      Nerdist Not to be sexist or anything but what about hip ratio and weight to power, plus logan has a 100 pound increased weight due to the adamantine skeleton that x23 doesn't have.

    *"Kyle is wrong!" FAQ*
    1. Yes, getting cut with three blades instead of two would be a worse wound, and would be deadlier. My video is about the cutting power. Given a strong enough material, X-23's two claws could cut deeper than Wolverine's three (also applies to stabbing). It's a boundary case for sure, but that's comic book physics for you.
    2. Yes Wolverine is more muscled than X-23, but I assumed equal strength because the are clones, and making a bunch of assumptions about the strength of the sexes would have been impossible.
    3. X-23's whole skeleton *isn't* covered. Then she wouldn't be able to grow!
    4. I didn't factor in body weights in my strength estimate because we have no idea how X-23's strength relates to her size. In LOGAN she's a child and throws men around like nothing. Also, Wolverine may be heavier, but impact force includes the change in velocity over time in addition to mass. You could just as easily make the argument that X-23 is much faster than Wolverine, and therefore can impart the same forces despite being less massive. Science!

      Nerdist Kyle is WRONG, the claws weight much more than u think, which adds more momentum and more sher power. 3 claws should be much more powerful than 2, since the 3 blades weight much more than you think! You failed this time!

      Nerdist - Would I be correct in saying that 2 blades generate more cutting force but also put more strain on the wrist and arms than 3 blades? (Not that it matters to wolverine but just curious)

      Nerdist About number two, no it would have been simple. Instead of assuming a male heavyweight boxer, you would substitute a female high level boxer, then compare the total of the two and reduce by that factor.

    • @RayceJacobson
      @RayceJacobson 7 лет назад +8

      as far as I know, men and women have the same lower body strength pound for pound. that would make her foot claws better than Logan's single claw move, and it would make her two hand claws about the same as Logan's three hand claws (lack of upper body strength would probably be compensated by superior cutting pressure).

    • @Mj783980
      @Mj783980 7 лет назад +9

      In response to your number 2. and 3.
      2.
      Strength may not even be the most important factor here, but even if it was the assumption of no difference in strength is just as detrimental to your analysis as an askew assumption in favor of male strength.
      3.
      The fact that you realize that X-23 has less skeletal mass 1. because she has less bone mass, hence two claws rather than three, 2. because her entire skeleton isn't coated as Logan's is, makes it clear that you understand that in a swing from each respective character that the momentum they'll have is different. And the momentum is what determines the striking force

    Nerdist, my question would be, weight and force. Logan has a full skeleton covered by adamantium, and X-23 only has the claws. Yes genetically they are identical minus a Y chromosome, but the weight behind both will be significantly different. X-23 fully grown should not be more than 120-150 lbs, while i read somewhere that Wolvi was around 350 due to the weight of the adimantium. I would agree with you that she would do more immediate damage, but Wolvi "Logan" would have more raw power in his strikes with full momentum.

    • @romxxii
      @romxxii 7 лет назад +33

      The comic book Logan was 5'3" weighed 300 lbs with the adamantium, and 195 without. Hugh Jackman is 6'2", and fully jacked-up for the role looks to be somewhere in the ballpark of 220 lbs. So add the 105 lbs of adamantium to Hugh's filming weight, and you'd probably have no more than 330 lbs of metallized Australian.

    • @somekid3893
      @somekid3893 7 лет назад +17

      it's not 105lb for the adamantium; you're putting it on a guy who's eleven inches taller. Take your 105lb amount and multiply it by the percentage height more, and you're wayy more likely to find yourself in the correct ballpark, though still not nearly accurate. Your equation goes like this to start: 63/74 = 105/x, which yields x = 123 and 1/3, so at movie-Logan's height, you've got something like 123.3 lb of adamantium on something like a 220lb man, making him about 343 lb all told, maybe closer to 350 if we're taking into account width or girth of bones also increasing and requiring more adamantium

  • @staindwing
    @staindwing 7 лет назад +61

    If her skeleton isn't fully coated, then Wolverine wins this game by default, because he(or anybody with reasonably sharp weapons) could just sever her limbs and leave her entirely clawless. I realize the argument presented in the video is based on cutting pressure and PSI and all that jazz, but the titular premise was that her claws are deadlier....and nope.

    • @staindwing
      @staindwing 7 лет назад +2

      Also, I'd think in terms of how deadly one's claws are, rather than sharpness(which when compared between the two is effectively a wash...considering the level of 'overkill' in either case), a more determinant factor would be the simple fact that 3 claws(or 6 if he were using both hands) cause three(or 6) separate wounds...while two claws(or 4) only cause two(or 4) wounds. X-23 can only inflict 2/3's of the wounds at once, that Wolverine can, which makes her immediately, and significantly, less deadly than him.

    • @alexjessop8777
      @alexjessop8777 7 лет назад +1

    • @Ali-bd6kb
      @Ali-bd6kb 7 лет назад +1

      staindwing you're totally wrong since wolverine is fully coated he keeps getting poisoned which hinders his healing factor exponentially and wolverine and x-23 both have special adamantium that bonded with their body somehow which allows them to regenerate it when they regen lost limbs plus wolverine wasn't trained to become the worlds deadliest assassin so his combat skills are far inferior however he is more experienced than her in a battle x23 would probably win however that's just my opinion and we'll never have an answer until wolverine is revived in the comics and then they can both fight and give us the answer

    • @staindwing
      @staindwing 7 лет назад +4

      He has a full skeletal coating, which means his limbs are virtually impossible to sever from his body. Her skeleton doesn't have the same luxury, as she only has partial coating. If her claws get severed, she could regrow the limb, and the bone claws, but the adamantium coating doesn't come back with them, and thus they are significantly less deadly.

  • @MichaelGaryScott90

    Not to nitpick Kyle, but Logan is capable of choosing whether of not he uses all adamantium claws or not, ex. the time he flipped off Scott with only one claw. If he opted to use only one claw, then that one claw would take 100% of the .... oh crap ...

      Josh Reznicek whilst were talking about adimantium i saw the film yesterday and the adimantium bullet can pierce adimantium? but thats not heated and also it goes through a full adimantium skull which is very dense compared to a small bullet can u anwser how please?

    • @christopherwills6976
      @christopherwills6976 7 лет назад +7

      actually, the bullet could be denser depending on calibre and how much adamantium was bonded to his skull. the dense adamantium bullet did have far greater velocity and thus had a high amount of kinetic energy also you could argue that the bullet was slightly heated as well so thats how the bullet pierced the skull greater velocity and momentum plus slightly heated

    • @scottbaldwin4454
      @scottbaldwin4454 7 лет назад +1

      Christopher wills Well good point on the head cos it never says if it was full with adimantium so unless it says somewhere in media its full or not we cant really tell and from the look of the bullet it seemed like full metal jacket coming from a magnum which is high power and velocity and eith the heat the sword from the wolverine (silver samurai) im not 100% but im sure it mentioned somewhere over 2000 degrees to cut adimantium
      EDIT: Google says 1500 degrees required
      so how hot does a bullet get?

  • @Archimagus
    @Archimagus 7 лет назад +145

    So there's all the comments about The Mass of Logan being more, giving him more force, which Is true. But there is another part to look at. If either one can already cut through anything, wouldn't 3 claws end up doing more damage than two, making the 3 claw setup more deadly?

    • @DarkOkie
      @DarkOkie 7 лет назад

      no in theory the applied force to cut is Spread evenly over the surface being cut therefor the more blades used the more force needed to apply the same cut (Say the cut force is 12 -X23 would cut 6 deep but Wolverine would only cut 4 deep) Yes the Surface "rake" damage is more but does less cutting / deep damage
      - Does that make Sense ?

    • @Archimagus
      @Archimagus 7 лет назад +19

      I get what he's getting at. But my point is, if they can both burry their claws to the knuckles. 3 25cm deep gashes is more damage than 2 25cm gashes. who cares if it takes less force for the two blades to do that damage. Im saying that the pressure per blade only makes a difference if it's enough to make one able to cut deeper or further than the other. But since it doesn't seem that there is any material in the marvel universe where that difference is made... force per blade seems to be a moot point. So it comes down to how much cutting is happening.

    • @DarkOkie
      @DarkOkie 7 лет назад +1

      Even real life folded blades that can cut through most things need to be Wielded correctly or be useless!
      So if you wanna look at it in a gaming point of view: with a Energy cap of 120 (so numbers are not too high)
      Wolverines attack deals 30 damage at 30 energy (4 strikes dealing 120 damage)
      X23 attacks deal 20 damage at 15 energy ( 8 strikes dealing 160 damage)
      This is not including her leg strikes and even as a Puncture strike they still have the same resistance,
      Wolverine has found metals he cant cut / struggles to cut through and just cause they are Adamantium does not mean they can cut through all material effortlessly just that is CAN cut through them as in if enough force is applied Adamantium we cut it! **They even explained in the comic he expends twice as much energy as her when fighting unless she soes into her "frenzy mode"**

    • @mechasentai
      @mechasentai 7 лет назад +11

      Archimagus
      lol these arguments are interesting but people are missing the point. She has more cutting power he has more mass but they are both genetically stronger than any human. That's the main point. They could just kills you in a heartbeat. Plus if you think about it any thug with a "legal" 4 inch blade can fook you up. Sure there are differences but ultimately you wouldn't want to mess with either. Plus crazy me I think the point of this video is actually to show how the displacement of force and cutting force affect things. But you know, that's just silly me.

      Technically yes logan has more muscle definition on him and likely has much more upper body strength than x-23 because of his training versus x-23s x-23 was raised to be an assassin she was trained in a very brutal manner but her training was more focused on her entire body so technically upper body strength would likely be under-equal however her legs would be stronger than logans. Logans training depending on timeline usually is more derived from soldiers training mostly ww2 depending on storyline anyways. Logan has more emphasis on his upper body and fights in a berserker manner however this doesnt mean he has the edge on x-23 because of one single factor x-23 unless enacted by her trigger is better than logan at keeping her cool in a fight logan tends to get angry and let loose fighting wildly with less precision but laura (x-23) tends to stay calmer as a result of being raised to be a assassin she knows weak points has studied human anatomy and so she is more lethal and less easily beat than logan because of this. Also the hubris of her foes thinking she is weaker because of her two arm claws gains her the advantage with her foot claws which tend to surprise enemies.

      actually i always thought that his regeneration took care of that, but then again his regeneration seems a lot less scientific and a lot more magical in how it's handled in the comics. I saw him regenerate from nothing but a skeleton which doesn't seem possible so...

    • @kyriss12
      @kyriss12 7 лет назад +4

      chinangel
      his regeneration also tends to change depending on plot convenience, and writer preference. You pointed out the regenerating from a skeleton thing, but in the days of future past timeline that same injury was fatal, and in old man Logan simply laying his head down on the train tracks was enough to over tax his healing factor for years. Like wise sometimes he can regrow severed limbs, but in Age of Apocalypse time line once he had his hand chopped off it never regenerated.
      So far wolverine only consistent weaknesses were Carbadium which will stop his healing as long as he remains in contact with it, and the cursed Muramasa blade which is impossible to heal, and even a small wound could eventually ill him if he doesn't carve off the damaged area.

    • @WanderingRogue1
      @WanderingRogue1 7 лет назад +1

      chinangel I remember seeing a video, by comics explained I think that stated his regenerative powers varied in different stories. And his power was described as not being Immortality but more like survival, which is why his body could bond and function with the adamantine. I could be wrong about this though.

Since X-23 bones are covered in adamantium, wouldn't that stunt her growth since she's barely a teenage (13yrs old approx) And then wouldn't she she be in constant excruciating pain since her still growing bones would be slowly crushed by the adamantium that's housing her bones? For everyone saying that X-23 is "not a clone" due to her being a girl please do some more research on genetics. Although not cannon, they could have made X-23 with only one sex chromosome. X0, also known as turners syndrome, is not that uncommon. She would still be genetically identical in every way to Logan, as in a normal female one of the 2 X chromosomes is randomly inactivated. The "default setting" of a human is female, the Y chromosome just carries the genetic material for masculinization. This is not the case for X-23 though, as they just used two of the same X chromosome from Logan. Therefore as long as as that one X that was used twice did not carry a deadly mutation, X-23 would go through the process of X-inactivation and develop as a female. If you don't believe me look up X-inactivation. Fun fact this process is what creates the coloration on a "calico" cat.

      No, he'd be way more efficient than X-23. If you can cut an object with a double claw, you won't even be using the entire claw's area to cut, only about two small spots (one for each claw) are contacting the target at a specific time. With a single claw, the spot that is contacting the target is the exact same size as the double claw's spots, except it's just one spot, making it twice as better.
      And there's also the fact that longer blades = longer leverage = much more force.

    I believe you made a fundamental error, 2 in fact. 1: Laura is not genetically the same as logan as there was not enought genetic material to do the clone they wanted to in the comics. She got the necessary dna from a woman and that is the reason she is a woman and not a man, according to the comics. 2: Women and men have different upper body strengths and that throws off your calculations. She may have enhanced strength but logan has grown stronger with the years after lugging his metal skeleton around and has adapted to it.

      daveen adams Actually he says around the 2:25 mark he makes the assumption they are at equal strength because genetically they are the same person, which once again isn't true like I stated earlier. The science about cutting force is correct, but base assumptions about their strength being equal is flawed. If there wasn't enough dna to perfectly clone logan and they had to use other dna to complete the wholes in the sequencing, Laura, by definition, isn't genetically the same as Logan.

    You're mixing up science terms. Yes, 2 blades have better penetration force, but once the tensile strength of the target is exceeded the higher force is irrelevant. At that point the larger number of blades do more damage.
    One knife hitting a body with 3x the penetration force needed results in 1 stab wound and maybe some bruising around it from the hilt hitting. 3 knives hitting with 1x penetration force each results in 3 stab wounds. which is deadlier?

    • @brendonowens2968
      @brendonowens2968 7 лет назад +5

      Chris Evans no I think what he is saying is that he needs to push more to get the same amount of damage and it would only be a very small amount. it is the same reason a blade that is dull, or something that isn't a blade, a blunt object doesn't stab, because the matter is all so much closer together, but this is a very very very small amount of matter spread out over about an inch each time so it is not really about the force. it's like when your mom says go get a switch, and you know you better pick the thicker stick, but that's more also about surface area

    • @brendonowens2968
      @brendonowens2968 7 лет назад

      FatGamerGuy um i don't think that would work because the claws come out from between the bones in he arm and over the wrist, that you mean he would just pull her arm off, which I don't think would happen. it would be more likely that he shoved his claws up into her arms and pried them out.

    I don't know that I would have said "deadlier" when comparing them.
    When I was in my late teens I built a working version of the Devil's forks from Matt Wagner's very excellent "Grendel" series. When I tested it I learned about how the surface area of the cutting edge(s) affects the penetration of the edge in a slashing attack. Long story short, it requires more force to achieve the same slashing penetration with two blades mounted side by side than it does for a single blade. Noticably more. This lead me to believe that Wolverine's claw setup would be unfeasible as a slashing weapon *for regular humans* due to the forces involved to get the blades to penetrate deeply enough to be signficant. I even had an extra advantage in that my blades were mounted on a lever. So from that perspective, X-23 has the advantage: it requires less force to create significant penetration in a slashing attack using two claws.
    With a stabbing attack, however, Wolverine probably has the deadlier setup. When I tested the forks for stabbing power, while it does require more force to penetrate with a stabbing attack just like in a slashing attack, it's nowhere near as much of an increase. A regular person could easily muster the force to stab with two blades side by side. A third blade would require still more force, but I believe it would be a doable feat. Inside a target they' be difficult or impossible to cut with in a straight line, but getting them in there is within regular peoples abilities. However, cutting in a straight line isn't the only option. Once the blades are in the taget, you also can twist them. This would cut a circular "core" from the target, creating a hole that can't be easily closed not unlike the wound from the (totally against the Geneva Convention) triangular bayonet, but bigger. Wolverine's claws would be wider, so he would cut the bigger hole, so his would be deadlier in this case.
    Realistically, both would produce horrible wounds that would resist doctor's attempts to heal them. For regular people with regular strength, they would be awkward and limited. Both would be deadly, but more "practical" in different ways.

    Your right about her claws being more dangerous in cutting power than wolverine but some of the numbers are wrong in this video 1. Just because she is a clone does not mean that the two are the same strength, men have a greater muscle mass then woman that is why men are generally stronger than women
    2. Logan is also stronger because X:23 does not have a full animantium skeleton only her claws were coated in it, I mention this because recently in the comic where Logan dies it is mentioned that the only reason he is able to stand due to all the extra weight he got from the adamantium is because his healing factor increased how much his muscles tense and how much they can carry due to X:23 not having this happen to her body they do not slash with the same force as each other that's why some of your numbers were incorrect

    You have raised many, many questions:
    1) What about the extra weight a third blade brings to the table? Does Wolverine swing harder when his claws are out, than when two of them are retracted in his arm?
    2) If Wolverine has to cut through an opponent like the Hulk or DC's Superman, would it be more effective to use the added swing of three claws, or the higher pressure of a single one? What if he practiced a technique where he swings with three blades, then retracts the two at the last moment, giving him more pressure AND more swing? (You spin faster when you swift some mass towards the center of your rotation)
    3) Does X-23 hurt more when cutting through stuff? Yes, she does. Try poking a solid object with one finger, then two, then three, then four. This also applies to Sabretooth, and Yuriko from X2 (Lady Deathstrike).
    4) Can Wolverine change his physique? How does working out affect him? Does he have a constant 3% body fat? Can he become stronger only by eating, metabolising carbs and protein, and peeing fat? Does his healing factor come with a higher growing up rate? Does he actually pee fat?
    5) What else do I have to ask to be featured on your channel/Twitter/Instagram?
    6) Wolverine pees fat and cigar smoke, doesn't he?

    • @JetFiiire
      @JetFiiire 6 лет назад +1

      Just a piece of insight, you don't "pee fat", when you burn fat, most of it is exhaled.
      And also, Wolverine is heavier, but if they have exactly the same strenght and muscles, X-23 will be way faster considering she has less weight to move around, meaning a less heavy but way faster blow, and since speed = power, we'd have to calculate that.
      Also you'd have to take into consideration that women, in boxing (since we're talking about some kind of punch) have way more POWER compared to men the same weight, because the power in a punch comes from the ground, then with the kinematic chain goes up the legs, then the hips, the shoulder, the arm and at last the fist. Men lose a lot of power at the hips area because we're naturally way less flexible here. Meaning if a woman has exactly the same strenght and the same technique than a man, she'll hit way harder.

      J C I sense that your native language isn't english, because what you're writing doesn't make sense, neither grammatically nor semantically. I do however, think that I understand what you're trying to tell me, so don't worry about that.
      Here is a correct way of writing (at lest part of) what I believe you are trying to say: "Men were made to be the dominant gender of the human species."
      The way you express yourself also implies that you are religious (use of the word "made"), but that might not be intentional on your part. I personally am not, so I don't agree on there being a predetermined role for either gender, beyond the basic biological functions (only women can carry children etc.). Who is dominant depends on more than physical power, although history shows that men often end up in that role.

      Kinda/sorta yeah. Wolverine has far more raw experience with his samurai skills and all of that, especially since he recovered all of his memories of centuries of killing. If they berserk however that flips around; her overall finesse and skill while "triggered" (no seriously, it's called trigger scent what sets her off, try to mention that to the feminists) retains far more skill than Logan does, where Logan just goes utter animal and forgets all of those perfect killing styles he's mastered in favor of what he basically learned in his very earliest years. At that stage hers is also the better regeneration and strength because his fully covering adamantium skeleton is keeping him back; she won't ever be able to strike a killing blow so with a vs the fight goes to him always, but against other foes it kinda depends. It does make her a bit more interesting than just as a genderflipped version of the same character. (EDIT: Note that as X-23 is not strictly his clone but more like his daughter as a human woman's DNA was used in place of genetic material they were lacking, and like Daken she may have gotten a different total power set as a result. This hasn't really been explained much, as to which degree she really has his powers, if she would have his super strength and full regen, or a lesser version.)

    I think the bigger factor is the arrangement of claws between the two characters. While individual cutting force may vary, both are far more than sufficient to destroy most materials and adversaries. The claw arrangement then comes into play--both X-23's and Logan's hand claws are essentially static--whether there are two or three claws, they remain at the same distance and angle relative to each other, essentially acting as one attacking unit. The claws are stuck to the arms, and each of them only have two arms, therefore two appendages with which to both attack and defend. If you can block/parry/dodge Logan's hands, you can do the same with X-23. What X-23 brings to the table is the foot claws--while maintaining the same physical amount of claws, she's doubling the number of striking appendages. This gives her the advantage in both offense and defense--she simply has more tools to strike with.

    Actually... Wolverine can apply more force if they have equal strength/force. Wolverine's claws are reinforced by adamantium skeleton... so he can apply more force... where as X-23's are reinforced by regular bones (I don't know about her sockets.. wolverine does have adamantium ones inside.. they still gotta pierce his skin.) Say you throw a bowling ball at X-23... the blades will cut it, but.. and this is important.. the balls weight may rip the blades out of her hands/arms... where as Wolverine having a stronger skeleton means.. he will never have to worry about the limiting force he can apply because the "foundation" so to speak, of his claws. Kind of like how unrealistic the bionic man and woman was about their bionic parts and strength... their bionic arms would be ripped from the shoulder on some things they do... same goes for the Winter Soldier. I like how they now show Old Man logan, when using his claws to climb does them sideways.... because, if he did it straight up and down he'd have to use a lot of energy because he'd just keep sliding down. X-23 wouldn't have the same problem because she's lighter and has a normal skeleton.. oh... Wolverines skeleton and claws are affected by his healing factor, meaning he can actually regrow them with Adamantium ... this means Laura Kinney , being his clone, would end up with the same ability... I call it being able to metabolise the adamantium. Her healing factor is actually faster, not because she's younger (all mutant types like Wolverine and Sabretooth are basically immortal until killed.. there is one from the times a Rome Remus... which makes me believe Old Man Logan's slower healing factor might be from his killing the X-men in his reality... because in the past The Dark Phoenix Jean Grey and Rachel Summers has used their telekinetic powers to affect it before so it took a very long time for it to get back to normal... But, the reinforced skeleton behind Wolverine's claws means he'd always be able to apply actually more force, where as X-23's would be limitted by her normal skeleton's ability to reinforce her claws.

      Except that what holds the claws isn't bone, but connective tissue. The connective tendons and ligaments are what determines whether the claws stay or fly off. My problem with the foot blades is that the blade is extending from the foot, not the femur. You can pierce with that, but there is no way to get a proper edge alignment and cut like that. Not tho mention that while legs are stronger than arms, that really does not apply to sustained force unless you are standing on the target.
      Kicking puts you on one foot and that removes any ability to support you might have, deflecting a kick can easily knock a person off balance, and isn't capable of maintaining the sustained force needed to cut through resistance.

  • @nopenoperton4027
    @nopenoperton4027 7 лет назад +7

    While offensively X-23 seems to have the edge over Wolverine (pun intended), defensively, it makes sense for wolverine to have a three claw set up. For the same reason that his three-clawed setup applies less pressure when used to slice or pierce when receiving a force, Wolverine's claws would more equally disperse the force over all three of his claws, reducing the pressure put on each claw. While the biomechanics of a full adamantium skeleton are a bit lost on me, I can imagine that his tendons and muscle groups that control his claws in his forearms are still susceptible to wear and tear. Even if he can regenerate, the three-clawed set up means that wolverine can withstand 1.5 times as much pressure as X-23 before yielding. Especially when looking at how X-23 is smaller and supposedly more nimble, has one claw on each of her feet, and does not have the Wolverine full armour treatment tactically, it makes sense that while Wolverine is more like an unstoppable force because of his full skeleton and claw arrangement, X-23 is more of an offensive powerhouse than her original. battle practicality aside, this is a pretty interesting dynamic.

    Hi Kyle,
    I think the problem with your analysis is the assumption that the two swing with the same force. Even if genetically a clone of Logan, X-23 is still a woman/girl, and because of this her physical structure, skeleton, and muscular structure are different.
    The fact that Logan can fit three claws in his forearm, or even just comparing their physique to each other should tell you that.
    Because of this the amount of adamantium coated bone in each character's arm are different and this effects the amount of momentum their respective swings have. The change in momentum is what dictates the impact force of their claw strikes and it is the impulse, or force at a specific time, that you are highlighting in your F/A=P equation we are interested in.

    • @codyrhodes2473
      @codyrhodes2473 7 лет назад +6

      No, X-23 does not fit into a traditional model of "Women have less muscle mass" which I will give you is a real world issue. In the comics, however, X-23 and Logan both have well above human levels of strength, and Logan is unable to physically restrain X-23 in most cases. Taking this into account, we can assume that their strength is roughly equivalent, despite her physique.
      Also at the levels of strength we're talking about, a difference of less than 200 lbs in body weight is negligible.

    • @Nerdist
      @Nerdist  7 лет назад +6

      Yes but I have to do it the way I did, without making too many assumptions, because X-23's strength doesn't seem to track 1:1 with her size. -- KH

    • @Mj783980
      @Mj783980 7 лет назад +2

      Cody Rhodes
      My mention of muscle mass and skeletal mass were to highlight the difference in total mass between the two characters. Which effects the momentum of their strikes.
      Wolverine weighs 300lbs X-23 weighs 110lbs this is a massive difference in the amount of momentum their strikes would have. This is why in fighting we have different weight classes even if their strength is somehow comparable their momentum still wouldn't be. Mass is a much higher contributor because strikers speeds are usually also comparable with differences in velocity not being enough to out match differences in mass

    • @Mj783980
      @Mj783980 7 лет назад +1

      *****
      But what I'm saying is strength isn't the important characteristic, mass is. Even if X-23's muscles are somehow equally strong as Logan's it is clear her mass isn't. And what effects striking force is the change in momentum of whatever you are striking with. Logan will have a much larger momentum because he has more mass.
      X-23 being just as strong, _which i don't think is true but ok_ , would mean she is faster but the difference in their speeds wouldn't be enough to compensate for the difference in mass
      300lb vs. 110 - again not about strength but momentum

    • @fugusto1652
      @fugusto1652 7 лет назад

  • @pablogdeanda
    @pablogdeanda 7 лет назад +110

    I'm sorry to say you got some facts wrong. First, X-23 is a female clone so there IS a difference in how much force the two of them can put out, the same way you would be stronger than a girl with equal training, height, etc.
    Then, while your science facts are right, your comic book knowledge is wrong, the Weapon X program gave X-23 the adamantium in the same way they gave it to Logan, but she only has it in her 6 claws and not in her full skeleton like him. This fact is important because it means Wolverine can actually put all the force he can into his claw swipes while Laura cannot, since her adamantium claws trying to slice some really hard material with enough force would actually break her arm and maybe more of her bones, and Logan can go full force since his bones can take the force of the reaction.
    So Logan would be actually able to hit harder than Laura because he's physically stronger as a man, and can go full force, while Laura has to limit the amount of force she can use without breaking.
    Also, her claws are a little smaller than Logan's, and both of them achieve superhuman strength because the healing factor allows them to go further where you and I would sprain every muscle trying.

    2:20 Except logan's adamantium bones make him stronger (having to carry all that extra weight for centuries, so she's much lighter and has less force behind her blows), he's considered as having some degree of superhuman strength, as well as a female frame just not being able to hold as much upper body muscle as a man. So you're starting out with incorrect info on any force applied.
    But yeah, just debating claws alone, hers might be better weapons.

    Do an episode on healing factor. Wolverine is constantly being poisoned by a lethal dose of adamantium poisoning because his full skeleton is encased in adamantium but X23 only has her claws encased by adamantium. Another question is if having a full adamantium skeleton makes a significance because your limbs are harder to get cut off or if it's useless because you can just re-attach severed limbs and heal or totally regrow the limb. I dunno if Wolverine or X23 can heal that good but Deadpool might be.

      I think you mean women are physically weaker than men. Genetics don’t really matter. Women in general can’t build as much muscle as men can without the help of hormones, steroids, and protein supplements. They can still build some visible muscle, but they cannot get super beefed up like men can. Much less get as strong as men. Men are stronger and meant to carry more weight because of their greater body mass. Women have lesser body mass than men do, therefore they are not meant to carry heavy loads or build as much muscle like men. In a fight, men rely on their upper body strength to strike their opponents. Sometimes men would use their entire body weight. When women fight, they rely on agility. Women distance themselves from their opponent before they strike the vulnerable soft spots and vitals, as they cannot rely on their body weight or upper body strength. Overall, men have the upper hand in strength, women have the upper hand in agility.

      He said assuming they are both fully grown. I guess you could say that women are smaller than men, but that is just an average. Given that X-23 is a clone, I would guess that her adult body mass is similar to that of Logan. Plus only arm strength would really matter in most situations.

He goes on the whole video talking about the hand blades. Proceeds to make a flipping the bird joke, and then brings up the foot blades completely at random close to the end of the video. I'm pretty sure x-23 rarely even uses her foot blades. We hardly see them being used in media, and it's the first time I'm sure a lot of people have heard this. Did you already know about these feet blades before coming into the video? And don't say you do cause you choose to quickly look up sources after I bring this question up. If these feet weapons were brought up more in comics, I apologize cause I'm not well versed in her comic lore as well. For all we know, this is probably just an exclusive trait to one specific comic strip/set. Which makes said point about the footsie knives all the flimsier. Though I could be wrong.

    But that is also a disadvantage. It's fine when you are cutting soft things, but when they are against hard objects, Logan has an advantage. 3 claws are spread over the entire fist so the force applied on his fist is evenly distributed. In case of X-23, she just has 2, on the 2 corners of her fist. If she hits something hard with max force, there's a chance that her fists will rip apart before she can cut the thing.
    For example, Take a plank of wood. If you jump using your entire body weight and land on 5 fingers on the plank, you will break it. But if you use 1 finger and apply all your body weight on the plank, even though you will exert a lot more force, there's a high probability that you'll break your finger before the plank breaks.
    Same thing, even if her claws are capable of delivering strong blows, her fists won't be able to handle as the object gets harder. This gives Logan an advantage because he can decide how many claws he need for particular requirement.

    Just a side note.... The return pressure (pushing the blades back up) would also be 1.5x higher, meaning a 1.5x greater force is acting on the back of X-23's hands with each swipe, this force very likely hurts (even assuming that there is a counterweight to minimize this force). So it is likely that X-23 would swipe with less force, subconsciously, than Wolverine (although, admittedly, it would still result in a greater force, just unlikely the force you reached).

      But she would. Regenerative mutants don't work like average bodies do. Wolverine is close to super strength, but he's not the size of Colossus or Sentry. He's built like an average guy.
      Muscle mass rules don't apply here. Their muscles don't have to expand to contain the increased power due to them being in a constant state of repair. It's why Wolverine rarely gets out of breath.
      So, as an adult, she absolutely would be on par with him, and close to Captain America in strength, if not beyond. That's not even factoring in that she's more willing to give into feral rage than Wolverine, giving her an even deeper reserve of strength more often.
      So don't try that PC garbage. Mutant powers don't play by the laws of physics and reality. That's why they're so unnatural.

      Timed Revolver
      It doesn’t matter how strong she is or how primal she gets. She simply doesn’t have the mass. She doesn’t have an adamantium skeleton like Logan, which means she ‘s going to be a bit heavier than a very athletic woman. That’s less than 200 lbs. Even if she has super strength, she doesn’t have the mass to be able to resist the forces pushing back against her to successfully move objects that are substantially heavier than her. The only reason Logan is so abnormally heavy for his size is because of his adamantium skeleton. Remove this, and he would suffer from the same problem. If X-23 exerted her full strength and primal rage, she would still have a lower potential of maximum force she could apply without being given some way to mitigate the forces being applied to her. Their cutting capacities aren’t feats of strength anyway, as an average human could cut through just about anything pretty easily with adamantium blades, so having excess cutting power is pointless. Whatever they cut is still cut.

  • @ormrvoid3231
    @ormrvoid3231 7 лет назад

    the problem with these is a couple of factors
    1. Strength/pressure applied to the cutting force of which Wolverine has in abundance more than X23
    but also
    2. The distance between claws - With the three claws, logan has greater chance to inflict a more devasting wound or hit a target whereas two blades (especially the distance apart on the hand) m3eans that that degree of accuracy (chance) is reduced but also presents a fundamental flaw in another bladed weapon. As an example, spot the difference in gaps between the Predators Wrist blades vs V23s and then make that assessment.
    The only thing that made X32's claws better was the variety of location, 2 on the hand and one of the foot meant a larger arc of damage and range of attacks.

    I have a topic for you about wolverine pertaining to the new Logan movie specifically. Logan has a very slow healing factor and it is said that the adamantium is poisoning him. That doesn't make any sense to me thought because for it to poison him it would in theory need to rust. Adamantium is indestructible so it cant rust. I would just really like to get your take since you explain things scientifically.

  • @cameronkelly8472
    @cameronkelly8472 7 лет назад

    I don't know if this has been pointed out but Wolverines force per hit would be significantly higher than X-23s due to his entire skeleton being covered in adamantium whereas X-23 only has it on her claws. Adamantium is quite heavy when it's solidified and due to Wolverine having to carry that around for years his strength level would be much higher (as shown when he throws enemies around like rag dolls). Now when X-23 slashes the extra weight of her claws being extended would increase the force of her blows but when Wolverine does it's a lot more forceful (both due to his entire arm being weighted and he has more weight at the end due to the extra claw itself). Think swinging a baseball bat; X-23 hits the ball with the end of the bat (optimal zone) but Wolverine hits it with a bat made of cement.
    That's just my opinion though.

    Counterpoint: Three cuts very close together is a much harder injury to deal with than two farther apart. Stitching them closed would be a nightmare, so while Wolverine's claws don't impart as much cutting power., the wounds they inflict are more likely to be lethal.
