    Every 50s tribute SG had the "prototype" stamp. They put that on as an Easter egg, as if they were prototyped before the SG became a thing in 1961. It's a fun little feature, but often results in people asking exorbitant amounts for them because it's misleading. Superb guitars though, I love mine, it's very lively.

    I reckon it would be good if the '61 SG junior played by Gary Moore with Ginger Baker and Jack Bruce ended up in the SG case previously owned by Eric Clapton 😊

    There is something very pleasant in a worn SG
    The neck once its been damaged and repaired just adds to this.
    The junior would have been something very exciting in the 60's
    and the wood has absorbed it all.
    Lovely to hold and lovely to play.
    Ever thought about writing a book Luke?

    I have a 67 narrow neck Gibson and I like the narrow neck. Has a lot of meat behind it so feels nice. Nothing to worry about at all, they play very well (and I have large hands)

    SG Junior is quite a guitar. Ive had a few. I eventually got an SG special and kept with that due to the exact colour and neck profile I like If I use EQ right its exactly like a 61 junior! Such an underrated guitar.

    First time watching! Some very nice guitars in this clip, BUT!! OMG, Gary's TV yellow LP/SG Junior is to die for!! I imagine it will go for big dollars based on providence alone. Oh well, getting to see it was a real treat and dreams of owning it are free 🙂. I do wonder what the reserve will be set at??

      GM guitars of this nature trend to command figures on 20k plus these days. Although it does have a lot of vintage value in its own right. Thanks for watching 🙂👍

    This guitar is currently being looked into as it has been said it was not Garys.

    • @guitarspca5615
      @guitarspca5615 Месяц назад

      As I understand it, this one has provenance directly back to GM, but he apparently had more than one. The other one has a little bit murkier history but probably correct as well.

    • @GHguitarauctions
      @GHguitarauctions  Месяц назад +2

      It was definitely GMs. Faultless provenance. The other probably was also Gary’s, but this is the one featured in the live footage and promo shots 👍🙂 Thanks for watching

    Tried to comment but it looks like it won't let me include links! I've used the Wayback Machine to check Gibson's 2013 website and the 2013 LP is either a 50s Tribute or 60s Tribute. Both came as a satin goldtop with a dark back; the 50s had Klusons, 490R/498T, cream plastics and rounded 50s neck profile, the 60s had Grovers, Burstbucker 1&2, black plastics and a slim taper neck. Given that goldtop's got bits of both, I guess it'll come down to neck profile, but the 57 Classics aren't original, as you suspected.
    You can also find the product page for the 50s Tribute SG and it confirms the "prototype" stamp is a standard feature/easter egg.
    As I said, I did try to share links but RUclips doesn't seem to like it, but it's easy enough to have a look.

      @vitasprout Месяц назад

      The Gold Top could also be a "Future Tribute" which came stock with zebra 57 classics and black plastics. Original dome knobs and robot tuners were probably replaced with Klusons and that's what we're seeing here. The model also has an asymmetrical neck profile and chambered weight relief body that the 50's /60's tributes didn't.

    5:09 that goldtop looks exactly like my 2016 tribute t50s but my pickups are stock 480 r 498t not the classic 57s zebras but you did say they had been upgraded mine are all black and uncovered but the paint and look of the gold is exactly like mine so I think that les paul is a tribute and not a studio i could be wrong

    • @GHguitarauctions
      @GHguitarauctions  Месяц назад +1

      Yes, certainly seems to be a tribute now that we have looked into it further 🙂👍

  • @johnB11ify

    This guitar has a different pickup to the guitar Gary Moore used on the Greeny album. Plus if this was the guitar sold from Bonham's a few years ago the tuning pegs are also different. I have watched the footage on RUclips and it's difficult to see the tuners clearly. I would be interested in the provenance you have for this. Was it a guy from down the pub that knew someone that knew Gary.

    • @GHguitarauctions
      @GHguitarauctions  Месяц назад +1

      This is the “Bonhams” guitar. The original pegs are in the case. We also have the pickup that was installed at the time 🙂👍
