Why Puss In Boots 2 Looks So Different To Shrek

Thank you for explaining this, I was wondering why the animation style looked so different in the trailer compared to the other films in the Shrek franchise. I will admit that I prefer the more realistic 3D animation, but this new animated style still looks pretty cool. I also believe it's a good thing for each animated movie to choose what animation style will fit the story the best, rather than all of the films having the same exact style. I would be surprised if Shrek 5 ends up having the same animation style as the new Puss In Boots movie. I wonder if Kung Fu Panda 4 and Madagascar 4 (if they decide to make a fourth movie) will also have that same style. I like the style for new films and franchises but for old franchises like "Shrek" it just seems like they are cutting corners and getting cheaper. I think they should save this style for new stuff and keep the old the way it was, otherwise it sends the message they are failing.
EDIT: But to add, this method would have been more ideal and faithful to fairy tale themed stories like "Shrek" but only if they did it at the start.

I wouldnt say this looks "different" id say it straight up looks cheap and substantially worse. Havent seen the film, but dont know how anyone could like the look of this.
