  • Excited to finally be able to graze our warm season cover crops today in paddock #11. Let’s see how the animals interact with and respond to this additional forage, as well as have a conversation on the advantages and disadvantages of warm season cover crops in our rotational grazing system.

Pasture looks great! Wish mine looked that good. I brush hogged behind the cattle and I believe that stunts the growth to knock out the multiflora roses. Plenty of rain so I hope it takes off! Also considering giving them more space, they seem to be slightly over grazing in the 24 hour period they are on it. When you get behind, it is really hard to catch the grass back up.

So true, friend. Brush hogging sure opens up that canopy and greens it up tho. Yes, catching up is hard, but extra hard in August I’m finding.

Just curious if you've ever seeded cover crops while the cattle were in the paddock for better seed to ground contact from trampling.

I never have, but the idea is intriguing. We’ve been experimenting with broadcasting directly behind the chicken tractor each day with promising results…more to come.
