What are g"gig ops??
That's pretty screwed up of Uber not to make it IMMEDIATELY CLEAR to us that we need to get specific rideshare insurance in order to qualify to drive for them. They just asked for a picture of my insurance card and approved me. Didn't tell what type of insurance it needed to be. So doesn't that technically mean that Uber is operating in an illegal manner?

Thanks for the great info that improved my understanding, Dylan. I believe it's known as a "Rideshare Endorsement." And it's not just a few bucks. So far, I'm finding my rate doubling! I'm exhausted from signing up w/L & U, and doubly exhausted from hunting for insurance that will make ridesharing worthwhile for me!

Well the deductible is what matters. You may be covered, but at what price IF you get into an accident?
Your deductible comes into play when you caused the accident. If the other driver was at fault their insurance covers you at zero cost to you. If the other driver was uninsured Uber’s uninsured coverage kicks in and your deductible is reduced to reduced a lower amount of around $200 depending on your State law.
Is it mandatory? Or can you drive without added insurance

I stop doing ride-share driving as of 2 weeks ago and by viewing this video I had a non incident doing Uber, UberEats, Lyft and Postmates
I mean to say that I did this driving since 2014 and did not really think about how much I was breaking my insurance rules I am thankful for finding this video. If I ever decide to drive commercial for money I will make sure I have the right driers license and insurance on my personal vehicle, thanks for this video.

In California, all I know so far is geico progressive in Allstate, decover, Uber drivers and my insurance doubled not $10 more and I had nothing on my record, and I'm a good driver period so just to let you know, I have Allstate in my insurance double and I purposely went to Allstate because formally I had. Triple-a insurance and triple-a does not cover right. I did so because I was gonna drive. I went to Allstate because they do cover. Uber drivers said at a very price amount period I believe I called the other one I remember if it was geico or progressive, and they were even more money than Allstate and I just found out starting in March 2024. All insurance are gonna go up over 30 to 35%. It has been a bill has been passed. I get ready for your rights to double again
This info is so important - I just got dropped from my insurance because of a fender bender that happened ON PERSONAL TIME. the only way to be reinstated is to prove I have been deactivated (on lyft). Finding how to do that, so far...impossible. I'm deleting my account which took forever to find out how to do that. it's obvious - if you get in an accident - you are fucked. time to find another gig.

What is considered a rideshare app by insurance companies? Does it involve solely transporting a person like Uber or lyft? Or does it extended to just carrying items like Amazon flex or doordash or any other delivery involving packadges, boxes, food, bags etc

I am now driving for both Uber and Lyft and I saw in my insurance policy “rideshare endorsement” so I’m going to look into that because I want to be safe than sorry as well as my passengers. As headmaster of an educational ministry I'lll step out to say ,
sucks to suck ,but most life problems involve multiple phone calls with lots of hold music.
also I'm looking at this video right now because Uber just emailed me aletter saying that I have no deductible and plenty high enough coverage for a third party and me in an accident while on platform.
So yeah I'm very curious as to whether or not I actually need to be forking out any extra money for insurance.

Thanks! To my knowledge it might be easier to keep it under one policy, because to my understanding the rideshare insurance is an extension on your personal policy, so you would end up essentially paying for two policies and wouldn't need Geico anymore. Just my thoughts! But let me know what they say if you decide to ask them.

Some insurance agencies just tell you you have to get commercial insurance to be able to do ride sharing jobs it's just is a little more costly
