It's so interesting to hear people say the entrance tunnel is scary. I grew up going through that tunnel to get to the elevators on my walk to preschool and being a little kid I never thought anything of it. I felt like it was an adventure and a welcome alternative to walking up the huge hill on 187th st
I've been through 191st street on the 1 train a couple times when I visited New York in the late 2010s. It's pretty neat how deep it is being under a hill and how Broadway is at the bottom of the hill. To me, the 1 train is the simplest train route in the subway. Nearly a straight line, all local 24/7, using R62As, & mostly in Manhattan with the top 3 stations in the Bronx. I love the simplicity of it.
"This station was dirty, like a Pitkin R46"
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣😂😂😂😂DEAAAD
I thought the graffiti in the tunnel was part of the artwork. It's actually not bad.
Kudos on the sponsorship btw
I find the geological and topographic features of upper Manhattan and the Bronx to be very interesting. I think before urbanization, these areas were practically the southern extension of the Catskill mountain range. Rocks and boulders visible today in these areas are the exact same as.in the Catskills. Even the Bronx has a waterfall on the Bronx river! A common feature throughout the Catskills. Also, I heard there are ancient fault lines in the bedrock of Manhattan and especially in the Bronx where tunnels could not be dug, which is why you see elevated train lines in these areas today. Inwood park at the northern tip of Manhattan is like a magical place that connects you to the past, to the time of the Lenape Indians.
What about 145th street area
@@qjtvaddict 145 th st runs from Harlem river drive to the Riverbank State park. It is one of the original cross streets mapped in the commissoner's plan of 1811 that formed the original grid for the Island of Manhattan.
242nd is definitely my favorite stop on the 1 train. A really peaceful station with the og wood floors and right across from Van Cortland and a short bike ride to Yonkers
Same!
Same here but I lived at 238 so that was my go to station
My thoughts: probably a good chance of surviving a nuclear explosion if you're in the 191st st station at that depth. Pretty cool how it was created in a hill. Carving away at the bedrock when the tunnel was created over 100 years is certainly an engineering feat.
Huge Explosives were used to blow away the rocks.
I HAVE BEEN TELLING ALL THE RESIDENTS OF THIS AREA THAT SIR THAVE A NUCLEAR BUNKER IN THERE MIST
I lived in NYC for most of my life and I never visited 191 street ever. I was always on the East Side with the 4, 5, and the 6 lines. I didn't start exploring more of Manhattan until later in life and even then, I never been that far North on the West Side.
Yea understandable
The 1 train, king of the north. Much love from manhattan college at 242st
Living on the 1 line my entire life, I had to get on the 191 station because there was construction at Dyckman. That tunnel is something else
You should continue the least used station videos.
That is my plan.
Yay!!
Station Suggestion:
Bergen Street on the Culver Line (F, G)
You should talk about the station but also the fact that there’s an abandoned express platform located below the station.
It's on my list, but thanks for the suggestion anyway!
I live in 191st, I was waiting for this video for a while now
Congratulations on your sponsorship!
Thank you!
@@MysticTransit You're welcome!
Might I suggest a future video on the 181st or 190th street A/C stations? Very interesting entrances due to the topography of far upper manhattan and interesting internal station designs. 181st has always been my favorite with the original “SUBWAY” lamp and 1970s MTA globes.
I remember when the 1 used to skip this station. I also thought the graffiti in the tunnel was the artwork lol. It's been a few years since I used the Bway entrance. Can't wait for the video on Dyckman, this used to be my old neighborhood.
This is a really interesting series. I have visitied NY many times, but I have never been to this station.
Yes you should have Dyckman on the 1 and also look at 190th Street on the A should be looked at
He said in the video that Dyckman is on the list
Thanks!
Thanks for the super thanks!
OMG I have always hated that train station! I worked at a facility in the area and the first few times when I got out of work I would seriously get a freaking panic attack because I'm claustrophobic! It would be so packed with the teens getting out of school and taking the train! The elevators would be completely PACKED! I would pray it didn't get stuck or the kids wouldn't fight!! I started taking a cab to work! I never even knew about the Broadway entrance! I only thought the St.Nicholas entrance existed!
I grew up on Godwin Terrace and 230th street. So I'd like to see a video above the 231st street and Broadway station on the 1 line.
Yess i would love to see that! 231st once you get off is so full of life and people i live there
That tunnel is remarkably clean compared to when I was there last May. When I went through it there was only about a 2-3 foot wide section of pavement that wasn't covered in trash and in a few spots you had to step over trash/people lying there to go through. Definitely not a great entrance to the station
Also known as the 2nd hottest 🔥 station
What is the hottest?
@@interstate1335 14th St Union Square 4 5 6 I think
@@mescalita8 ok
I live in 191 street and my thoughts about the station is beautiful I like the graffiti and the artworks to the uptown part of the train station and also it's very fun to watch one trains flying by 191 street 40 mph 😮😊😮😊
As a person who lived on 137 and riverside said I like 191st it's like Manhattan and the Bronx together
Remember going into the station on the tunnel side, on the way back I used to street ( very steep hill to the elevator side). I was looking at an apartment and wanted to look at both entrances, figured I would not like the tunnel late at night
0:14 It's actually Fort George.
Bro that is the cleanest I’ve ever seen that tunnel 😭
Nice to see the elevators are upgraded. Back in the 80's they were small I used to walk there just to get a slice of pizza as a kid. Good memories
Do some queens stations.
I worked for MTA for 30 years the tunnel isn't dangerous it just it's not part of MTA so cleaners don't clean it it's private so who ever owned it doesn't care if they did it would be really nice
It's called Tunnel Street (for real) and is maintained by the Dept. of Transportation
Graffiti is no different than a dog pissing on a object to claim its territory. Taggers either need prison time or be made to clean off five times of the amount of tagging they were found guilty of committing.
Amen!
191st street station and Dyckman street are my two favorite stops uptown!
I've been here alot mostly because my cousin lives a few blocks from the station.
They should really add travelators to the 191 St entrance.
Awesome video
Thanks!
Love watching your videos and history 🔥🔥🔥. I haven’t been to that station in years 😮 since I was a messenger.
I take the one train everyday and don’t see 191 st on the map line and I’m like “where awn earth is dat??!?!”
the pitkin r46 got me laughing
ALL THAT GRAFFITI AT 1:58
Good work bro! If you haven’t already, can you do a video about fare evasion and your thoughts on it?
Just a nit picking question, but since you mentioned how many feet below street level... NYC is not flat, and street level changes. I wonder if this station is the lowest compared to sea-level?
Related fun fact, the highest point on Metro-Norths Hudson line is somewhere in the tunnel under Park Avenue
I was just there this weekend
St Nicholas AV?! We lived near St Nicholas and 155st when I was a little boy.(yea I'm old) We use to walk to the Polo Grounds....I don't remember much other than my Dad told me he took us only when they played the Dodgers...
Lexington 63rd st station is pretty deep underground too
2:47 nice to see that hope to see more in the future
Those elevators can get pretty crowded during rush hour!
4:55 subbed just because of this lol
Can u make a video about the two tracks at bedford-nostrand on the g line like where do they go please and thx 💚
We used to ride our bikes in that tunnel
Does anyone prefer this station or Chambers Street on the j and z line
I'm pretty sure no one prefers Chambers St.
@@MysticTransit true that
I do not prefer chambers street
That's another DIRTY station.....
It’s still ugly looking,at least it’s not going to collapse if a very small explosion occurs in the wrong spot
nice video
Thanks
Wow. Thanks for putting us on to Master Works. But also thanks for letting us know that there is an elevator entrance to 👀👀👀 avoid paying the fare. 🤫🤫 just like another station that shall remain nameless…. Yeah I know I just frustrated some people 🥴🥴🥴
Thanks! Amazing content.
Glad you liked it! I appreciate the Super Thanks!
168th street is also pretty cool
Can you do least used station on the n line?
Why isn't it on the thumbnail?3:13, Sorry for clicking it.
My home station, for a whopping 12 Years GAWDAMN lol❤️🤟🏽
Great station
2:32 I just don’t understand people who think about graffiti like that. I do actually, but you are all missing out on the great phenomenon in modern history. The art it goes over doesn’t have the culture graffiti has.
“Later down the line” 💀😅
My stop 100%
Some of the 1 stations probably have to be rebuilded because at some stations the gap is high.
Perfect as always
If the 1 keeps going deeper
It might find some diamonds
Also why do you call the D.
*That one?*
Mountain in Manhattan is crazy
You gotta do a video covering IRT 168th and 181st. Those are the most beautiful stations in the system.
I thought Roosevelt Island stop was deeper.
Do the most famous station next
Will we be getting a SIR train video?
This is how people can go missing .
Make a video on the 9 St station in Brooklyn (highest elevated)
He already did
Sounds like it's down in Hell. But then again, all of nyc is down in Hell.
Bro got a sponsor, les go
7th
This entire station was build through TNT explosives'.
When I catch u it's clip
Nice video, to bad the station is covered with graffiti, why not do a Mystical station video on 34th Street Penn Station on 7th and 8th Avenues they are good stations
This station got renovated in 2003-2006. It’s a shame it’s already starting to deteriorate.
It's a solid station, kinda like hell In the summer but i do admire the graffiti in the tunnels, it makes for better artwork in my opinion.
I remember when I went to the station is that crazy subway tunnel with a lot of graffiti
Do you know how they were able to build the station around the existing track in 1911?
St. Petersburg be laughing rn. but if we ignore the conflict of those countries St. Petersburg blows it to water
Beauty content yet again...congrats on your sponsorship!
The IRT Broadway-7th Ave Local #1 line is one of the most unique lines in the entire NYC subway system!!!
One video after another, GREAT!
Ur way of presenting these vids r too professional 🙌🏾💪🏾
👍
I haven’t been on the 1 train in over 20years . But as a kid all I wanted to do was to leave Long Island to be able to ride the subway lol 😂
I thought Roosevelt Island on the F is the deepest.
Me, too.👌
I thought Hudson yards was the deepest station in the system
The graffiti is shameful. What kind of people live in New York?
Algorithm
I don’t get the joke
This is lame nothing deep about this
Disgraceful
Dude, you rock I love the depth of your videos and you are so eloquent and consistent
Crazy how it was built in only 2 months yet the SAS is acting a fool
Thanks!
