Sunday bake with me, easy Date and Walnut cake, recipe below 😋

- #cake #baking Hello my lovely people, todays video is a bake with me, date and walnut cake. I hope you enjoy watching, and moreover consider baking it. The recipe and ingredients are listed below, if you decide to give it a go. As always, thank you for watching, and sit back and enjoy….

Ingredients
8oz Self raising four
8oz caster sugar
8 fluid oz unflavoured oil
2 tsp baking powder
Pinch of salt
4 eggs
1 tsp vanilla essence
6oz pitted dates
60z chopped walnuts
1 tsp bicarbonate of soda
Put chopped dates in a bowl along with bicarbonate of soda and pour boiling water over till just about covered. Stir and leave to one side for approx half an hour. When ready, preheat oven to 170 degrees/160 if fan assisted, and line 2 x 1lb loaf tins, or 1 x 2lb loaf tin.
Place eggs, oil and vanilla essence in a bowl, whisk till blended. Sift flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt into the bowl and mix till combined. Add dates along with the water, and chopped walnuts, mix together. The mix will be runny, but that’s ok. If you have 2 tins, divide the mixture between the 2, if you only have 1 x 2lb tin, pour all the batter in.
Place in the middle of the oven, and bake for at least 45 mins before testing if it’s cooked with a skewer. Test again at 5 min intervals till skewer comes out clean. If you have used a 2lb tin, your cake may take longer to bake.
Leave to cool, and enjoy.
I forgot to place 3-4 whole walnuts on the top of the batter for decoration, you can if you choose.

Lynne you’re a natural when baking, I’ve watched several people who talk as if they’re not doing the task saying I would (drives me mad) whereas you say I’m using, doing etc if you know what I mean 😂😂.

@@sandrabalmer-bb5xq I do Sandra, I use it for chips, salmon fillets, chicken fillet wrapped in Parma ham, sausages, crispy potatoes, all sorts really, you can even roast a small chicken…oooo you’ll have to experiment. ❤️❤️❤️
@@Nanna-MI’ve only made frozen fish fillets and chips so far on Friday. I’m trawling on Facebook and RUclips for recipes as I’d like to make full meals to avoid using my oven lots of people seem to use them just for convenience foods.

Hiya Lynn, oh I love date and wallnut cake. Have made the Whitworths recipe, thats a good one. I'm the kind of person that can bake cakes, but small buns er no! They come out soft and springy but end up like Frisbees when cold. TFS your recipe Jax❤x

Hi Lynn, Well I made it and the smell of it cooking was gorgeous as is the cake. M daughter was bit apprehensive as she is not keen on walnuts but I told her they are different when baked in a cake. She loves it. so she is quite happy as am I. Btw I found the air fry chip & pot seasoning it was in B&M. so will be making the lovely Lynn inspired seasoned pot tomorrow . Exactly ballerina, I love walnuts, and it’s such a moist cake, it breaks very easy, I eat it with a spoon lol x the hair and and apron have kinda become a thing now when I’m doing a baking video, so I’ll keep it going 🥰 I’m just in the middle of editing the burst, it’s a right mess, but all sorted now. Hi Lynn, the cake looks lovely however I can’t stand walnuts……I had a real passion for them when I was pregnant with my youngest daughter but now I can’t stomach them….odd I know🤷♀️ but dates I love so may try the cake minus the walnuts. Really looking forward to your up and coming videos, let’s get in the Christmas spirit🎄
Oh I’m sure it’ll still taste good, I thinks the nuts soak some of the oil up, maybe cut down on that a bit if you’re leaving them out. I used to smell firefighters when I was pregnant with my son lol I just loved the smell of them. Yes Christmas will be here before we know it ❤️❤️

That cake looks so nice when you say plain oil do you mean vegetable or sunflower oil or something different, I have never baked with oil before x
@@anneowens1073 yes Anne, just a flavourless one, so for instance not olive oil, I used vegetable in mine. It’s just replacing one fat egg butter, with another, and it makes for a moist cake, as it doesn’t set like a butter does, if that make’s sense 🥰❤️❤️❤️
