      True, people always complain when they killed off the minor characters - like DYNASTY's Moldavia, everyone shot and bleeding, but by season premiere only Luke and Lady Ashley died and everyone else, no blood...Melrose Place blown up by Kimberly...but only guest star Morgan Brittany died, and despite the cast all scratched up and bruised, Alison went blind.

  • @ericnelson9100
    @ericnelson9100 3 года назад +12

    The biggest mistake was definitely killing off Melissa, and then replacing her with that god-awful, atrociously unwatchable Pilar Ortega character. Maggie's death was not just wrong, but the way it was done was cruel, tasteless and gimmicky. Both Melissa and Maggie, as well as Chase, could have been written off as opposed to their shock-o-rama deaths. And I agree, it does seem as if TPTB thought they were being bold and brave by killing off main characters; the problem was the abysmally carbon-copied replacement characters and storylines that followed. The seventh season after Chase's death wasn't too bad; given the show had more than half their budget cut they did the best they could and at least it was still watchable. But then the eighth season came with that Pilar Ortega coming out of nowhere and practically dominating the entire show, forcing the season characters to the back burner. At least with the last season all was wrapped up with no cliffhangers, as they knew it wasn't being renewed.

    • @rainymoon9848
      @rainymoon9848 3 года назад +6

      I agree, it was a mistake to write off Chase, Maggie, and Melissa the way they did. The character of Pilar should never have been introduced. It should have been Lance and Melissa expecting a baby in the final episode. They should have had a love triangle with Chase, Maggie, and Richard in season 7. Maggie chooses Richard and Chase moves away from Tuscany. He could have moved to Australia to work with Cole again. Then in season 9 Maggie moves to Australia to reunite with Chase. After the show was canceled they might have been able to bring back Chase, Maggie, Cole, Joseph for the final episodes. Instead they wrote all 3 off in a shock and awe manner. Leaving them with just Richard, Lance, and Emma left during the final season. Too often TIIC overestimate their ability to create great new characters.

  • @tonyatmidnight

    This show never hesitated in killing off major characters, but they only ended up burning their bridges. Melissa's death will always be a major head-scratcher, because it aborted what could have been the show's best stories in a long time (Melissa and Angela's epic war over FC) mid-way through the very beginning of it! They regretted it because they ended up bringing Ana-Alicia back as another character, which clunked miserably. Maggie's death, however, tops them all with its out-and-out gruesomeness. Apparently, Sullivan did not ask to leave the show - she was fired. Another major head-scratcher.
    They fully intended to bring Chase back - he was supposed to be the monk Angela was talking to in the monastery in season 7's cliffhanger. Foxworth had no interest in returning.

    Definitely Maggie's death was the number one shock of the series! I used to love how brutal the producers were in killing off the characters, however, it created a problem with the final season, in that the new characters it wrote in weren't strong enough to support the show and most of the great characters the series had created along the way, had been killed off. I would have liked to have seen Julia back in the last season, or even Melissa's double, otherwise, what was the point of even creating that character? Sadly, with so many of the legendary characters gone, the last season fell very flat. It really was the end of a golden era!

These are supposed to be educated people who are masters of the genre?! After season 8, they introduced boring one dimensional characters that had no reason to be part of the series. Viewers felt that through the years, they bonded and knew the characters and in FC’s last season, they killed off one of the most popular original characters and then bring in some weirdo who tries to smother Angela Channing, the star of the show and they throw her into a coma and tortured fans by cheating them with weird plots and a horrible new theme song. Don’t resurrect the dead.. These new shows that are reboots never really work. We seen how that these new shows have ignored the original backstories and add new backstories that make no sense and add insult to injury by trying to convince fans of the original series that these families and company names were part of the original series. Dallas was not even picked up by a Major network like CBS and they butchered the Barnes Ewing saga by making up history and weird company names and adding mainly Hispanic characters and dwelled too much on drug cartels and ruined the interior of Southfork and tried jamming down the loyal fans throats that miss Ellie was in a mental hospital after Jock died and created the Latino family and tried fooling viewers that the Latino mother was the Ewing maid and her kids grew up with the younger Ewing kids. Soon as Larry Hagman died I knew it was all over and thank goodness! Now they have a Dynasty reboot without any of the original cast and changed the spelling of main character names and even has a Black Jeff Colby.. Nowadays every reboot has a rainbow of colors regarding the cast. I’m all for diverse characters but where does it say that every reboot has to totally change the show they are rebooting? Just create a new series and then knock yourselves out! The trouble with Hollywood today, is that they don’t have any creative people to write and produce new shows so they have to reboot a dead series. Roseanne started off great then she makes an off colored joke and she’s immediately fired and killed off her own show that bore her name and made ten of millions of dollars in revenue during its original run and actually had a good start viewer wise. She gets killed off, they change the name and made deadpan and monotone, Sara Gilbert, it’s new star and the show tanks! The show didn’t tank when Roseanne Barr was the star and had amazing ratings because she wasn’t politically correct so ABC becomes the new SJW of the entertainment industry and kicks her out? So in their quest to be politically correct, they rather lose millions of dollars by rebooting their own reboot! Idiotic move and they deserve everything they get. Roseanne was the winner and she should be glad she’s out of that snake pit! While we should be compassionate to others, we live in a world where it’s not forgivable if fallible humans make bad judgements or make an offensive joke! She apologized and that’s not good enough? I’m tired of this sissified culture where everyone is offended by everything and people protest every little thing if they don’t get their own way.

    Interesting that both Chase & Maggie died by drowning. Likely a rumor, but I read that Jane Wyman didn't get along with Mel Ferrer and that's why he was written off the show...

      That is interesting. I never thought of that (both died by drowning). Seems impossibly odd we never saw Cole or Vickie again.

      It was true. Ferrer even publicly complained that Wyman got him fired.
