    Not sure if you even wind up using it, but funny enough, Iron Bundle doesn’t actually learn Surf in gen 9. For that matter, the only way it can deal meaningful water damage (bar stuff like Mimic) is Hydro Pump - probably a balancing decision for VGC as Surf Iron Bundle would enable some pretty strong strategies.

    Popping in at Lorelei for commentary on 20:06 . Given you were forced to encounter Onix anyway, would KOing a single one have improved Lorelei feasibly? It would both put you over the DRT of 48, while not forfeiting your badge boosts during that Dewgong set-up. Coulda saved you the need for mimic this early. Tuning back in now.

    33:33 I'm in full agreement with this strategy. Of course it's always nice to see the Pokémon perform at their optimum but I think you need to be realistic with what you can achieve in the time you have. Your time could probably be better spent not doing 9 Machoke runs or whatever.
    For me what is more important than that is:
    1) The quality of the videos, in terms of the narratives you create, the storytelling methods etc.
    2) Quantity is of course nice but noting we are aware you can only produce what you have time to produce!
    3) Always producing legitimate runs. You obviously share certain ways you modify the games to support consistency which is great but it is important to trust that you are not modifying the game beyond that which you are telling us. I can imagine there is a temptation to do otherwise to support speedier production of your videos but I think that trust between us and you is vital to what you're doing!
    Thanks for a great year of content and looking forward to what's next!

    34:15 I totally agree with your new mindset. Your channel feels like a democratization effort for the solo running community, where you've laid the foundation for the more scientific part of the community with both your runs in general AND with your clear attitude of giving back to the community with your software.
    As a result having your runs as a "baseline" for an optimized run with that Pokémon makes a lot of sense, especially when you yourself have noticed that doing half a dozen runs to shave off small amounts of time isn't fulfilling/compatible with your production schedule.

    I'm pretty sure it's not possible for this year because you probably have the videos lined up, but I would be really cool to a Victini backport for New Year, your birthday or a Pokemon aniverssary.
    Also, could you please do a Yellow backport playlist? It's easier to check if you done something and I missed it (also would love if the Yellow Playlist got updated if it's not too much work). Also, Merry Christmas!
    EDIT on the Fearow: Don't put that much pressure on you for small mistakes like that. If a player error mistake happens like that I would just deduct the time from the end time. At most in a situation like this you could just "add back" some time to mimic opening the menu and using repel / full heal when you deduct the time if you want to be through, but I think in this case just cutting the time from the RNG is good enough.
    EDIT 2: You mentioned before from time to time how as you improve and find out new strategies you think some pokemon you done already could probably get a better time. You could from time to tipo do a "General update" video in which you just do a new run with a batch of old pokemon that you don't intent to revisit soon and do a single video highlighting the new discoveries, the new time and at the end updating the tierlist without having to produce a full video for each one. Not sure if it would be more work then it's worth, but it's an idea.
    EDIT: On the paradox theme, great tusk would be cool.
    EDIT 4: Backporting Slaking without Truant to show off his full power would be really cool too.

    Espathra was an excellent Metronome Only Pokemon.
    Iron Bundle blew it out of the water. It's decently bulky to allow enough rolls of Metronome in any given battle to get a decent move.
    Attack is high enough to be able to use physical moves in the early and mid game against most everything. Any neutral or effective special move was just immensely powerful.
    There were no trainers it struggled against beyond what I have come to expect from any Pokemon that only uses Metronome, and notably made short work of Koga, who graciously allowed me to Mimic Psychic off his first Venonat.
    In the end it beat Espathra by about 10-15 min in less than 4h, and, as a first, without reaching level 100.

    This is fine but I'm more interested in how good ole Delibird would do.
    Possible Level up set:
    Default - Present
    Level 10 - Peck
    Level 15 - Quick Attack
    Level 20 - Aurora Beam
    Level 25 - Drill Peck
    Level 30 - Ice Punch
    Level 35 - Agility
    Level 40 - Pay Day
    TMs/HMs:
    Bubble Beam because it learns Water Pulse but not Water Gun because it doesn't learn that and I think it would be neat to have something learn one of the water TMs in gen 1 but not the other. Ice Beam and Blizzard because it learns those moves as early as its debut gen.
    Body Slam, Take Down, Swift, Hyper Beam, Mimic, Rest, Double Team. Fly but not Surf because it never gets Surf. Flash because it gets Defog both moves play a similar role as HMs and both have been assigned the same HM number over the course of the series history.
    PS: Pay Day comes from an Event Delibird in gen 2. I put it as its final level up move because event Pokemon are meant to be special and also because that felt like the only fair way to incorporate the move.
    Happy holidays to you your wife and the team Scott. Daily videos have been a real treat.

    Didn't even know this was a pokemon, but I haven't played any mainstream games in forever and never finish fan games as I get busy and never come back to them. So I checked out bulbapedia for it, then saw other iron versions. Then saw this after seeing what electric terrain was, pincurchin, how about a run using this? Might be a good challenge, doesn't evolve, mostly solid stats but hp isn't very good, and speed is a snails pace.

    You know, often I argue against power creep in Pokémon being much of a thing. Because they generally give a lot of good moves, abilities and other tools so that strong mons from older generations remain strong, and so that people can use their favourites. (If you want to see real egregious power creep check out Fire Emblem Heroes) Then gen 9 happened, and gamefreak was like “Screw balance and especially screw the well designed singles meta game designed by our fans who put far more love and thought into than we did.” Iron bundle here is a good example of that philosophy.

    U know a way to have made present a way more fun move would be to have it to also 1/5 chance to OHKo a pokemon. Given that most OHKo moves are 30 percent accurate, having a move that does variable damage, heals or insta-kills sounds balanced. It could even say something like “*pokemon* is on the naughty list.”🤣

    I'm kinda surprised one of the most busted mons in gen 9, and the text definition of powercreep, didn't manage tier S, to be honest.
    Now I wonder how Fluttermane and Iron Valiant would do in gen 9. Or Roaring Moon.

    This is the first Pokemon I feel got assigned the wrong value for Special. I don't think Game Freak would give this Pokemon such high special in gen 1, there are plenty of Pokemon that got their special raised due to the split in gen 2 so I don't agree with just because it is primarily a special attacker it would have the higher one. At 510 Iron Bundle is the second highest stat total in gen 1, only behind Mewtwo. if it was at 434 (taking 60 sp def) then it would still be one of the higher base totals around where Starmie and Tentacruel are at (435) and would have been a more interesting playthrough imo.

    • @rhayden866
      @rhayden866 18 дней назад +1

      @@bettyunicorn6132 Wouldn't it make more sense then for there to be one that has higher attack? Gen 1 had a ton of quirks where special pokemon had higher attack. My real issue is more that it's base total is higher than all other gen 1s other than mewtwo, do you think they would have Iron Bundle as the second strongest pokemon?

    • @rhayden866
      @rhayden866 18 дней назад

    • @Lambs4lyf
      @Lambs4lyf 18 дней назад

      same thing at 20:45, you’ve badge boosted 6 times and your special is so much higher, dewgong’s defence is much higher than its special, even a surf would do a lot more damage than a drill peck.
      if you have all the numbers in your overlay, why not look at it, and think?

    UPDATE: Huh, high A-Tier (after a few more redos). Not bad.
    But Weedle? Boy, that will be a nightmare to witness.

    Tbh, bundle would be a lot worse without freeze dry, and that’s not a signature move, it’s coverage is just kinda bad. You probably could have given it ice punch in that place since they’re both 75 bp but not sure it would matter.
