Thank you for having this discussion. As an educator (not in SK) it’s so important for a teacher to feel safe and secure in their job to be able to teach properly. I have seen many teachers just be crushed under the stress and to think of having to deal with parents suing you at the same time is horrible. I hope SK teachers get the help and support they deserve because nobody goes into teaching for the money. The pay is low compared to what teachers are tasked with which is teaching the future generations. Most teachers teach because they love working with children. Their is a lack of teachers everywhere and people should really ask themselves why?
We have the same issues in the US, and we have a lack of teachers because it's so stressful now. Older teachers are retiring early and there are not enough young, new teachers coming along to replace them.
The fact that teachers need to be accessible 24/7 is so concerning...
shouldn’t they have time limit and days unavailable?, this is weird
Im shock that human basic right for teachers is such a big problem in Korea. My students’ parents know my number and email but they respect my personal time. It’s up to me if I reply or not outside teaching hour. If student is misbehaving and I could not handle him/ her, student affair department will intervene and discipline the child with the parents involvement. In short, it shouldn’t be this hard if students, parents, and teachers respect the rights of each other. The school and the government must be above of it all, ensuring that each side could practice their rights.
Teacher has become a challenging job now, why? The regulation of child abuse make a teacher lost the respect and they become vulnerable. But we need the protection for the teacher and the student.
As you mentions guys, not so many people want to become a teacher because of it.
You have a good point. The regulation of child abuse is misused by their parents. OF COURSE, when the teacher scolds and punishes the student emotionally, that's the true problem for the teacher. However, when the student does misbehavior things like ignoring the teachers and hitting them and the teacher punish the student, that's definitely student's fault. But many parents would misuse it. Why? Some parents would say "why that's my son, my son wouldn't do that." 100%
@@skybus6 it's a sad truth that we must admit
Dr. Oh is not to be blamed. That's for sure.
But I think her TV program does have some unintended impacts on parents because usually people are not really interested in the essence of what a renowned expert say; they take from the expert's comments only what they already agree, not the whole message of that expert.
Dr. Oh's TV program and her way of discipline, therefore, could UNINTENTIONALLY reinforce viewers' (parents') distorted and selfish belief in their way of raising their child.
omg…the red lady just talking without any proper pause…
It’s just not worth being a teacher. You don’t get paid enough and the kids are just awful. They all lack empathy! The kids and the adults.
