A tip for shading colors is that if your light source is warm your shadow color will be cool. If the light source is cool the shadow will be warm. The actually true color of an object is only visible in between the shadow and light. Adjusting your hue when shading is important because it prevents your painting from looking flat. You should look at the form principle, it’s a great resource for knowing how light will interact with an object.

Omg this is so relatable I must started talking my art seriously and I hate when I can't get a drawing to look exactly like what I'm copying it from. Everyone says it looks good but all I can focus on is that one thing that makes it look different.

I don’t normally comment on videos but I feel like I must thank you for what you said in your video about improvement. I also tend to fall in the deep, dark hole of comparison with everything I do, and I get so discouraged because I am surrounded by these amazing and talented people. I was feeling especially down after playing tennis today, but after listening to your words I was reminded to take a step back from “competition” and just focus on myself and what my personal goals are. I hope that you continue to think positive and share your thoughts as they inspire countless numbers of people like me! Thank you ☺️

I love your advice for this video! It took me so many years to stop consistently getting discouraged that my art doesn't look as good or better than someone else's. It took years of reminding myself that I was still young and my parents tried to force me to quit art to stop thinking that way. Your advice is definitely extra helpful when following a Loish tutorial!! That womans art is out of this world.

So I’ve been a subscriber to your channel for around nine months but I haven’t watch this video until today and when i got to 7:37 I just felt like everything got so real and felt like you were describing my experience with art because I love art and so many people say that I have a serious talent for it but when I’m drawing or sketching there are times where I will just break down and stop believing that I can finish the project that I’m working on, like I don’t have the techniques to do so and so when I heard your words I just felt so incredibly understood and I have to seriously thank you for that and honestly I don’t care if you see my comment or not, I mean I would be so happy, but I do understand that it is highly unlikely for you to read this but Incase you do I hope you know that J mean every single word I said/typed and that you are one of my heroes and I will never forget what I have learned from you, you truly are an amazing person, not even, I don’t think there are even words to describe how much you mean to me so I hope you can continue to do your thing and be the amazing person you are

I told my best friend who loves doing digital art to check out your content as she's been feeling a little bit low recently and burnt out from her Foundation Art Course at university. We all know as artists we are our worst critics and comparing the final piece with the original concept is a toxic habit that we have especially when we see others succeed in creating. I have just got out of this habit and I have realised that I should be inspired by others and the only thing I should compare my art to is my own. Waffles, you have been a major part in my journey to this realisation even though I don't do digital art or have any markers but my best friend has both! I figured, if I could get this level of happiness and confidence from your videos then she definitely will be overjoyed by the inspiration you give!

Since your beginning I'd recommend to use a small tablet, wacom has the small ones for $80, huion may have a cheaper tablet. you can use medibang or firealpaca which are free programs to draw in the computer or if you have a phone or tablet you can use the app version of medibang, ibis paint ( another free program ) or clip studio paint, but that's a pay $10 a month to use type of thing.

One tip I’ve learnt when colouring digitally is always shade and highlight with the colours next to the base colour.
(E.g if your shading a light skin tone in the orange hue range, shade with red and highlight with yellow, it makes the colour really pop!)

I'm a huge perfectionist as well, 'working through the ugly' as my mom says is super hard for me too and often keeps me from doing things that I know I'm not good at, haven't really tried, or anything that takes a lot of time. :')
This was a really inspirational and motivating for me since I can 100% relate to the struggles and seeing/hearing you work through them and create a masterpiece at the end is truly amazing and makes me want to go out and do something different and to not let my perfectionism hold me back.

This is beautiful, Rin! I’m the same way with digital painting. The idea of going in with color and blending my safe lines away is terrifying. And I’m a very impatient person when it comes to art, so when I do get over that fear and the middle stage looks like a mess, I get super discouraged and the file goes into my stack of unfinished stuff.
Loish is super inspiring, but you inspire me even more! Every time I watch one of your videos and get that rush to draw anything and everything, and now you’ve encouraged me to keep at it when I’m attempting a painting. Thank you for paving the away once again! I can’t wait to see you paint more and I can’t wait to start painting myself!💜💛

I am very happy that you are so excited about your art for two reasons.
    1. You're happy with your art, like you should be. YAY!🎉
    2. The painting turned out to be so *beautiful!!* I definately wanna see more paintings sometime in the future.

Okay this was freaking amazing. I give up really easily on my own art and her tips about not looking at other art are great. But to see Waffles progressing through all of this herself is amazing to watch. All in all, the punch of inspiration was strong and keep it up!

Waffles, you are my biggest art inspiration and you are always so upbeat and funny in your videos that I’m always so excited to watch them. I absolutely cannot express how amazing this painting is and how much you and your art mean to me in general. Thank you so much for existing and helping me to continue drawing even when things are bad. Thank you, and I hope YOU have a delicious evening full of waffles :)

I freaking adore this piece Waffles. It's so amazing seeing you expand your talents and seeing your style in a different style (if that makes sense) It's definitely inspiring to listen to your experience with each artwork you make. It helps keep the dream of being an artist alive for me; a possibility

What got me into digital art was really just looking for backround pictures that I really wanted but I couldn't find any. So I drew my own not just that but a lot of my friends and RUclipsrs I'm obsessed with did digital art. So, it gave me that pusb

You have absolutely no idea how much this video inspired me !!, not just loish,, but you!!! How you never gave up even when it looked messy at the start, I’ve been doing digital art for about 2 months, and before I wasn’t that happy with any of my drawings, and I didn’t finish them because I got so discouraged. But you helped me keep on going !! And my result wasn’t perfect.. but I’m quite proud of it!!! And you also introduced me to loish ( because as the ignorant child i am ) i Didnt know her😂.... but yeah thank you so much !!! Also your painting was BEYOND gorgeous ❤️ and if anybody wants to see mine it’s my icon. ! btw I used procreate so I wasn’t able to use color balance 😭.... so I had to use my inner artist color theory 😂(which to be completely honest kinda sucks😂😂) the whole process took 6 hours.... I hope I get quicker eventually 😂

Digital art is so much fun! When I got my first drawing tablet, I used it pretty much non-stop during my free time. :) Hope you continue to enjoy it and pick up tips!

I am sure it looks way easier than the sped up version makes it out to be though 😭 great work waffles! 💕

Rin, I just want to say that you are sooo inspiring. I love watching your videos and I often find myself rewatching them a few times also 😅. I know that this isn’t your usual style and I know you said you’re new at it, but THIS. IS. BEAUTIFUL.
You were talking about how it doesn’t look good to you at the beginning of the process and stuff and I’m just staring at it TRYING to see what’s off about it and I can’t. You did an amazing job and you’re such an inspiration. Thank you so much for doing these videos.
Okay bye, I have to rewatch this now 😂
