This key is also for valet parking. When you give plastic key to the parking personal glovebox and the truck will still be locked for security. Only when you open the car with main key those functions will be available again.
The old Audi s3 use to have one and it’s called a service key so your car will start and work but it won’t let the car go faster than 30mph it was so you had peace of mind when your car was being serviced the people working on it wouldn’t race the car around as it won’t go past 30 mph 😁

It won’t unlock the trunk or glove box and it has a speed limit. Although I never knew it’s referred to as a “surfer” key, especially if you live in the mountains. Lol. Oh well.
This is a well known thing in New Zealand and thieves target them for this exact reason, they break the window enter the glove box and drive your car away. It's that we'll known the police car dealers and insurance companies ask you to remove it from your car, also as far as I know the key has no limitations apart from keyless entry

Champagne or gold is good or maybe the chameleon color that just puts a hint in with the black rims like outlining it to make em pop & chameleon emblems! I would either keep it in a safe part of your wallet or with a friend that you can call instead of a tow truck. Hiding it on your car is a bad idea. If your car is stolen because you left the key with it you might run into a fight with insurance.

Correct. This key is used if you lose both of your key. You should not keep the key in the car, only the fob part. Keep the key at home in a safe place. Then you can get it if you lose both keys.

I just bought a Q7, the salesman gave me the keys and said the black key was a temporary emergency key that is made to break after a couple of uses. He said they used to have a card key that looked like a credit card that was only good to use once. I don’t know, he seems to be knowledgeable about Audis, I just can’t imagine what scenario that would be needed for. Mine doesn’t have the holder though, only the key because I have the switchblade type key.

The plastic Key is also useful if you are out surfing and need to lock your car and hide it under the rear fender/bumper or take it in the water with you, which you can't do with your REMOTE Key for obvious reasons and as anyone can open it if you hide it in the bumper. You just need to make sure you leave your REMOTE key at home and not in the. car. Otherwise you need to have a lock box and attach it to something far enough way so you car wont pick it up to open it! HAPPY SURFING!!
I have an Audi now , but many years ago use to have a Ford Expedition that had at the door 4 numbers bottoms keys for a code , so you can hide the key inside do your activity ,like surfing and have piece of mind not to lose the key.
I had a similar height difference side-to-side on my Audi A4 B8 2010. I replace springs and shocks all around and then even swapped everything to the opposite side; I reset all the suspension bolts and even took to a suspension specialist. They couldn't find anything wrong and just blamed 'build varience'. I ended up cutting down the height of the high, rear corner rubber pad the spring sits on and that helped a fair bit. If anyone has any other better solution is love to know the cause and fix.
That key can be used also to lock your trunk. It is used when you have valuables in your trunk and you are giving your car to a Valet Parking. With that key you can lock trunk, back seats that can be open, etc. VW use that key as well. But good that you show the function of the third key etc. Thanks

Well, the guy at audi dealer told be the black keys main function is just for copy keys if you lose your main, and he warned me about trying to lock/unlock the door with the plastic key as it is prone to break. epsecily if the lock don't turn smoothly.
On your everyday key and spare key if you push the button on the back the silver piece comes out just like that Black third key and you can use to unlock 🔓 the door...

You know if you have the key in the door and hold it in the unlock position the windows and sunroof will open and will close if you hold it in the lock position.

Simple Answer NOT!!! If you keep that Flat Key in you car as he did, You Are a Complete IDIOT! It's called a valet key (its also your RESERVE Key), NEVER Keep The Flat Part (key) in You Car!!! Slide the 2 pieces together and you can give it to the valet (keep your personal Key Fob to yourself)

That’s for valet my boy. You give that key to them. Essentially it can do everything except open the glove compartment or trunk of your car.
It can certainly open the glove box.
It can start the car. Once the car is on you can pop the trunk…..

There is one massive peice of information that this key does that you have not mentioned.
One side is lower because of spring height. If you have adjustable coilovers, you can level it. You’ll need an alignment after.

DONT USE THIS KEY TO OPEN THE CAR IF ARENT IN TROUBLE, the plastic key is lasting only for 4-5 uses then it will break.

Activity key. Can lock your master key in the boot/trunk and you take that key to the beach or on water sports so you don’t damage the electronic key.
If your key is in the trunk, anyone can jump in and start your car and take off, so not good advice

I have an Audi now , but many years ago use to have a Ford Expedition that had at the door 4 numbers bottoms keys for a code , so you can hide the key inside do your activity ,like surfing and have piece of mind not to lose the key.
I had a similar height difference side-to-side on my Audi A4 B8 2010. I replace springs and shocks all around and then even swapped everything to the opposite side; I reset all the suspension bolts and even took to a suspension specialist. They couldn't find anything wrong and just blamed 'build varience'.
I ended up cutting down the height of the high, rear corner rubber pad the spring sits on and that helped a fair bit.
If anyone has any other better solution is love to know the cause and fix.

That key can be used also to lock your trunk. It is used when you have valuables in your trunk and you are giving your car to a Valet Parking. With that key you can lock trunk, back seats that can be open, etc. VW use that key as well. But good that you show the function of the third key etc. Thanks

Hi mate, my Audi at the beginning used to make a buzzer noise when I my headlights were on and I turn of the ignition which used to remind me.
Thieves also know about the "secret" key. Keep that in mind if it's sitting in your glove box.
@@zacharyshepard104 you can certainly drive the car with a valet key, in whole. Many of the Audis from this generation got stolen because people found out that the owners would leave the whole valet key in the unlocked glove box.

You can lock your regular key in the boot and take the plastic key when you go to the beach for a swim. Just tie the plastic key to your boardshorts or bikini and you can open the car after your swim.

Mercedes has this secret key too and came in useful when I had issues with accessing the boot.

Well, the guy at audi dealer told be the black keys main function is just for copy keys if you lose your main, and he warned me about trying to lock/unlock the door with the plastic key as it is prone to break. epsecily if the lock don't turn smoothly.

You know if you have the key in the door and hold it in the unlock position the windows and sunroof will open and will close if you hold it in the lock position.

It's called a valet key (its also your RESERVE Key), NEVER Keep The Flat Part (key) in You Car!!!
Slide the 2 pieces together and you can give it to the valet (keep your personal Key Fob to yourself)
