Johnny was performing In Folsom Prison for the inmates .Merl was doing life sentence for armed robbery.him and best running buddy .that guy triedescape and was killed. Merl decided he didn't want to end up like his friend . . So can he turned more to his music.that saved him through good . behavior. And his meeting with Johnny. Cash showing his songs to Johnny. He was really impressed with his sound and writtings .That he wrote to the warden .and told him to leterl out he had so much talent . It would be a waste of a man that could chance turn his life into a positive life.Given the chance. And he would be responsible for Merl and give to him a place to live and work .The waden couldn't resist .And let. . Merl out on parole .
