Still my favorite show of all-time. I hope you two enjoy it, as well. It might seem slow at first. But I think you'll develop an appreciation for it as time goes on and you get more familiarized with the characters, and everything.
@@weebitreacts Two suggestions for both of your future reactions: Before Christmas 2023, please do check out and hopefully post your reaction to Cary Grant in "THE BISHOP'S WIFE" (1947) ; and closer to home "I KNOW WHERE I'M GOING" (1945) , a romance film that takes place (and was filmed) in the Scottish Hebrides.
It's so well written. The story is great but the character writing in this show is phenomenal. Everyone has so many layers and even the supporting cast written and acted so well. Yes its brutal at times but that makes it real, these are gangsters and they dont shy away from showing that in their actions and how they talk at times. That being said, they're human. Being a gangster is not all what they are they are very complex characters with believable motivations.
Joined over the strength of this one reaction. Really enjoyed this. Watching people who never have seen the show is one thing. Watching people people pick up the mafia culture off this show who have only have heard about it on TV is quite another. This is a great show. Great reaction guys! :)
You guys are in for a treat. Me and my bf heard of this from work and decided to watch the pilot. Needless to say we spent the next month or two binging it in our spare time. Left me with an obsession with the history of the mafia which I'm currently researching all the time
@@weebitreacts I'd 100% recommend it. From the old school sicillian mafia to the modern day drug cartels. Organised Crime has such a fascinating history (and brutal of course)
Well if you aren't blown away by the first episode, or perhaps even the first 4(?), stay tuned. The first season ends a lot differently than it starts. Then, a more dramatic change begins with season 2.
Tony definitely has a soft spot for animals, Lorna. You may find yourself connecting with him in spite of the heinous things he does. It can be maddening at first but you'll learn to live with it! I did 🤣
@@weebitreacts Mom's still asleep, was able to re-watch reaction. Colin picked up on so many running themes so quickly: The ducks being Tony's friends, that it gutted him when they left. "What do the ducks represent?" Is Colin a counselor of some kind?? And Carmela's self-righteous hypocrisy, profiting from Tony's crimes. Oh, this is going to be good!
Thanks for your openness - I know the language, accents, and cultureal differences present real hurdles. But hang in there, please, - this show is a pretty engrossing ride. A number of reactors do these two episodes at a time, and I think once you get a taste, you'll probably want to do the same as the show is somewhat addictive. So far, very well and i'm looking forward to watching with you. Peace -
I think the plan is to do 2 ep a week as it's easier time wise to sit down for just one episode and squueze it in as we both work full-time and have other commitments! Hopefully that will keep a good pace too 🙏
My Favorite TV Show of all Time, If you love that Mafia Stuff its a treasure, everybody knows Godfather 1 and 2 or Goodfellas but the Sopranos is sometimes very underrated
Weh hey! If I wasn't already in the middle of this series on Asia & BJ's channel I'd be here for it, I'll have to wait until they've finished and then catch up with yours, remember the good times and don't stop believing 👍
I must say I do sympathize with these two's difficulty with the New Jersey Mafia accents on the show because, while the girl has a totally adorable accent, I find the guy's to be almost impenetrable, I can only recognize about 20% of what he's saying. Don't get me wrong, I'm absolutely not criticizing him, I'm criticizing myself. I've always had a hard time with certain deep Scottish accents for some reason. But you can tell they're both good people and I hope they do well. Cheers!
Yay, another Sopranos reactor channel to watch! ❤ I'm watching from Finland. I must say, I'm really surprised how easy I find it to follow you guys' Glaswegian accent. I lived in Edinburgh for eight months almost twenty years ago. I remember thinking back in those days how much stronger/harder to understand the Glaswegian accent is when compared to Edinburgh accent 😅 PS Edinburgh rules 😂😂🤣
Love your Scottish accents I understand you guys just fine and even when I don't which is rare I get the gist of it. Watching you two from Washington, D.C. and may I just say Lorna is so cute.
This episode seems like every other TV series. It doesn't feel like Sopranos. As the series goes on and the seasons go on it becomes better and better and the most haunting and complexed and fun storytelling ever. Well after multiple viewings anyways. Season 6 B is a masterwork.
Keep watching ... you will come to love Tony and crew as much as the audience did at the time. To wet your feet on Italian-American social clubs, you MUST watch "The Godfather" 1 and 2 (skip three unless the audience calls for it) and "Goodfellas".
Oh, man....I wish I could watch The Sopranos without knowing a thing about it. I started watching 2 years into its run and it was just a massive sensation that spoilers were hard to avoid. I remember my neighbor would complain about me laughing so hard. And he's like, what are you watching? And I'm like: "The Sopranos." I rewatched it 3 years ago and it was even more amazing. 2 things to know: 1) The first episode was filmed in 1997, but the rest of Season 1 was filmed in 1998 (which is why some of the actors look different from Episode 1 to Episode 2. The show was inspired by creator David Chase's relationship with his mother. So it's not your usual mob show. Oh, and the theme song is sung by a British band from London. Enjoy! and stay unspoiled.
The gangster stuff isn't really front and centre, it's there but at a fairly low level...don't expect Goodfellas for six seasons...it's much more about family.
I think when it first came out, newspapers and magazines did little pieces about "how to speak Goombah"- which is actually a pretty derogatory word.@@weebitreacts
@adrianmcgrath1984 oh damn! I'm definitely only copying the accent. I will double check that I'm not using any derogatory terms for new words. Thanks for letting me know. Sorry! Lorna
I wasn’t offended - in North America when a show like the Sopranos comes out there is always a small group of the Italian community who complain that it’s sustaining stereotypes- and there are an awful lot more Italians who like it. - it’s the equivalent of Londoners in the UK hating or loving Eastenders - or portrayals as gangsters.
It is an old show in production, 20+ years ago, becomes a bit more modern visually later on. Writing is pretty much differs from great to outstanding throughout all seasons. One of the first shows ever, if not the first that introduced a protagonist who isn't conventionally a good guy, in fact Tony can be a pretty horrible person. I think you caught it right, he loves the ducks, and seems like a nice guy, but next scene he brutally beats someone for money, then cheats on his wife, and so on. The show has also weird premise (and probably hard pitch) on the surface level, bunch of "big" italian-americans in a suburban area grill meat and talk about business. Is it a family drama show, a mob show, the show about mental health, about midlife crisis, about business problems and balancing work and life? The answer is probably "yes".
aaaah it's okay to love to hate us ahaha! Hopefully our reaction for Sopranos is better for you... tbh it's already 100x better than The Breakfast Club for us

This has some of the best writing in TV history. It is right up there with the likes of The Wire and The West Wing Also, some (a lot) of the difficult to understand words are actually Italian words scattered about amongst the English (i.e. "gabagool" a type of meat) Finally, if seeing boobies makes you embarrassed, you are going to be embarrassed a lot ;)
Oh, almost forgot : Medium-rare, Colin🥩😁 And Lorna: "I've had that family altercation, too. Where you want to kill the person & they're like 'Hey, I made you a sandwich 20 years ago!! You shouldn't be mad at me!' " 🤣😂🤣. Gaslighting may have replaced music as the universal language!! And "Waste mgmt is not all it seems". LMAO. This show is going to bring out the best in both of you & your number of subs will🚀🚀🚀!!
