Soooo goooood. Just impeccable acting, all around. “These _walls_ know it” gives me chills every time. And the absolute journey that Arthur goes through is so visible on his face. He goes from concerned to confused to bewildered to confused again to shocked and then a brief moment of doubt and denial before going back to shock and by the end of it he’s so on autopilot because he’s basically doing the human equivalent of buffering as he struggles to understand and process what he has just learned. Honestly his face is priceless. I would not be surprised to see a crack compilation of funny moments with that look featured in it and accompanied by like, dial-up modem sounds. 😂
Great performance. John Chivery is a testament to Dickens's genius, a figure of fun *and* truly sincere. Another very moving scene is at a society dinner when William Dorrit has a vision he is in the Marshalsea, and we see how all his pompousness has been an effort to conceal his fragility.
Heartbreaking and absolutely heartwrenching .. how can anyone watch this and not burst out in tears .. one of the best acted scenes in this incredible series .. Both actors were brilliant .. Russell Tovey makes your tears flow .. while Matthew MacFayden clearly was battling not to cry ., his agony for John`s pain dueling with his ecstasy with the realization that Amy loves him is found in his beautiful eyes ., the workings of his mouth as he silently forms the word me .. the incredulous expressions that flit across his face ,. And Matthew speaks softly and reins in his emotion so eloquently so that Russell can put all he has into this scene ., and that makes it even more effective .. then Arthur expresses all of this to John in that emotional handshake., brilliant .. oh so brilliant.. one if the best example of acting I have ever seen .. truly Bella primo this! Cannot say enough about the excellent and ethereal performances of each actor in this powerful and poignant series., To me this was Matthew MacFadyen at his finest ., he so deserved that award he was nominated for.. the performance of this beautiful man was beyond brilliant,,❣ Jen999💙
And to think if John didn't speak to Arthur he might never have become aware of his feelings for Amy. After this he thinks back and has the revelation of the instances they were together and realises his feelings for her and hers for him ❤
Gotta love these screenwriter chaps. They've got Dickens's dialogue but they say, "That's rubbish! I'll do it so much better!" But they don't, do they?
I have seen full movie in RUclips before, why can't I find it again??? It's in bits and pieces...I need a binge watching Charles Dickens in these hard times...
John is a true example of an actual real nice guy. He accepts that Amy loves Arthur and though he will always have a special place in his heart with her name carved into it, as he says, he harbors no I’ll will or resentment toward either of them. Even in this scene, part of what makes it so moving and so heartbreaking is that he isn’t angry with Arthur or hates him because Amy loves him instead of John, he’s upset with Arthur because Arthur has been oblivious to her feelings for him, and John knows that causes her pain. He wants the two of them to be happy together because he loves Amy and genuinely wants her to be happy, even if she finds it with someone else. That’s love right there. And that’s not to take away from the love that Amy and Arthur share either, it’s just funny how different a true gentleman handles rejection with grace is to how guys on the internet who call themselves “gentlemen” handle rejection so poorly.
@@Emnms68 I think honestly, your prescription has really now just made my day! I thought for so long, John was confronting Arthur because he was jealous of him being with the girl he knew since childhood and that he told him that he also had feelings for her too. But since you pointed out that he wasn't, I completely understand now. I feel bad for John. Wish someone could make a sequel for Little Dorrit, so that John can be more popular and would find a perfect wife for him too! P.S. I am aware that his actor, Russell Tovey is gay, but just saying his acting is great in this series as he performed.
OMG!! As English as a second language, and having learned it the American way... some accents are a bit tough to catch... and i was thinking who sounded similar to this kid’s then I realized... it was the one I was thinking about... "All the time I was breaking my heart over her, she was breaking hers over you" 💔 Such a heartbreaking scene wonderfully performed.
I weep every time I see this. This young man's heart ....
Where can I find the full production. Is it a BBC production?
@@brianhyde5900 It is available to buy as a box set from the BBC or Amazon

Russell Tovey is an amazing actor, I can feel his pain.
This scene just rips my guts out. Russell Tovey did an exceptional job in that role. Brilliant job on the parts of these actors. Splendid, truly.

*shifty eyes* "What?"
Love Matthew!
Masterclass acting!!!
Anyone who loves Matthew Macfadyen and has not seen Little Dorrit. Along with Pride And Prejudice. Both brilliant.
He was fantastic in Pillars of the Earth too. He's such a good actor.
@@lovetolovefairytales Have not seen this one. Thanks.
Brilliantly performed.absolutely intense and beautiful.I am very moved.
I love the way he says "Are u angry with me??
John: "... I beg your pardon."
Arthur: "Freely granted."
**sigh**
I felt so sorry for him, one of the best scenes ever. and what an actor. true tears...
One of the best scenes in TV, period.♥️
Totally agree. 💯

Incredible acting by Russell!
ahh..my favorite scene in this brilliant adaptation!
Arguably the best scene in all Dickens - and even more arguably - the best performed....
This is my Christmas treat, brilliant acting, fantastic design and costumes, wonderful.
Arthur is like "wut?! I had no idea"

I did not like John's character. I love Dickens and I enjoyed this novel, but the series was just okay for me.
Just a reminder, it's not a movie. It's a TV series
Wasn't John a bit boring to you?
