  • In digital audio, the clock frequency is an essential factor, as it creates the correlation between the audio bits and the time reference. Unfortunately, the clock frequency is not always as stable as desired.

      And what's the difference in comparison of jitter values of parts per million and FS? What are they different with? And is Rubidium clock much more exact?

    30% of this video was beyond me but I stuck it out and I glad I did!
    I recently purchased a used FFUC. A Presonus AB1818vsl supplies digital audio via ADAT. Some channels present scratchiness in the signal. This video helped me understand why.
    Unfortunately there is nothing I can do about this problem. There are many other mitigating factors.
    I love my RME and now see the problem could be worse.

    Brillant video. I love the ADI-2. Just sounds right. I'm not one who believes in only measurements to buy a product, but just so happens the RME ADI-2 sounds great.

    very interesting! I've heard other manufacturers quote picos/femtos values, you call it sampling jitter, is that something you have control over beyond AD/DA chip selection? If no then the other manufacturers are just using jitter as a cheap / meaningless marketing term similar to some TV manufacturers quoting 720Hz refresh rate 4-5 years back!
    Also in a dedicated DA, say connected via SPDIF, the output jitter would be totally reliant on the digital signal carrying a perfect clock without something like SteadyClock, wouldn't it?
    Would love to see more of these technical videos! Maybe also about your preamps / headphone amps and their development background! You could even do a video on the FPGAs you use, without giving away too many secrets, of course!

    Can jitter affect the quality of recording transients in a normal computer setup? What factors can make transients sometimes muddy and distorted?

    So much milage out of our RME products. I read on a forum the other day on some person using your digital mixer in the unit as a summing mixer for his DAW. The shared results of the cubase mixdown vs. the totalmix mixdown were interesting. Would you consider this to be a practical use of your software and if that is the case can you make a video on this topic and how to set it up?.

    Hello questions I just bought the Rme babyface pro fs I'm using it for mixing and mastering in my home studio should I buy the RME ADI-2 DAC FS Ultra-Fidelity PCM/DSD 768 kHz DA Converter? As far as quality goes if I buy it would it improve the quality when it comes to mastering a track?

    I understand that with the 800 series there was an LTC (timecode) option, is there any chance of integrating it in future firmware, I could see DURec being very useful for cart based location sound recording.

    and what about you say for performance if i have a external clock like antelope isochrone? I run my ff ucx bnc (wc) and ff pulse16 via bnc (wc),thay are both connect via adat, and now i think to buy a adi 2 dac fs connect with spdif

    If I had one device with Steadyclock FS (for example M-1610 pro) paired with another RME device without steadyclock (for example a RayDAT, or MADI FX) how would this affect performance? Would it be preferable to set the m-1610 pro as master clock?

      Yes, this is possible if you want to use the best possible system clock.

      Absolutely it is! They can literally replicate full analogue circuits! Technically, it enables direct hardware replication! Imagine a dedicated box that used multiple FPGA to create Synths/Reverb units/Etc that’d be a game changer!

    Are they same or is the UCXii the latest and greatest conversion?

    So what is the jitter level of my ADI 2 Pro 1st generation that I bought 1500€ and that you improved one or 2 year after?
    I Maybe could sent you my interface and you change the converter to improve it too? Is this possible? I think that it should be possible, because RME is great!

      As you can see on the input state, MADI is shown there. So it can't be a UFX II ;-)

      It's true that SteadyClock FS offers better performance compared to SteadyClock. BUT this doesn't mean that your UFX+ has an outdated or bad jitter reduction. In fact we have shown in this video that even a Fireface UC designed in 2009 has a BETTER better signal to noise ratio than a modern DAC with the AK4490 chip, which is one of the most sought after chips in the premium segment. Therefore enjoy your UFX+ as is it is - it's simply an amazing interface with excellent conversion.

    I have owned RME products for over 12 years. However, When I compare and listen to the signal processed by the Babyface FS to one using the Denafrips Iris D to D there is no comparison. The Denafrips Iris cleans the signal significantly more and turns the stream into a more coherant significantly clearer sounding track. Hence there is still room for improvement to the steady Clock FS.
    Denafrips Iris is their least expensive D to D. They have the GAIA which is substantially better than the Iris. Also in the past I owned Auralic DA. It was also more detailed than what I here through the Steady Clock FS product.The Auralic and GAIA use OCXO clocks "Oven Controlled" clocks.
