    i would LOVE LOVE LOVE if you did a whole series like this! as an american - knowing we have thousands of chemicals that are allowed in our makeup, food, etc that aren’t allowed in most other countries - i’d love to hear what we actually do need to look out for 💙

    Thank you for sharing this information and scientific evidence!! some of us as consumers once fell into the clean beauty trap to only find out is BS and marketing strategies; but learning more about chemistry and skin (at least my case since i’m studying cosmetic science) i fear no chemicals only love them more LOL
    You’re a gem and deserve more public and recognition

      Yeah, anything with an 'allowable amount' is a hard pass from me. If any amount is harmful, I'm not going to to take 'just a little, it's safe that way'. Also pretty foolish to trust a lobbyist funded organization like the FDA. The ruling can be overturned in 10 years and then who's the fool?

    I don't understand why there's so many conflicting views on this. I think I've watched 10 youtubers now and every other one says the opposite. Parabens safe, parabens not safe, parabens safe, not safe. If we all have access and genuinely care about the results of research on the matter, why are we all not on the same page? Doctor Youn has a video titled How to Pick Safe Skin Care - Clean Beauty and mentions avoiding Parabens and he included research papers on the matter, granted the evidence/result wasn't very convincing. Then you have Dr. Yvonne Burkart also stating to avoid parabens, while channels like this, Dr Dray and a couple others are saying to not be alarmed...It doesn't make sense to me. What's the honest consensus?!? Why are these other channels saying the complete opposite??

    Appreciated your explanation a lot! Even my chemistry teacher did not tell me this. I am sick and tired of the natural-wannabe fearmongering against names of chemical compounds they don't know before.

    It is so hard to get rid of the negative connotations of parabens. I´ve worked with them in the lab and then only due to public being scared we switched to other preservatives but had a lot of stability problems. Team parabens here! :D loved the video

      It is impossible. None of my clients that I formulate products for want parabens - which is fine I've learned ways around this but it is unfortunate the fear based bias out there is still going strong.

    Good video! It’s great to actually have some scientific info about it cause honestly I’ve heard so many buzzwords about them being bad it kind of worried me 😂 if it’s safe then I’ll happily keep rubbing them on my face.. I honestly don’t like it when companies scare and reinforce something that isn’t true. I’d rather have them tell us it’s safe to cut the crap instead.

      I agree. I don't like when brands focus on what they DON'T contain rather than what they DO. Focus on the benefits and people should be interested in your product not the fears around other products!!

    As a knowledgeable consumer and chemist myself, how would I be able to make a determination a cosmetic manufacturer (often times a 3rd party or contract manufacturer) is making and properly testing the product to ensure the 0.8% paraben concentration level has not bee exceeded? As far as I'm aware, I do not know of any cosmetics manufacturers that openly share their testing data for the raw material purity or for the finished product batches. Do you know of a way consumers could verify the product they buy has been verified and tested for contaminants and that the listed ingredients are at the restricted, safe-usage levels? It seems like consumers have to blindly trust and assume the brands they buy are safe to use and prepared using high quality standards, when in many instances there is no scientific proof to support this broadly overarching blind assumption.

    Subscribed and liked! I love how you respond ti most if not all if your comments❤ I am a Beauty manager at a large retail chain and the chemical fear mongering is very real. Today I had a lady that returned cerave moistuizer because it contained 1 paraben. She told me it was banned. I assured her it most definitely was not and that it is an excellent product . She was having none of it arguing that health canada cannot be trusted.I just refunded it with a smile and told her to check out the cosmetic ingredient review board.
    I do have a question for you however...what are your thoughts on the ewg?

    • @KennaWhitnell
      @KennaWhitnell  Год назад

      It can be frustrating at times for sure when consumers are consumed by fear mongering and misinformation. I always keep in mind that they think they are doing the best thing for their health and the health of their families. Consumers can't really be blamed it is the perpetuation of misinformation by sources like the EWG, Think Dirty and Yuka. The EWG uses very poor scientific validation and they are not up to date with the regulatory bodies around the world. I don't trust the EWG for science backed information and they are also a big sales / lead platform now with their EWG certified products that they get a portion of sales.. it has turned into a sales strategy to put fear into peoples minds to buy "EWG certified" otherwise it is bad for them. I do not believe this is a good way to educate consumers on product and ingredient efficacy and safety

    This doesn't align with the views and knowledge of Dr. Yvonne Burkart (also here on You Tube), who's a board certified toxicologist. She says parabens are _not_ safe, and she backs up her claims with scientific studies.

    I screwed up my hair when I did the CurlyGirlMethod by not shampooing with sulphates, not using silicone and buying paraben-free. Then I saw a picture of my hair pre-CGM and I went back to what I was doing before.
