This is a rough little short film i've spent the lion's share of my spare time on for roughly a two and a half year period. This project initally started as a series of experiments in 3D modelling (in an attempt to learn it to an at least passable level) and ended up growing into a giant imagined world of hard science fiction and also a bit of a love-letter to the extensive atomic rockets design literature. I think i've managed to secure the basics of 3D (as an artform) pretty firmly under this project, every model has been made by hand with some timelapses even included on this channel. I wanted this project to be like the digital equivilent of making a nice sculpture.
Due to time constraints imposed by some recent academic opportunities I find myself unable to complete this short film across a respectable foreseeable timespan. Whats shown here is ~40% of what was planned for this short.
The animation work done here is rough and lacks any clear story, nevertheless its aesthetic serves as a good insight into something I'd like to carry forward with future work if I ever find the time.
I'll include some brief works about the plans for Traquinniad for all those interested. Traquinniad is an imagined history of the 21st ceuntry in which mankind encounters extreme perils stemming from pursuits of transhumanisim, artificial organism engineering and exploration of psychological spaces above (or adjacent) to the ones we occupy now through AI applications. The essence of Traquinniad is that the lovecraftian is very much technologically realisable, yet humanity still has the capacity to overcome seemingly impossible odds. Despite its planned tone being grim and clinically technically oriented (with a significant focus on factors such as engineering constraints), its an overall hopeful tale.
Some notes on what was planned for this short can be found by enabiling the subtitles.
Thats all for now. - Кино
Beautifully animated!
Thanks Issac thats great to hear!

No... You will not just leave this here and move on. Go back to work, we NEED THIS!!!
In the future this would be a good project to come back to. Current time constraints make this infeasible for the time being. Sometimes you've got to put your hobby aside. Regardless thanks for your support.

normies won't appreciate a franchise with faceless characters - they can't be played by a popular actor on a big screen so they can harp on it for months.
(ofc there are big animated franchises without live actors but the point about faces still stands)
This is one of the coolest things I've genuinely ever seen. Not only did you represent semi-realistic technologies but you also represented futurism real futurism the crazy insane cultural and biological shifts that can occur when we colonize the solar system. The entire time I watched it I was thinking "finally someone actually turned Isaac arthurs civilization spanning predictions into beautiful art." I hope this will one day have 100 million views and if that fails at least 100 billion views in the distant future when it's turned into a museum exhibit near ganymede.
i didn't want to watch video because i didn't understand thumbnail i was looking at, not disappointed that I watched it!

actually fucking unreal amount of high quality work from one person. how do you stay humble in your everyday life when you know that you can do something like this
I just witnessed something magical. Never seen this much detail in everything, each and every thing looks soo stunning. Every frame is a background.
Background? Every frame is a masterpiece
The idea of some sort of Roman spacefaring robotic empire is one of the coolest things I have ever seen. I could just imagine the dialogue and stuff going on... Truly fantastic work! Would love to see more of this obviously vast world!
Hi, i'd like to quickly clarify that these are very much people and not robots. A biomechanical recomposition process (which is undertaken as both an intellectual and spiritual transformation) makes them seem weird and robotic, eventually growing into a shape similiar to the specimen we see at 3:12. These figures are specifically not transhuman (those guys are the villians in this imagined world but we don't get to see them here) but extra-human, in that they use machines to increase their humanity as opposed to rejecting it.
@melanovis
Why have they abandoned their faces?
@@doompoison2365 Well the process is actually a little complicated. I'm not exactly sure how I'd communicate this even with a full 30-minute short but the process we see people undergo here is a psychological unfolding first and foremost (the transformation is unconsciously guided). Essentially they become what they look like in the realm of the uncounsious so in this case the physical face gets replaced by the internal face (which you may not may not have some conscious clue about it doesn't matter) this is why all the people on this journey in this short are different but still have motifs in how they look (outgrowing crowns, lots of eyes etc). As you may imagine this may become quite terrifying if the person undergoing the transformation was poorly internally constituted. If I got the chance i'd love to model one of these villainous characters in the future.
@@melanovis remarkable, is the unconscious realm an actual place or is it metaphorical?
@@doompoison2365 Ah no, its neither, its literal. The human uncounsious is all the extensive processing which goes on behind the scenes in your field of awareness. I imagine a scenario where people can utalise machines to garner a much deeper relationship with this domain (for practical purposes) like an auto-spiritual transformation.
Ah... Classic start of 2001 A Space odyssey... Can't remember how frequently I rewatched it over and over in course of my life
It feels like imperium of man technology if it was hard sci fi and no xenophobia and way less extremist, and instead of an emperor, there’s houses (says the subtitles)
@@RareWubbox1 Hi RareWubbox. This is an interesting perspective. There is very much still an emperor in this imagined world and he's pretty complicated. There was a brief shot later of him planned (as a painting) but this didn't make it in before the project was cut.
@@melanovis Any chance for project to continue perhaps?
also a bit of Alien's Space Jockey influnce with those navigators and engineers seemingly fused into the ship. But to be honest all this reminds me of Quantum Thief books a bit
yooo this is incredible, so ..."alienating" lol
The animation the modeling, almost fractal, all give an image I fatigue to comprehend
Its like you learned modeling and cinema on an other planet
INCREDIBLE
You know Im seeing this while being a bit high and im only saying this because Im simply more immersed, and wow midway trought I had the feeling this could the best depiction of a technology so far away in the future that I simply cannot compprehend what is happening in any part of the film just like a 1400 man would have no clue what the hell is happening in a normal day or moment in a modern cosmopolitan metropolis. So....
Really otherwordly , in every sense of the meaning.
One of my favorite piece of media of all time!
If hr giger was a futurist and from our time. Incredible. A mesmerizing view into a completely different world. Thanks for letting my mind travel!
It feels like i'm back in 2003 and super artistic tech demos are again in fashion. It's only missing "Made possible with UE5" at the end
Adeptus Mechanicus finding and harvesting a new planet from all its gold for their semiconductors.
Even though this is an unfinished rough draft, I can say that your vision for what you want the project to express (from what you wrote in the description) comes through pretty clearly. Extremely impressive that you started this as a project to even learn 3D. I'm excited to see what you can do with this if/when you have the opportunity to come back to it, even if the break is not ideal hopefully you can use the time to reflect and come back to the project later with fresh eyes and enthusiasm.
The many of many pizzas is the greatest hero! Thank you for this design and stylish animation!!!
15:10 i like this theme of a christ like navigator engineer in his throne captains seat on a space ship, and we all just get it, and he also lives in a giant video card
Leage and The Man of Many Pizzas carried hard
I've never seen an aesthetic quite like this, its like form and function combined into one in a wonderfully ornate technological cacophony! also I love all the worldbuilding on display here, Id love to learn more about this world.
3:06 is it just me, or does the character on the far left looks like he has the same pose that Gordon Freeman has in one piece of concept art
this truly reminds me of cells and dna , which is a fascinating resemblance
It feels a bit perverse to see the blue danube played in such a foreign setting, Bravo!
This was beautiful. Had no idea what to expect when clicking on the video so it really blew me away. This amazing art style that takes elements of gothic, classic and futuristic space vessels and blends them all together as if they were never separate in the first place. Incredible art direction!
This is absolutely incredible, I really hope you pursue this at some point in the future. Everything from the character + environmental designs to the cinematography left me in a state of wonder and fascination through it's entirety.
It was perfect. So perfect I don't have the words to pin to the emotions I get from watching this.
Words simply fail to describe how magnificent this is. I can’t believe it. This is one of the most visually striking and richly detailed settings I’ve ever seen and I know nothing about it. There is such depth of craft and creativity here. It’s astounding to me that this is just on RUclips, free, unfinished. I am astounded.
The amount of effort to create this immensely detailed work seems nigh-infeasible, but you've gone and done it anyway. Incredible.
Stumbled upon your art station last year, as a newbie starting out on blender seeing your work makes me wonder how much dedication you must have put into your work to achieve such altitude, and I’m aspired by you a lot. Thank you for this magnificent art piece👍🏼👍🏼
Daammmmn! Your sense of mechanical/environment design and lighting is just impeccable - these are some of the coolest renders of hard scifi ships I've ever seen, I love the attention to meaningful details like radiators, reaction mass tanks, debris shields, even the Project Orion style nuclear propulsion at the beginning. And there's some real rigour in making the space shots feel like space, with fully black shadows and a really believable sense of scale. The love of the subject really shines through. I hope there will come a time that you'll be able to work more on this passion project, because you've got some magic here. The combination of Cathedral-like imagery with space technology is really strong.
If there's one area I'd call attention to work on, it's character animation and editing. The characters could use a stronger sense of weight in their movements - look into secondary motion, overlapping action, where the centre of mass is and so on. I'm fascinated by these greebled up cyborgs, and I think with a few more passes on animation, they could feel as fantastic as the environments they inhabit. And my favourite character designs here are the ones that depart from the human bauplan, and I'd love to see more in that vein! If this is a transhumanist future, I'd love to see what humans become when they're no longer tied to one shape.
Taking the film overall, I respect the homages to 2001, and I totally get that it's unfinished, but the narrative progression is definitely a little unclear. I think we make several dramatic jumps into the future, but it can be hard to tell just looking at another cool spaceship what era we're looking at and who these characters are. You mention in the description/subs that you were reluctant to put a lot of the information onscreen, but I think the turns of phrase are easily cool enough that with appropriate typography they could absolutely be shown onscreen as part of the film. Still, it's totally fine if the aim is just to have a montage and set some vibes tho! The visuals are more than strong enough to be enthralling regardless.
Still, the fact that you've been able to pull off all these shots yourself in just two and a half years is absolutely extraordinary. I hope I can follow in your footsteps.
i weep with joy upon witnessing the dance of angels
I really do love the choice of music here, really adds to the optimism of the story, I think. Man is imprisoned no more!
omg ,the modeling is insane. Divine work
A project Orion spaceship with 40k-ish structure? I love it!
This Was Amazing. I need this to be fully fleshed out! The world you’ve built already has so much character. The opulence is breathtaking, I’d love to see what stories these characters may tell! This is what the Mechanicus from 40K thinks they are.
It's like seeing practical effects, like watching 2001: A Space Odyssey and still being impressed by its visuals.
The entire color pallette, cinematography, unique modeling... oh my WORD. This is what a short film SHOULD BE. Fantastic work. Also great music choices :P
Ok yeah the sheer DETAIL of everything caught me completely off guard here. Absolutely stunning work
Just the moddeling must have taken a very long time. Super cool
Holy moly this was absolutely stunning I kept just staring at the visuals in awe, You've created something amazing!
You should definitely tell us more about history of this fictionary world
3 AM. This is weird. I'm not sure what I'm looking at. I've never seen anything like this and I doubt I ever will. I am half convinced that after I go to sleep and wake up tomorrow this will be forever gone from reality like many of fever dreams I've had.
Kudos! Liked and subbed, waiting for more!
This is straight up beautiful and will stay so for generations
It was probably the music but i wonder what would Kubrick would of thing of this...
I love it, specially how the design started with very nasa based and then we got some really fancy looking space arquitecture, a great mix between practical funtion and artistry.
Hopefully you one day are able to finish it, but even in this state is a treat to admire.
It's like some technological, DMT dream, hyper future, showcase, and I love it!
The design of this universe is stunning. Some work is needed when it comes to the humanoid characters and their animation but your design skills are genuinely extraordinary, this doesn't look like Warframe or any similar sci fi works of fiction I've seen, it's truly unique. Good job.
amazing, when i saw isaac's name i knew why this was so on point, i love the futurist stuf being realistic and still being so outlandish that it apears magical, we need more stuff like this.
This is one of the most beautiful pieces of animation I've ever seen in my life. I am saddened we won't get to see more of it I can see it becoming a big thing in the future. Have you considered releasing the behind the scenes process?
This is an absolutely incredible work of art, its like a time capsule sent back in time from the future, I love it.
This is truly one of the greatest achievements humanity has made. Incredible.
PLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEASE this was so beautiful and way better than anything else I've seen so far. You really did make art so, please continue this asap I would pay to see more of this!
the sense of scale in the interiors is really cool. sometimes I can't tell if the room is huge or like the size of an shuttle pod until the camera switches angles! hope you find some more time for this world in the future!
Breathtaking! I'm not sure what's happening, but it's incredible!
Please, finish this project! Looks promising! 😭🙏🏻
Marvelous. I especially liked the intricate, over engineered interiors combined with Roman / Renaissance (do I get that right?) inspired robot statues that give it that space cathedral aestetics, but bright and clean. Not exactly opposite, but rather silver and gold mirror image to the more common dark look of WH 40k space cathedrals.
There is so much beauty even when it is unfinished. Maybe some day we will se it complete. Shining with beauty compareable to the Jewel of Mankind. Watching over Holy Earth, Luna itself.
Until then... I will be waiting in the darkness, to be again bathed in the mirrored and pale light of Sol. And be trully "Vir incarceratus non plus".
This is a testament to the stretches of human creation, and I am beyond honored that you shared this. Thank you endlessly for not keeping this hidden despite it not being finished; this was an absolute treat to the eye, the mind, and the soul. Would you ever consider opening a space where one might be able to ask questions about the lore of all of this?
Hope this gets the number of views it deserves. This is art
I feel like I'm watching a nature documentary. The absolutely wild futurism-bordering-fantasy is making an amazing world that I'd love to learn more about, if just for the creativity of it all. I can't imagine how long this took to model and render, kudos to you!

Ok so I never comment on anything ever but how could i not this time? I do 3D modeling myself and im just speechless honestly. Every shot of your short film looks absolutely stunning and i can imagine how much of your time you spent and how much love you poured into your work. I´ll keep following your journey and i hope you find the time to make something even more exceptional. You´re awesome
Thanks! This is a very kind thing to say.
I did not finish all of it but it was exquisite
and keep your ideas and notes and such it could come alive in the future.
I remember learning that Venture Brothers was supposed to be a comic then a film then actually launched as a cartoon...
Keep creating
Whew! Have to admit. Kind of intense. gorgeous world building certainly! chillingly clean and a little horrifying. no dust, no dirt, no grime... no graffiti and yet... some advertising. I struggled to see where I'd fit in, in that world. I wouldn't fare well. I'm guessing no peanut butter and jelly anywhere to be found.
Dude, this is one of the greatest things I’ve ever seen. The whole thing is beautiful and the designs are incredible but the only thing that doesn’t sit right with me is some of the animations. Especially the ones with the almost instantaneous machine movements and some of the character animations. This is a very beautiful thing that you have made and I think that I and everyone else wants to see it completed. Keep up the great work!
this is some really tasteful science fiction, not the same ol blue coloured bullshit! This has so much complexity, opulence, luxury, class and art. The owners of that ship must be so so sooo wealthy and tasteful to have a ship like that. And also classical music choice fits so well!
This is amazing! I would love to see more on this wow
Very interesting, that beginning has completely distracted my thoughts with Bradbury-esque thoughts about interplanetary milkmen, postmen, tv repairmen and planet-to-planet vaccuum sellers.

What an amazing little universe you created. The detail is outstanding it finally hit me when I saw the hand movement of the robot man flipping the card thing. Well done.

Actually fucking wild, hope you find a way to keep running with this. You've got something spectacular here and we want to see your project come to fruition, best of luck in your creative pursuits.
Man This is a masterpiece!! We all want a part 2!
I love how intracit and detailed everything is.
I will freely admit i have about three clues about what i just watched and none of them are good.
BUT HOLY GUACAMOLE! This looks amazing
I love the reference to hellenistic statues, and I also love that you didn't use the color blue. I also loved the individual robot/mechanical organism designs. Blue is used a lot in sci-fi already. My only critique is that some of the machinery was so detailed that it became a lot to process visually. Great work. I hope that you can finish it one day.
Definitely cool. The esthetics are enough to justify the effort. Truly a work of non conventional art. Thank you!
This is wonderful I love unfinished art works… it makes you think of all the possibilities 😌
What a lovely universe you've brought to life
this is a brilliancy of imagination, well done!!!
I've been following your work on Artstation since I ran across the helium drinker model a year ago. Huge fan of the aesthetic, maybe a little high on the intricate detail side for my brain to fully process but I'm all for it. As a fellow hard surface modeler who's been on and off with the consistency of my work, I have to say I love the commitment and dedication put into this project and the passion. I too have had to let many projects settle in the dust due to education-related time constraints and I totally know the feeling. Theo Bouvier also happens to be one of many of my inspirations too. Love the project, little sad to see it end. Hope your education takes you further and higher to be able to pursue more projects like this in the future.
I have not seen anything as splendid as this. I order you to finish what you have started.
Incredible concepts, and beautifully executed!
As a standalone and for what it is, this is fantastic work. I am itching to see this fully realized, amazing work! Also congrats on putting this all together, you have a really solid style with all of this, and have clearly thought through and incorporated a lot of neat hard-scifi ideas into something quite unique.
Hoping to see more of this in the future when you have time or additional support!
the modelling is just beautiful.
I found myself quietly whispering “holy shit” every 8 seconds or so 😂

Blender??? I failed to make a donut😭, meanwhile bro(or a team of bros and sisters) MADE THIS. INSANE LEVEL OF SKILL
You have my respect and my sub. I hope you will make it to the STARS🌟
ever since i played ECHO, I've had an itch for the baroque trans-human aesthetic that blurs the line between flesh and machine. This scratched it beautifully and I really wish there was more of this bizarre, near/far future, creative, vaguely unsettling, yet somehow relatable content. The notes just make it so much more engrossing.
Bro this looks amazing and perfect music choice
i am enthralled with this i truly hope to see more
I can absoluetly see the love and passion in this short film. Every single scene and model has so much detail put into it especially for an unfinished project. Hopefully you do find some spare time.
This is excellent, I can definitely recognize another Winchell Chung reader from 30 million kilometers. And I'm guessing you've browsed a lot of Orion's Arm as well. Shame it can't be completed but it's an insanely ambitious undertaking to even get this far as a lone artist, inspiring.. I recommend people watch it with the subtitle notes turned off at first, to take in the splendor and strangeness of it without getting too bogged down in terminology and backstory... That must be allowed to flower later, as the viewer's obsessive curiosity is stimulated.
Atomic rockets is just a great resource first and foremost. But I haven't touched orion's arm simply for a lack of time, the time required to a good sample of it given its scale is just a bit intimidating.
Mesmerizing 😍
The modeling work on this is truly beyond exquisit. Your combination of mechanical yet smooth movement gives your machines this feeling of biology yet the perfection in its movement reminds the viewer of its artificiality. It is truly beautiful.
My 2 critiques are character animation and framing. When you introduce humanoid characters into a scene you instantly make your job more difficult because everyone knows how a human body moves. At the moment the momentum and rigging seem to need just a bit of work. Then the camera placement in many scenes left me confused as to the scene's scale. This film utilizes extreme scale at times in a way that I find really impactful. Though as it progresses I feel like I loose frame of reference especially with the varying size of the characters. If the depth of field were tweaked occaisionally and the camera work were reimagined with a specific size camera operator in mind I think continuity of scale would be a lot easier.
At the level you are working at you could get a job modelmaking for a decent vfx house in a heartbeat. As a hobbyist worldbuilder myself you've made real an aesthetic adjecent to one I've been fantasizing about for well over 2 years. Your project has truly inspired me to return to building my own technolovecraftian society. This is truly an excellent film and I cannot wait for you to have the opportinity to continue creating.
Also love the pulsed nuclear propulsion.
This is such a beautiful sculpture
This is awesome.
Dude the deets and shots on this one are insane! Love to have seen the process throughout the past few months. You ought to finish this one when you can :D
It'll be great to watch this in 61 years and see how close it is.
