  • Andrey Shilov plays "Rapaziada do Braz" - Valsa by Alberto Marino, arranged by me.
He was born on April 26 1923. Having written the instrumental valse "Rapaziada do Brás" at age 15, Alberto Marino became famous after its recording in 1927 by his Sexteto Bertorino Alma. In 1960 his son Alberto Marino Júnior wrote lyrics for "Rapaziada do Brás," recorded in the same year by Carlos Galhardo.I listened this piece performed solo by Dilermando Reis and also sang by Francisco Petronio accompaniied by Reis and his duo partner. I liked it very much and made my own arrangement of this beautiful Valsa. The title may be translated as "Teenagers from Braz".
Rapaz is a young male, past his teens, and before a full adult. And Braz is a very traditional district from São Paulo, with a heavy presence of italian immigrants in the first half of the 20th century. In the lyrics, the author remembers his youth in the Braz neighborhood.
Thanks to Marco Tada for explaining the meaning of the title!
Днепропетровский гитарист Андрей Шилов исполняет "Rapaziada do Braz" - (Valsa) композитора Альберто Марино. Он родился 26 апреля 1923. Сочинив инструментальный вальс "Rapaziada do Brás" в возрасте 15 лет, Alberto Marino стал знаменитым после его записи секстетом Bertorino Alma in 1927.

As always, excellent interpretation, amazing how it is played in D minor the same tone that Dilermando Reis plays but that in this arrangement was less tearful, you are an excellent guitarist.

Thank you very much Francisco! I wanted to play this piece but the arrangement I had was rather poor. So I made my own arrangement, added second voice etc.

Carlos

Just one correction, the title is translated as "Boys (or young guys) from Braz". Rapaz is a young male, past his teens, and before a full adult. And Braz is a very traditional district from São Paulo, with a heavy presence of italian immigrants in the first half of the 20th century. In the lyrics, the author remembers his youth in the Braz neighborhood.

Thank you very much Marco for explaining the meaning of the title! To know this, one has to be a Brazilian. So the correct translation would be something like "Teenagers from Braz". Thank you friend!

It could as well be translated into English like this: YOUNGMEN FROM BRAZ.

Thanks friend! I've been playing the guitar almost 50 years. Yes, good sight reading is very important. It helps to learn a piece quickly. I mastered it very early, at the beginning of my playing. That was because of lack of guitar scores. I had just a couple of albums and read them every day. Each time it became better and better. 😉
