“A disaster sinced they’ve joined the SEC” is a bit of a stretch… A&M is the 4th most winning SEC program (either in the past 10 years or since they’ve joined, can’t remember.) behind Bama, Georgia, and LSU. And it’s a pretty big gap between 4 and 5.
Only a disaster if you consider hovering around 7-5 and 8-4 a disaster. Which some programs would to be fair.

The ND vs A&M game is more interesting than it first appears. Elko gets to face his old QB who is now at ND in his very first game at his new school. Plus Freeman is currently undefeated against Elko.
And it is a game between two former ND DC's

Notre dame overrating is getting out of hand. Texas A and M, the 10th best power rated sec team is favored over the 5th ranked nationally Notre Dame team. What are we doing with these top 25 rankings.

ND @ A&M is a great matchup and should have a great atmosphere, especially Week 1 when there will be optimism and hope on both sides..
I actually kinda hope to go back to Kyle Field for that ND game. Was superbly fun going to the Bama game there; and I just know it’s gonna be insanely loud

not having Jimbo Fisher coach this team is worth at minimum 2-3 more wins. Guy was incompetent as a head coach, organizationally he was a disaster and it manifested in every aspect of the team. Looking forward to watching Mike Elko coach this team this year

This game has a lot of things going for it. It's likely to be close, features a new regime, and it's on a campus that will be loud and proud.

Both the Georgia Clemson game and the Miami at Florida game are better choices in my mind, college game day in Atlanta for a Georgia game would be huge, plus Clemson would definitely show out as well with Atlanta being a reasonable trip for them. And if they wanted a home field environment the Florida/Miami game seems better to me also.

I believe that the reason that they didn’t do Georgia vs. Clemson is because they are saving Gameday for Clemson vs Florida State and Georgia vs Alabama, Texas and even maybe Ole Miss!!🐘🐘🐘
They also like that on-campus environment with the students and Atlanta is not Athens.
I agree with you Lou. A lot of people hate on Notre Dame and majority of them know absolutely nothing about the program or team. They just hate to hate and repeat a bunch of false and Ignorant narratives that never seem to want to die. There are just so many Ignorant takes. This Notre Dame team should be very good and is without question a top 10 team, with arguably a top 5 defense. They might have the best secondary in college football. I am surprised that Notre Dame is the underdog. I think Notre Dame wins and there is a chance Notre Dame could take it to Texas A&M. Mike Elko is a good coach and will be playing against his former quarterback Riley Leonard, who is now Notre Dame's quarterback. I like Notre Dame in this one! God Bless you!!
Hear me out, all College Gameday locations, and games should be on campus (outside of RRR, Army / Navy, and the Cocktail Party). So IMO, this is the best game being played on campus week 1.

Not understanding how a team with 13 wins in two years, lost tons of big time recruits, fired their coach, has been a disappointment in their conference, is suddenly a big shot since they open with ND???? Make it make sense? This game is only close because of Kyle field in my opinion. In South Bend: ND by 13 easy. Idk, maybe I'm crazy, but I just don't see how TAMU just suddenly turns into Alabama because of Elko... (who lost to ND last year, then lost his QB to them..)

A&M hasn’t won a road game in a few years. The home away factor for A&M has been pretty huge.
Something to consider about Riley Leonard is if he plays, Mike Elko knows all of Riley Leonard's weaknesses. If Frreeman starts Riley week 1 after an injury how complex will the ND offense be?
How complex will ND’s offense need to be ? With the expected defense ND will have, managing the game as an offense should be more than what’s needed.

Keep looking at those lines. A&M is favored against Florida, Missouri, LSU, Arkansas, auburn, and ND. Only line that’s published that A&M is an undergdog in is UT and they’re at +4
Thinking A&M lost everyone important is forgivable because of all of the clickbait headlines going around, and they absolutely lost a couple of headliners that they would’ve loved to of kept, but it was nowhere near the mass exodus that twitter dorks would lead you to believe it was. QB Conner Weigman is an absolute stud. The RBs are studs. WR’s Muhammad and walker are Studs. The secondary has been extremely overhauled in both coaching and talent, D-line, linebackers, all looking great.
The 2 biggest questions for A&M this year is the O-line, Wich had talent but absolute clown coaching and development last year. Should see some improvement there but who knows how much.
2nd question, how quickly can this new staff get everyone on the same page. Everyone internally is pumped on Elko and his new staff, but it doesn’t matter who it is, a brand new 1st year staff is always going to be hard to mesh from the start.
A&M is probably going to be one of those teams that look totally different from week 1 to week 13

This is why I've always had a lot of Respect for Notre Dame. Are they overrated and overcovered consistently? Maybe. But they dont duck the smoke and they never have. My barber shop was really old folks who liked Lsu and Notre Dame so we had newspaper clippings from both teams. And the same places you saw Lsu fighting for their life at like Tuscaloosa, Auburn, Florida, and Georgia. You saw Notre Dame hits those same places up on occasion. I respect that

first, let me state that I almost always agree with you about your Notre Dame takes - especially since they are based on fact, and not feeling (for the most part! 😁)
So, onto the game. I agree that this game can go either way. The fact it is in Texas, and in the last 10+ years(?) ND has been a Jekyll and Hyde team on opening weekend as a road team against top 25 opponents is probably the reason for the underdog status for this one. The fact they are only a one point underdog supports that fact, in my opinion.
So, I am good with these odds.

I wouldn't pick the UF vs Miami game because one team practices on a girls soccer field and the other has a head coach that has accomplished nothing at Florida in his career there. But pissing off the fan base and letting other teams break historical records on them! Why bother? Love my gators but we down bad!
This game is going to decide how both teams seasons are going to play out. I think the spread will be within 7-10 points. If A&M’s O-line improved at all, I see A&M winning this. Take a look at all the games lost last year. VERY small margin losses with a 3rd and 4th string QB.
I do love how A&M is not hyped at all this year. That seems to just hurt the team every year.
I imagine for the UGA Clemson game at least part of the thinking was UGA is at Texas, Alabama and Ole Miss this year and hosts Tennessee and Georgia Florida and Georgia Auburn have rivalry angles. That's 6 UGA games more interesting than the Clemson game. Probably took this game out of contention for gameday early.
Lou there is a simple reason. The U - Florida and Irish vs. Aggies could be close games. Do you personal believe that Georgia vs. Taters is a close call ? I have UGA by 14 and as you know i m not a Georgia Fan by any means. And someone has to fill the noon spot. But you watch the noon games anyway so shoudnt matter to you when Georgia plays.
Marcus Freeman should be on the hot seat discussion if they can't beat a first year coaching staff.

I think Texas A&M is going to win. I saw what Mike Elko did to ND with a Duke roster. I saw how Marcus Freeman wasted talent like Sam Hartman. Even if Riley Leonard is healthy he isn't a finished product. That Texas heat and atmosphere week 1 will be a factor.
Sam Hartman just isn’t good. He was a huge detriment to the Irish, along with the OC. Thankfully ND has a lot of options at QB aside from Leonard.

I had A&M -2.5. You have an injured quarterback going against his former head coach who knows all of his strengths and all of his weaknesses. I expect Notre Dame to win this game but if A&M won it wouldn't surprise me.

Well they don’t generally go to neutral sites so Georgia and Clemson isn’t an option LSU and USC play on a Sunday. Notre Dame and Texas A&M have only played 2 regular season games last one being almost 25 years ago
Gameday would've went to LA if LSU and USC game wasn't on Sunday, why because it will be top 15 or 20 matchup

For whatever reason, ND tends to play down to their opponent and sometimes even lose in these marquee road games early in the season. We shall see though!

I think this is a good choice. Georgia will beat Clemson by 30, Florida and Miami are poverty programs, but these are evenly matched teams imo.

It's not all about the matchup, it's mostly about eyeballs. Because that equals money.
From a big ND fan. We have one of our worst O Lines in a decade. Texas A&M should win that battle. However, ND is really good everywhere else. If we can play to a draw our O Line vs their D Line ND wins handily. For A&M to have any chance they need to dominate that match up. They just might.

This is one I agree with, you haven’t seen this matchup since the early 2000s I believe all the others you have seen more recent. ND is a top 5 team and I think A&M will be ranked. I don’t think Fla is that good, nor is Clemson. I think the better game is the one they are going to

I think the reason A&M is a 1 point favorite over ND is because the game is at Kyle Field. If I understand correctly, UGA never got to experience A&M at Kyle Field. I would compare it to Auburn playing at home. They are just a different team at Home than they are on the Road. Oklahoma has to Kyle Field when OU was ranked #1 and A&M wasn't ranked and they beat our a$$es. You just can't look past A&M at Kyle Field.
No matter who got the prime time slot. ABC has the most interesting games that weekend.
