  • This 1969 Gibson EB-2D Bass is the thunky '60s bass we've always wanted. With only 2,000 ever made, this is a rare but beautiful bass with a unique pickup configuration and some truly wacky wiring inside. We talk about frying eggs, someone called "Tubby," and whether or not we should hire a bassist on this week's episode of TLP.

Looks like the Peter Hook (Joy Division, New Order) bass. Cool sound!

Bass frequencies can't be boosted in a passive circuit. The switch either cuts lows or not, utilising the full bass response of the pickup. There is an inductor in the circuit at all times.

It doesn’t have the string damper. (I have the same bass).

what strings do you use with this bass?

@@massimomunitello4716 I had flatwound custom-made strings. I remember the original Gibson strings were made in Germany and were very thin flatwounds. The gauges I ordered were 0,35-045-0,65-0,85. They work very well. The action is maybe a little too high for my taste but if I lower it, it starts to buzz. I don’t recall the original specs of the strings but I think I got it pretty close. They used to come in an orange box.

@@orwedon do you think the Rotosound rs77s 40-90 are good? Now I have the d'addario 45-100, but they don't convince me.

@@massimomunitello4716 I had very bad experience with Rotosounds on this bass. I had put roundwounds and they caused quite a bit of fret wear. I don’t like them. But I’ve never tried their flatwounds. The size 40-90 is fine. I think that D’Addario or Ernie Ball are pretty good. Why don’t the D’Addario convince you? A long time ago I had put nylon wound and the sound was not good. So all in all, my advice is flatwounds...never roundwounds.and I think that the E string at .100 and G at .45 is a little too much. Remember flatwounds have more area than roundwounds so they have more tension. This is something you should be very very careful with. Remember that it’s a short-scale with a glued neck. They can last for many many years if not subjected to too- much tension. Let me know what you’re going to do.

@@orwedon I think that in the uncertainties, the right compromise is given by the DR Lo-Rider in Nickel 45-100 or 40-95. I need versatile strings because I play rock'n'roll and alternative rock.

Ooooooohh an old bass from 1969 when everything was perfect!
🙄Big F deal!… these basses had a tubby weird sound- that if you didn’t EQ it the right way, it sounded like fwampy muddy poo..
and they’re for short scale tiny people… _(because I can’t say mdjts here)_
The 2013 Midtown editions are long 34” scale, built better, and probably Half the price…
but go ahead, hype it up RUclips,… Romanticize the heck out of it.. shoot these way up in price! ahhhh marketing gotta love it 👍🏻

any bass sound bad if you dont eq it properly. And short scale basses have nothing to do with short people 😂
