Finally someone that also finds the Switch axe to be the hardest weapon in the game. I love this weapon and it's my main since I started MHW at release but man sometimes it just feels bad when you can't land a nice combo because of the amount of vulnerability windows you have on you with this weapon. But when you play it perfectly it's just the best weapon in the game, I will always stand by the swag axe even if they scrap the elemental counter that Sunbreak introduces in MH Wilds.
I can't say I'm surprised at the ranking you gave GL if you play like that. Passively poking the monster while hiding behind a shield is like playing worse lance. Personally, slotting evade extender is mandatory for GL because the side hops become so fast and responsive and are a great way to get out of trouble.
personally I would love to enjoy GL. But capcom has made it so that the weapon is so slow and not rewarding. I love pulling out a wyrmstake but doing the whole combo with the long ass animations in solo is not worth it, even with shieldspire palico. It's not enjoyable having to sit through lengthy animations all the time you're getting jumped.
@@H1r0x Double blast follows up with a wyrmstake. Or loading it (guard point) and pressing both attack buttons follows up with a wyrmstake. It is so worth it. Ups your damage by a lot and trips the monster so god damn much. I have had solo hunts where the poor monster was longer tripped than fighting.
@@H1r0x wyrmstake is definitely a slow move, it's probably not meant to be used outside of unloading the WSB, using the slinger ammo loading + triangle + circle, or circle circle circle
@H1r0x GL is not necessarily a slow weapon, you just can't spam the big damage stuff and expect it to land. Same deal with something like sns - perfect rush spam doesn't work if the monster isn't mobilized, but nobody is gonna call sns a slow weapon lol. If you want good dps that is low commitment you can go wide GL and poke-shell combo. You can combo into your big damage moves off of a quick reload so for example if you topple a monster while shelling you can quick reload - slap combo into stake and then wyvern fire. If you're hitting a good hit zone with slap lance this combo will do like 3k+ damage with raging brachy set. A big benefit of GL is its ability to topple. Go for legs because your shells ignore hitzones then slap lance combo on a good hit zone and the outcome is you're probably doing way more damage than most people you'd play with in hunts. Check out caoslayer on yt if you are interested in learning GL. It has more nuance than may be initially apparent. Underrated and fun weapon with good build options
Interesting how opinions on weapons vary in MH community. Swaxe was always my main and I found it easier than the other weapons when I was new to the game. Good vid. Can't wait to see more weapon vids once Wilds come out
I did my first playthrough of the main/side quests with Lance. After 100+ hours of that, I wanted to try something without a shield, but with all that muscle memory I kept forgetting that I needed to dodge instead of tank through stuff. I felt like Wimp Lo in Kung Pow.
Newbie weapon experiences: As a person who started world, and basically the franchise, with the hunting horn, I enjoy being the healer. I certainly wasn't the best at it (A few failed quests here and there gave me a rain check on what should I truly main) but I must admit that having a support, even if it's myself and my palico, is better than nothing. I semi dropped it once i needed tails for things. At that point I picked up the long sword which I hated for a few quests till it clicked. Knocking those airborne wyverns was extremely satisfying. Once I got tired of the LS I moved to the great sword. It barely lasted 20 quests... After which I moved to the insect glaive. I even centered a whole set about staying in the air before realizing thats not the meat and bones of the weapon. It got me through a lot of fights and am still fond of the weapon. Later, I tried the sword and shield, my current main till I want to get good with either the charge blade or switch axe.
Insane how both of my mains ended up on the extreme opposites of the tier list. GL will always be my reliable go to for its defense and counter attacking in how easy it is to poke from behind a shield while still being mobile with the foreword dash strike.
As a gunlance main, I'd always say give gunlance a chance. Yea its combo string feels slow, it's not as flashy as charge blade or swax and doesn't deal big damage like greatsword, but if you like facetanking monsters and want to do something more than just pokes and thrusts, look no further. Interesting tier list, I'd say.
I played World as my first Monster Hunter. I picked Insect Glaive first, and it carried me through the game because most monsters couldnt hit me while i attacking from the air
If you've played all the weapons to intermediate level, you'll see how hard the Switch Axe actually is and how high the skill ceiling is if you know the spacing of the attacks.
Yeah I 100% agree. Switch axe is a weapon that is super simple in concept and very easy to use at low level, but insanely difficult to use well. Spacing and defense are so difficult on that weapon That's part of what makes it so appealing though. Such a large opportunity for entry and growth
As a Switchaxe main, I find it interesting that you have a harder time with Switchaxe, and I can’t figure out the Chargeblade. I wonder if it’s one of those things where “which part of your brain do you use more?” comes into play and me and you are just on the opposite sides of that question. I respect the Hell outta you guys cuz it seems so complex to me. Too many things to remember
Trust me, once you learn the basic concepts on charge blade it will all click and you will see why he talks as he does. I say this as a person who went a long time being incapable of using cb It's got a lot of systems but once you understand them they're not hard to use really. I think it's especially hard just because you have to remember so many buttons the game never teaches you 😂
You can just savage axe instead of Super amped elemental discharge then. Hell you can just go charged sword too, if you want mobility and morph slash for when you need the reach
Here's the trick: CB and GL use basically the same gear. So just learn both and according to the monster. Need to play safe or disregard hitspots? Use GL. Can exploit openings or just generally need to do a bit more damage? Use CB.
Fear not lil bro, Gunlance mains know this is just one man's list. In reality, a good Gunlance hunter is worth twenty Charge Blade suckers who flap around trying to guard counter or land their biggest, flashiest move for a chance at dealing reasonable damage. If it don't go boom, make some room.
CB is overrated. Im a swaxe main but also play CB and IG but outside of new players CB is one of the most played weapons next to LS. And tbh i dont think that CB gameplay is overly complex or hard to master. You generally play around 1 guard point and can then freely punish many attacks. Obviously theres more to it but people tend to make a big deal out of playing CB. GS is infinitely more difficult to play. I played 1,2k hours in mhwib
Although you make a good point about the insect glaive being the aerial weapon, you do more dmg on the ground so it's best to keep to the ground unless you know the monster can be mounted
I accidentally made my friends über lazy playing a wide range HH build in Iceborne so when I switched back to swaxe, which I beat the base game with, they wondered why the monsters were so much more difficult lmao
9:08 "i personally didn`t play gunlance alot" it shows, what is that gameplay??? ive never seen a worse gunlance performance, No wonder you put it in the lowest tier.
I'd love to see a rise version of this tier list specifically for gunlance and just due to how much mobility they added to the weapon and how going back to other games it feels like it should just be default for the weapon
CB was the most satisfying in terms of skill progression, waking up and knowing I will improve slowly was fun in of itself. Definitely brutal to learn though.
4:49 We, the Counsel of Doots, warned you 3 years ago that we approved of your video but would continue to watch..and wait... You have been found wanting and your betrayal has been found out. Better sleep with one eye open. Your fate has been decided.
Your garage blade video and this one made me want to try it out. Now it's my fav, overlapping SnS. As someone who can't play Bloodborne (don't have a playstation), using a weapon that looks like a trick weapon really scratches an itch.
As a gunner main, its always fun if u have 4 hbg sticky build and when monster is down everyone just start shooting cluster or wyvern, tried it a few times, u can only see explosion, cant even see the monster. But most of the time playing with random u can only shoot sticky and other support ammo.
As a switch axe main I've never felt so validated in a video. It has incredible offense but with very little defensive options. It's attacks are big and have long reach but with more recovery. What I love about it is playing the mid range, footsies type game with the monster until I get the opportunity to tear in into a monster. You have to know the match up or else you will be eating dirt. The fade slash they added in iceborne was a god sent.
I love the switch axe, it feels like im genuinely dancing with certain monsters when i play it, even if im not the best with the weapon yet its def my main one ive been using all the way to guiding lands, tho i do wanna branch out more and pick up another weapon, i just dont know what id go with personally that gives me the same satisfaction
I'd say that CB is hard to *remember what you're doing with it* but SA is *hard to use* because of how hard you get punished for overextending and your complete lack of defensive tools
Eh.. SA is easy compared to CB. People get punished while playing SA because they keep spamming Zero Skill Discharge, which isn't even the optimum damage dealer.
At first I thought you were going to give Dual Blades a bad tier, but I'm comfortable with the placing. I can't say much since at the moment of posting this comment I still haven't finished Iceborne, so perhaps there's more for me to learn and perfect the DB techniques. The biggest drawback is the very short range and the insane stamina consumption but, boy whenever I connect with the bayblade spin it's so satisfying.
You’re really good with the weapons that were showcasing 😊 thanks for sharing I have some idea of what I’m gonna try out now! Everything sss and above hahaha!
My only problem with charge blade (my main) is that you are stuck in long animation. That is why I changed changed to SA, way more dynamic gameplay IMO (with evade extender 3)
New to mhw but gotta say I love the charge blade I can see why its top tier its a really fun weapon once you learn its mechanics being able to empower the blade, shield, and axe while swiftly switching between them and using guard point.
0:53 AOT reference with jojo “menacing” kanjis (is that a Jojo reference) and Rules of nature from MGRR playing in the background… pinnacle of perfection
Bow only has high dps if you have the mosnter fully tenderize and use power arrows and hit weakapot that you tenderized. Only lasts 90 seconds and usually the mosnter runs. But we agile
Is that a mod that gives pickups that little beam of light so you can see them easier? I need that so bad when a monster drops a material in the Hoarfrost Reach
I use the heavy bowgun because in my head is the only realistic way a human could hunt those monsters, and MH universe called my attention exactly because it was "realistic" in the meaning that if you wanna hunt something you really need to track it down, chase, trap, use consumables and monsters are always way more powerful then you.
The switch axe can be played in a good flow you can actually switch between sword and axe mode and turn to the side or back to use those attacks to dodge but keep attacking technically, you have to use the right moves predicting almost bc its not much room to play with its very close combat almost but thats what i love its very different i feel like bc its always soo close to getting hit while dancing a composed slower dance😅 but to master it i had to kinda disregard the other weapons completely haha
Really making wanna try bow again. Bow is the one weapon I don't consider myself at least somewhat knowledgeable in and this video has successfully relight the fire in me to try it again.
I'm a CB main, but SnS is the most fun in my opinion. It just feel very athletic running, rolling, attacking, then back to running, then clutch claw shoryuken, wall bang, heal your allies, grab slinger ammo, attack again, stun the monster with your shield, and on and on. It feels you're doing so many different things non stop through out the fight, it's so fun.
Awesome video! As a new MHW and MH player in general, I appreciate getting some insight on a Veteran player on a good general idea of how a weapon plays and even how it does against most monsters. This helps me pick a few I plan to play with before I commit to mastery. I also wanted to ask how you got items to show as light pillars? Is that a mod of a setting in game that I can't seem to find. Got a sub and a like from me
Longsword switchaxe charge blade are legendary, hammer and insect glaive are sss+,greatsword bow heavy bowgun and gunlance are sss, lightbow gun lance and dual blades and sns are good, this list is partly difficulty and the reward of being able to handle the difficulty of the weapons mastery ,and also the fun factor.
Ok I’m new to the game how does that TCS after the wall bang come out so fast, like I see a kick into a tackle into TCS but when I tackle I skip to the second combo not TCS
Ive been a charge blade main for years and finally am giving the switch axe a shot and oh my god the switch axe is so much fun and insanely powerful. Id definitely put it up there with charge blade. Its soooo fun
Try Gunlance. CB uses the same gear. As a user of both; you'll find that some fights are easier with GL because it is just so much safer - giving you more openings arguably. GL is very comfortable; but if defense is NOT your concern, then CB does more damage generally.
Poor hammer got downgraded... Several other weapons stun too now... as well as slinger ammo... But since they did that they had to increase the stun threshold... And because monsters are now significantly faster AND some of them just permafly it is also harder to go for the head... Its just AERIAL SPIN now.
Anyone have any tips for bow?? Ive been wanting to use it for years now but i dont feel like im doin it right by using it like a normal bow you'd see in other games 💀💀

personally I would love to enjoy GL.
Good vid. Can't wait to see more weapon vids once Wilds come out
Man that gunlance clip was painful to watch.
100% shouldn’t rate it if you don’t know how to use it
Yeah maybe its a joke but its a bad one GL its my main and its nowhere near that dull.
Yeah came here to comment. He just didn’t know a thing about it.
He did put it to hmmm since he probably can't rate it
I did my first playthrough of the main/side quests with Lance. After 100+ hours of that, I wanted to try something without a shield, but with all that muscle memory I kept forgetting that I needed to dodge instead of tank through stuff. I felt like Wimp Lo in Kung Pow.
Newbie weapon experiences:
As a person who started world, and basically the franchise, with the hunting horn, I enjoy being the healer.
If I could rocket boost around like you can in Rise, I would never touch another weapon in World lol
as a lifelong bow main, thank you...
also, safi aquashot sticky 2 is **chef kiss**
Spacing and defense are so difficult on that weapon
That's part of what makes it so appealing though.
I say this as a person who went a long time being incapable of using cb
It's got a lot of systems but once you understand them they're not hard to use really. I think it's especially hard just because you have to remember so many buttons the game never teaches you 😂
Never liked chargeblade, i just love whittling away rather than big attacks
Justice for gunlance :(
hmmm
yep, don't prefer CB either.
So happy to see the Charge Blade get the recognition, love and respect it deserves 👌
Well see if I ever Doot for you again...
Us Doot mains will not stand for this betrayal.
Yes you, me and the other two HH mains shall not forget this.
We shall not! Our doots should be treasured!
I'd love to see a rise version of this tier list specifically for gunlance and just due to how much mobility they added to the weapon and how going back to other games it feels like it should just be default for the weapon
sadly, GL its still considered low tier in rise/sunbreak
Wide-range hunting horn with mushroomancer is the fastest way to getting infinite friend requests. And slowest way to solo anything.
Not only a nice tier list but also a great weapon showcase made by a skilled hunter. Love it, man 👏
As CB main, I approve of this list
as a CB main too, i approve of this comment
My man uses normal gunlance to block and single blast. 0 clue on how to rate that godly weapon.
Reported for misinformation
Charge blade, the perfect blend of offense and defense with a high skill ceiling. Amazing weapon.
CB was the most satisfying in terms of skill progression, waking up and knowing I will improve slowly was fun in of itself. Definitely brutal to learn though.
before video: "Okay I'll watch this and if he says Gunlance is good, I'll keep using it."
after video: "Hmmmm, I think I'll keep using it."
In the search for masochistic complexity, people forget the beauty of simplicity. Gunlance, the gentleman's weapon.
4:49 We, the Counsel of Doots, warned you 3 years ago that we approved of your video but would continue to watch..and wait...
You have been found wanting and your betrayal has been found out. Better sleep with one eye open. Your fate has been decided.
hell yeah charge blade main ' Respect
As a Hammer Main the Hammer needs to be God Tier!!!
Based
i recently found out you can actually feed your insect with the slingshot ammo
I love the switch axe, it feels like im genuinely dancing with certain monsters when i play it, even if im not the best with the weapon yet its def my main one ive been using all the way to guiding lands, tho i do wanna branch out more and pick up another weapon, i just dont know what id go with personally that gives me the same satisfaction
after seeing the 4 GL vs fatalis video, I can never look at the weapon the same again
As a CB main, Great way to end the year of the tiger
All my greatsword chad users out there ,just know that i love yall❤
My balls hurt
"it was the only weapon I could beat rathalos in MHFU"
Honestly, same.
You’re really good with the weapons that were showcasing 😊 thanks for sharing I have some idea of what I’m gonna try out now! Everything sss and above hahaha!
Honestly, every weapon is good once you have an actual build set up. I run insect glaive, thunder bow, and heavy bowgun.
Happy to see it, and friendly dissent in the comments with explanations why. The game, is goooood.
In my mind dualblades is god tier!
Dualblades go brrrrr!
Slightly irrelevant but, what armor do you have on? Can’t find the name of that waist anywhere
Is that a mod that gives pickups that little beam of light so you can see them easier? I need that so bad when a monster drops a material in the Hoarfrost Reach
I feel that a heavybow gunner deciding to kill best boy dodogama is accurate, true menaces to society they are.
Sword & Shield and the Insect Glaive, I should give those a try sometime!
@@rustygear447 That does sound really fun!!
What armor are you using?
Very nice weapons presentation!:) Exept of Lance and GunLance:))
I'm CB main but recently went back to world and started playing GS... it's totally different but when it hits... O M G
To all my swag axe users just remember:
No pain, no gain
How do you do that hammer combo? I've tried to find out for myself and I can't figure it out.
Greatsword are legendary bro! Ls user are always such a nuissance with no damage
13:19 whats is backstab move?
Awesome video! As a new MHW and MH player in general, I appreciate getting some insight on a Veteran player on a good general idea of how a weapon plays and even how it does against most monsters. This helps me pick a few I plan to play with before I commit to mastery. I also wanted to ask how you got items to show as light pillars? Is that a mod of a setting in game that I can't seem to find. Got a sub and a like from me
Why do the objects on the floor glow like a column of light? I play on the PC and don't have that. Can I change the settings?
As a S&S main I definitely agree it’s just so versatile!
Aiming on blank space was psychopath bro 👹
the hammer make every monster the same when well used
yep, a fine red paste on the ground
Is it a mod (if so whats the name pls) that gives the extra highlight to mat drops? Just came back to world but never saw those extra highlights
8:10 true Lance player will tank through all that meanwhile poke the monster a million times
Its just AERIAL SPIN now.
thanks for the list, man I was looking for an alternative weapon to use to help me cut tails, since I always use hammer
Bro sounded like an AI with the HH opinion didn’t even state how he feels about it. Ambivalent I guess
The way you play the weapons in each showcase proves you are truly a Master Class Hunter
Nope
"I don't play GL a lot"
Bro didn't do any move with GL.
@@MrJasper502because he doesn’t play it a lot
Is that dual blade move you demonstrated only in rise??? Where you roll along the monsters back doing damage slicing as you go????
This is for world, and its in both.
@ZappyZ21 Awesome, thank you. How do you trigger that move? Is it from a grapple onto a monster with the claw, or is it a combo?
@@insidiousraven2374 it's a slide move specifically, and you have to be in demon mode I'm pretty sure. No hill no demon Levi mode lol
@ZappyZ21 Sweet, thanks.
Anyone have any tips for bow?? Ive been wanting to use it for years now but i dont feel like im doin it right by using it like a normal bow you'd see in other games 💀💀
this is the first wpn tier list i have watched that has an objective opinion for each weapon. every weapon is god tier if you like it and you understand how to play it. Main Lance, SnS, GS and Bow here. have fun, and lets all wait and cheer for Monster Hunter Wilds 2025
All the wpn in a nutshell imo:
Longsword
- base game: RYUUJIN NO KEN WO KURAE
- iceborne: IAI. SHISHI SONSON!
Dual Blades:
- base game: Fruit Ninja in a crack
- Iceborne: GIVE ME A DASH JUICE AND PUT ME IN A ODM GEAR ALREADY. Also, STARBURST STREAMMMM!!
Greatsword:
- base game: omg did i actually just hit it?! Also, PLS LET ME TCS THE MONSTERS WHEN IT SLEEP 😭😭😭
- iceborne: COME. I DARE YOU TO DO ANYTHING. **laughs in tackle and slinger burst**
Hammer:
- base game: BONK.
- iceborne: BONK EVEN HARDER. also, RODDAAA ROLLERRR DAAA!
Insect Glaive:
- base game: Haha look at me im flying weeee.....
- iceborne: Hahaha look at me flying again weee, come on my pet insect lets fly together.... (The joke is sadly Glaive is one of the worst dps wpn compared to the others, but funny enough one of the most enjoyable and fun wpn gameplay)
Charge Blade:
- base game: LET ME CHARGE MY WPN FIRST GODDAMNIT!
- iceborne: haha. Savage Axe goes brrrrrrrr (the user says while swinging all of his teammate to the sky)
Hunting Horn:
- base game: does this wpn have combo counter? Ooo it got a Melody Notepad pog. Also, PLS LET ME FINISH MY ENCORE FIRST 😭😭😭
- iceborne: GET ON THOSE ECHO BUBBLE BOYSSSS! (The user says while spamming echo melody)
Bow:
- base game: why the heck is my dmg so small? Wdym i deal less dmg the further i am?!
Iceborne: RYUUGA WAGA TEKI WO KURAU
Gunlance:
- base game: BOOM BOOM BOOM *THRUST* KABOOM
- Iceborne: HAVE SOME OF THIS! (the user said while sticking Wvyernstake Mine to the Monster butt)
Lance:
- base game: wdym im the worst dps wpn in the game?
- Icerborne: ROYAL GUARD! *counter and deal only abt just 10% of its base dmg*. And PLS STAY AWAY FROM ME I KEEP GETTING FLINCHED FROM ALL OF U GUYS WPN 😭. Also, Wdym im still the worst dps wpn in the game?
Hvy Bowgun:
- base game: haha gun goes pew pew pew
- iceborne: THIS BADBOY HERE IS A 50 CAL SNIPER RIFLE. AND THIS BADBOY HERE IS A SPAS-12 SHOTGUN WITH 0 RECOIL. AND THIS ONE HERE IS A AR-15 WITH A PIERCING AMMO ROUNDS. AND THIS ONE HERE... (the users said while showing the god amount of hbg loadout they own)
Light Bowgun:
- base game: so you are saying my wpn is useless and ineffective againts heavy bowgun? 😥
iceborne: THIS ONE HERE IS UMP 45 SMG WITH RAPID FIRE PIERCING AMMO ROUNDS. AND THIS BADBOY HERE IS USAS-12 WITH MEDIUM RECOIL AND AUTOMATIC RAPID FIRE SHOTGUN. AND THIS ONE... (the users once again showing the god amount of lbg loadout he made)
Sw_axe:
- base game: Is this a bloodborne weapon?
- iceborne: ITS OVER 9000!!!! **BOOM**. Also, uuuu the Axe is hot look at that.
SnS:
- base game: i am really are the worst wpn in the game huh, hahaha thats fine hahaha yeah its fine hahaha....
- iceborne: PURRRFECTOOOO RUSHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!! (Also where is my goddamn oil capcom? GIVE IT BACK TO US!!!)
But tbh, speaking from experience from using all the wpn (i have 3.320+K hrs in the game) all the wpn have its unique way and charm to it! It really fits and well done by capcom to fullfill the variety of gameplay that MHW:IB provides, so yeah all wpn is pog imo. Just play the way and the wpn u want and enjoy it to the fullest!
Cheers fellow Hunters!
Switch axe was worse then sns in base game imo
The SnS is my least used weapon and I enjoyed watching you use it.
Didn't Gunlance just get confirmed to be the new speedrun meta weapon because of Snowmen+Wyrmstake
Yes, but jealousy is a terrible thing.
I really loved switch axe in Rise, with the counter and the dps morph loop. Going back to MHW it does feel like its missing something.
What armor set are you using? It looks cool. I'm new to this game.
Love the video but as a charge blade main, I’m going to need to know which charge blade he was using
love to see another hit thank you for your content
