Fantastic Video Aaron, I really enjoyed this review! I simply MUST get up and explore your neck of the woods on a bike. Such a great little bike too, I was equally impressed with it.
I test rode one (and bought it) and it feels like a KTM. I used to own a 1290 super adventure (first gen) and this seems like a way more manageable version of that. I think it's impressive they made this bike feel like a much more expensive bike. I quit buying big/fast bikes after many years and many miles. I enjoy lighter bikes more, weird I know. So for me this is not a beginners bike, it's an ideal bike. Power is nice, but not at the cost of useability or the feeling of control over the bike. I totally understand the craving for a 160hp beast....but for me, not anymore.

@@ghalder1674 : that is complete and total bullshit. I own one and it is a very well built bike. Is it a 20.000 euro bike? No. Is it an amazing bike for the money? ABSOLUTELY. I'm really impressed on your presentation. The cinematics and the detailed explaination of the mutorcycles specs. I will have mine this december. More vids. Vince here from the philippines.
Hi. Nice video. But can you pls bring up some specifications and features what this model have. How this track control real works, also on wet paved road.?
it baffles me that this bike comes without the crash bars in other markets. i've layed this bike down probably 5 times off-road and the bars completely save it from any real damage. i love my adv390, its a great way to just shut out the world and have some fun again
Beautiful, beautiful video! Is it Aaron doing the action shots on the dirt?! Great riding! Cool apparel, too. In my brief time with the 390, I found it to be really good on the tarmac (for a thumper). On the dirt? It broke my left arm! You might say that lack of talent did that, but I say poteito, potahto :)
Thanks Paulo, yes I rode for the piece, and glad you like the Knox gear! Just a bit more practice and you'll get there! Its easy to get wrong off road, and I've fell off loads of times off road, just part of the learning curve! Thanks, Aaron KNOX
a yt channel I watched says: -engine dies at high rpm (he has the valves loosened) -stock chain good for only 6k miles (he replaced it with one good for 20k miles.. plus suggested to change immediately so sprocket and new chain can meld together (not wait for stock chain to wear bef. replacing it) -rear shock valve wears and fluid starts leaking due to heat from the way too close exhaust resonator (he offered no solution unfortunately) -fork suspension valve leaks (he suggested it's from factory assembly) ruclips.net/video/ZvlOYKMtlaE/видео.html
Wonderful video, thanks! I bought this bike this summer. My first 2 wheeler. And I'm over 50 yo.. 😄 I love this bike. Just for me. Easy to drive and light enough. I want to make a trip to northern Finland next summer. And I'm sure this will be a great partner there.
I own the 390A and I can't disagree with anything said here. With 12,000km on mine I have had zero reliability issues. Not sure why I find the bike so appealing to ride, but it has great balance, it's quite lightweight and nimble. I could use 2" longer front forks, either that or a 21" front wheel, but that would effect its on-road handling which is superb for an ADV bike. Still, there's a heck of a sport-tourer downhill tilt on the bike that can get annoying on long hauls. Engine is so impressive, pulls like a 550cc in its rev range. I put a Seat Concepts seat on mine with an air pad, now it's quite comfortable on longer hauls. I also installed handlebar risers for a more upright position. Survives really well on the super-highways, loves the twisties, and will easily blow away larger ADVs on trails with sheer nimbleness. Off road you have to disconnect the TC like you say because it just gets in the way. It's not a dual sport but it is capable within limits.
Great review. Excellent content👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 I’ve owned my 390 for 6 months and done most of the upgrades you mentioned. Road 250 miles on Sunday 50% off-road on the Fosse Way with enduro riders. I think they were a little surprised.
What a video! Beautiful shots and a great rider. 390 is the way to go (and crf300l for places with less roads like central Asia). Big CC "adventure bikes" are for old people who think thru conformist lenses, they are like SUV, only riden on pavement on Sundays lol, real adventure requires lighter bikes
Agree with everything you said about the 390 ADV. I am an experienced rider and sold my 1200 and picked a 390 ADV. Appreciate you calling out this is not just a beginner bike. Yes, it will make an excellent beginner bike but do yourself a favor if you are an experienced rider that likes to go off-road and ditch your heavy big ADV bike.
I'm a total beginner. Had one of these for a few weeks. It has changed my life. Very easy to learn on and very forgiving. Quickshifter is great on the freeway.
Great video! I am thinking of getting the same bike, but it looks like I definitely need to come up and explore, those dirt tracks look awesome! Do you have a map or information of where they are?
Watching after an year of its launch. Engine has been much smoother in new models. However, value for money still this bike is and is feature loaded. At 3:17 that bee 🐝 sounded like a inline 4 flyby 😃
Really great video thankyou! I think you have made my mind up so thank you for that! Question though - how do you find out where you can ride the tracks etc in places like the Lake District? Thanks
Thanks moire, glad you enjoyed. We have a vid on finding the trails on our channel, but a good place to start would be joining TRF in UK. Lots of people who can help point you in the right direction. Aaron Knox
Adventure belongs to the rider, not to the piece of metal underneath you. Jeez that's so damn right. I'm confiused between SmcR, EnduroR or this one... I might go to this one..
This is way better than new KTM 650 KLR. More horsepower, lighter, led headlight, TFT, adjustable suspension. Stability control with cornering ABS. Less expensive than KLR. Lighter off road bikes makes for more fun.
I can say more about the KTM 390 reliability since you didn't have the time. Well, after only 560 km it broke down with fuel pump failure. A really disappointment for me. A new fuel pump is available in 2 months time. I am located in Europe and I wonder how can this be possible. Until then I'm on the side line with almost zero communication from the KTM dealership without any kind of compensation or spare bike. Maybe it's just my bad luck. Superb video by the way!
I think it's bad luck!, just over 3 thousand on mine and no problems. I am waiting on a new TFT screen "condensation on the inside" but i knew that before i bought it. I think it's the colder weather in Europe. I'm in Ireland and no condensation all summer, good luck and hope you get back on the road soon.
@@casper1434 yeah, I think it's bad luck with the fuel pump failure, but the 2 months period for getting a new pump, inside the European Union, it's bad management from KTM I guess.
That's unfortunate but I have heard that communication with most dealerships is like trying to find and communicate with extraterrestrial life forms. Customer service should be a priority but seems not.
Love this review 🤗 partly because of the scenery and the commentary. I'm from England but moved to Oz in 2006. Only now at nearly 60 I decided to learn to ride a motorbike! 😅 I passed couple of months ago and because of budget got myself a KTM Duke 200 and put great crossover tyres on her so I can ride through the National Park where I work. When money flowing I'm really keen on this 390 adventure 😉👍🤗
Coming back after owning this bike for around 6 months now, and I think this review has really stood the test of time. Still very much agree with all the observations, and I think the more I ride it the overall impressions I have of its capability only increase. The "we just rode it" is really the ethos of a bike like this, as you can get caught up in the specs and the theoretical shortcomings, but really once you start pushing to its assumed limits it actually behaves really well, especially off-road. The suspension is great, for what it is. The standing position is fine, for when you need to stand. The power delivery is predictable and adequate in the majority of situations. It's well put together, and some basic looking-after is enough to keep it looking basically new for a long time. For the price you pay, oof, what a bargain. No doubt I'll still move on at some point, but really there's nothing to regret about owning one.
Great vid. You sure can handle that 390! Wish I could handle mine like that. I usually find though the longer I'm in on the saddle for a days riding i get a lot more confident doh! I'm was toying with the idea of chit out for a more dirt oriented bike like the husky 701 or ktm 690, but I think now I will persist with it for another year or two and see if I can unlock its full potential like you have done.
Thanks Owen. Its a really great bike, and i think its pretty confidence inspiring. The Husqvarna 701 enduro (which we own), is a bit of a handful, yes ultimately more capable than the 390 off road, but 1/2 of my ownership of it, I've been a bit intimidated by it as its tall, very powerful and can put you on your backside in a flash! Its only now Im starting to ride the 701 better, but not maximising it yet. The 390 is a lot softer and easier to ride. Just leave it in 1st gear off road, rev the crap out of it and build your confidence up. I think its a brilliant bike for doing that... you'll be the master of it soon enough! Hope that helps, Aaron KNOX
Thx Aaron, good advice. Going to get a set of knobbys for it, which I think will help a lot with grip in gravel and sand. Would love you to do a follow-up video sometime!
Very enjoyable review (and love the Knox gear that I've purchased so far). My overall impression from the various 390 reviews and a test ride is that it's actually an upper-intermediate bike dressed in beginners clothing. I think the potentially annoying things, like it propensity to stall, or slightly weird off-road ergonomics...are all overcome if you can ride the bike confidently, like they did in this video. As a KTM it prefers to be ridden on the upper side of its limits, and it doesn't give its best self when you start taking it too cautious and don't throw it into turns etc (in contrast with something like the Himalayan, which is so forgiving in that soft discovery mode). Question for me, is that if you do pick it up as a beginner can you grow into being the type of rider it wants you to be...I'd argue maybe no, and you should take some off-road courses on a bike you can drop without conscience roughly 150-200 times :)
Many thanks, really glad you thought so and agree with the review. I think you hit the nail on the head with the term "an upper-intermediate bike dressed in beginners clothing"! Many thanks, Aaron KNOX
Long distance, that big single has a habit of vibrating the occasional bolt coming loose. Every few hundred miles, it's worth going over the bike to make sure everything's tight. Owned both a 390 Duke, and now the Adventure, and I've found the same issue on both. Otherwise, it's been an amazing machine to play around on. Travels well, longest trip was 800 miles in 2 days, never complained once, though consider a softer seat.
I have a (2023) Suzuki V-strom 650XT and am somewhat of a Knox addict. All summer I've been riding with my Urbane jacket, Handroid gloves and Knox Urbane pants. VERY comfortable! Anyway, I took the bike to Suzuki York for it's second service and they had a 2021 KTM 390 Adventure with just 4300 miles on it. Heated grips, quickshifter added, engine guards.... I put down a deposit on it today! Am really looking forward to it. I intended it as a 'winter commuter' for my 8 mile journey to work (I am a Theatre Nurse in Trauma and Acutes at the hospital). But now I'm thinking 'I could do SO much more with this bike!'... I'm an IAM rider and a Blood Biker but I'm eager to get out and try the KTM off the beaten track a bit. Just... Don't tell the wife I bought another bike... 😬
As a youtuber myself, i will have to commend you for the very very Well put together video. Everything works, the cinematic experience, the b roll, the music - and the speaking vs sound from the actual footage etc. Very Well made video. You got a new sub, alone for your great video making and editing 🔥 Oh Ps: nice bike 😂
Brilliant video, thank you! I think I will have to arrange a test ride on one of these 😁. I really fancy getting into a bit of offroad riding and this seems like the perfect bike for me.
Great video. You completely covered the off-road capabilities of the bike. I'm wondering how it performs for the Touring side of ADV riding. How is this thing at highway speeds for hours at a time? I'm worried that it would be more exhausting on a smaller displacement bike. Cheers!
Thanks Paul! Think if you were going to load it up with luggage and a pillion etc, then maybe not ideal. But I was quite happy at 70-80mph on this bike - no issues. But you would definitely want to sort the screen out as its not great. Hope that helps, Aaron KNOX
Done 1000 Kilometers in one week on small small roads in europe with my wife and luggage. We had great fun to hunt some GS-Groups over the alps and cruise along beautyful landscapes...thats Adventure for us.
Well done. One of the best descriptions I have heard of a bike. I am thinking about one of these but don’t like the Dismissive Arrogance of KTM. But they don’t care what we think.
This is not an adventure bike. It is a street bike in disguise, let us be real here. High seat hight, horrendeous ground clearance, cast wheels, 19 inch front wheel instead of 21, the pegs are a nightmare, flipped into the front of the bike which makes is impossible to have a proper stand in offroad passages.
Brilliant review, I’ve been optioneering this bike and others for some week’s and particularly this little gem the KTM390 there’s a few good RUclips videos on this bike and yours is the best! Decision made this will be my bike!! Thanks

Great bike. Just facing a minor issue on my brand new KTM 390 Adv bike. Everytime i ride it a little stain of fork oil appears on one of the front forks, it is leaking a very minute amount it seems.
Many thanks Chops, most enjoyable project we've worked on from my point of view, what a brilliant bike, great locations and stunning weather, Id have been dying in a pool of sweat without Urbane Pro gear head to toe! 😂 Aaron KNOX
Really hard one tbh! I think performance wise, the KTM has it no doubt in all circumstances. But the Himalayan has super cool styling and a very cool character. Hope that makes sense? Thanks, Aaron KNOX
@@KnoxArmour I'm trying to decide between a KTM adventure and the Himalayan as a first bike. I love the idea of the Himalayan, and it matches what I'm looking to do, but I also have at least a couple hours of highway driving to get where my adventures begin. So many good options, but nothing with the character of the Himalayan.
Great presentation and how your opinion and views nailed it how adventure riding can be started. I am interested in this field and you have made it easier for folks like me to look deeper into this without being intimidated by it. Job well done!
Coming from a long dirt bike riding background and current owner of a KTM 300, the stand-up riding position on the 390 is downright scary. And at 5’5” I’m not tall but I feel like I’m going to be pitched over the bars. The cockpit on the 390 needs to be opened up: pegs lower, flat, and set back. Bars taller and with a little less sweep. Other than that and adding some additional off-road protection, everything you said about the bike is absolutely true. I bought a ‘23-no test ride-and still can’t get over how capable and fun this bike is. My bigger bikes are collecting dust! Fantastic production and scenery in your video. Keep up the good work!
Thank you for this review. Currently riding a Himalayan, which I love but it does leave me wanting a bit more in power. Gained an interest in rally racing and the 390 seems like a great all around package for dabbling in a bit of everything.
Awesome review Aaron, I really liked this one. So, in all honesty, would you consider extended off-road touring with the KTM? By all reports it seems to have pretty decent range too and the seat isn't too bad!
What a glowing tribute to this great little motorcycle. I don't own this bike, the last time I rode was 28 years ago but I have no doubt in my mind that as and when I do consider biking once again, 390 will be high on my list.
You won’t regret it! I’ve got 56 riding under my belt. The last bike before this one was a bmws1000xr. Loved it but, this bike puts the grin on too, in a different light weight more versatile way!
Loved the video! Going through Forums and FB groups, the replies lead me to believe that spoked wheel version is the one to buy. But I love the Tubeless tires! So leaning towards cast wheels. I'm happy to see you could do all of the trails in the video on cast wheels. Hopefully my decision to go cast for light offroading is right!

We did quite a bit of damage to the Himalayan on the same trails that we went on with the Ktm, but had no damage on the ktm. Hope that makes sense. Aaron Knox
What sort of damage did you do out of curiosity? Cosmetic or something more severe?
Royal Enfield is very bad indian bike
@@ghalder1674 : that is complete and total bullshit. I own one and it is a very well built bike. Is it a 20.000 euro bike? No. Is it an amazing bike for the money? ABSOLUTELY. People talk shit without ever seeing one in real life. And in the last 25 years I have owned about 40 motorcycles from every make and type. Enfield nowadays builds very good bikes.

Great video, I have one for over a year and love it, great combination of street and dirt,I get many compliments bike is really good looking 😀
it baffles me that this bike comes without the crash bars in other markets. i've layed this bike down probably 5 times off-road and the bars completely save it from any real damage. i love my adv390, its a great way to just shut out the world and have some fun again
Pretty late to the watch party, but man o man. Amazing ! They say, good stuff never ages
Beautiful bike. The KTM 390 Adventure is awesome 👌
We agree!
a yt channel I watched says:
-engine dies at high rpm (he has the valves loosened)
-stock chain good for only 6k miles (he replaced it with one good for 20k miles.. plus suggested to change immediately so sprocket and new chain can meld together (not wait for stock chain to wear bef. replacing it)
-rear shock valve wears and fluid starts leaking due to heat from the way too close exhaust resonator (he offered no solution unfortunately)
-fork suspension valve leaks (he suggested it's from factory assembly)

Feels like am watching discovery channel after hearing his voice and the transition .....
Many thanks!!! All the best, Aaron KNOX
KTM adventure 390 vs the BMW 310GS? Which one would you pick?
Haven't ridden the 310gs, but hard to think it would be as good. Thanks, Aaron KNOX
@@KnoxArmour if you make a video on it someday, it'll be great! The new 2021 GS310 with the LED lights. Thanks Aaron. Love your videos. Cheers!
Great vid, thank you! BTW, what boots are those?
Unbelievably good review. Made the hairs on my arm raise!
Many thanks Steven! So glad you enjoyed it! Aaron KNOX
Wonderful video, thanks!
I bought this bike this summer. My first 2 wheeler. And I'm over 50 yo.. 😄
I love this bike. Just for me. Easy to drive and light enough. I want to make a trip to northern Finland next summer. And I'm sure this will be a great partner there.
Thanks and glad you like it. Confidence is so importance when riding and the 390 Adventure is brilliant for that! Aaron KNOX
Hi,how do you compare 390 with cfmoto 450? Thanks
Thanks and glad to hear the same feedback! Aaron KNOX
Great review. Excellent content👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
I’ve owned my 390 for 6 months and done most of the upgrades you mentioned. Road 250 miles on Sunday 50% off-road on the Fosse Way with enduro riders. I think they were a little surprised.
I am going to book one... On Monday... Thanks for the review😇
Thanks! Yes, totally, can happily do most trails on the 390 adventure alongside enduro bikes! Aaron KNOX
Great review guys, what's the song in the intro? Thanks!
Rotem Moav - Spirits of the Woods
Ktm should watch this.. and give you a sponsorship!
Aaron Knox
I swear it's music from Elder Scrolls game
What a brilliant review great wee roads same as here in Scotland, I’ve got one it’s fantastic
Thanks David, roads in Scotland are amazing!! Aaron KNOX
Adventure belongs to the rider, not to the piece of metal underneath you. Jeez that's so damn right. I'm confiused between SmcR, EnduroR or this one... I might go to this one..
Thanks! Quite different bikes, the Enduro R and SMCR are higher performance but more focused, whereas this is more allrounder! Thanks, Aaron KNOX
@@KnoxArmour Thanks for the response! Also, do you think that the stock tires can handle a bit more wet terrain?
This is way better than new KTM 650 KLR. More horsepower, lighter, led headlight, TFT, adjustable suspension. Stability control with cornering ABS. Less expensive than KLR. Lighter off road bikes makes for more fun.
Great review and great video footage!! the KTM 390 seems like a good deal for the money and would be a fun bike!!
Thanks Greg! Aaron KNOX
Can you please review the R1250gsa really looking at buying the bike, love your channel!!
Would love to. However, Im sure its the most popular bike by far in UK for good reason. Aaron KNOX
Many thanks Anita! The 390 is a great next step up. THanks, Aaron KNOX
Many thanks for your kind feedback. Its a really cool machine! Super enjoyed riding it! Aaron KNOX
Outstanding observation and fantastic point of view 👍
If you ride in offrode mode traction control is mostly disabled automatically.
I have fitted the 790 screen to mine and it works okay
You got a new sub, alone for your great video making and editing 🔥
Oh Ps: nice bike 😂
Many thanks for the kind feedback. Yes, we make a big effort. Thanks, Aaron KNOX
Brilliant video, thank you! I think I will have to arrange a test ride on one of these 😁. I really fancy getting into a bit of offroad riding and this seems like the perfect bike for me.
Great video man 🤘🤘🤘. And KTM 390 Adventure Is So So Beautiful Machine 🤩😘
@@KnoxArmour Thanks for your reply! Much appreciated. Cheers.
Thanks

For this KTM 390 and another KTM bike Husqvarva 701 you previously experienced ( ruclips.net/video/2h0NoY7XIqs/видео.html) which one is better?
701 enduro no doubt... but its twice the price and not strictly an adventure bike. Thanks Aaron Knox
Any issues stalling?ok I should have waited ✋.
Would you prefer buying royal enfield Himalayan or the ktm 390 ADV ?
Many thanks Chris! So glad you found it helpful. All the best, Aaron KNOX
Mate, you honestly do the BEST reviews... Period.
Many thanks Peter! Aaron KNOX
Thanks James! You could also consider the new Himalayan which has power to match the 390? Aaron KNOX
Awesome review Aaron, I really liked this one. So, in all honesty, would you consider extended off-road touring with the KTM? By all reports it seems to have pretty decent range too and the seat isn't too bad!
Thanks! Yes, 100% the KTM would be an awesome longer distance adventure bike. Thanks, Aaron KNOX
@@KnoxArmour thanks Aaron for the reply. Off to test ride one in the coming weeks. Thanks again!
What a glowing tribute to this great little motorcycle. I don't own this bike, the last time I rode was 28 years ago but I have no doubt in my mind that as and when I do consider biking once again, 390 will be high on my list.
Many thanks, so glad you think so! Aaron KNOX
You won’t regret it! I’ve got 56 riding under my belt. The last bike before this one was a bmws1000xr. Loved it but, this bike puts the grin on too, in a different light weight more versatile way!

@@KnoxArmour Keep making great videos. Especially on ktm motorcycles 🤩🤘
Wonderful review. Thanx.!!!!

Really impressed by the camera work and production quality! Well done. You really sold me on getting one of these this summer 🏍️ Keep up the good work!
Great video and review! Looking forward to riding it. I also found the 'Adventurous Nepal Tour' by Dream Chaser on 390 adventure to be fascinating in terms of the really rough terrain it could handle.
Great video , I was really looking for adventure bike this video helped me to fix the bike it’s certainly going to be 390a , in my opinion there is no point in taking heavy monsters to tough terrains like SanZar in india .
