    Interesting to note the parallels to certain Greek myths. Ra foresees that the children of Nut will overtake him, and taking steps to prevent them from doing so, just as Uranus and Cronus foresaw and attempted to prevent their own overthrow by their own children. Even more strikingly, Isis goes on a search for her lost husband, goes to work for a noble family in disguise, and attempts to make their child immortal by burning their mortal flesh away, before being interrupted by the child's mother, and growing wrathful. This is markedly similar to one version of the myth of Demeter and Persephone, in which Demeter, after searching for her lost daughter for several days, comes across a town, where she takes up a disguise, goes to work for a noble family, grows fond of their child, and tries to make the child immortal by burning away his mortal flesh, before being interrupted by the mother, and placing a curse on the town in vengeance. I wonder... did the Greeks borrow this myth from the Egyptian, do both stem from some older myth, or are the similarities somehow just coincidental?

      Thanks for your comment. That's a fascinating analysis. The Greek civilization learned from the Egyptians in several ways, so it's a possibility that the Greeks borrowed from the Egyptians in regards to myths.

      Well I don't know where that part came from about Ra fearing being overthrown by Nut's children. Ra willingly gave up his throne because he didn't want to be king anymore and chose his successor himself. There is a myth about Ra cursing Nut, but not for that reason so far as I know. But the reason the two stories about the search are so similar is because this is from a Greek version of the Osiris story as told by Plutarch, a Greek writing during the Greek era of Egypt. The Egyptian sources have no such details of the Demeter-esque journey of Isis. The Greeks identified their gods with Egyptian ones and Demeter was identified with Isis, so it's not unusual to see a Demeter myth given to Isis in Plutarch's account.

      I would think the Greeks borrowed alot from the Egyptians, though I think the Egyptians themselves got there's from an even older civilization. Nearly every major and minor religion or form of spirituality has a flood myth( if you dont believe me research it yourself). It wasn't something that the bible writers invented themselves. I personally think all world faiths stem from a much much older original religion that was the first original spirituality invented by humans. Then people scattered and form their own social-ethnic groups, but retained the memory of those stories in their oral traditions, adapting them as they saw fit to the new experiences they were under going in their new surrounding. As big as the world is, in essence it is actually quite small. Don't let anyone else tell you otherwise.

Word got to Osiris in the underworld and so Osiris sent message to the effect that if Horus was not awarded the kingdom then Osiris would release the dead onto the earth and that they would outnumber the living. So Horus was awarded the kingdom.

    Nice video but a lot of small errors and misinformation.
    For example: Sett did not wish to "overthrow" his brother and "take the throne"
    He already had it. His brother was like the ambassador for Sett. The ppl liked him more and saw him often. Thus, began to praise HIM as a God also.
    And there has never been any evidence to support or prove Canabilism.

    Nice. I wonder how you came up with those very alternative versions. I always found the standard story a bit grotesque with all the butchery, sodomy, semen war and even a man getting impregnated. I am puzzled because not only the signifiers change but also have different meanings; for example, did Isis find 42 or 14 parts of Osiris' body? The symbolism of these numbers diverge significantly.

    • @CaptivatingHistory
      @CaptivatingHistory  6 лет назад +9

      Thanks for the comment, glad you liked it. Even during the New Kingdom, the story was very old, but it has a lot of different versions and a range of interpretations, (no Egyptian source gives us a full account of the myth). So it's likely you've read or watched a slightly different interpretation of the myth. We aim to keep our videos children friendly. Exactly what they meant is hard to say but, In Egypt, the Amenti, area where go the souls of deaths, westward of the Nile, was divided in 14 parts. The number 14 can symbolize the number of days required to shape a full moon.

    • @AtheismReviews
      @AtheismReviews 6 лет назад +5

      That is one interpretation of things, another is that 14 is the number of stars in the Orion constellation, the Sah of which was considered to be Osiris' astral body or soul in the afterlife of the heavens. Osiris as a moon god, was a latter, less dominate, syncretism, than as compared to the dying and rising Orion constellation, as celebrated in the annual Khoak festival:
      www.eoht.info/page/Khoiak%20festival
      The number 42 is the number of nomes (capitals) of ancient Egypt; there were accordingly 42 gods that sat in the judgment hall, during the weighing of the souls. It was the way that Egypt became an empire, giving each locality their god's say in the big picture state religion scheme of things.
      Isis only found 13 of the body parts, as the dominate version of the myth goes. The missing piece was the phallus, which was swallowed by a fish, and thereby becoming part of the power of the water of the Nile. Hence, the symbolic meaning of the power of baptism (Anubis became John the Baptist in Christian mythology).

    Thoth is just everywhere doing the right thing at the right time ...

    • @epebocshadows583
      @epebocshadows583 3 года назад

      Not even.. Thoth aka Hermes is nothing but a Thot!
      Greek vs Egyptian mythology
      Erebus= Osiris
      Nyx aka Nox= Isis
      Hypnos= Horus
      Zeus= Set aka Seth
      Maia= Amathaounta
      Hermes= Thoth
      Hera= Nephys
      Hades= Anubis
      Amut= Cerberus
      Lucifer aka Amenadiel= Amon Ra
      Ouroboros= Apep aka Apophis
      Pandora's Box= The Pyramids
      In both cultures we start off with our two primary God and Goddess.
      (Erebus/Osiris) and his wife (Nyx/Isis). Now in Egyptian it's Nephys who comes to her sister Isis's husband Osiris and has him believe she is Isis.. seducing him into sex and giving birth to Anubis.
      However in Greek mythology this would mean Hera seduces Erebus and gives birth to Hades... Who isn't really her husband Zeus's son but is indeed the son of Erebus. And after Zeus and the Titans kill Erebus Zeus will raise the child from a far... Keeping Hades away from the rest of the Olympians and to domain in the Underworld of his true father (Erebus) so that he may never learn truth that he isn't the younger brother of Zeus but is indeed child of (Erebus/Osiris) and (Hera/ Nephys). But even Erebus's own pet dog (Cerberus/Amut) stays back to eventually serve the son of his former master (Erebus/Osiris). It's because of the fornification with his wife that (Zeus/Seth) goes after (Erebus/Osiris)... (Hera/Nephys) undoubtedly knowing her mistake now tries to reconcile her fault by teaming up with her own sister (Nyx/Isis) to bring (Erebus/Osiris) back to life. Somewhere (Hypnos/Horus) teams up with his mother and aunt (Nyx/Isis) and (Hera/Nephys)... Hera has (Hypnos/Horus) place a sleep spell on (Zeus/Seth) not once but twice...in attempt to avenge his father. (Erebus/Osiris) is brought back from the dead and commanded his serpent the (Ouroboros/Apophis) to wage war upon all of Egypt... But (Zeus/Seth's) son Thoth turns it around and directs the great serpent upon the God of the sun (Lucifer/Ra)... Son of (Zeus/Seth) blames Erebus and his family for going after one of the most high (Lucifer/Ra) God of the Sun... because of which The command for Erebus to be forever emprisoned was set out.. (Erebus/Osiris) and most of his Greek children were then cast into Pandora's Box to be forever sealed away... Pandora's Box being the ancient pyramids.
      Eventually after (Zeus/Seth) is finally killed by (Hypnos/Horus).. (Hermes/Thoth) takes his father's place and rewrites all of History to try to cover up the crimes of his own father and family... Upon the true Primordial Gods! (Hermes/Thoth) then denies his own father (Zeus/Seth) and his mother (Maia/ Amathaounta). Cause what true God has a mother or father? Then (Hermes/Thoth) Sets himself up as the God of all knowledge and History.... But still never having ever created shtt!
      Now the Greek Olympians are declared the most supreme.... While they were really nothing but rapest thieves murders and changers of history....
      And that's History in a nut shell... Two cultures with very similar stories.

    Greek vs Egyptian mythology
    Erebus= Osiris
    Nyx aka Nox= Isis
    Hypnos= Horus
    Zeus= Set aka Seth
    Maia= Amathaounta
    Hermes= Thoth
    Hera= Nephys
    Hades= Anubis
    Amut= Cerberus
    Lucifer aka Amenadiel= Amon Ra
    Ouroboros= Apep aka Apophis
    However in Greek mythology this would mean Hera seduces Erebus and gives birth to (Hades/Anubis)... Who isn't really her husband Zeus's younger brother but is indeed the son of (Erebus/Osiris). And after Zeus and the Titans kill (Erebus/Osiris), (Zeus/ Seth) will raise the child from a far... Keeping (Hades/Anubis) away from the rest of the Olympians and to domain of his true father (Erebus/ Osiris) in the Underworld, so that he may never learn truth that he isn't the younger brother of Zeus but is indeed child of (Erebus/Osiris) and (Hera/ Nephys). But even Erebus's own pet dog (Cerberus/Amut) stays back to eventually serve the son (Hades/Anubis) of his former master (Erebus/Osiris). (Hera/ Nephis) has (Hypnos/Horus) place a sleep spell on (Zeus/Seth) not once but twice...in attempt to avenge his father. (Erebus/Osiris) is brought back from the dead and commanded his serpent the (Ouroboros/Apophis) to wage war upon all of Egypt... But (Zeus/Seth's) son Thoth turns it around and directs the great serpent upon the God of the sun (Lucifer/Amon Ra)... (Hermes/ Thoth) son of (Zeus/Seth) blames Erebus and his family for going after one of the most high (Lucifer/Amon Ra) God of the Sun... because of which The command for Erebus to be forever emprisoned was set out.. (Erebus/Osiris) and most of his Greek children were then cast into (Pandora's Box) to be forever sealed away...

    From my readings and teachings of the matter many years ago B.G. (Before Google). Horus was the child of Nefti which was Seth’s Wife which initiated the beef and was also the reason he wanted Horus dead. The irony was that when Seth chopped Osiris in pieces he lost his genitals in the Nile and was the only piece she couldn’t find. Which is why she needed Thoth to make him a new one. 😂

      It wasn’t Osirs fault either for sleeping with Seth wife. She found him in the garden off the wine and disguised herself as Isis and engaged him sexually. Once he realized it was too late.

    What if all these mythological beings were actual people at some point of time but, since their actions were so great, they were perceived as gods by the people. The battles that took place between Horus and Set were based off of two tribes that would be the precursor to the Egyptian empire. Then of course as time went on, the story became more more “god” like so to speak that the Egyptians just kept that idea treated the those tribe leaders as gods.

    Funny how the "last supper" of Osiris and how he is betrayed someone (his brother) at the dinner table, became the story of the "last supper" of Jesus, who is betrayed by one of his brothers at the dinner table?
    www.eoht.info/page/Last+Supper
    I didn't make this connection, until after I had read the "last supper" described by Plutarch, Gerald Massey, and Dorothy Murdock. Some future day we'll come to realized how the Bible, is based on the Egyptian Book of the Dead, which itself is based on astronomical (e.g. rising Orion constellation, etc.) and geological movement (e.g. Nile flood, etc.,), and laugh about it.

    • @highlyopinionated5611
      @highlyopinionated5611 4 года назад

      He isn't. Egyptian Mythology is just so old that it was 'rebooted' several times, with parts of the story changing, depending on the political situations of the time. At its core, the story is an allegory for unification war between the south/upper egypt, represented by Horus, and the north/lower egypt, represented by Set. Osiris was originally not even a part of it.

  • @judacris25

    Ok, this dude left off the best myth between Horus and Set's fights: The cabbage myth. If he isn't going to tell you then I will.
    Basically it's another one of Horus and Set's fights. Ennead, one of the deities, got so tired of their bullshit that it told them to just chill out for a while. Since Set is still a little bitch, he came up with a plan to try and drive out Horus through humiliation. So, he decided to throw a party, inviting Horus who, for some reason, came along. Set managed to get Horus drunk, took him to another room, and raped the shit out of him.

    Now apparently Horus still had some sort soberness still with him, and somehow caught Set's semen with his hands. Next morning, Horus goes to Isis to tell her what happened, to which, according to some sources, she literally fucking cuts off his hands. She then gets a pot, and tells him to wank it (despite not having hands) so his semen collects in the pot.
    Isis ends up finding through a gardener that Set, God of Chaos and other disasterly stuff, really fucking loves lettuce. So they lubricate some lettuce Horus's semen, and Set eats it. He then goes to the divine court with Horus and proceeds to tell all of the divine judges "lmao i fucked Horus" and for some reason everyone believes him.
    Thoth, apparently the only smart one, knows that Set is most likely bullshitting. So he decides to call out the semen from Horus through the top of his head. However a golden disk appeared on Seth's head instead, which is basically saying his forehead got pregnant. Set ends up getting embarrassed and fucks off for a while. Then he comes back and fights some more, and the cycle continues.
