Kylian Mbappe looks to be on his way out of PSG and Ligue1. Following a stand off with the Paris based club, the forward is attracting a lot of interest from clubs around the world.
But after the departure of Karim Benzema, it's Real Madrid who are emerging as a front runner to pick up the French international. With the La Liga club in need of an elite striker, this should be an ideal match - but things might not be as easy as first thought.
JJ Bull, with a guest appearance from editor Don Ma, breaks down just why there are a few issues with Mbappe signing for Real.

Ancelotti is great at getting the best out of players individually, and RM do have some of the best players in their position on the planet. But the problem is, being that flexible leads to inconsistent performances. Not to mention you can extract more out of certain players when there is a rigid system around them. I’m not saying it won’t work, but just like any other system, being flexible has its positives and negatives. Players can’t solve everything themselves everytime, someone needs to think outside the box

Judging their pre-season games I believe Real already started to alter their formation already, trying to fit Bellingham and let him do what his best. Another tweak to let Mbappe occasionally hog that left flank and force Vini to roam more shouldn't be a problem.
I think vini wants to roam as well when he goes through the middle his quite effective

That's not correct Real Madrid have already spent their 400 million budget they won't be able to get him unless he goes to saudi arabia for 1 year and will be free after that because psg are selling him their for one year and he will be a free agent after that but it lays in mbappes hands. The "problem" is that he rejected PL clubs and wants to play for Madrid. Otherwise there is no scenario where signing the best player in the world can be spun as a negative.
Mbappe will return to being just a football player at Madrid, especially with that locker room. Any negatives regarding his position or play style is due to PSG being a circus.
Part of the reason, PSG is a circus is because of Mbappe himself, he is consistently in the media due to drama and issues he has with PSG.
That's because they let him get away with it. Madrid are a serious institution, if Mbappe cares about winning (he does) he'll adapt to the club's culture.

I think the problem with this is it doesnt take into account THAT RODRYGO DOES THE EXACT SAME THING. The little fact that is oftenly overlooked, is that he is a LW, not a RW. He only got there because he was better than Asensio and Vini pace is more of an assist than when he is out there. Hes way more clinical than Vini and generally is the only player madrid has (before Diaz returned) that could unlock a deep lying defense with his instinctual dribbling

@@Otto45 Idk, if long term that will be true. Mbappe has played at a higher top level than Rodrygo for a longer time, and he is older. Experience makes a difference. But that instinctual flair Rodrygo has, you cant coach that, its why hes always compared to Ronaldo Nazario. Mbappe's biggest assets is his pace and finishing, CR7 career showed you cant do it with pace alone. This is also why over time i also believe Rodrygo will surpass Vini, as he doesnt show an inclination for striker.

Real can play 433 with Rodrigo playing as a false nine. He has often mentioned that playing in that number 10 role is his preferred position as well. This will allow Vini to cut in from the left and Mbappe can cut in from the right hand side. It'd be similar to how Bale-Benzema-Cristiano operated.

Agreed. Especially considering he’s not a natural right winger, he often drifts centrally and the left for both supply and output. Bellingham can also play as an interior right midfielder and provide an outlet. It would honestly be a wonderful headache to have. Excited.

Mbappe’s heat map last season was almost identical to Benzema’s. He’ll take up the Benzema role and he’s actually best suited to replace Benzema. He’ll be just fine at RM
Well admittedly they bring that up pretty early in the video, where they quote Mbappe saying that he doesn’t like sticking in the center as much, and would rather be more free and mobile.
I bet that Mbappe joins next year and we either see a front 2 of Mbappe/Vini Jr, or a free-switching, fluid front 3 of Mbappe/Vini Jr/Rodrygo
Harry Kane is better as a replacement for Benzema than Mbappe. Mbappe is a better winger but we don't need wingers

Before the pre-season Ancelotti was rumored to play a diamond 4 in the mid and two up top, Vini + Striker. I think M'Bappe fits there perfectly and in the preseason it helps as it gives more room for Bellingham to run and not just look for through passes. Also this gives M'Bappe more freedom. Rodrygo was literally moving around all game vs Man United and not stuck toa pivot role. Also Madrid, with Bellingham and even Vini, will play a lot to filter balls that M'Bappe love to run into. If there ever was a Madrid to join its THIS one for Kylian.

The scariest part of mbappe linking in the midfield when RM are in their own end is that once he makes that pass he can head for the oppositions back line so fast , the counter with him and vini with passes from kroos and modric will be terrifying

The best thing to do when dealing with Mbappe on the pitch is to understand that he’s not a lone striker and if you play him as such you greatly diminish his abilities. It’s the same thing with Ronaldo, but for some reason, their managers refuse to see it

Its nice to think he was doing all of that unselfish central work for PSG. In reality he was constantly occupying the same left half space as Neymar leaving a gaping chasm in the centre, and when Messi filled it, that in turn would leave a gaping chasm down the right.
Everything else is spot on though and I too have often wondered how theyd incorporate/get the best out of Vini Jr and Mbappe in the same team
He wasn't occupying anything. The left half space was always Mbappe's. Neymar would play on the left if they wanted to overlap. He only started to really play centrally when Galtier came and it was terrible. Season started off well like every PSG season and then came to a grinding halt.

there is a catch, RM stated this pre-season playing a narrow diamond, ancelotti is trying to bring old his old milan formation, they are aving some issues on the pressing but its clear ther are preparing some changes to accomodate bellinham as a AM with full freedom and a striker duo, with could adjust easily to mbappe style of play (praying here that all this situations resolves next season and not this to give rodrygo a chance to demostrate that is a better player than vini)

They've already changed their system, with Bellingham being the linkup between the midfield and forwards...
I’d say have Jude or Rodrygo play as the false 9 like Benz would play drop back to receive the ball and create the play. And then have the explosive pace of Vini and Mbappe bombing down the wings.
Real Madrid actually changed there formation to 4-4-2 diamond ( which Ancelotte used in AC Milan ) in preseason to fit Bellingham who will have freedom as no. 10 and Mbappe will also be one of 2 strikers with also tactical freedom that if Mbappe actually went to Madrid

The issue with the diamond 442 is that it forces vini to play more centrally which isn't where he shines. If mbappe joins I see us going back to a 433. Possibly even with valverde as an inverted rb if we decide to play a more possession based system

Doesn’t the RM formation with Mbappe basically contradict everything that was said by Mbappe being utilized to his fullest. He’ll basically either be the #9 (Giroud’s position) which wouldn’t be the best use of him or he’ll have to fight for the LW spot with Vini with Joselu as the #9. It was mentioned that positional problems will only arise when “teams sit back against RM”, but with Mbappe & a star-studded RM every single team they play will be sitting back unless they’re either Bayern or Man City.
