeping them sealed. Just collecting for the sake of collecting. It's just a shame to me lol - I hope he had some copies to listen to
Judging by his notes he bought a lot of records sealed to open and listen to them. I’m guessing he just didn’t get around to some of them.
How many? The problem is to listen to all of these. At least it was sold to a person that appreciates the collection.
He could find all that stuff on Amazon if bought 6 years ago for 3 dollars or less per item if was CD.
Very nice collection.
Love to have the Buddy Holly
Most i want badly specialy those 50’s albums 😜👍
Wow! Pretty awesome. A few months to go through these? You're gonna need to hire some help!
Love this long form "perusing" video. Its like record schoo. Thanks for sharing.
Amazing stuff pretty cool
Are you still have records for sale???? I'm interested
hi, amazing! the real question is how much you pay?
22k
Wowzers!
Didn’t you overpay for this?
dude you must be rich AF :D
He is
Awesome
Fucking baller collection. That guy must of been pretty cool.
Can you tell me what "open from new" means. Thanks.
I would want to get some of the Elvis Lp’s
Please can you do a thriller shoot out!
I would like a vclt of some of your supremes records
Especially that sealed supremes sing Holland dozier Holland
Fantastic
Those Chuck Berry are super rad! This is really good content.
WLP Maggot Brain?? Wow
That’s what I said too about the Maggot Brain.
On my channel I throw these records like frisbees ...
More of a collector, less of a listener..most of the good stuff was sealed. I wonder if he told his wife about how much it was worth before he passed.
LOL. True. Because I just could afford to buy records in my middle 40 years old. Then I bought 500 CDs, I spent 5000 dollars and I could only manage to listen to 5 or 7% of them. Then I got more 200 I downloaded. Once I moved country I threw in the rubbish.
Now I just use those app and I can have any album any music for free 😊
probably a ball park and she probably looked at all his notes
I don't understand keeping records sealed! To me (just my opinion), that those sealed records could be enjoyed by someone who needs a clean copy! I mean to me it's a pure waste, its like the record companies keeping those master tapes and not EVER releasing them for reissues! There just sitting in the vaults wasting away, not doing anybody any good! In my opinion it's a waste!
Exactly what I was thinking. Music is meant to be played; life is meant to be lived. As Art Blakey said, “I’ve never seen an armored car following a hearse, man.”
Some people just collect and do not listen because they want to hand it down as an inheritance to their kids and I will confirm that you can get top dollar for sealed records. I recently sold 1500 sealed records and got $18,500 for them and I still have another 4000 sealed that I have no desire to sell. I also have 2000 quality used records that are not sealed that I listen to. Who has the time anyway?
6:16 The VMP black vinyl edition of Eddie Floyd's Knock On Wood is fantastic. But generally, what a strange collection. That Butthole Surfers LP was definitely the outlier of the bunch. How old was the guy?
In his late 60’s
@@TheInGroove Fudge, that’s me!
Did you overpay? 🤔
Always kind of strange, when you know that someone has laboriously put this together. And then a reseller picks it up, makes a video, and sells it all. Like an old voluptuary groping a young girl.
What do you suggest Mike do? Pay the lady $22K, then make a shrine to the guy’s life and burn his collection in a pyre in tribute to Shiva?
What do you have left from Connie Francis? an avid Connie Francis collector from Greece
Damn bro😃✌️
Saw the Grand Funk Railroad "On Time" in the flip. Try and find a clean copy of that original press!
Can I buy that Toto MFSL?
