I got into a close quarter shootout me against 2. Lost my right eye. Blew my nose off my face. I killed both of them. Ive never had the $ & time to become a range warrior. True there is NO front sight focus. All i can say is drive / push the pistol mentality " into" the assailant. I did learn a long time ago how to firmly hold a pistol and put a lot of personal emphasis on the non trigger / support hand and shooting with my so called non dominant hand to the point that i don't consider my other hand a poor choice. You're going to shoot enough & often enough to be non thinking/ familiar with shooting that carry pistol, clearing, reloading yada yada yada. I did and still do visualize scenarios.
I always said there are soldiers (typical folks) and there are warriors!! Your a effn warrior brother, i would be in a gun fight with you on my side any day..
In a gun fight it’s point and shoot!!! Everything you ever learned,,, forget it, it’s all muscle memory, and try to keep your cool, keep moving and DONT panic!! Remember just because your shot doesn’t mean you’re dead!!!!! Keep fighting until the lights go out!

You guys have been in multiple shootings on duty, I wanted to get your perspective on caliber effectiveness, what caliber you were using in your shootings, and when good torso shots were landed, how long did it take for the shots to stop the suspect?
We have been in shootings with handgun and rifles. It’s not like the movies and suspects don’t go down immediately. We might do an episode talking about ours.
You have to learn how to control your fear and use structural indexing to develop your natural point of aim. I have been to training where we tape over the sights so have to practice proper stance. Shoulder position and so on. When I fit pistols to people I have them draw and present the gun on target with their eyes closed. When they open there eyes they should be on target. If not it is probably that the gun does not fit their hand or wrist alignment. We then try a different gun until we get one that naturally indexes for them. It works.
Throwing a little shade at LA huh. I think people forget it’s not like a movie. Shooting at a guy holding a baby, while moving and shooting at you is an extremely difficult task.

That being said unless you know the reason an incident failed, I wouldn’t imply why without knowing. Maybe he does know idk. He said LA and I wrote that. However he is speaking of a LAPD Swat incident in 2005. Nobody attacked anyone in my comments so be more respectful Chris. You have no idea how old I am, but I do look young for my age so thank you. 😊
You absolutely can and should see your sights in combat shooting. Force on force training is where it’s at. Get away from the competition shooter garbage.

That's really good advice. I need to do this but how much experience should someone have before they do this?

The incident he is talking about is the Suzie Pena incident. Definitely a learning experience and reminder of how bad things can go.

Jim Cirillo in both his book and in recorded interview stated that he clearly saw the serrations on his front sight.
