China: we have censorship The Untamed: forehead ribbon tying, bowing to ancestors, chicken dowry, song composing for someone else, "you're my soulmate" lines, child adoptions etc. etc. etc. China: ........... bruh
I love your channel and you have worked hard a lot ...I love the bromance between Lan Zhan and weing so much...I am yizhan crazy fan from India 😘😘😘😍😍😍😍🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰 hope to see them together again in another drama 👍👍👍👍👍
@Brim can we talk about how causally Xichen just said "yeah sure, bring him back" while he still thought that wei ying was high on that demonic shit??? #BestBroXichen
Here's another strong indication of romantic feelings which I've noticed very few people point out: Near the end of Episode 24, when Wei Ying and Senior Sister were chatting with each other inside the Jiang family ancestral shrine, Wei Ying at one point asked Senior Sister: "Why does a person like someone?...I mean *that* kind of like", and as he said that, his hand seemed to indicate his heart. (The word Wei Ying used was 喜欢, which translates to "like" in English, and some non-Chinese viewers might think Wei Ying is referring to the kind of "like" that he feels for a friend. But in Chinese, 喜欢 is often used to indicate romantic feelings, and the way Wei Ying was using that word, he was definitely referring to romantic feelings.) Senior Sister understood immediately, but when she asked him whether he had fallen in love, Wei Ying denies it. However, the very fact that he asked her that question is clear indication that he has indeed fallen in love with someone. I interpret that scene as Wei Ying basically declaring that he's fallen in love. And even though he doesn't say who he's in love with, there really isn't anyone else in the drama that he could have possibly fallen in love with other than Lan Zhan.
In the book, he actually meant to talk about Jin Zixuan, asking Jiang Yanli why she liked him, someone like him so much. But it could be interpreted as a hint toward his emotions towards Lan Wangji too.
And also in episode 24 Wei Ying is talking to his brother about their sister Yanli liking Jin Zixuan. Wei Ying has always called Jin Zixuan "that peacock", probably simply because he dresses well, is poised, and good looking. Wei Ying says “I just can’t understand why Yanli chose to like this pea…..” and he stops right there and you can justabout hear him calling himself a hypocrite thinking about the stately, impeccable Lan Wanji. LOL it is one of the places in the show where the actor's did such a good job with their facial expressions that you can read their chracter's thoughts loud and clear. Another huge one being the cave episode 13 where Wei Ying says "Why are you so mad?" to Lan Zhan before brightly saying "you like MianMian!" and Lan Zhan's face says "How can you be such an idiot! It's you!" and he looks annoyed and intense and stares hard and close into Wei Ying's eyes. Wei Ying, who was hurt that Lan Zhan was angry, totally misses it.
@@drLorimer Yess you are totally right about that scene in ep 24! I saw that (only by second watch of the drama haha) really clear - his face when he realise that he also has feelings for someone who never would thought of! That was soo cute and funny :D tho I would say that WY didn't like JZ and called him peacock beacause he has though highly of himself - was "puffed up like a peacock". LZ in the begining was also someone not in WY type - distant, strict, stiff. WY liked teasing him. In this scene he realised that you just fall in love and there isn't "why? why this person not another?" question :)
I loved this video so much omg. And I also feel that the scene where LZ asks his brother LXC, if he can bring someone back to Gusu, bring him back and hide him. That scene was a parallel of what happened between LZs mother and father. It was really romantic idk even know how it passed censorship.
@@dramaobsession6619 omg yeah I realized that, and I feel like there were so many scenes and lines that were just were just so romantic. Even just the way that the two looked at each other, thank god for the amazing production team.
So many things that wouldn’t have passed censorship if they had actually paid attention 😂 , but I’m glad they let so many things pass, like the part where LWJ asks WWX what he was to him, in some translations WWX says soulmates and LWJ says he still is, or how when JC captures WWX he starts panicking because of Fairy and calls “Shijie”, JC says two very vague and indignant phrases about who WWX called, but then starts complaining about LWJ, in the book we know the one he calls is LWJ.
It’s totally romantic. He didn’t say I want to bring a friend, he said I want to bring a man. Also, every look LZ gave WW, if he wasn’t angry, there was want and need in his eyes.
Why I can't see anyone mentioning the scene after Lanzhan drunk? He asked WWX if he did something and WWX replied that Lanzhan said "he like..." You can see that Lanzhan is obviously panicking at that time until WWX continued saying that he like rabbits. Even WWX confused with Lanzhan's reaction.
I think Wei Ying knows full well by then. He is teasing Lan Zhan because Lan Zhan is still pretty uptight about stuff. I have always assumed that in this scene Wei Ying could tell that Lan Zhan was panicking that he had crossed boundries that he had set on himself. So Wei Ying was having a little fun with it. At that point in their lives and relationship Wei Ying is much more relaxed than he was in his first life, he no longer feels the need to push at Lan Zhan for attention. He is secure in their friendship, and not inclined to be pushy or have expectations for more. I think everything is bonus for Wei Ying 2.0. Sometimes the bonuses that come are wonderful though. The scene on the steps of Carp Tower in episode 42when they are surrounded after the big reveal, Wein Ying had no expectations that Lan Zhan was going to commit like that. The joy on both of their faces at that moment is one of the best scenes in the show. I also love the reactions of Jiang Chen (worried, jealous, annoyed), Meng Yao (yep I understand this), and Lan Xichen (they are unbearably romantic, I might cry).
Rabbits are a symbol of homosexuality in China so when he asked if Lan Zhan likes rabbits, he was actually asking if he liked men... Lan Zhan replied that he loved them thus explaining why Wei Ying was so happy after hearing his answer
@@haneulsjams I heard about that symbolism. but do you really think they wanted to imply that LZ is into men?? wasn't this just a teasing of WWX (like: hehe, you're childish, you like those little fluffy animals!)? LZ became calm when WWX mentioned it (after panicking cause he thought he confessed his feelings to WWX in that night). On the other hand I wondered why they rub it in all the time (that LZ likes bunnys). I mean Ok, we get it, so what, is that something so special? is it so childish ? But with this ambiguity I can see that the production crew liked to tease the audience too ;)
I also strongly believe that it was Lan Zhan who met with Wei Ying on the cliff top. Simply because of his deep smile and the 'puppy like' blinking of his eyes. It was only Lan Zhan that received this type of warm, loving, endearing smile. There was no (blinking of the eyes) for Senior Sister and he loved her unconditionally.
it is literally lan zhan the end!! we hear a "wei ying" and that's when wei wuxian turns around and smiles . nobody else in the series calls Wei Wuxian, wei ying, other than lan zhan!!
@@lova2617 This is how BRILLIANT the series is. The small details such as this did not happen by accident. I am deeply smitten by the series, even now, years later.
When Lan Zhan discovers what Wei Wuxian did for his brother, Lan Zhan looks absolutely heart broken and takes care of Wei Wuxian so dearly, like WXX is his precious boyfriend 🤧❤
I think it was further confirming for Lan Zhan the truth that he knew 16 years ago before they reunited, he was head over heels in love with Wei Wuxian.
People forget the whole link between Lan Zhan's parents and he and Wei Ying too. Their father being akin to Lan Zhan and their mother being akin to Wei Ying. That is why when Lan Zhan was saying. "I want to take a man back to Cloud Recesses... take him back and hide him there." Lan Xichen knows exactly what that really means. This isnt a friendship or even a crush, it's a core deep love that cannot be erased. Lan Zhan is putting all of his fear and everything he ever knew aside and all he wants is Wei Ying to be safe. He finally understands why his father did what he did. Because despite his mother not feeling exactly the same, he would have done anything to protect her. The one major difference between their stories was that Wei Ying reciprocated his feelings once before and then once again when he was sure how Lan Zhan felt after his resurrection. Maybe he knew all along, the feeling was there, but he just never knew was it was until a name was put to it. This comparison is so important going forward too bc it reveals the true depth of Lan Zhan's despair after his death. He feels like he betrayed Wei Ying and let him down in a way his father never would have done with his mother. He believes he failed him. He says so in the scene where he is drunk. He wanted to break the cycle. He wanted to prove his uncle wrong. That he could protect Wei Ying without caging him and still remain faithful to the principles of his clan. But when Wei Ying died. He realised how little he cared for those principles anymore. Because in his eyes, they cost him the love of his life. And so it brings us to another line: "What is black and what is white." It's an interesting comparison too bc of the colours they wear. You could argue he is saying: "What is Lan Wangji and what is Wei Wuxian. In his eyes they are one. They are the grey area where none of the rules made sense. He could not fit their love or their actions against the principles and label it right or wrong. He learned through Wei Wuxian that the black and white perspective was a farce. It was just shades of grey. Good and evil are a matter of perspective. To Lan Zhan he might have considered it wrong that he left Wei Ying alone on the battle field. Yet Wei Wuxian killing to a certain sense was justified. It is important that both of these themes are seen together as the same can be said about Lan Zhans mother. Whom his Uncle sees so plainly as villain yet Lan Zhan knew only a doting mother. Its why he can see Wei Ying the way his father saw his Mom. Why he can see past all the demonisation and know the truth.
I finished The Untamed weeks ago and I still can’t get over this drama. I haven’t touched the other materials but I think it was clear to me once they were in the cave and Wei Ying was teasing Lan Zhan that he liked MianMian. Like the look on Lan Zhan’s face is like “oh come on...”. Also after humming WangXian... when Wei Ying asks for the name of the song, I felt like WYB did such a good job there. Like the moment before saying the name, the look of taking down the wall/deciding to confess the name. That part is fast but it is also one of my favourite moments.
I think the cave scene is sooo good as well! I think in terms of reviews in China the drama was getting bad reviews until the cave scene episode and then the cave scene aired and things starred turning around. I LOVE WYB in that scene (and many other scenes).
I remember there's a BTS about how the director was directing the show, and they mentioned "love/romantic relationship in the conversation. So I guess they were trying to express the relationship, but at the same time avoid sensitive words and certain scene......
Yea, I think they did a great job striking the right balance! I think the directors knew that fans of the novel weren't going to be happy if they didn't get to see some hints of the romantic relationship on screen.
I just can't with how the producers actually included the Wen burn mark on Lan Zhan's chest along with the whip marks on his back but never bothered to elaborate it (the burn mark) within the show. I mean, novel readers already know that Lan Wangji got that burn mark after Wei Ying' s death because he's grieving and only found a little peace after having the same burn mark on the chest with Wei Ying hdhdhd. Istg they showed too many signs.
You forgot this point when wei wuxian asks her sister that "why a person like another person and I am talking about that kind of like". This was the most convencing indirect confession in the untamed which also shows us that wei ying also has fallen in love with lan zhan already in his first life its just he didn't realised it then. The 2nd indirect confession comes from lan zhan when he said "I want to bring back a person in cloudrecesses, bring him back and hide him away" now when you compare it with his father's story anybody could tell that he loves wei ying more than a brotherhood or deep friendship and definetly not out of guilt and pity, since he said this before wei wuxian's death . He loves him romantically the way his father loved his mother actually even more than that😍😍😍❤❤❤
I don't remember what video, but it was one that they were being interviewed about it and asked what the last scene was and yibo said it is the part where they play a duet at the falls at the end. Xiao was trying to tell yibo he's wrong and it's the mountain top scene. Yibo says no and Xiao is like yes and giving him the eyes like stop telling the secrets as to not jeopardize the series from censorship. Yibo stops and doesn't agree with Xiao. If you watch the special version of the series where it focuses on just them, the ending has them in the waterfalls standing together ❤ From what I understand when they were doing the editing, they switched the last few scenes to avoid getting in trouble, but after everything aired, they corrected the ending with the special edition 🥰 that's why yibo was confused that Xiao was correcting him during the interview.
Now that makes more sense, I found it kinda weird, I don't why, but found it weird that they were playing music together smiling so widely, like they arent about to just part away, before they parted, went up the mountain and than parted. It make more sense now
Omg if the waterfalls scene become the real ending . It will be perfect , but the scene in the top of the mountain is also perfect .... To broke my heart 😂 they really make the last scenes so emotional
I think you said everything but missed out on the biggest hint. In ep 42, when Wei Ying's identity is discovered in Carp Tower, and everyone immediately stands against Wei. Wei and Lan Zhan were running hand-in-hand but seeing everyone surrounding them Wei pushes Lan Zhan away! He even tried to play it as if he manipulated Lan Zhan too. However, Lan Zhan dismissed it and in front of everyone sided with Wei. Then, he said that iconic line to Wei 'The feeling of sticking to a single log bridge till it is dark is indeed not bad' as in he always trusted Wei and will stay by his side till the end!😭😭😭 I don't think there is any bigger confession of love than this!!💝💝💝
2 things i noticed was when they are heading to find another piece of the yin iron and Mr I Dont Know mentions Lans Beauty and Wei recognized it! Love that scene the other moments is every time Lan grabs Weis arm!
Yes they are together at the end, because when Wei Ying is playing the flute, someone call his name, and then Wei Ying turn around to see that person and smile brightly
I feel like a lot of people are stuck with the mask thing and typically I would agree that mask in shows are dumb. However, remember that he’s suppose to be in Mo Xanyu’s body, which means that they would have had to change actors for the live action. Using a full face mask would not allow us to see expressions either, so I think this did work for this drama. This is not like a Superman situation.
I did think that if the character of Wei Wuxian hadn't taken black clothing and a red hair ribbon after he resurrected when he fled from the Mo manor, that would have helped to make it clearer that he was in Mo's body. A different hairstyle would have made a big difference. We do see in The Untamed and in the spin-off movie Fatal Journey that others besides Wei Wuxian use a flute as spiritual tools. So the flute isn't quite as big a deal in giving away his identity since it is the tune that tips off Lan Zhan that this is Wei Ying in someone else's body. In the TV drama, I don't remember Lan Zhan or Wei Ying commenting on the fact that Wei Ying no longer has the chest scar from the hot iron branding tool since he is now in someone else's body?
@@CindersVale i think in the novel wei ying's soul replaced mo xuanyu's soul, resulting him in different body while in the drama, wei ying was shown as a replacement for mo xuanyu (both body and soul). And maybe that's the reason why they didn't confirm in the drama if wei ying still possess that chest mark from the hot iron branding tool.
Agree totally. I do not know which is the better way to do this, to change a new actor or….. but definitely would like to see more of the original actor. And after learning about this character was actually in another person’s body, when watch again I have a totally change of feeling towards this character.
Thank you again for another video. On top of all the points you have brought up, have you noticed how much Lan Zhan and Wei Ying touch? For someone who professes to not like physical contact, Lan Zhan is very accepting of Wei Ying grabbing hold of him and pulling him off to adventure. I don't recall seeing anyone else purposefully reach out to touch Lan Zhan other than when he is being punished. But then, that's just the person he is. Untouchable, unless its Wei Ying. Also, when they retrieve their swords from Qishan, Lan Zhan takes Suibian, that is another of my favourite wangxian moments.
Yea, totally agree on your point about touching. There are so many little signs that I didn't mention - like how Lanzhan looks jealous every time Weiying talks to a girl, the way, early on in the series, he wistfully looked at Xiaoxingchen and Songlan walking away together, etc.
And when he says "Fortunately" after they burry Little Blind. They hint that Lan Zhan is glad he has Wei Ying back and not have a sad ending like XXC and SL. He stops himself tho cuz it might seem rude
@@dramaobsession6619 Helooo .. I have a question about the scene in the night hunt when they change the kiss scene by the conversation between Lan Zhan and Wei Ying .. a lot is saying about the words wwx said to lz ... Here my question ... Is that a love confession? Some people say that the meaning of the wwx words are more deep then soulmates ... Can you explain this to us pleaseeeeee! 😊☺️
@Shirley Cunha I think the drama left it purposefully left ambiguous. The Chinese word that was used, Zhiji 知己 is not nearly as romantic as the word "soulmate". Its meaning is somewhere in between soulmate and confidante, to be honest. In Chinese culture you can absolutely call someone your zhiji without it being romantic... So I wouldn't say that that conversation amounted to a love confession. Just my opinion.
I think that they both also represent Yin and Yang ☯️ The two opposite forces, the feminine and the masculine, the darkness and the light, earth and heaven. The two major forces responsible of life. Wei Ying is the feminine, the darkness and the earth, while Lan Zhan is the masculine, the light (as his title Han Guang Jun also suggests) and the heaven. Oh, and also Wei Ying's name written as 魏婴 contains the character for female 女 in both characters of his name.
I ABSOLUTELY picked up on this, very early on out. No 2 straight exchange those type of longing looks. It's like everytime the both of them are in a room together everyone else disappears and it only them two. I lived every minute of it! Great video
Their stare saying it all without word, love more than word. As we experienced fall in love, well regarded the series a lot of romance between wangxian from bickering, flittering ,stare, give in,end of episode when weiying wanted to whistle taming the baxia they look at lan zhan (kind of asking permission or are u ok if I’m doing this)we can look their smile nodding lan zhan head n weiying smile (thanks you). Anyway Chinese culture about marriage u said it is definitely yes I’m use to listen my older Chinese (I’m asian mix to bad can’t speak Chinese) Untamed from airing till now make me stuck can’t move on the feeling totally freaking pain i miss them badly. They are deserved world class and masterpiece indeed. Thanks alot for the video I’m enjoying N try to move on still they yt keep appearing recommended about them. I wish have friends or lover just the way like #wangXian unconditionally love but in this unfriendly world is very RARE that kind of love
also the boy A'Yuan, Wei Ying adopted the boy from the Wen clan- yes he adopted him but later Wen Ning with his sister and the rest of the clan went to “apologize” _(idk how to explain it better xD)_ but they killed them all BUT the little boy wasn't there~ how we saw later the boy survived thanks to Lan Zhan cause he went there and thought he will find some clues abt. wwx but he found A'Yuan then he took care of him and basicaly adopted him as well thought wwx is dead _(even he tried to find him for a 13yrs)_ so A'Yuan has a two fathers and they are Wei Ying and Lan Zhan it means they have a son together it is like that also in the novel ^^ 💕 then if we think about it after Wei Ying "died" Lan Zhan got drunk himself for the first time and brainded his body if I'm not wrong it was the same as Wei Yings but I'm not sure now it is a long time since I wanched it 😭 then he was punished for hurting the clan members and protecting Yiling Patriarch _(but at the time he alredy loved wwx TT)_ he had spend 3 yrs in the ice cave and he received heavy punishment with the whip as well~ first time he got punished along with wwx at the Cloud Recesses right?that time he hide his body from wwx but when wwx found out his scars after Lan Zhan brought him back he didn't hide it he let him see that it means he wasn't the same as before >< nothing extra but I felt like I can write it here 💕💕
Something I haven't seen people talk about in these videos in the burn mark! In the tortoise cave scene, Wei Ying clearly describes what the iron mark means (it shows he cared for and protected a girl). Now, fast forward to the resurrection of Wei Ying, There's the scene where Lan Zhan is healing in the cold pool. Wei Ying walks up to him and sees that he has many whip lashes on his back. Lan Zhan turns around and reveals the same iron mark on his chest, in the same place as Wei Ying's. (Which, note, is in a similar spot to where the heart is) The point was always made very clear that Lan Zhan was always extremely protective over Wei Ying, Whenever someone even raised their voice at him It would get Lan Zhan on edge. I think that this whole iron mark deal is such a clear sign that Lan Zhan truly would devote his life to Wei Ying and definitely not in a comrade way!! Let's just say that, combined with everything mentioned in this video, I think the pair were anything but platonic. and we couldn't be happier!!!
There’s a lovely moment that I don’t see mentioned yet, when they are traveling with the arm and one night they need to play a duet to subdue it. Lan Zhan looks over at Wei Ying as they are playing, working together like true partners, and smiles. It’s this beautiful little moment of domestic bliss… while suppressing the resentful energy of a demonic arm, but you know, to each their own!
Oh my gosh!!!! I really enjoyed your video 😍😍 to tell the truth, Ive been watching the untamed 5x because of this so called slow gratification of love scenes unlike other shows which the couples would bang it up. I know its frustrating to watch them just call and look at each other but hey its truelly effective because you would not have enough and go back them. I cant move on from this drama like what the hell, Im used seeing the lead couples eating each others faces but here, NONE of it. Some people are saying that this is not a BL because they did not proclaim their love verbally, what they dont know is the love that is shown in action is far greater than saying it out loud. Thats why Im so addicted to this series, how to move on. Please help me 😭😭😭😭
I finished The Untamed the first days of december. Then I watched the special edition. At the beginning of January I started reading the book. I finished it last week. Then I rewatched the 50 episodes again and I understood some things that I had missed. I can't move on. I found this show late but from the comments I see that many people haven't move on from them either. I'm now watching reviews and BTS from the show. I love it. I love them. Thanks for this analysis
Thanks for clear explainations ❤ lots of love from India. I'm obsessed with "The untamed" drama. It's almost 4 n 5 months now but still re watching it again and again ...and all the videos on youtube when it's about LZ and Wei ying..I love watching it. God I really love yi_zhan and wants to see them together in another drama.❤💚🐰🦁
You made the ending so much better for me.. thank youuuu bless you!!! ALSO LAN ZHAN KNEW HE LOVED HIM AT EPISODE 14 WTF I LOVE IT. I can now imagine him thinking of Wei Ying while composing a love song about him ohmyGOD thank you for that
I really enjoy your videos and your explanations of The Untamed. After watching the series, I had so many questions which you clarified. Thank you!!! Also, right from the start, I knew there were strong feelings between the two. Their eyes said everything. The chemistry between the two main actors made it easy to guess.
Oh god! I'm crying again! I knew the ending but I needed someone else to say that so I can share my happiness with her! so you did that, now I'm sharing my happiness! :))
Hearing you say all this things makes me want to watch the serie again and again, now that I have the knowledge that lan zhan has a feelings for wei ying. The whole time, that means lan zhan had deceived me with his harsh glare, now I'm thinking that he's glaring because he is jealous or annoyed that wei ying is so oblivious of his feelings for him.
Thanks for this video!! Once again, super informative and straight on. I never doubted wei ying and lan zhans love because I knew from all their little interactions and dialogues that they were most definitely more than friends. They were soulmates who would risk their lives for each other.
I think the reason the Untamed really gets to so many fans is because the romance is not in your face obvious. Like - they're not making out. It's all in the smoldering looks and things that are unsaid. SO GOOD.
Thank you very much for the awesome review!! And a biiiiiig thanks for clearing my dis-satifaction regarding the conclusion. I knew that Lanzhan called Weying and they both are together, but I still was not satisfied. Now my heart is at peace.
OMG I just started watching this drama on Netflix with English subtitles. had to do some reading up on the drama so could get an understanding of the characters, and concepts concerning each clan name and their mission or goal. Your explanation of the drama so far has helped me follow the plotline. I could definitely see the nuances and suggestions of love and relationship in this drama. It is amazing. I'm at episode 23 at this moment. I have to use my remote to pause in some places so that I can catch up with the subtitles so that I have an understanding of the plot line. Thank you so much. I'm definitely a fan of this show.
There's a scene that I don't see people talking about, it's when Wei Ying is with Jin Ling in the Carp Tower and his nephew ask something about Mo Xuan Yu's crush on Guangyao's wife, then he deny saying that he's already in love with other person, besides Lan Zhan, literally, no one shows a romantic feeling for Wei Ying, there's no other explanation for that.
@@dramaobsession6619 It's episode 40, it's after some boys of the Jin sect went to bother Jin Ling, I don't remember if Lan Zhan shows up but I don't think so. By the way, loved your video! :)
The wrapping the ribbon around the wrist also is very similar to many European (originated in Germanic & Celtic peoples, but I think it’s become a general pagan thing now) traditions of handfasting, which is also a wedding tradition. A ribbon would be wrapped around the couple’s hands, binding them together, as part of the ceremony. I’m not sure if that was intentional on the part of the show creators, but I always loved that.
i loved this vid so much omg I cant stop screaming at the thought of wangxian finally getting together in CQL though we never got to see it due to censorship. Thank you for this
The director did say Wangxian, but he told it to Xiao Zhan so when Yibo asked XZ, XZ answered and Yibo was confused for a good second. He then followed by “is the song named Wangxian?” Which XZ answered by saying “yes” Is kind of funny how the director is like slowly joining them together by telling them subtle hints or calling them “couple” “boyfriends” “wife and husband”
they are most definitely together, at the very last scene, wei ying smiles. The smiles reserves only for Lan Zhan and you can see Lan Zhan's reflections in Wei Ying's eyes
For me there are so many other scenes that showed that LZ & WY were more than just friends; scene where LZ cried when WY went to save the WENs against the orthodox, and where he cried again when he finally learned how WY lost his core to his brother. There were many scenes where LZ showed jealousy by the look on his face when WY played with others, all the scenes where he not just gave WY alcohol as a threat but also drank with him. LZ Chosing to stand by WY against the world including his uncle was far too much proof of how much deeply he loved WY. And WY showed his own love for LZ in every little way and most touching was how he always called out to Lan Zhan especially whenever he was in danger... The Untamed is seriously a Love story we will never forget in a life time ❤️
I will like to add three scenes 1) after lan zhan was sober and wei Ying said he spilled some of his secrets like lan Zhan likes....( Lan Zhan panicked af obviously thinking he confessed his love) 2) there was a boat scene after wei Ying and lanzhan saved the boys from burial mounds.....the leaders of few sects were gossiping in a boat...there they started gossiping about wei Ying and everybody started laughing suggestively...I'm 99% sure they were talking about lan zhans relationship with wei Ying 3) at the boat scene Jiang chen heard the conversation..he seems angry...then after the bowing towards parents scene when Jiang chen catches wei Ying and lan Zhan he mocks their relationship.....that was also a big hint I think
at the end you can see Lan Zhan's reflection in Wei Ying's eyes. if it was intentional by the director or not, still a great shot and a giveaway for them being together.
This entire time after asking people if the ending is good they always keep replying it was sad but when I finally watched it ,I understood that they completely misunderstood the ending 😂
I just found this drama on Netflix (in the US, it's June 2024) and I am completely obsessed with it. I don't care that it's six years old. The acting is superb and I am a sucker for romance of any genre. Really, what is better than a hard-won love story? I had to then purchase the books just to find out the author's original story. I'm no teenager. I've read or watched every romance story I can get my hands on in my 75 years beginning with Thomas Costain's The Black Rose as a preteen up to this drama. A lot of them have roots in China. I completely agree with you that the Chinese are masters of unrequited love. Wish I had seen your critiques sooner. I also wish I had been able to afford travel in my youth when relations between China and the US were better. Now I have the money and cannot go. Will men ever realize we are all the same and quit threatening war as a solution to everyone on planet Earth?
Thank you so much for explaining the beauty of Asian Slow-burn (build-up) romance ... It's been years when I gave up Hollywood sex romance (as if there is no other expression of love than jump-to-bed-at-first-sight romance) ... Haisst! and love in The Untamed has indeed given us new expressions of love that just gives me all the thrills ("kilig" in Pilipino) and swooning that I get when enjoying a good Romantic movie ... Thanks so much!
I love the way you explain...i watch untamed that im thinking beyond their acts coz i don't have any clue about this drama...i finished the whole series but I can't move on until I watched their bts and interviews and I also search a little bout china entertainment...thats why I understand all and rewatch again😅😅😅...until now I'm rooting them😅😅😅
Wow, thanks so much for this insight info, life-saving really, especially thank you for that ending explanation, it was bit confusing for me too, but I hoped this is the meaning ❤
thank you for the explanations. wow. so many hidden things i did not realize while watching the show. - you're right. subtle and slow burn is so much more exciting. it's like holding the bait in front of the prey so it would bite at it but it never actually gets it. 🤣😅 - thank you again!
Thanks for your explanation After watching the drama I have doubt whether they are sincere friends or lovers !!! Your Video give all the hints Noticed some other points as well 1. Lan Zhan don't like anybody touches him . Nobody will go near to him as well. And noone is eligible to speak with him as well. But always he will speak & explains things with Wei Ying. Always holding Wei before falling down . On the bridge he is carrying him on back and holding him tightly on his shoulder in the inn and Wei smiled 2. Lan Zhan got drunk and on the next day he asked what he has done . When Wei Ying told ‘you told that you like … ‘ then his panic face explains very well 3. The burned mark on Lan Zhan’s chest . And he was not hiding his body this time. last time he hided his body from Wei Ying. Wei Ying told before the saved girl will remember him for his life time with that mark. Now it’s a lifetime remembrance for him as well 4. If anyone is there also without noticing them all the time glances each other 5. Lot other hints like chicken, rabbits , asking his sis about love , cave scene , in lotus lake Wei Ying laying on Lan Zhan’s lap, their 3 times bow down , hair band touching & tying together , Affectionate look etc etc. it is really clear that they are in love. Not a simple friendship 🥰🥰🥰 Enjoyed the drama!! But struggling to come out from that now 😒
I am a bit bit sad now, that China have LGBTQ banned, but this drama was the best drama I have watched from China, they expressed the emotion and everything without needing to exactly say things directly
@@CrisSelene haha it's a term that Chinese netizens came up with to get around censorship I think. It refers to these "bromances" shown in BL adaptations...
i love to watch the untamed. since then i really follow yizhan they are both good actors, talented, and both handsome.. but sad sometimes i don't understand chinese words, thanks for the explanation.
U r really nice person with nice eng & chinese accent...thanx most 4 the ending xplanation...i ended the series on my bday & it was intensional 2 commemorate it as my fav series but i shed drums of tears watching the ending...it was eating me literally...i was cursing the director & screenwriter...i only wanted 2 know if they would reunite or not...i googled about it a lot...diff ppl had diff opinions regarding the ending...ig i have 2 check 4 the reflection of Lan Zhan in Wei Yings eyes on my 4k tv...cuz last time i watched on my ipad...i didnt know about that reflection thing that time...i have 2 check 4 it tho
Personally I've never seen the reflection clearly, but I'm convinced they got together. You should take comfort in the fact that they definitely got together at the end of the book, and the drama tried very hard to be a faithful adaptation.
I have been totally disappointed with censorship about boy’s love in the series so I looked for the novel. And after reading it, I have never been this contended my whole life! Hahaha. The novel is the key!😆😊
I didn’t know anything about Mo Dao Zu Shi when I first watched the series but to me the interaction between them I could see there was something beyond friendship happening as they seemed particularly gentle and caring which you just don’t see between two males in dramas. Being told who could and who couldn’t touch the headband was obviously significant, Why mention this if it wasn’t going to be important. As for the final episode, you don’t have to see a face to realise who called Wei’s name, who else could make him smile like that. Did he play that particular song so Wangji would come to him.
Hey sis... Vedio is amazing👍😍 loved it Wangxian ❤❤❤ Still I miss those parts of being touchy Like how lan held wei hand Lan picked wei bcoz of curse on his leg And pulled him closer when they were meeting huaisang and after passing out at lotus pier... And the times they confessed- Lan to his brother about locking weiying up😜 Weiying to his sister how can someone fall in love (becoz of how he feels to lan) 😜😜 And at the time at cloud recessess and at the hunting tournament.. The exchange how they being each other's soulmates...... And the one time lan was caught by his brother 😁😁😂😂 Overall they both are always therefore each other 🤗🥺😍 but still they part ways and the end made me frustrated😤😫 but still they emphasis at last after weying was called out by lanzhan Like how they're journey together will continue or so I think 😜🤑🤑🤑🤑🤓
There's at least one more. During the night hunt(after Wen has been killed & Jin clan is the head of cultivation world), Wei Ying meet Lan Zhan. Wei Ying told Lan Zhan he used to consider Lan Zhan his confidant. Then of course, the 16 years where Lan Zhan never stopped looking for Wei Ying, go around all over(as stated by Jiang Cheng)
- We also can see the white silhouette of Lan Zhan mirrored in the eyes of Wei Ying (in the very last scene) -- so it is clear, that Lan Zhan is actually there. - I also heard that the "riding the donkey when the significant other goes next to it" is supposed to be a chinese after-marriage tradition where the woman rides the donkey and the husband holds the reins. (The director even wanted Xiao Zhan to ride the donkey with both legs on one side (girlish-style), which nearly didn't work because Xiao Zhan struggled to keep the equilibrium on the donkey's back, so they were forced to use a "fake leg" to still be able to film it that way ^^) -> So, yes, I am certain that the show is about a romance and NOT just friendship.
One more thing (at least, I can think of several more): WWX used Chenqing to say "I love you" to LWJ. The first time was right after he told him he considered him as his soulmate, he is then staring down at Chenqing, and then again right before they were separated when he left with the wens on his horse, he is holding out Chenqing and showing it to LWJ. I read in several places that the meaning of Chenqing is "To express emotions/love". Please correct me if I'm wrong :)
After the scene in the Cloud Recesses cave where Lan Zhan explains about the headband… I squealed every time Wei Wuxian touched it! Also, the matching chest branding!!!! 🥴🥴🥴
Some moments that I really liked between LWJ and WWX were when Song Lan and Xiao Xingchen walk away together after handing Cue Yang to Nie sect, the way LWJ looks at them. It's almost longing like he wished he could do the same with WWX. Another one is when they bury A Qing after the Yin City chaos, the way LWJ looks at WWX and says "Fortunately". I feel he was glad that wei ying was alive and well.
Yea, I love the subtle moments between them. I also really like that scene towards the end where they both see the rabbit lantern on the street and then look at each other.
Im so happy to have found your channel. I am also obsessed with Asian Drama in particular The Untamed. What I wanted to ask is when we see the burn mark of Lan Zhan (after WeiYing resurrects) is it because he did it to himself? I am waiting for the 4th novel to read them altogether so I am sorry if it is explained in the novel.
Rabbits are a symbol of homosexuality in China so when he asked if Lan Zhan likes rabbits, he was actually asking if he liked men... Lan Zhan replied that he loved them thus explaining why Wei Ying was so happy after hearing his answer
Watching this video reminds me of LORDS CRITICAL WORLD seeing that THE UNTAMED has beautiful love btn the leads makes me wish that LCW also had this , it had it's moments but the ending got me in a sobbing mess, like seriously I cried so hard but I still love it . I hope you could make a beautiful video for that drama too. Thanks for the video, it's truly beautiful I love it
China: we have censorship
The Untamed: forehead ribbon tying, bowing to ancestors, chicken dowry, song composing for someone else, "you're my soulmate" lines, child adoptions etc. etc. etc.

@Brim can we talk about how causally Xichen just said "yeah sure, bring him back" while he still thought that wei ying was high on that demonic shit??? #BestBroXichen
Here's another strong indication of romantic feelings which I've noticed very few people point out:
Near the end of Episode 24, when Wei Ying and Senior Sister were chatting with each other inside the Jiang family ancestral shrine, Wei Ying at one point asked Senior Sister: "Why does a person like someone?...I mean *that* kind of like", and as he said that, his hand seemed to indicate his heart.
Yea, you're totally right! There really isn't anyone else he could've possibly had romantic feelings for at that point other than Lan Zhan.
In the book, he actually meant to talk about Jin Zixuan, asking Jiang Yanli why she liked him, someone like him so much. But it could be interpreted as a hint toward his emotions towards Lan Wangji too.
@@dramaobsession6619 hey can u confirm about the rrflection of Lan Zhan in Wei Yings eyes at the ending???
Haha I know that was a line straight out of the novel and it's soooo romantic. Maybe the censorship people weren't watching that closely LOL
@@franf45 Ohhhh! That's so good! I haven't got to that part in the book and didn't know he actually called for LWJ. Thank you!
I also love the reactions of Jiang Chen (worried, jealous, annoyed), Meng Yao (yep I understand this), and Lan Xichen (they are unbearably romantic, I might cry).
yes!!!
@@drLorimertruely one of the best scenes cause of all the reations. (lan xichen is just great .he shipped them from the beginning)
Patricia Peters it’s LZ voice that says WY
Of course Wei Ying will only bat his eyes for the one he loves. Hehe.
@@Concepcion30 🤣🤣🤣
it is literally lan zhan the end!! we hear a "wei ying" and that's when wei wuxian turns around and smiles . nobody else in the series calls Wei Wuxian, wei ying, other than lan zhan!!
The fact that the only time we see him cry has to do with Wei Ying 🥲
I think it was further confirming for Lan Zhan the truth that he knew 16 years ago before they reunited, he was head over heels in love with Wei Wuxian.
When Lan Zhan hides Wei Wuxian in the precious home where his mother lived most of her life and broke all the rules to save his soul mate 🤧❤
And so it brings us to another line: "What is black and what is white."
It's an interesting comparison too bc of the colours they wear.
This interpretation made me tear up..oh Lan Wangji the man you are..
He loves him romantically the way his father loved his mother actually even more than that😍😍😍❤❤❤
when it came to feeling and realizing them...WWy was pretty dumb. he didn't see his feelings or LWJs love😄oh boy...
If you watch the special version of the series where it focuses on just them, the ending has them in the waterfalls standing together ❤
From what I understand when they were doing the editing, they switched the last few scenes to avoid getting in trouble, but after everything aired, they corrected the ending with the special edition 🥰 that's why yibo was confused that Xiao was correcting him during the interview.
Now that makes more sense, I found it kinda weird, I don't why, but found it weird that they were playing music together smiling so widely, like they arent about to just part away, before they parted, went up the mountain and than parted.
It make more sense now
@@igot7armytaekook308 you should watch the special edition, it's so much better
special edition that have 20 episode? is that it?
@@allexguico3933 yes, that's the one. It even includes more scenes that were not in the original series. I hope you enjoy 😉
Agreed! I love their little interactions together!
Hehe, Lord 不觉得
Yes they are together at the end, because when Wei Ying is playing the flute, someone call his name, and then Wei Ying turn around to see that person and smile brightly
I feel like a lot of people are stuck with the mask thing and typically I would agree that mask in shows are dumb. However, remember that he’s suppose to be in Mo Xanyu’s body, which means that they would have had to change actors for the live action. Using a full face mask would not allow us to see expressions either, so I think this did work for this drama.
This is not like a Superman situation.
Yea, I mostly find the mask thing kinda funny. I agree that it's way better than actually having a new actor - that wouldn't have worked at all.
@@jenigotit749 I agree
Agree totally. I do not know which is the better way to do this, to change a new actor or….. but definitely would like to see more of the original actor. And after learning about this character was actually in another person’s body, when watch again I have a totally change of feeling towards this character.
I love the subtitles on the video, apparently it's a romance between Lunch and Waiting... 😂
Hahahaha
Hahaha oops! Those are auto-generated. Guess I should replace them with my own subtitles...
@@sunnystars9162yeah !!! True … noticed that just now ❤. I was thinking why that ‘Fortunately’ for. Thanks 🙂😊

@@dramaobsession6619 thanks a lot 🥰
I think that they both also represent Yin and Yang ☯️ The two opposite forces, the feminine and the masculine, the darkness and the light, earth and heaven. The two major forces responsible of life. Wei Ying is the feminine, the darkness and the earth, while Lan Zhan is the masculine, the light (as his title Han Guang Jun also suggests) and the heaven.
Oh, and also Wei Ying's name written as 魏婴 contains the character for female 女 in both characters of his name.

Something I haven't seen people talk about in these videos in the burn mark! In the tortoise cave scene, Wei Ying clearly describes what the iron mark means (it shows he cared for and protected a girl).
Now, fast forward to the resurrection of Wei Ying,
There's the scene where Lan Zhan is healing in the cold pool. Wei Ying walks up to him and sees that he has many whip lashes on his back. Lan Zhan turns around and reveals the same iron mark on his chest, in the same place as Wei Ying's. (Which, note, is in a similar spot to where the heart is)
The point was always made very clear that Lan Zhan was always extremely protective over Wei Ying, Whenever someone even raised their voice at him It would get Lan Zhan on edge.
I think that this whole iron mark deal is such a clear sign that Lan Zhan truly would devote his life to Wei Ying and definitely not in a comrade way!!
Let's just say that, combined with everything mentioned in this video, I think the pair were anything but platonic. and we couldn't be happier!!!
yes to this!
Please help me 😭😭😭😭
It's hard to move on! I think I "moved on" by transferring my love for the Untamed for my obsession with the Lanzhan actor, Wang Yibo, haha!
IAM so obsessed with this Untamed....
It's like a addiction.....
♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
I am the same keep watching it again on you tube, helped me through lockdown! 🙄
@@karenarthur9432 😍😍😍😍😍😍
Yea it took me months to "move on"... I started this RUclips channel because I needed to talk about it, hahaha
@@dramaobsession6619 😁😁😁😁😁😁
Hooray! So glad you enjoyed the video and that it confirmed what you thought about the ending!
Yea, I was really dissatisfied too when I first watched the ending! But then I did some research and decided they were together for sure :)
Oh I forgot about that! Do you know which episode it's in? Doesn't Lanzhan show up right after that exchange?
@@dramaobsession6619 It's episode 40, it's after some boys of the Jin sect went to bother Jin Ling, I don't remember if Lan Zhan shows up but I don't think so. By the way, loved your video! :)
@@samucandoit he didn't show up in the drama ! It was in the novel and manhua.
@@wilting_hyacinth13 Yes! Thank you.
Wow, I never knew that, that's fascinating!
i loved this vid so much omg I cant stop screaming at the thought of wangxian finally getting together in CQL though we never got to see it due to censorship. Thank you for this
The director did say Wangxian, but he told it to Xiao Zhan so when Yibo asked XZ, XZ answered and Yibo was confused for a good second. He then followed by “is the song named Wangxian?” Which XZ answered by saying “yes”
Is kind of funny how the director is like slowly joining them together by telling them subtle hints or calling them “couple” “boyfriends” “wife and husband”
Your analysis hit the point that's why we love The untamed because not only we can see many beautiful people but we can see how true love is 👏👏👏👏👏👏
they are most definitely together, at the very last scene, wei ying smiles.
The Untamed is seriously a Love story we will never forget in a life time ❤️
Your videos are fantastic! I hadn't noticed Wei Wuxian had different clothes in the ending-scene, so thank you for pointing that out! 🤗🇸🇪🇸🇪🇸🇪
I will like to add three scenes
1) after lan zhan was sober and wei Ying said he spilled some of his secrets like lan Zhan likes....( Lan Zhan panicked af obviously thinking he confessed his love)
2) there was a boat scene after wei Ying and lanzhan saved the boys from burial mounds.....the leaders of few sects were gossiping in a boat...there they started gossiping about wei Ying and everybody started laughing suggestively...I'm 99% sure they were talking about lan zhans relationship with wei Ying
3) at the boat scene Jiang chen heard the conversation..he seems angry...then after the bowing towards parents scene when Jiang chen catches wei Ying and lan Zhan he mocks their relationship.....that was also a big hint I think
Continue with the videos, they're super interesting! I'm sure your channel will grow ♡
Thanks for the words of encouragement!! I need them! haha
at the end you can see Lan Zhan's reflection in Wei Ying's eyes. if it was intentional by the director or not, still a great shot and a giveaway for them being together.
I’m watching it for the second time and I got my WangXian goggles on lol. I love the subtlety
OMG this is so good! i didn't know how much these scenes meant!!!!
Love your videos on the Untamed! It clarifies so much for me that I am foreigner to Chinese culture. Many thanks
Omg thank you so much for explaining, I was curious why people were saying there was romance in it...I was sooooo blind 😅😂
this channel is so underrated omg, ur videos r so good!
Thanks so much! Comments like yours keep me going 😁
They are too perfect ♥️Beyond everything 💙
Just like the other video I watched by you, THANK YOU SO MUCH.
Yeah in the last scene we also hear Lan Zhan calling him and that is when he moves to see who called him
Yes, definitely Lan Zhan's voice!
thank you for the explanations. wow. so many hidden things i did not realize while watching the show. - you're right. subtle and slow burn is so much more exciting. it's like holding the bait in front of the prey so it would bite at it but it never actually gets it. 🤣😅 - thank you again!
Thanks for your explanation
After watching the drama I have doubt whether they are sincere friends or lovers !!!
Your Video give all the hints
Noticed some other points as well
1. Lan Zhan don't like anybody touches him . Nobody will go near to him as well. And noone is eligible to speak with him as well. But always he will speak & explains things with Wei Ying. Always holding Wei before falling down . On the bridge he is carrying him on back and holding him tightly on his shoulder in the inn and Wei smiled
2. Lan Zhan got drunk and on the next day he asked what he has done . When Wei Ying told ‘you told that you like … ‘ then his panic face explains very well
3. The burned mark on Lan Zhan’s chest . And he was not hiding his body this time. last time he hided his body from Wei Ying. Wei Ying told before the saved girl will remember him for his life time with that mark. Now it’s a lifetime remembrance for him as well
4. If anyone is there also without noticing them all the time glances each other
5. While Wei Ying fell down on top of Lan Zhan , his glance at him 😍
6. Lot other hints like chicken, rabbits , asking his sis about love , cave scene , in lotus lake Wei Ying laying on Lan Zhan’s lap, their 3 times bow down , hair band touching & tying together , Affectionate look etc etc. it is really clear that they are in love. Not a simple friendship 🥰🥰🥰
Enjoyed the drama!! But struggling to come out from that now 😒
I enjoyed your review I picked it all up on the drama. Thank you. Especially the ending. Same thought
Really well explained, watched the untamed many times and not being Chinese hadn't realised all of the meanings behind things. 👍😊🙋♀️
Glad it was helpful!
I am a bit bit sad now, that China have LGBTQ banned, but this drama was the best drama I have watched from China, they expressed the emotion and everything without needing to exactly say things directly
gurl you really make my day, this vids of yours make me giggle from the start to the end.thank you for this...kudos!
Haha I'm glad you enjoyed them!
Thank you so much for the video it means a lot for a BL fan like me😭😭😭May you be live a happy life ❤️
so nice of you too explain it clearly-- from the Philippines
Thank you so much for making this video
You're welcome! I hope you enjoyed it!
That smile at the end 😍😭😭😭😭
Can see Lan zhan reflected in wei ying's eyes too ☺
I don't think I ever looked close enough to see the reflection, lol

You are the best!!! Ur review is awesome
Thanks so much! I'm really happy that you enjoyed it :)
😍😍😍😍 I love your vedio...now it's all clear to me...thank you so much 🤗🤗❤️
Sis...this is so accurate...I swear if anyone tells me Lan Zhan & Wei Ying are just 兄弟...I am going to shove this video in front o their face.
Hahahaha! In Chinese they they call this kinda relationship 社会主义兄弟情 or Socialist Bromance.
@@dramaobsession6619 ... I'm-...LOL
@@dramaobsession6619 lol....
@@dramaobsession6619 Socialist bromance 😑🤣 that can't be a thing
@@CrisSelene haha it's a term that Chinese netizens came up with to get around censorship I think. It refers to these "bromances" shown in BL adaptations...
It's been one and a half year and I'm still not over it.....and you just made me want to repeat the drama for the 60th time maybe😭😭😭
Haha maybe take a break and then come back to it - it'll feel fresh and new again!
You're right I definitely will🥺 thanks 💜💜
i love to watch the untamed. since then i really follow yizhan they are both good actors, talented, and both handsome.. but sad sometimes i don't understand chinese words, thanks for the explanation.
Dude, they get married in the novel. This is so far beyond hinting, they are HUSBANDS!
I have been totally disappointed with censorship about boy’s love in the series so I looked for the novel. And after reading it, I have never been this contended my whole life! Hahaha. The novel is the key!😆😊
Is there an English translated version? I can’t seem to find it anywhere!
ep 43 clears every doubt , when Xichen told wei about his parents and ask wei whether he could feel for Lan father
I love your channel and your information. 😁❤️🇺🇸
When we hear Lan Zhan called Wei ying and he turns around, we can see the reflection of LZ in WY's eyes.
Hey sis... Vedio is amazing👍😍 loved it Wangxian ❤❤❤
Still I miss those parts of being touchy
Like how lan held wei hand
Lan picked wei bcoz of curse on his leg
And pulled him closer when they were meeting huaisang and after passing out at lotus pier...
And the times they confessed-
Lan to his brother about locking weiying up😜
Weiying to his sister how can someone fall in love (becoz of how he feels to lan) 😜😜
And at the time at cloud recessess and at the hunting tournament.. The exchange how they being each other's soulmates......
And the one time lan was caught by his brother 😁😁😂😂
Overall they both are always therefore each other 🤗🥺😍 but still they part ways and the end made me frustrated😤😫 but still they emphasis at last after weying was called out by lanzhan
Like how they're journey together will continue or so I think 😜🤑🤑🤑🤑🤓
So happy you enjoyed the video! I love all of their small interactions and their long smoldering glances at each other (especially from Lanzhan, lol)
Amazing video! I’m going to subscribe!
Awesome! Thank you!😁
Literally fangirling through the entire video fhsjshdkaks. THANK YOU
Haha glad you liked it😍
There's at least one more.
(The director even wanted Xiao Zhan to ride the donkey with both legs on one side (girlish-style), which nearly didn't work because Xiao Zhan struggled to keep the equilibrium on the donkey's back, so they were forced to use a "fake leg" to still be able to film it that way ^^)
-> So, yes, I am certain that the show is about a romance and NOT just friendship.
i was addicted with this drama. hoping for season 2 with thesame cast....
I think I always see the love in their eyes. ❤️
@@dramaobsession6619 yes! So many emotions in just a look. I loved it too
@@dramaobsession6619 that is one of my most favorite scene of the entire show!
