    Hi, Thank you for doing a tutorial. A little bit about me. I'm 52, short and rather round. I used to do nunchucks when I was around 15. Many years ago.
    I've just bought a set of foam nunchucks.
    Question? Am I too old to learn? I also bought them to try and help lose weight off my arms ( as well as dieting of course).
    Liz

    • @WhipBasics
      @WhipBasics  8 лет назад +2

      You are probably too young. But never too old! You could start with 98, if you like. Practicing is never a question of age. It is only a question of spirit!
      And it seems to me that you have the right spirit. So... Don't listen to anyone who says that you can't. Let me tell you: You can do what ever you want.
      The learning speed is different. But the more you practice, the better your results will be. Just go on and show the world that you can do it.
      And especially to yourself!
      Good luck,
      Robby

    I'm a Filipino martial arts trainee and I am moving up to intermediate lesson of chaku since the only skill that I didn't learn is the horizontal one finger spin. I don't have a spare chaku to use it as a double chaku so I just used my Arnis Sinawali, on the left hand and chaku in the right hand.

    U explained very well . Can u plz tell me which is good for beginners wood or iron ? And 8 chain or 16 chain which one is the best plz tell me .

    • @WhipBasics
      @WhipBasics  7 лет назад +1

      For the beginner - the softer, the better. If you have to choose between wood and iron...definitely wood. And the connection between the two elements. You can start by taking half the length of one of the sticks. Then you have to practice and see which length feels better for you. Just start slow and easy, okay? Don't try to be Bruce Lee or a mean fighting machine. Be a beginner.

      To be honest - I don't know. Everybody who is able to read (and to understand...) should see that it is called "A BEGINNERS Guide". Beginner. Not advanced. All those folks who disliked it, want to be Bruce Lee. They live in a dream world, where they are martial arts heroes. Well. I am not. I teach basics. Thank you for your comment, Sir. I appreciate it!

    I've always heard that you should start learning with your non-dominant hand because it will always be more awkward and that will give it a head start.

    • @WhipBasics
      @WhipBasics  7 лет назад

      That depends. Some people yes, some people no. I mean - if you're completely insecure with your left hand it does not make too much sense. But it is absolutey mandatory to practice with both hands. Especially for the basics. You know, I'm only kind of ground school teacher up to third grade. For the fancy stuff, the swirling, killing and hitting... There are other great folks who can explain that. I - for my part - show the basics. The safe foundation, a lot of people simply forget about.

    To each their own but for me the chain style is cumbersome and noisy, also they are slower than the nylon rope I use. I never could get why most people use chain.
    Like I said, to each their own, just that the rope is so smooth and allows for better speed.

    • @WhipBasics
      @WhipBasics  7 лет назад +3

      Yep. You are totally right. It is noisier and - most important - slower. So... This is called "Beginner Tutorial", right? BEGINNER. When you have children who start to learn driving a car - what would you like them to start with? A high power sports car or a slower and safe one? When I read your comment, I'm afraid you would give them the sports car. Before you learn to run, you should learn how to walk, safely. Same for the nunchaku. Before someone starts with the fast stuff, he should learn the basics. Safe and sound. Safe and slow. Right?

    • @sebastian6650
      @sebastian6650 7 лет назад

      Yea, i just got my nuns like 2 days ago, ofc chained. I was little bit confused why arent they as fast as i see here on YT. Now i know why. But i am not complaining. I am happy and i think this speed is enough since i am new here x)

    I remember busting open my head with the nunchucks (nunchaku) in the late 70s.
    That was your fault Bruce :-)

      Neo Linux has some one ever mispronounced your name, and claimed to be your best friend? Some find it irritating

    All these videos are the same, flat footed and squared off. Hands choked up on the chucks to make it easier to start spinning them. Not the way. Get in a fighting stance, chucks in rear hand with one Chuck under the arm, resting on the upper arm or down alongside your leg. Don’t choke up on it, you give up reach if you do. Don’t spin,flip or make unneeded movements with the chucks. Some of them require you loosening your grip and you risk dropping them or having them knocked or taken out of your hands. Learn the four types of strikes, full, glancing, wrapping and short and the proper way to recover. There are some grappling techniques with them but it’s not recommended for self defense, close in you risk losing control of them to your opponent and then you are one swing away from disaster. These are a distance striking weapon, the amount of reach they provide in a melee is deceptive and the less showy and demonstrative you are with them the better.
