Thank you for this video. I bought a vintage Boy Scouts pack exactly like that but like you I am way to big to wear it comfortably. I love your channel I live in central West Virginia so our forest areas are pretty much the same and just like using the pack frame I learn no matter how many years I am doing this awesome sport we do.
very nice kit...i had a yucca pack in scouts back in the sixties..i only wish we had Alice in those days as the thin canvas straps of the Yucca cut badly into young shoulders. i have a similar pack system using an old czech M60 rucksack attached to a wooden frame, full of nostalgia and lotsa fun!...thanks for sharing your kit with us amigo...woods
Love the set up Dan! I have a couple of Yucca packs myself and have been thinking to to rig one up on a frame as you did. That really is a versatile kit. Thanks for sharing. Take care.
man I love them yucca packs got 3 of them one I cut down to a large haversack an I run lashing through the d rings so I can cinch it down nice frame b.t.w and system stay safe brother
a great blending of vintage boy scout / bushcraft /woodscraft/ living history..and woodsy knowledge..really enjoyed the video..i was planing on doing a video like this for my channel... but ya beat me too it..lol safe journeys
+Coalcracker Bushcraft - Enjoyed rewatching this vid as spring is approaching once again in central PA and I'm getting ready to adjust my load out for the new season!
I like the pack and the way that you did the frame. I have a similar pack but mine is a old wwll pack with three exterior pockets and made from heavy canvase in green color the only thin is the frame that came with it is heavy tube steel, so I am thinking of making a frame for it out of 1/2 inch schedule 80 pvc pipe so it will be liter in weight but I also need to water proof it. Do y ou think a bees wax/boiled linseed oil will work for this? It is about the same size as what you are using and wondering how much I should make up. What do you think I really like this pack a
I have that same cancel lantern which is great, but a bit of advice... Don't stick the candle directly in the lantern or you will have a big wax mess in the lantern. Put the candle in a glass candle holder and drop the candle holder and candle into the lantern so all the melted wax stays contained inside the candle holder and not all over the inside of your lantern.
Nice and clever vintage kit! Can You give a bit informations about the shown oilcloth tarp? (Size, fabric strength, weight, manufacturer, if it's not self made... ) That tarp pack looks pretty compact...
I really like your extensive amount of knowledge and I really enjoy watching you but in all your kits you put together I have to ask but do you ever carry a flashlight, a medikit, and a water purifier like a sawyer or a lifestraw? Please dont think im being critical cause im not I just wanted to know if you even bother to carry those 3 things with you at any time...Really enjoy watching you your my kind of person to camp with.
About 1:30 to 2 hr depending where in Bucks county. Check out our classes at coalcrackerbushcraft.com the August basic Bushcraft class is going to be a blast
I still think you need to carry a heavy duty leather journal. You never know when you need to document something right away. Leather journal, please!!!!zone34
I believe it's pronounced cook-sah (kuksa or guksi). I thought it was pronounced kuss-kah, too, until I realized I was swapping the middle letters, since in English, we're more likely to see the combination of sk instead of ks...
I have used that same lantern for a couple years now and love it!!! Nice pack and load out. Very traditional looking.

I really like this pack and would like to use it for spring and4 early summer hikes and bushcraft outings. What do you think?
Good idea.👍Beware, leather can "eath" firesteel. If this are close to each other, longer time. I have experienced that.
I tried looking it up. What does "eath" mean?
Very good. Thank you very much

Wow man great kit and pack. That lantern is awesome! Where'd you get the small water bottle and steel cup it nests in?
swiss army water bottle and cup can be found on ebay......folding lantern can be found at garrettwade.com......
ben terwellen thank you!
Enjoyed your vid, I live in Pa also. Question? What did you make the pack frame from?
Honestly i'm not sure what that was, I just took my time and worked a small straight sappling into a curved piece
As always a great learning video, some items I have carried, others are something to consider thanks again
I'm sorry, what's the carving tool? Maca tarvin? Am I missing something basic?

Where can you find that lantern?
Urban Survivalcraft Garrett wade use to sell them.
Thank you.
what boots do you wear?
Matthew Binzer danner pronghorn
Coalcracker Bushcraft thank you
U.k. Army, sewing kit, Is also, house wife. Over.
It´s kuksa, not kuska.
Its pronounced KuKsa , not, Kuska my man. Its a Sami word because the cup originates from what the Scandinavian Sami indigenous people carry.
Ah, yes--the Yucca Pack, a/k/a Ol' Crippler. Without a frame it is the worst pack ever made.
