      Daniel Day-Lewis has never been 'tired' of acting. It's all about his devotion to his characters and preparation for the roles. He's married and has three sons. Wouldn't it be hard for you to lead the life of a lonely man dedicated only to his acting career and feeling as anyone but not himself all the time (he is extremely aware of loneliness because it's been chasing him for years)?

    I sincerely believe that Gary Oldman is the greatest actor of all time. each and every performance is memorable yet almost chameleonic. Obviously, gone are the days of Orson Welles or Marlon Brando or the last true great being De Niro, and since then no other American actor has really overtaken them, although I'll give Joaquin Phoenix and Sam Rockwell a shot, but many British actors have outdone them IMO.
    I also think that DDL is arguably the 2nd greatest ever after Gary Oldman. I say 2nd greatest because he is still recognizable which Gary Oldman simply isn't. Gary Oldman just withers away into his character.

    • @wenixandqwert
      @wenixandqwert 4 года назад +9

      While I can see the argument for Oldman being the best you are completely wrong about DDL being recognizible within his characters, indeed the main reason why I consider him to be the best actor is because you cant look at his roles and say "ah yes thats DDL performance" as you can for almost any other actor.. atleast all Ive seen.

    • @p27_aryavardhansingh79
      @p27_aryavardhansingh79 3 года назад +2

      @@wenixandqwert His acting is the most intense I've ever seen . Although Gary also has the same intensity, but DDL takes it to another level. In an interview he revealed that he read around 100 books to play Lincoln. If you see his expression during acting you can guess the emotion even if the scene is played at random. His mastery over accent which I would consider close to Gary is also one of the reason why I think he is the greatest.
      Gary is also one of my fav and for me he is one of the greatest actors of all time. The reason is his versatility,the delivery of dialogues , accent and his portrayal of not just emotions but the characters where no emotions can be predicted like Stansfield in Leon the professional.

    Thank you for an interesting and informational video. I am a fan of both men, but particularly of Oldman. I have always respected the quality of everyman, the pithiness and earthiness of many of Oldman's portrayals. By comparison I have often found Lewis's roles a tad too posh for my sensibilities. That being said and curiously enough, Lewis's characterization of the backwoodsman 'Hawkeye' in the "Last of the Mohicans" was tremendous and made that visually stunning film along with its lush score, one of the most memorable of my life. The roles that I have enjoyed of Oldman's are almost too numerous to mention. His remarkable portrayal of 'Count Dracula' in Francis Ford Coppola's "Bram Stoker's Dracula", his role as master spy 'George Smiley' in "Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy" and his work as police commissioner Gordon, in the Christopher Nolan's 'Batman' trilogy, have to top the list of my favorites.

For e.g. DDL appeared in less number of Movies as compare to Gary, Also Gary have hesistated once for a role he didn't able to do which was later done by DDL.
    They both have their own brilliance and insecurities, but apart from this they both are Best in their own way.
    Also in an interesting way they crossed paths together in their career:- GO didn't do "My Beautiful Launderatte" but later got his breakthrough by "Sid and Nancy".
    DDL is actually preferred for the role of "Sid Vicious" in the "Sid and Nancy" but GO won the audition and done that role and he definitely nailed it.

      Method acting is the most overrated thing in movie history, most method acting nowadays is caricaturist and doing ridiculous things to just show yourself to the Academy.
      It seems people have forgotten why Brando was so heavily revered, it was not because of the so called "method acting" per se, it was because his acting felt "real" and "believable". He was never a huge promotional bandwagon for method acting, more so for "believable" acting.

      gary oldman is an outsider,not a son of any famous writer,actor,singer.I did not see him in any spielberg,scorses,hervey winstons movie.he did francis capolas movie called dracula(oscar wining performance for me,though I hate vampire based creepy movie).he is not hardcore method actor.result of method acting: death of heath ledger....other method actors r weird: like bell,joaquin.....oldman loves to do 3, 4 movies per year.(he loves doing both good movies and bad movies,but not for oscar).his comic timing better than ddl.he is not welcomed by hollyood elite like speilberg,scorses,torentino,woody allen,director of there will be blood and so many.he is poor directors daniel de lewis.

      @@afnangeographicalsciencesc1848 I spose but I'm pretty sure that you can't help what you're born into...as for aligning DDL with 'corporate' directors, Coppola is no more or less corporate than Scorsese and not nearly as subversive as Paul Thomas Anderson but I digress, I love them both and to say that one is better than the other is kind of pointless and blaming Method Acting on Heath Legder's death is a bit far fetched...Brando? DeNiro? Again, not disagreeing I love them both.

    I always thought someone somewhere with vision and creativity should see the absolute dynamite that would be made if they got these two powerhouse actors together, It would be on a par with De Niro/Pacino Heat/ The Irishman. The Joe Pesci of them would be Tim Roth.
    I hope DDL one day comes out of retirement to work with his nemesis GO.

      Oldy and DDL were cast as the leads in 'Rosencrantz & Guildenstern'. DDL was suffering from stress and backed out (Tim Roth took the role). And "nemesis"? They have only nice things to say about each other.

    Daniel Day-Lewis, is the greatest actor alive! Gary Oldman, is a great character actor but he has a tendency to overact. Day-Lewis as a commited method actor, is far more natural.

    • @jpalvarez4972
      @jpalvarez4972 3 года назад +2

      Oldman's quirky, "big" style was his way to differentiate himself from RSC peers. It made him a legend. He can be as small as anyone when the time comes. At the same time, DDL can be quite the overactor (see his showdown with Dano in 'Blood').

      @@jpalvarez4972 Funny thing. Day-Lewis's performance in ''There Will Be Blood'', is my all time favourite. I don't think Oldman can be small at all. His intense physicality and expressions, give him away every time. That is probably why he was chosen to play so many psychotic and deranged characters, over the years. Check out ''State of Grace'', ''True Romance'', ''Leon''. On the other hand, Daniel Day-Lewis doesn't act. He's it.

      @@konstantinospetridis3733 Agree to disagree. Oldy, DDL, Walken et al have an elevated performance style. None are naturalistic in the style of say, a De Niro or Jeff Bridges. Different approaches to acting make cinema more interesting, though.
