This instant-fit pick-up Velcro's to itself around the the body of the instrument. It requires no alteration of the instrument itself and generates a strong signal which can usually be plugged straight into a mixing desk or combo amp. The Band pickup is popular with classical players who may not have a dedicated electric instrument. The Band pickup attaches and detaches quickly and safely from the lower bout of the violin without the need to modify the instrument in any way.
Thanks for this demo, for those contemplating a fishman v200 the pickup may not fit which requires modifications to violin. Ive sent it back and opting for the band which sounds pretty excellent.
Sounds very natural and great playing
The Band sounds better than all that wasp in jam jar stuff on other pickup postings and even better than a lot of small mic's.
ParcelOf Rogue -- Glad you like it! We do, too!
Thanks so much for posting these. Any chance you guys are going to also post/review the Schertler STAT-V pickup? I've really been wanting to try one of those for a while but haven't had much luck hearing decent comparison videos. I've read online in a few places that people converted the standard wire to fit with a carpenter jack, but I haven't really seen a lot of info as to whether the pickup will work without the Schertler powered preamp.
Thanks for watching! YES, we will be posting a STAT-V pretty soon, so stay tuned and subscribe if you don't already. We typically sell the STAT-V set, which includes the preamp and cable, however, you could purchase the pickup element and the Binder to 1/4" jack cable together without the preamp. This would allow you to plug into a preamp of your choice. If, once you hear our upcoming sound demo, you want to pursue this option just give us a call (919-806-3311) or email (info@electricviolinshop.com) and we can arrange it for you.
That said, since the STAT pickups are electrostatic and not piezoelectric, Schertler does strongly recommend using one of their preamps for best results.
The STAT-V video is up at ruclips.net/video/_y-74evO5SA/видео.html
I'm looking into the band and almost definitely will buy one after Christmas. In terms of using it to record violin, does it sound quite natural with some churchy reverb on it?
To record? I'd definitely suggest a microphone instead of The Band - or at least in conjunction with The Band.
I'm recording right now and using a pickup and two mics at the same time.
However, beauty is in the ear of the beholder. You can hear what the direct output sounds like in this video. If that sounds good to you, then it's probably good enough - especially if you don't have a good mic or a good room.
Does anyone know how to deal with the buzzy noise that happens when you play very hard on the G string?
Matt question is way off subject about the Band. I'm interested in the Fishman Loudbox Mini. But I live in Germany...is it dual voltage? or will I be needing a transformer?
The Loudbox is not dual voltage. The ones sold here in the US are 120v. From the manual...
"Operate the amplifier only at the voltage indicated on the rear panel.
For 120V amplifiers purchased in the USA, Canada and Mexico, plug in the
supplied detachable AC power cable.
For 100V and 230V amplifiers purchased outside the USA and Canada, you will
need to supply your own detachable AC cable. This cable must have an IECstyle
320 connector at one end, and a male AC plug appropriate for your region
at the other."
Don't know what your amp budget is like but you may want to consider the Acoustic Image amps (Corus, Coda and Ten2). They are dual voltage, extremely hi-fi with ridiculous headroom for phenomenally clean tone with bowed strings. Also no bigger than the Loudboxes, so footprint (and shipping costs) are the same.

yea, my budget is definately under 1000
You might be able to find a European model where you are.
Je l'ai, c'est bien !
Does it require phantom power?
No.
Any idea about the impedance of The Band ?
Unsure of the exact specs but it is a high impedance multi-piezo pickup. It will work fine directly into any acoustic instrument amp, or into a sound board using a DI box.
@@ElectricViolinShop Thank you so much. Sorry I'm dumb when it comes to electrical stuff. Isn't low impedance better than high impedance for a use without a preamp ?
No worries, @@pierre1509. All that really matters is whether the input impedance on whatever you're plugging into is high enough for the output impedance of the pickup (in this case The Band). That's why we recommend either a DI box, which will lower your signal's impedance drastically making it match up well with mixers, or plugging straight into an acoustic instrument amplifier. The Fishman Loubox Mini amp, for example, has an input impedance of 10MOhms (10 million Ohms). That's high enough and then some for pretty much any piezoelectric pickup you can find, including The Band.
@@ElectricViolinShop Thanks. I think that I'll need to work on that but your message gave me all the necessary keywords to work with !
