  • A 75 MPH DIY Electric Bike! I built a custom 37Ah 18s Li-Ion battery with Metzev batteries (metzev.com/), capable of outputting over 300A. I am using a Sabvoton72150 speed controller and a QS V3 3.5T 5000W hub motor, which can peak up to around 14,000W. The mountain bike has 29" wheels, which allows for such insane speeds. I haven't even topped out the 4th power level while riding and hit 65 lol. That is the fastest I have ridden on it, but when doing static tests, it reaches 74.9MPH. It's terrifying. Don't try this at home!

Be sure to test every tire by running on the back wheel and getting it up to 80 mph before going out on the road. Bike tires explode easily at high speed, especially if they are unbalanced.

Reminds me of when I was a 11 year old with a Schwinn stingray style that had a two speed transmission that you just kick backwards to change gears, and then go backwards and hold it still to brake. Was going down a hill steeper than I could peddle 45+ and when I hit the brakes the internals of the 2 speed hub blew up and locked up the back tire permanently.

I can make a more in-depth video about it, but the generals of a BMS is that it balances all the individual cells' voltages in a battery, keeping it stable (so it doesn't blow up from overcharging or over discharging). You don't need one, but you would have to balance charge after every discharge.

Yes, this with a the rim brakes is a wonder! But for going downhill on a regular bike they must also do their job. They even perform better with for example pads from Kool Stop or similar. The bicycle tires could be a problem on high speed.

The battery is 66.6 volts, not 72. You base the rated voltage by the nominal voltage of the individual cells. For example. You have 18 cells in series, so the math would be 3.7 volts per cell, X 18 in series. 3.7x18=66.6. You're welcome.

It went together easily in less than an hour. ruclips.net/user/postUgkxHL1v1R3NE5x4KiYfyt8dnQmyNYz7qi5L Make sure the front fork is forward or the pedals will hit the front tire. Tires are both a little soft so it needs air before I ride it. The rear wheel didn't come with a clamp regular bolts hold it on. The front had the clamp. No scratches out of box. Rims are a little off with a slight wobble. They could have spent more time with the spoke tool fixing the run out. So far out of the box I'm happy with it. I did replace the pedals with a nice aftermarket set. After riding it a bit my A$$ is a bit sore so I ordered another seat. Overall I'm nearly 60 and didn't ride a bike in 30 years. I like my new 29" Schwinn. It will be used for casual rides with my friend.
