Dave, modder here, Each type of infantry unit is assigned different sub category of "Infantry". Irregular are "category_front_line, category_light_infantry, category_all_infantry, category_army" Bonuses that applies to those sub category will apply to them. The gun tech assigns specific bonuses to sub category such as light infantry while the support weapon assign bonuses to specific units which includes "bicycle_battalion" but not irregular. In regards to unit leader for infantry it assign the bonus "Army" sub category so it includes irregulars, "army_infantry_defence_factor".

theres an operation you can do that provides you with fake units you can use to trick your enemies. the AI see right through it but in MP its kinda cool
British Malaya & Mengkuko also start with only 1 factory. Iceland and the Dutch Indies start with 1 factory and 1 dockyard, Oman & Yemen start off with 1 civ 1 mil while Haiti starts with 2 civs. British Malaya in Road to 56 is decently interesting even though the UK is given Singapore & Brunei.

If a general gains experience to a certain skill that requires certain units ie. infantry (not talking about cav officer and all that) it means that yes irregulars do get affected by the infantry leader buffs since they gave it in the first place to the general.

otherwise, it will default to the faction leader of whoever occupies italian cores, provided the faction leader is at war with italy.
Just accept the lendlease, get into convoy deficit, then modify incoming lend lease and ask for convoys. Problem solved
