This project took me a week to build. I visited two fish hatcheries to stock the pond.
Bull head minnows, Japanese koi, catfish, copper nose brim, and A1 Florida strand Bass.
I just completed a follow up video. I should be finished editing around 2022 thanks and don’t forget to subscribe.S.P.O🏴☠️🏴
Were waiting
Casually brushes off a brown recluse...didn't skip a beat. Love it.
Wasn't a brown recluse...
Can't wait to see the finished product
You need more pond up Daits
Make sure you float your fish in the bag for at least a half an hour so that they can get used to the temperature of the lake and won't catch a disease called ick , could because it will kill them and it comes from the fish not being acclimated to the temperature of the lake and they get something like a bad cold that will kill your fish
Hopefully one day I can be a baller and buy my own farm house land and do my own stuff like this. Awesome brother.
I’m no Baller. Thanks I wish I was. The farmlands been in my family for over 200 years.🏴🏴☠️🏴
Thanks man I wish I was a Baller. The farmlands been in my family for over 200 years.
Man that looks like fun. I’m in the process of building a pond on my property here in Alabama. We’ve been clearing the land of trees and brush. My neighbor has a dozer and excavator. He will help me dig it either next month or January. Hopefully we can have it dug before the spring. I am very nervous about it. I think it’ll work out.
Did it work

You really have an interesting life. Do you realize that?
Digging my 1/4 acre pond now. Love these vids
Our Florida strains in SoCal are so big for two reasons, the climate and the stocked trout. They feed endlessly on them. All our reservoirs are stocked with trout heavily in the summer. I have no doubt you'll pull some hogs out of there.
Nice southern pirate,... I'm going to be doing a lake or pond... Between 3 and 5 acres big depending on how big they tell me I can do it without compromising the property... I have a soil scientist coming out to make sure I can actually put one in my area... So far it looks like it's going to be okay but after the soil scientist gets there I'll know for sure... plus I'll know the cost. Nice job on your little pond it doesn't take a lot of water to produce a lot of fish... Although on my project I'm seeking to create a bassmaster's Haven for trophy fish.. I will also be doing a documentary and filming on it... Since I'm an old man I will have my grandchildren posted for me hahaha.. I hope you continue to catch wonderful catfish... I will keep the world posted along with you buddy
Man that be nice to have a big lake. Thanks for your Comment
Whats your channel called?
Please make more videos like this. Im black but i relate to you bro. Thanks bro
Wow, your all set! Always gonna have food and water for the family 😸
That is a wise comment and very true!
Tuff as hell he kill A poisonous spider with his bare hands💪🏾
Awesome video man! Hell yeah
he has a spit cup bottle. love it
There was a little bitty pond across the street and it would dry up a bunch of times a year. Every time we got rain u could walk across to it and the catfish would b going crazy
That was so bada$$ knowledge filled that I'm hooked.
Just found your channel. Will be interesting to see how your pond develops.
That is cool brother. Love your passion for all things outdoors.
thanks man
Your catfish were thriving until you messed with them and killed em all lol
Thanks bro .myour information...I like and suport your chanel..ist very informative...👌👌
" ... I can plow a field all day long - I can catch catfish from dusk till dawn ... " Hell I Reckon THIS Country Boy Makes His Own Pond TOO !
Good Old Hank.. God I’ve done it all. I guess that’s part of being a country boy. The old farms been in our family for over 200 years. I wouldn’t have it any other way.
Very informative! I would love to see the pond after completion.
I’ll make another video of pulling some big bass out
You need to regularly clean the lake from bottom sediments. This can be done with a dirty water motor pump and a Bagermaster suction nozzle. The fish will thank you
In regards to our comment about the fertilizer killing your fish after the rain...Don't trim the grass right to the water's edge. Leave a buffer zone around it to reduce runoff.
Great video Thomas Hayden Chruch!!!!!!!!
Combo of church and Brett favre
Great pond and video! Gonna be stocking mine just like you did soon..
Florida F-1
Amazing video. Good work man!
i relay love your vidjas just found your channel and subscribed
Sweet pond bro!
Throw a salt block in it? Can you let me know what that does?
Very cool 😎I'm jealous
Bad ass video. Bless ya
just when you think the pond is dead the cat fish had survived.
Any update on this?
Man dope video 🤙🏾
Ok so in the future I’m wanting to have my own pond with catfish so me and my gma can fish and cook it. Is that do-able with a man made pond and putting catfish in it? Im trying to research and watch as much helpful videos as I can.
Awesome video bro
He'll ya bro u stocked it up now it's time to go fish it out lmao
Great job man, awesome video!
THANKS
I just subscribed and I thank you for this great video!! Do you happen to have one that explains how to start by digging a pond?? I'll go look on your channel but I have 5 and a 1/2 acres roughly in Oregon on top of a mountain a mountain and I need a food source That is reliable enough enough to feed my cat's dogs and my family family. Sorry for any duplicated words here my my smartphone is not that Smart!
But thank you this is really cool I would actually appreciate finding anything that tells me how long the whole thing takes. I understand the digging process I am thinking about laying fabric along the bottom and then putting pebbles sand and rocks at the bottom. In addition I need to know what kind of fish to put in to start and what what time I have to wait before putting in bass before putting in bass and trout
The reason I have for wanting to put the fabric down is because I would also like to be able to swim in this pond pond and don't want so much dirt clouding up the water.
Lastly I plan on using a lot of water plants water plants and water grasses in order to help filter filter the water that's going into the pond during the rain as well as to have another food source
Again thank you for the video and I have subscribed and will recommend to my friends
I just cleaned the refrigerator had a bucket of food for the fish! We have a 16ft above ground pool that I'm going to turn into a golden shiner pond. Every two to three years I'm going to release it into the 1-acre pond. My biggest sunfish ever was from this little pond 13 inches along he was a fatty!
Yessir 🤘
Nice video keep it comming
Thanks 🏴🏴☠️🏴
man this is cool AF.... digging your channel brother.. awesome pond. where is this? Alabama?
Whats your PB Bass in Fl , and roughly where about ?
How was Discovery Island…..? 🏝️
Can I slap that??
What are the dimensions of your nice pond? I wanted to make a small fishable pond.and would like to know what dimensions this on is ? Thanks , great vid!
All right, so I’m looking at moving back south, back home. Hopefully the next few years and I have my eye on a few hundred acres. I got the Cumberland River on one side of me and way too much green on the other, not enough water. So I’m definitely gonna need to have a place to put what I catch from the Cumberland River. My question is this though. With these man-made fish ponds, is there any winter care that Hass to be taken.?
Survival of the fittest. For the most part I haven’t had to do much. I have a deer feeder beside the pond that goes off once a day for the Bluegill and Catfish. Thanks again for your comment!
Hey man I’ve got a pond that’s got a lot of water turkeys, gar, and it’s really shallow. There is a good bit of bass and bait fish but not much. What do you recommend stocking wise?
can we get an update on the fish in the pond and what its looking like ???
I just bought a house with 8 acres and the pond on it was stocked with baitfish and bass, the pond is about a tenth of an acre but what would be the best way to expand it and add more fish to it. It has approximately 30 bass and 100-150 baitfish
Man sounds like you got a nice spot. acreage is the best way to go! I just have to look at it every jobs a little different.
No way you caught a 30 pound blue out of your pond
Wait you stocked the pond then dug it out ?
I just bought some land with a pond. It's about 90' X250' and 12' deep in certain areas. It has bass, catfish and perch but I haven't caught anything over 9". It was abandoned for 2 years. Any tips on getting bigger fish? There are 4 carp in there about 2 1/2' long! I want bigger bass and catfish.
Food ,fertilization ,freshwater = Big fish.🏴☠️🏴
You need to take every small bass you catch out and have a fish fry. I kept over 200 per year out of my 7 acre pond and it went from most bass being 10 to 12 inches to most bass being 14 to 16 inches in about 3 years.
Stock it up with some bluegill and shiners too.. bass love em
if they arent growing you may need to take them out and get better genetics as well. genes are very important. catch some big bass somewhere else and transport them to your pond is what a lot of my buddies do for their ponds
@@65stang98 Thanks for the advice.
Love the video. ( 16:18 ) But in 3 years those bass will not be 8lbs. It takes much longer than that brotha!
You will really be surprised with proper management and food. They don’t get that big in three years eating just minnows. You have to constantly restart with fingerling Bluegill a few times a year. I just put up an otter fence around the pond. Constantly pumping fresh well water. This helps the ecosystem. It’s a good idea to throw sacks of crawfish in every year as well. I’m talking a couple hundred pounds. The crawfish reproduce good on their own but every year I add more. Florida Bass grow fast. They eat everything and constantly grow. More food, the faster they grow. Compared with traditional largemouth bass. Believe it or not, it even has a lot to do with the soil the pond was dug in. I’ve been putting ponds in for people for a living for over 30 years. We build ponds and lakes, even build cement goldfish ponds. Ponds with 45 mm pond liner. To grow trophy bass you have to work the land, put money in the water and a lot of work. Not just dig a hole big or small and think mother nature is going to do it because she’s not. 🏴🏴☠️🏴
@@SouthernPirateOutdoors Respect I can believe it. Fast trackin them bass
They way you are feeding them, you better be a good fisherman brotha.. It’s going to make them difficult to catch.. Awesome vid though bud.. Thx for your time
Is your pond filled by your well only or anything other water source?
Generally rain keeps it full. in times of need the check valve will activate The well to bring water level up to the designated spot.
@@SouthernPirateOutdoors what size hp pump is it? How many GPM?
I mean I love California 2 death... BUT it would be awesome to have a dang pond or 2 to stock with catfish and bluegills or large mouth bass.. by the way could you asked for only the white catfish bcuz it would be sick to have a pond with just white cats
In nature anything white generally doesn’t survive. It not a very good camouflage unless you’re a polar bear. I guess they would be cool in an aquarium.
Is it illegal to build one in california?
How big was the catfish pond b4 u increases it looked pretty small on camera
about 40' wide by 80' long. Water about 4 foot deep⁹.
@@SouthernPirateOutdoors and that was big enough to fish on? And hold some big cats?
Yes, was just a small cow pond. .but always seem to have plenty of catfish .We fish and catch catfish in the summer as a kid. And my grandmother would fry them.
I've caught some of my biggest fish out of the smallest of ponds in my lifetime. Even in ponds that "didn't have fish" in them.
What does the salt block do for the pond?
That’s just something i’ve done for years. Keeps the pH perfect.
How big is that little pond?
Almost half an acre
Another reason not to use synthetic fertilizers. And another reason to only use organic fertilizers!
Too much of any fertilizer is bad even organic
@@SouthernPirateOutdoors Whatever we put down on grass that is sloping down to the pond will end up in the pond. High nitrogen chemical fertilizers will cause algae blooms in ponds, lakes, rivers, and oceans. The algae uses all the oxygen in the water and suffocates the fish. Organic fertilizers don't do that.
Seems like a lot of fish for that size of pond.
alot will not make it. same idea fish do they lay way more eggs cuz only like 10% survive due to ya know nature.
@@Madara2B 👍well said
Koi is more like common carp and not any good at all if you want a carp that eat the vegetation, anything else than grass carp is just waste of money, time and hope to have less vegetation in the pond.
do summ do it right ... didn't acclimate any of the other fish haha
lol ..Good observation. The other fish are just food for the bass..
Do you know of anyone who digs ponds in South Alabama?
I’ve put lakes and ponds in my whole life. what size are you talking about?
About 1 acre. Contact me at Baldwinbell@yahoo.com.
Have you tried to raise salmon?
I’m too far south
How much you pay for a size lake like that
That pond is way to tiny for catfish
I was thinking that too. Big enough for catfish with extensive management, but I always thought you needed at least an acre of surface size for a decent bass pond. I'm hoping I'm proven wrong.
The pond does have a nice shape to it too.
I would’ve loved to made it bigger, but couldn’t spare any more of my land. But with proper management and monitoring My water levels, I’ve grown some big bass, Bluegill and Catfish.
@@SouthernPirateOutdoors Outstanding, I'll keep watching and learning. Thank you very much, love your videos
Where you at
wish my soil would hold water. Mostly sand here where i am.
I’ve had that problem before on a few jobs.
The only thing I disagree in this whole video is putting them goldfish in the pond. They shit more than they eat 😂
