Welcome to Chinese Entertainment Update December 6th 2019 edition. Here are some stories in Chinese drama land that caught my attention in the past week and I thought I'd share it with you guys.

Character interactions and the writing, and the music and the locations and the costumes and the damn acting are all so great.
I couldn't get into the fight scenes and some CGI but the great outweighs the bad.
Still is popular... and it's the 1 year anniversary of the show 💜

2nd - based on a BL novel named as "Grand master of the demonic Cultivation"
3rd - it's characters already has a huge fan base.
4th - the story is captivating because of the two characters are very charming😍
5th - story is made for all , isn't just bl but ultimate bromance
6th - OST is key, you gotta love the duet between wang yi bo and xaio zhan....

The bromance series is far more than it's BL novel roots. As Marcus has said, the series contains enough subtle references to the BL aspect that it doesn't alienate it's BL fan base, but IMHO it isn't a BL production, it's a bromance, and that can capture the attention of a far broader audience.
I feel like the characters of the drama are also attracts people, for example, me. I find it so amusing that every characters have their own interesting stories, even the villians have such captivating stories which makes you want to know why tf they did all the shitty things. Wei Wuxian is such an amazing character, I find Lan Zhan's way of thinking and tiny actions so endearing, Jiang Cheng's character is also very unique (to me). I am so in love with the characters.
It has such broad spiritual appeal in the whole World because it is more than BL and Bromance. Xiao Zhan and Wang Yibo through their unique acting and charismas touched the Universal . They are Ying and Yang. They are Anima and Animus of Young. There is constant Charisma in all characters and actors of this life saving drama which is rare. We enter here New Church of The Untamed. So it's good we attend our masses and find new connection with the Community of The Untamed.
I was one of the people who specifically asked Marcus to make this video too. Yes I really like The Untamed's story, the two leads and the supporting characters and the music. I really like WWX, he's very multidimensional.

I can't get over The Untamed. I also loved the audiodrama and the novel. Masterpieces.
Besides being incredibly gay, which was the sole reason I first watched it for; I can say it impressed me in many more areas. Let me count some of them for you.
- Great integration of both fantastic elements and mystery / crime elements
- A+ Character development
- Multidimensional characters
- Impressive and aesthetically pleasing visual effects, costumes, design, craftsmanship, etc
- Detail. So much detail
- GREAT ACTING and ACTORS/ACTRESSES. I've seen behind the scenes videos of them practicing the instruments that they play in the show, practicing fight scene choreography. So much effort has gone into it.
- Interesting storyline. I personally love how everything was connected to the flashbacks and those were not just used to develop the romantic story.
- Also, gay. Yes. That's the most important thing. I could sense multiple lgbt+ couples in the show. There was some kind of chemistry between Zewu Jun and Jin Guangyao, as well as Xiao Xingchen and Song Lan too. Don't think they were just very close friends. So wangxian wasn't the token gay couple, haha.
Anyway, this is my interpretation of it. I have enjoyed this terribly. I started with the manga, and now that I've watched the series as well, I'm planning to consume any and every single version of the MDZS universe and then re-consume it all over again.
The teeny teenyyy details, its so thoughtful of the producers and directors! It never fails to amaze me.

Beside the story and the almost perfect set, The other reason why The Untamed is so popular is no other than the Chemistry of the two male leads. Whether they are Fujoshi or just straight fans, no one can deny the good chemistry between the two male leads. How they can bring the character alive. And since it's from BL novel adaption, I have to praise the crew for their hard work to be able to embrace both straight fans and couple fans. While the couple Shippers see them as romantic partners, the straight fans can see them as a very best friend who protect each other and walking together to whenever the chaos. Aren't the meaning of best friend similar with lover? Best friend is someone who can accept for whoever you are. And isn't that what should a true love do? I even start losing count to how many times I've watched it. Haha.

I think (in my opinion) what we love about "The Untamed" is that the story just doesn't revolve around Wei Ying and Lan Zhan another character story were exposed not that much but it will give you an idea about their character. The moral lesson also and of course the great portrayal of both actors to the character, they really give justice to them.

Need to explain why people would watch it so many times! For me, the mystery part kept me watch the 2nd time to get all the hints happened in the beginning. While watching the 2nd time, the tragic story line kicked in. All the emotion started to build up with each character. Then the 3rd time just to hang on to the emotions the characters expressed and still the story line was so intriguing with each characters. Found so many scenes that is more emotional then I thought b4. Then 4th times, I got into little details of how the story and the scenes reflect social agenda and how each character deal with the problems. Still after you know the story from watching it so many times, the acting carries the story and still find it so interesting at 4th/5th times. After a little break with researching and watching all the behind scenes and the actor's history, still came back to investigate each actor's acting in the Untamed. Now may be the 6th times, the acting and the story are still enjoyable. Still cried at least 3 times each episode from episode 25 to 33. Still surprised myself with the scenes I cried over the first time while watching it again. Just too much sorrow in each character...all the deepest emotion you can get as a human being... and the great acting brought out the emotion so well with all the dynamics of facial expression and body motion that is worse investigate deeply from your heart to interact with it. This is epic!!!
You almost made me cry. You experience watching it 1st 2d 3d 4th 5th and 6th time is revealing. Great movie must be watched 2d time bc we already know all the ends. So we can slowly observe details as we go through it again. The 7th time maybe we could watch it without sound and without subtitles. Yes. I did this on my 28th time with Dead Man of Johnny Depp. I will do it with the Untamed. After all its OST we listen to on its own, don't we?

All of dramas I've watched must say The untamed is the best I now binges rewatch 5 times and counting can't get out of guzu land ,trying others dramas but i rather go back and rewatch the untamed so glad that I'm not alone lol

Honestly I came to love and appreciate this show more after a second rewatch. The plot isn’t much to rave about until the second arc of the story, that’s where all the mysteries ties in, but it’s truly the characters that made this drama come alive! Never thought I’d root for 2 guys, but their chemistry is undeniable and explosive and oh so delicious! Hope to see XZ an WYB collaborate again soon ! ❤️

There is a lot of Romantic stuff happen in the drama. You just need to pay attention. The way they look at each other, Wei Ying teasing, Lan Zhan love sick expression, Lan Zhan get jealous, Lan Zhan protect Wei Ying, Lan Zhan get a mark on his back and his chest after Wei Ying die. The most important of all no female love interest for any of them.

I am someone who's seen The Untamed, read the novel The Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation and watched two seasons of Mo Dao Zu Shi. I am also a fan of Xiao Zhan since Fights Break Sphere. Now, I will say this, the first 10 episodes are a bit slow. It was said that it's because the actors were not familiar with the original material and therefore didn't understand their characters well enough to portray. This is where the novel can come in handy. Now if you're watching Chinese dramas, it's safe to assume that you would be aware that BL related stuff is heavily censored. So the director had to cut those scenes between the leads but seriously someone would have to be blind to not see those longing glances and the smiles. For me, I started feeling it when they stared at each other in the cave. It was mere seconds but I saw the sparks. I thought " This is it". I liked it and I have rewatched it.
actually they filmed the first ten ep Lan and wei part last month of filming ..from ep15 til 30 those were the one to be filmed .... if you are homophobic you wont see it literaly i cant think of any other reason lol Especially when they know for a fact that the two are lovers in the novel but still cry and call them just bro those are deep down homophobic

I root for several other actors in cdrama and dramas so I am not faithful to XZ for my own good. I am eyes fetishist and hair fetishist. I am a facist. I spelled it correctly. But in all my life I was drawn to faces. Both real and in art. The Untamed is like Michel Angel and Botticelli together. And stays in that angelic and demonic decorum. Is it rewatchable? Well I'd have to say yes, since its 2021 and I'm still watching it.
The story is so unique and beautiful. and you will love all the casts even the villains.

Xiao Zhan & Wang Yibo read the entire novel and successfully delivered the quality chemistry. Just a beautiful romance between two men without any explicit scene. Also Not only these two but also others' stories are there too. And full of philosophy.
Hi Marcus! Thank you for the new update. I loved watching The Untamed while it was on air. I loved the 2 leads, but I have to admit that it was Xiao Zhan's portrayal of Wei Wu Xian that got me hooked. I read the manhua and watched the anime before I watched the live action drama. I was a bit skeptical when it first started since I had the manhua and anime as reference -- I was happy that they did a good job of translating it into the live action drama.

I watch every one of your videos generally, but when I see the name of The Untamed, I can't help but watch it immediately. I am glad you did this separate segment regarding this drama so that people who haven't watched it yet would consider to give it a try. This drama is seriously such a treat to watch, not watching it means missing out on a great series. The cast did such an amazing job though they are mainly rookies. The story remained quite true to the original source which is a great delight. Thank goodness they did not show any unnecessary love line between Wei Ying and Wen qing. I fell in love with the explosive chemistry of the male leads, Xiao Zhan and Wang Yibo. I am quite satisfied with how their relationship is portrayed in the drama. Though they could not show any explicit scene because of the censorship, but it was more than evident that their relationship went beyond only friendship or brotherhood. Overall this drama blowed my mind away so bad, that I still can't get over it. At last, thanks Marcus for this segment 😊😊.

at the first episodes I was actually not that amused, but then the story get really interesting and we got attached to the characters.
the story itself really amazing.
after that I can connect emotionally to each character and up until episode 50, you will love the drama and complain why it's so short.

This drama has captivated my heart so hard. I just love it. I’m not into BL stuff and was skeptical about watching the drama. After reading some reviews and watching some fmv I decided to give it a try. I start the drama but with the thought of not finishing it if it was uncomfortable for my taste. But honestly, I was hooked after the first episode. And I have watched the drama 4 times already. I know is not gonna be the last time either. Love how you can feel every single emotion from Wei Ying through Xiao Zhan’s acting. And you think Lan Zhan is a stone face but the little facial expressions captivate you. I love how Wang Yibo portrayed Lan Zhan. The cast of this drama was amazing. The writers, directors, producers, etc did an excellent job. The drama is almost the same as the novel. I love how you can feel and see their relationship and love without any kiss or explicit scenes. It was depicted better than other dramas with female and male leads romance. And even more amazingly is from China. They can make a season 2 and many people will love it. For me they can pair Xiao Zhan and Wang Yibo again and I’ll be extremely happy. Thanks for the vid!
I was debating if I wanted to watch it thinking it was a gay drama, not my cup of tea! But I couldn’t find anything better to watch so I gave it a chance and instantly fell in love with it, especially the 2 main male lead 🥰. I still go back and re-watch whenever I have nothing else to watch 👍🏼

I told others I watched all 50 episodes continously on my 2 days off. Everyone thought that I'm crazy, but then I have to rewatch the whole 50 episodes to understand all the flash back. Now, I know that I'm not the only one, so prove that both of them are really excellent actors . They definitely deserved all the compliments. Wish these two young men have a marvelous future at whatever they pursue. 👍👍👍
I have watched The Untamed numerous times and each time it still awes me. The cast are just awesome , its officially my favourite film
I have to agree with your insight as far as if the untamed is worth for binge watching. I personally have seen it three times and may see it again. To be honest when it came out I watched it but gave up half way because it was just airing and the episodes were uploaded weekly. But when I saw how many people commented on how good it was I went right back and started to watch it again. I recommend 100%. Thank you for your explanations of the dramas as always. Cheers

It’s 2023 already and I’ve just got to watch the untamed!! It was incredible and I’ve already rewatched it twice 🥹
I binged and rewatched The Untamed twice (so watched it three times and second and third time was with reactors who did reactions 1-50 full reaction). Best tv drama until now, there won’t be a better one any time soon for me. Don’t know why it was so good, but I watched so many BT’s and fan videos about the two main leads and I couldn’t watch another tv show for 2 months. Now I’m watching anime I can’t even get into Chinese drama’s because they don’t match my expectations anymore... once I tasted heaven now I only want heaven nothing less 😢😭😭 I need 4 months and maybe I can get into Chinese costume drama’s again. I’m waiting for Sword Dynasty and Legend of Fei
Each character in the untamed are really ínpiring with the value of humanity, the way they treat each other, the aim of their lìves which we can apply in our real life. An amazing series!
The Untamed brought me back to Asian dramas after decades. Watched it weeks ago and have been continuing with other dramas however The Untamed is the ONLY one that I haven’t fast-forwarded a single second/part. The bar has been set high up in the Cloud Recesses.
This drama is seriously THE BEST! I can't wait for "Heaven's Official Blessing" drama to come out! (Heaven's Offical Blessing is another BL novel created by the same author that did Mo Dao Zu Shi [The Untamed]!!!)

Just finished my 6th rewatch of The Untamed this week. Watched both on big tv screen on Netflix and on laptop. The theme song WangXian/Refrain its melody so hauntingly zen-like, nerve calming never enuf of listening. A beautiful composition by Lin Hai. Play the musical track followed by songs of various singers almost every a.m. of the day to revive/evoke the nostalgia of several poignant scenes espc betwn WY and LZ, WY and his snr. Jiejie (the song A-Xian). Will def rewatch when missing them grips me!
Still rewatching. :) as soon as I think I will watch something else I return to scrolling on RUclips for more the untamed related content now watching animation mo dao zu shi:) everything was captivating about the drama I stumbled on netflix by accident and I guess it part of my life :)

Wen Ning didn´t have just have a near death experience, he pretty much died. He is the first reanimated corpse Wei Wuxien ever did using resentful energy. You know, he is the ghost general and all:)
Before he met wei wu xian, he did have a near death experience.. (in different scenarios in the novel and the drama) after that he stutters a lot and other things as well.. Thus his sister becoming very protective of him and does not approve of him following wei wu xian loyally in the beginning.
I haven’t watched it yet! I want to binge it all together during a January vacation! Can’t wait for that!

You may want to watch it till the end. Then rewatch it from the beginning. You will find how much better you understand the plot and characters after a long flashback.

Great acting by the actors/actresses especially by Xiao Zhan (my favorite as Wei Wuxian) , Meng Ziyi (Wen Qing), Xuan Lu (Jiang Yanli), Zheng Fan Xing (Lan Sizhui), Wang Zhoucheng (Jiang Cheng), Zhu Zanjin (Jin Guangyao/Meng Yao), Yu Bin (Wen Ning, 2nd best character for me in the drama ), Cai Yuchen (Jin Zixuan), and the young actor for young A'Yuan for their memorable portrayal of their characters. Awesome the directors, producers, and crew for putting it all together and making the story come alive. Looking forward to seeing more great acting by the actors especially the lead, Xiao Zhan!
I have watched #theuntamed many times, I also watched reaction videos from 2 different vloggers from epi 1-50 and I enjoy reading comments , fans who read the novel are so wonderful giving explanation so I gain more insights about the plot. I also watched the Modaozushi anime / donghua which is action pack. I watched the comics/ manhua/ manga which is posted on youtube by Jlo , I watched Bts clips and I love the Wuji/ Unrestrained OST and i also like the calming music played in the Guqin/ Zither by Lan Zhan to heal Weiying , which is the same music taught by Lan Xichen to Meng Yao for Red Blade master but not the altered music which caused his sudden death. In the heart of #theuntamed fans, it is the best drama of all times :-) also big thank you to the drama I came to know a handsome and a multitalented actors Xiao Zhan and Wang Yibo :-) cheers

I actually started watching The Untamed so I really appreciate this video.
I feel that as someone who read the novel, it was good they chose to keep the drama rather reserved. I loved that it says more from so little. One of the reason we love Western period dramas because of the nuance and euphemisms.
It is left to our imagination and emotions seem ten times more natural and sincere.
They did amazing though at portraying the various aspects of their relationship 😊
Yes yes yes...I so hooked watch the untamed more then 5 time the story so good the lead have so much chemistry and the plot for Wei wuxian as he an evil protray very well.....also the song of both sing together very get u too I very loving this drama what More is the give us what it wroted to watch and yes they won award as well

I got interested in The Untamed when I saw many people praising it one Twitter so I looked up the audience's reviews online. I saw one that said the first episode was boring and that after the first 10 episodes, the storyline picks up and becomes really interesting, seeing all the praise and this one review sold it for me. I watched every single episode and enjoyed it. Might do another binge watch of it~ hehe
