When you go on holiday, what do you pack if you want to sketch while you are away? Do you create a holiday journal? In this film I am doing a quick flip through my concertina sketchbook from a grey week in Devon. I'll share what I took and some of the technique I used. It is far from perfect, but it brings back the sound of waves breaking and the tang of salt in the air. Let me know if you want a film about the image transfer technique I mention.

I seem to remember so many details when I draw or paint plein air. Even many years later, I am transported back right to the minute I started the painting. My advice to anyone is to take an extra few minutes to draw, paint where you are. It really does act as a total memory camera. My lovely hubby isn’t keen to sit there for too long while I paint so if time is tight I do the sketch and take lots of photos, so I can apply the wash once we get home. It still works although perhaps not as well. Thank yo7 for sharing your journal Liz, I really appreciate the peek into your holiday.
I struggle using a water brush, can you do a video on how to get them to act like a brush. I have many of them but simply cannot paint with them.

I just love what you've done with those envelope pockets in this one! And those two paintings also happen to be my faves this time around. I can just feel those humid clouds on the cliff walk!

Oh wow, Liz - what a precious mememto have of your trip. I know we saw snippets of this while posted when you were away...but I loved seeing the whole thing at once and having you narrate your holiday. You paint more when you're "on vacation" than I do at home - I've got to get cracking! 😁 Yes, please, to the tutorial about image transfer! 😍 (OKAY - I just HAVE to ask - how much DID that glue stick cost?! I remember you referencing that in your FB post and it made me laugh!)

I loved the journal. Such a gray idea of how to document a vacation. More personal and memorable than a bunch of photos in your phone and much easier to look at again later. I loved the idea of the photo transfer. Did you say that you had a tutorial on youtube of how to do that?

Hi Liz! Great video about a beautiful sketchbook tour! I loved watching it. I especially liked the pocket page where you painted over the pocket. Nearly invisible If you don't know it. I as well would be delighted about learning how to transfer images. And I may have missed it in the tutorial clip but may I still ask:how do you make those pockets? They're such a great add-on!
