I remember back in the day when you first started your RUclips career and you bought a Mahindra. You made some videos on tractor buying advice and they all painted the Mahindra as the best there was and you sounded like a Mahindra salesperson. The weight was so important and so was getting a tractor that did not use DEF or the dreaded diesel P filter, the lifting capacity, and much more. It is so funny to see how you, like most have evolved. You share a lot of good info and show that experience and considering our own personal needs help us make each good buying decisions. My first new tractor was a compact tractor that I bought to bushhog between Christmas trees. I hated that tractor because It was an economy tractor with few features. I had another tractor so no big deal. Never had a problem with it and sold it 15 years later for what I paid for it. Looking back it was A GREAT tractor that was able do much more than it should have, a1986 IH 284.

Has shuttle shift improved? The idea was amazing and in 2016(I think it was) I talked my dad into getting an LS with shuttle shift. When it worked, it was great. I don't know if we had a lemon or what but LS sent out mechanics and even a higher up tech guy from the factory to try and fix the intermittent shuttle shifting problem. It would just randomly stop working and just sit there and beep error codes and refuse to let you drive it back to the barn. They replaced the full wire harness, the brain, the shifter motor, you name it. Finally one of the mechanics showed me to just grab the rod going to the shuttle shift handle, with a pair of vice grips, and push in the clutch peddle and turn it to force it into gear manually, just to get back to the barn. So next time it happened, I did that and it worked. I drove it back to the barn and disconnected all the shifting garbage and my dad welded a handle directly to the shuttle shift rod that runs down to the transmission and we have been using it basically as a manual transmission ever since. I was thinking going TYM hydrostat with a smaller garden sized tractor for myself since our LS is a bit too big for our smaller garden. Though after watching your 574 in action I may just upgrade the size of our garden instead. lol

A cab tractor would be nice, but we are in and out of the woods too much for it to work for us. If buying new definitely add a 3rd function and 2 or 3 sets of rear service ports. It is cleaner on your machine with OEM and you can work into your financing in most cases.
Also, a front end loader that has some kind of quick release whether JDQA, SSQA or Yanmar's system. Either that or buy a used tractor at such a good price that you can factor in the $1k to $2k conversion from pin on to quick attach and you still have a good deal.

I thought I’d have trouble with my cab in the woods, but I’m in and out of the woods almost every day and if you’re careful it’s ok. I’ll say this, I have tried to trim back all the limbs throughout the trails I use.

@hhamilton1970 Maybe someday, we will get a small tractor with a cab. One thing that I forgot to mention on our Grand L is that we got the option for a hydraulic SSQA. It is not a must-have, but it is sure nice to just press a button to put on and release you FEL attachments. We aren't getting any younger, so we decided to add it. LOL

Agreed, before ordering mine, i asked my dealer how much the factory hydraulics cost, compared to having him add them in a couple years as i could afford a grapple, and top & tilt . Hands down go factory. Agreed again on the cab, but living further north, for different reason, if i move snow i don't want my end caused by hypothermia. A/C is nice but not why i got the cab. And TYM is offering a totally dressed out with all the options for 20 grand less than if it were painted green. All while being able to connect to the more available SSQA loader attachments instead of the by nature more expensive JDQA system. After checking it all out, and kind of understanding the things available, one wonders how they sell any green or orange equipment besides decades of people thinking those were your only options.

That’s right…the old saying goes “you can’t turn a cruise ship on a dime” Green paint has been around for so long, its engraved in generations of thinking. I appreciate you watching and taking the time to comment 👍

Cab is a must for me. I live in the UP and blow snow all winter, wouldn’t consider an open station.

I think a quick hitch is a handy thing to have but, sometimes you cant use it with all of your implements. One thing as a safety factor i put on all my tractors regardless, was an overrunning clutch on the pto

Even the little sun compact tractors are coming with an SSQA these days. It’s a must have feature for any tractor to me.

Yeah, my T224 doesn't have that and I wish it did. It is an option on that tractor, at the time I just didn't get it. Basd call on my part.
