Darryl, any E-Type lens, those with an electronic diaphragm, won't work completely on the F100. They'll focus but won't stop down from their maximum aperture. You could use them but only wide open. Some new Tamron lenses like the G2 zooms and the 35-150 are also E-Type and won't work either. Discovered this about the Tamron 35-150 just yesterday.
Eric Piskura It’s a shame some of the lenses do not work, but the days of Nikon thinking about film cameras is over. It’s nice to know most of the lenses still work
I liked the look of the film. I've been shooting with an older manual focus 28mm on my Nikon N80. I'll have to check out the 28mm f1.8 G. Thanks for sharing.
Picked up an F100 and Bat.Grip in very good condition over 7 years ago. Still in the same condition since this thing is a hand tank. Unsurprisingly, It has outlived my D5100 (sold it). Absolutely love this camera; its tanky feel, its instant AF, ease of use and compatibility with all F mount lenses.
Great video on your Nikon F100 mate, and using black & white film. I have never used B&W film but I have changed a few of my digital shots to B&W my 1/16 WWII RC Tiger 1 tank and it looked like it was directly out of WWII. I have been watching a very large number of videos regarding the Nikon F100 and the Nikon F5, and boy am I torn between the two cameras. The F5 and the F100 have their pros and cons and that makes it even harder to decide. The things on the F5 I do like are it’s construction with a cast magnesium alloy die-cast body covered by a durable aluminium housing, the switchable viewfinder curtain (eye piece shutter)for when one is taking a shot and you do not want extra light entering the camera, mirror lockup, titanium viewfinder housing, manual film rewind option if one likes a quiet rewind of film, and the F5 being weather and dust proof. The F5 cons are: it’s heavy weight is something to consider. The F100 is also built like a tank with it’s cast magnesium alloy frame, some features of the F5 carried over to the F100, being able to attach a Battery Pack if one wishes, and the F100 is some 425g lighter than the F5 which makes it a much better camera to carry around especially when using the camera for long periods of time. The F100 cons are: film door latches prone to breaking with the film door and latches being made of plastic. So in a nutshell I like both cameras.
Great video Darryl! I have the same camera and lens set up - they produce sharp photos with good micro contrast. I had great results with Kodak Portra 160/400, Ultramax, Fujicolor C200 and Superia 400. The matrix metering is very useful and it meters better than my Leica M7.
Hi Enrique, I have more fun with the F100 than my Leica MP. Yes the meter on the F100 is much better than what Leica have in their film cameras. The F100 was light years ahead when it was released

Would you know how and if the 28mm would work on the Nikon Z 6ii with the FTZ adapter? I see you used to shoot with the Nikon Z, though not too sure if that is still the case. Many thanks in advance for any guidance.
Milan Medek Thanks for watching the video and the feedback. The only way I can share my photos on RUclips is to scan them, working on setting up a darkroom and sharing the darkroom on RUclips.
Hi Toine, if its a 28mm f/1.8 I would highly recommend upgrading. The 28mm f/2.8 AF-D is a nice lens, but its slow to focus and you get an extra stop of light with the AF-S lens :)
I've got an F100, love it! I mainly use "D" lenses on mine. The Kosmo does look a bit flat but it works depending on the subject. I liked your fist Lexus image and the two statues. You have a good eye for 28mm. I'm a 35mm person. Keep up the good work, awesome videos.
@@DarrylCarey I went out last year with two f100's and did what I suggested to you above. Some 400 rated 100 and 100 @ 16 apature priority and let the chips fall where the cameras wanted! Was cobsmacked all I did was focus and squeeze! The camera chose wisley. No metering for the shadows etc the fact I'd overcooked the film with the settings I used limited the underexpose enough so there were almost no muddy blacks and the shutter speeds were fast enough with stopping power it was a bright day though! My f4'$ do the same as well. It doesn't work on my D750 however! :)
The dot is not always correct. It's more of a reference. I rely on my own eyes. It will work really well for camera/lens combos of the same generation (most likely due to calibration from Nikon). What I've done is learned the focus dot in relation to optical focus. So is focus before or after the dot. My focus is typically before the dot so dot comes on, I rotate back slightly, focus.
Hi Donovan , never had trouble with the dot not being in focus on my F5 and with the F100 and 50mm f/1.8 D lens. It’s good to know I can not trust the dot as much as I thought I could :)
@@DarrylCarey I use a Non Ai 50mm F/2 H manual lens on a D300. The little dot is very accurate from close range up to about 15ft-20ft, after that it's hit or miss especially at infinity focus.
After I uploaded the video last night, I check out the photos again. I think I will shoot a few more rolls as it has a really nice look, maybe test it on my MP
I really wish this could use the newer 24-70VR which I have and control the aperture. Is there some sort of adapter that I can maybe use to let me do so?
This is a bit ironic. I just posted a video where I was reviewing film, then ended by offering to send some of the same film to anyone, anywhere in the world, for free. I also live in Taiwan, and absolutely loved my F100 (but I sold mine, not long ago).

I just got back into film again, so I found a Nikon FE with 50 1.8 lens for $30 USD. Since it will only focus manually, will that 28mm G lens work on it?
Hi Luke, thanks for reminding me about the 105mm f/1.4. When I was shooting the video I could not remember the which lens I had used before that did not work on the F5.
@@DarrylCarey I think it might be a combination of the camera I'm using,a Voigtlander Bessa L ,It's a "finderless" camera so there's an uncertainty as to what I'll get and the fact that its a big step back. I learnt photography back in the 80s and made the full switch to digital in about 2005/6 because by that time it was a big step forward and going back just seems to be that. I went out a couple of months ago with a roll of HP5 Plus and took 6 shots and at the moment have no desire to expose the other 30.
Me too! Two decades with film (including wet BW & Color printing) and then followed by another two decades with digital. I think even the digital is getting long in the tooth (for me anyway). 😊
Do you find this lens sharp?i struggle to understand..I’ve use it on my D700 through different AF TUNE values and still can decide if this lens really worth it..
Darryl Carey Great! There are so many boutique films now it's quite daunting to know where to start. But it's time to set aside portra and hp5 and have a little fun. The F100 was the camera on my photography school. Still a winner.
Sadly photos shot with film will always be a little less sharp than a digital camera. But that is the nice pack about film photography the photos never look to sharp and unreal.
In my opinion digital pictures are too perfect. Film has character, attitude and a story to tell (Fujifilm tries to replicate this on their higher end mirrorless)

Milan Medek Thanks for watching the video and the feedback. The only way I can share my photos on RUclips is to scan them, working on setting up a darkroom and sharing the darkroom on RUclips.
Never heard of that Kosmo photo film, seems nice for all-around photo film, not sure I would use it for special occasion or landscape photography
It has a really nice fine grain.
What are your thoughts on upgrading to the 1.8 af-s from a 2.8 AF-D 28mm? The prices are even lower here which kinda attracts me to getting it.
Hi Toine, if its a 28mm f/1.8 I would highly recommend upgrading. The 28mm f/2.8 AF-D is a nice lens, but its slow to focus and you get an extra stop of light with the AF-S lens :)
Only the E series lenses are not working in terms of aperture control. But the focus works fine
@@DarrylCarey might have to look into getting one soon then! Focus is indeed rather slow..
@@张昊宇-p2e Thats right, its only the E Series. Thanks for helping me remember. Hope you enjoyed the video :)
Thanks for the great content as always Daryl!
Thanks Felipe, it means a lot that people enjoy my videos .
I loved my F100 but it ate batteries. So it's the F3 for me but I do miss the autofocus for sure
What batteries did you use, I have been using eneloop and they have been doing really well. The F3 is an awesome camera.
Darryl, the contrast was pretty sick. Did you have to have to push the film to get that or does it come out like that just from standard development?
Standard Development
The Nikon F100 is my one of my dream camera! Great Film SLR!
Hey Patrick, you should buy one😁 I’ve seen them selling for cheap prices at the moment
I found your lecture interesting. I recently returned to film photography.
Great vid thank you for the recommendation 👌🏼
Thanks
Great video. I also shoot an F100 and love it. Keep up the great work.
Thanks for watching, what lens do you use on the F100?
I use several lenses. 50 1.4, 28 3.5, and lastly an 85mm. All nikon glass.
Love this camera. I bot one as my poor man's Z6 and it feels so similar in my hand.
The F100 is an awesome camera and I still believe is great for people wanting to start to shoot film
I must put a roll of Kosmo 100 through my Nikon F801. :)
Would love to test some of this film out on my spotomatic!
Love the tune; )
Thanks
@@DarrylCarey your images weren't bad either ;) forgot to say :)
@@blackwingvisuals5017 Thank you, it was quick walk in between the rain.
Donovan Tyler Will have to check that out on my 50mm lens, never had a problem but will be good to know if there is an issue
I actually like the flat look. Very good for city scapes.
After I uploaded the video last night, I check out the photos again. I think I will shoot a few more rolls as it has a really nice look, maybe test it on my MP
Would love to try that film ;-)
Great music!
Ha ha ha ... been watching to many of your videos :)
Daaamn this is like a cinestill of B&W films :D
Are there dev instructions on the box?
For the Film ?
@@DarrylCarey yes
@@needleneck3770 Sadly no info in the box
Sad
@@needleneck3770 Kosmo Foto Mono is rebranded Fomapan 100, you can have a look online to see if you can find the info you need on Fomapan 100.
I really wish this could use the newer 24-70VR which I have and control the aperture. Is there some sort of adapter that I can maybe use to let me do so?
It is a shame you can use some of the newer DSLR lenses, my F100 is still my fav 35mm film camera, just so easy to use
This is a bit ironic. I just posted a video where I was reviewing film, then ended by offering to send some of the same film to anyone, anywhere in the world, for free. I also live in Taiwan, and absolutely loved my F100 (but I sold mine, not long ago).
Great minds think alike ! ... Where are based in Taiwan? I'm heading back later this month for work and will be in Taipei for a few days afterwards.
@@DarrylCarey I live in Taichung. I didn't realize you were out of the country, for some reason I thought that you owned a business up in Taipei and lived there!
@@SkylerKing I spent way to much time in Taiwan, in a few weeks will be trip 51 to Taiwan. Let me know if you want to catch up sometime :)
Great video!

Film Forever!
Hi Darryl, excellent channel and content you have! I'm getting back into film, I bought a Pentax ME Super + 35mm f2 lens Shooting with film again has awakened my love of old school photography and the process that goes into it! unfortunately I'm going through alot of film! do you know where I can get some good cheap film in Auck?
My 28mm Nikon lens is the best lens I e ever owned!!
Berlin Kino B&W 35 mm ISO 400 is the Dogs!
Great channel
Thanks Pascal
I just got back into film again, so I found a Nikon FE with 50 1.8 lens for $30 USD. Since it will only focus manually, will that 28mm G lens work on it?
Ok. What’s in the Kosmos film?!
Its a rebranded film
@@DarrylCarey But which rebranded film? I'm curious now.
The E series won’t work on the F100. D and G are fine. I think you have a 105mm e series. You used it when you got the Nikon D5 and did a video.
Hi Luke, thanks for reminding me about the 105mm f/1.4. When I was shooting the video I could not remember the which lens I had used before that did not work on the F5.
I like it alot.
anyone know what the original film stock is before it was rebranded?
Fomapan 100.
it will be mine soon !
I'm finding it very difficult to get back into film photography.
Hi Ian, may I ask why you are finding it hard?
Hi mate, I got the F100 the other day! I love it. Am I too late for the film giveaway?😅
Do you find this lens sharp?i struggle to understand..I’ve use it on my D700 through different AF TUNE values and still can decide if this lens really worth it..
The Lens is really sharp even at f/1.8
More film reviews! 😉
Working on them and will have some cool videos from Taiwan coming later this month.
Darryl Carey Great! There are so many boutique films now it's quite daunting to know where to start. But it's time to set aside portra and hp5 and have a little fun. The F100 was the camera on my photography school. Still a winner.
Oh, I saw this film in Riga
I know this lens is sharp when it is used with a digital camera. After I had seen photos in the clip, it seems to be less sharp with this setup.
Sadly photos shot with film will always be a little less sharp than a digital camera. But that is the nice pack about film photography the photos never look to sharp and unreal.
In my opinion digital pictures are too perfect. Film has character, attitude and a story to tell (Fujifilm tries to replicate this on their higher end mirrorless)
bravo
