This is probably my favorite video to date from this channel, and here's why. The transitions were great, the explanation of how everything works, the math behind it all. I absolutely loved how Wren got in contact with the guy who made it originally! Then he was a faced with a problem and POWERED through it, multiple times! Absolutely amazing work Wren! I love you guys, keep up the amazing work!

Well you see, after the great and final Peter escaped Wren kidnapped CMike before extracting his DNA, making thousands of clones with this DNA, however due to the fact that Wren used a cheaper form of the cloning programme used on Peter, these new CMikes have less brain cells causing them to die far more often. Being cautious doesn't protect you from the unexpected.
Maybe he isn't, but if I were in his shoes I wouldn't wanna see my wife get either run over by somebody or lose control of the bike in some way (wet road, small rocks on it making you lose traction) and then get serious head injuries because she wasn't wearing a helmet.
And since this is America where the whole concept of separate bicycle lanes isn't really worked out a lot (if at all, unlike us Dutchies who basically have a separate bicycle path next to pretty much every single road except highways) these kinds of accidents are far more likely to happen.
I was actually glad to see CMike wearing knee and elbow protection (and possible a helmet but I didn't see it on cam) when he crashed with the OneWheel. He got away with (what looked like) no injuries. Wren wouldn't wear those and would've had bruises and scratches all over the place.
Vel0city well I can live with scratches I don't really get bothered by those....in fact i once ran into a car on my roller blades (my mistake entirely and I have learned from it ;) ) and guess what? in order to avoid injuries I would have had to have knee and arm protection EVERYWHERE. but I am just say helmets and knee pads often give you a false sense of protection it's better to be cautious and not feel safe then not be cautious and feel safe. my opinion.

Nonetheless a great try, but also not much special, because retrofitting parts is the easy part. Finetuning, integrating en durability is the real complex part. (Knowing from building a electric moped myself).

dude I know this is a bit late but In the small aluminum gear pulley thing there's a place to screw onto the shaft. if you sdrill the shaft so the screw in that aluminum piece can go in to then it would work. and also to fix the wheel all you need to do is put a brand new spoke in and tighten it to fix it's true

And regenerative breaking, it can add -like- 3, 5, 7% or whatever, depending. Funny thing is when I see $7000 bikes without it (there are many and people actually buy them, LOL).
Wonder if something like a car alternator could be added to the front wheel to charge the battery while the bike is in motion.
they call that regenerative braking, and they call it that because it adds a large amount of resistance. so the bike would be way too hard to pedal, and no one would use it.
the only time you might use it would be if you were going downhill or coasting to a stop... so if there was a switch on the bars that would let you turn regen on and off, that could be cool. but like the other dude said, it adds a very tiny amount to total run time; so using it on and off like that would give you very very little regeneration.
in other words, not worth the trouble.
A (large) loss to heat and in the conversion process (back to battery), unfortunately! What to do. :f

i WOULD worry about battery cooling/venting for the enclosure. high amp discharge 18650's get hot when using a constant draw.

I'm so pissed that they don't tell you how they solve the issue of the regenerative braking!

It's not regenerative braking , it's just normal braking. The ESC has a feature to brake when you let off the throttle. It has this feature because that ESC is normally used on remote controlled aircraft.
Now the fix to this is really simple you just program the ESC . And the programming does not involve any coding or anything it's just done directly on the ESC . You'll hear a sequence of beeps from the ESC which will let you know what setting it's at and you just select your preferred requirements using the throttle as a navigation tool .
This fix literally takes like 5 seconds so that's probably why he didn't include it in the video.
ESC is also used on RC cars
Some VERY basic engineering problems that could have been solved in minutes took 2 weeks to sort out? REALLY!?

At least by how you've just described it... you couldn't be more wrong. Care to elaborate? Gasoline car engines are typically about 30% efficient where as charging batteries is more than 90% efficient. There's literally no way gas costs less than electricity.
Tm m if "at least quadruple more" is not a generalization, I don't know what is. Charging a battery can cost 4 times more than gasoline? uhm.. no. just no. And sure you could DIY a battery sized for a car (athough I don't know why that matters). Its the exact same thing just scaled up and there are plenty of people right here on youtube who have done it.
Won't lie, just putting a pulley on a bare shaft doesn't sound a bit iffy: I would have checked if there isn't some keyed solution, or use a taper clamp bush instead.
