I have a master's degree in piano performance, and I am here to tell you this is the most beautiful segment of music ever written! And this performance is magical!!
Very beautiful indeed. I'm in love with it. I play piano only a little bit, but even so I'm trying to play this music. It's a challenge that I want so much to win.
I heard the Paganini Rhapsody live years ago, and during this variation, I looked around to see half the audience wiping away tears, as was I. If there is a more beautiful three minutes of music out there, I've never found it. I don't know what universe Rachmaninoff came from, but I want to spend eternity there. He simply has no equal. I wish he did!
So well said Michael. This piece of music is heavenly. The musicians in that orchestra were in the presence of the genius at the piano, as well as the spirit of Rachmaninoff.
Hi Michael, beside this Rachmaninov piece ive only had the expierience of this emotion during the Conercto d Aranjuez 2nd movement. Expecially the end part.
@@theory-of-a-mad-man7781 I had to look that one up. I wasn't familiar with it. That is one somber piece, and that ending, with the oboe and bassoon is indeed haunting.
Dear Daniil Trifonov... I'm just a 15 year-old who loves music and playing the piano more than anything else. Today I discovered you and became your big fan. This piece of music brings tears into my eyes every time I listen to it. The one and only Russian sense of harmony and your special tone colour mixed together makes this piece really extraordinary and unique. Thank you
I’m 16 and finally learned this piece and ever since I heard it 10 years ago I’ve wanted to play this work it truly is amazing. Rach has since become a huge inspiration to me. I am now in the memorizing process of his fantasy pieces and working on the etudes tableaux. Music has been an escape from reality for me in ways that I can’t begin to describe. Thank you Rach.
We had this for my grandmother's funeral, I'd never heard it in full before, just a snippet, which I tried to hum to the music instrument shop , they knew immediately..... Beautiful piece of music , and of course ... Reminds me of my dear, gentle grandmother!
My most favorite piece in the whole world, featured in the movie "Somewhere in Time". He plays the piano masterfully and with extreme expression. So impressive indeed
That movie is where I learned of this song, and I wish I hadn't haha. That movie was so bad, I wish I had learned of this song from something less humorous. This song deserves a media more regal.
Touched my heart, from the first notes. I am listening again and again. I see that Trifonov is truly sincere when he plays this, and--did anyone notice the conductor? He clearly feels it in his heart too.💖 Such joy to have this.
I listen to this on sunday 15 march 2020, there is a crisis in the world with the Corona virus all over the world and in my country the Netherlands, but keep faith, international solidarity, take care of each other: and Rachmaninoff music is stronger than Corona. I wish you all the best, good health.
Sat listening to this track four and a half years later, because watching Somewhere in Time reminded me how much I love it, and hoping that you are as well as it is beautiful.
If people were truly honest many would have to agree that for sheer beauty of sound there is not much in this century that can compete with this in all of music A true orchestral gem from Rach
I love the 18th variation. It was my grandmothers favorite piece of music. It's beautiful and this version is sublime, but I get very emotional while listening. It resonates so deeply inside me and makes me miss my lovely grandmother desperately.
The bows all moving in synchronization, the conductor waving his hands like he’s lifting the harmony, Trifonov jolting with emotion... it’s so beautiful
I live in Colombia, Covid-19 has struck us very hard, our government is bullshit and the economy is in a really bad shape. But here I am listening this brilliant pianist. Classic music makes me forget all the bad things in the world.
I cry every time I hear this piece. It is so beautifully interpreted by the pianist and the orchestra. The classical musician in me just soars when I hear it.
First time hearing Daniil Trifonov playing and I was amazed. I paid attention to the details (e.g. tempo, emotional expression, etc.) and this is one of the best version of the Variation 18.
So that's what this magical piece of music is called... absolutely gorgeous! 🥰 Incredible orchestra too, and the pianist almost looks like he's about to meld with that piano, he's so engaged in it 😄😊 Heard this when I watched a film called Ronin, when there's a lady figure skating proper gracefully.
Magnifique, quel talent de ce jeune artiste de 32 ans. Il interprète ce morceau que j'adore avec tant de sensibilité que cela me donne envie de pleurer ... je ne me lasse pas de l'écouter.

Until I saw Somewhere in Time, a beautiful love story, I never knew this amazing piece existed. Makes me feel like I've died and gone to heaven....63 thumbs down. I guess those people felt nothing. Poor souls....
Today I heard this song for the first time at a live orchestra. I went home and to find it and save it forever. It's so beautiful. During the whole song I only thought about my mother and how much I love her. Thank you for sharing this video. Really thank you

This reminds of my first love and tears the wound of losing her, open again. The first lp of classics I bought for myself was this on one side and Griegs' Concerto in A minor on the other, both cherished forever.
I was listening to this piece at maximum volume & my next door neighbor liked it so much that he threw a brick through my window so he could hear it better! I feel so honoured by their genuine appreciation for this masterpiece. 🎇
Have you ever had the pleasure of experiencing Daniil Trifonov live in concert?
No ,but its my dream
I will in 3 weeks.
Yes, at the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra years ago.

Makes you wonder what Chopin would have thought of Rachmaninoff. I'm sure he would have had great admiration.
HEEHEEHEEHAW
It's a killing performance by both the pianist and the orchestra.
Agree, but the stark contrast may be partly due to bad recordings of other interpretations.
My most favorite piece in the whole world, featured in the movie "Somewhere in Time". He plays the piano masterfully and with extreme expression. So impressive indeed
I watched a montage of "Somewhere in Time" last night. To hear Rachmaninov as well as the score from John Barry was truly magical!
