This channel is secretly one of the best. thanks for sharing. I bought the Action X40 V2 six months ago and I get excited to use it every day. Thanks for making such a wonderful product, it solved my "Why do I have three bags when I travel?" problem. I never leave home without it just endless space for everything in my life- 3 cameras, numerous lenses, ipad, macbook, steamdeck, and tons of other stuff. its ridiculous like a Tardis bigger on the inside. I've covered it in travel patches lol and I get compliments on it all the time!
Just want to let you know that I initially bought the Explorer V2 and thought the hip belt and shoulder straps were horrible, HOWEVER I immediately put it at the L setting which I do with all my backpacking packs, had the sternum strap all the way up (I have a 20 inch torso), and it fit very badly and the hip belt didn't seem sturdy enough to hold the bag up. BUT I recently thought I would give the Action X 40 v2 a chance and I initially set it up in the S setting, saw your video about keeping the sternum strap low, and it fit perfect, I then went back to my Explore V2 and did the same and it also fit perfect. I know it sounds bad but I just thought it was a design flaw, nope it was just me that was flawed. I now love the bag and its become my favorite bag. I own about $6,000 worth of bags (its an addiction, and I'm not kidding, these bags cost around $450 each and I have around 14 bags from various manufacturers) so I have the experience and knowledge of using camera bags (and hiking backpacks). So I would like to apologize for all the bad reviews I gave to people about your bag. I think I am going to have to do a review of these bags now as they have taken the place of my thinktank mindshift and rotation series bags ( I own all of those in every size).
Don't worry I think we are all flawed in some way. Funny you mentioned the sternum strap as I have recently been using some off-brand bags snowboarding with the idea of improving on our fit but constantly found the sternum straps riding up and packs becoming loose. Very happy to have concluded that portion of my R&D and be back in the Shimoda harness :)
Great video, some of the footage reminds me a lot of Ueno. Really looking forward to my upcoming trip to Hiroshima & Kyoto this coming October. Maybe I'll be able to check out the Urban Explore while I'm there.
I got off the train at Ueno Station and walked to Akihabara from there. So somewhat in the area. Later in the video was Shimabashi. Have a good trip. Ian
Fantastic video. Loved the Tokyo pics, makes me miss it so much. There's something about the city especially the night shots that just have that special kind of feel that only Tokyo has. You're definitely making me fall for the UE25. Can't wait for them to get to the EU so I can order mine.
I have the Explore V2 and now I'm enjoying the Urban Explore 20L so much as my EDC! Didn't know Yodobashi carries Shimoda, would have loved to get some accessories when I was in Tokyo last summer.
They have had our gear almost since the start... with that said it tends to move fast, at least every time I am in there inventory is low. Which I guess is a good problem to have (at times). Happy to hear about the EU20 - thank you!
@@ShimodaDesigns Moving inventory is definitely a good problem! Anyway, after using this for a week plus now, I realized how I missed having top access to the main compartment in the UE compared to the Explorer V2. haha
Oh man I miss Japan.. planning to go back next May. Should have my UE25 by then.. right? RIGHT?? Not sure I would try capsule hotels though.. so claustrophobic lol
You should have it well before then. They are worth a stay at least once if solo. They're also are quite spacious other than the bed - even then it's not that bad, but I am not a big fellow. This one had an open bar - first one I've seen - so theres that ;)
@@ShimodaDesigns that's great! I remember hiking in Japan with a relatively large book about the Japanese concept of "Wa". Can't wait to receive my UE20!
Around here they are very elusive, that was the friendliest one I’ve seen around. Impossible to get images or video of them. Amazed I caught him twice :)
Again some fantastic shots, the low angles worked really well 👍 What kind of focal length range did you end up picking for such a dense place as Tokyo, just the holy trinity or?
I packed a 24-70, 12-24 and my Fuji as the equivalent of a 35mm. I mostly used the 24-70, never used the 12-24 and a few shots with the Fuji. I like the more accurate - not distorting ranges for this type of stuff.
I've ordered the 25L for my upcoming trip to Japan (I hope i get it in time). Just curious. Why couldn't you make a 16" laptop fit the 20L? 😢 I'm hunting for a new backpack and am between this one and the new Nomatic Luma 18L which can hold a 16" MacBook...
Hi Kevin, volume isn't the same measurement as the dimensions. You could fit a 16MBP is a 5 liter bag if it had dimensions that suited the shape. Also other smaller products may have dimensions that work for a 16MBP if there overall design allows it. Frames, other features, shape and what the pack is for, all have an influence on it. The 25L is your pack for that a 16MBP. Hope that makes sense.
Gah I really want to get this pack but 300 usd is almost the same price as the action x which I feel like I had to eat convini onigiri for a year to make up the cost.
@@ShimodaDesigns haha it powered me through many an adventure in the alps. Alas, found a boundary supply errant at their outlet for $60. Maybe next time, if I save up for a couple years 😂
No external straps on these bags, better off with the Explore series if you have that type of need. Or depending on your jacket size, in the front pocket.

I really love this series of movie and the backpack too! Are you filming everything by yourself?
In this one, yes unfortunately.

Shimoda!how you doing?. Bravo- that's excellent dji!adios~
昨日ちょうど動画内のヨドバシアキバ店でshimoda製品買って帰ってきたところでこの動画を拝見したら、まさかのイアンミラーさんが同じ売り場を以前訪問されていたなんてと急に身近に感じました♪

oh just realized that you are living in my hometown in Nagano city
Just purchased an Urban Explorer 25l...and caught this video. If you don't mind me asking, what book were you reading?
I was wondering the same thing! I googled the words, and turns out the book is quoted on Goodreads. It's Magic Words by Jonah Berger.
Luv the pics! Cant wait to receive the UE20
Thank you
Did you just put an entire book in the laptop compartment? 😍
The actual laptop sleeve is in the front panel, this sleeve is for any similar shaped object (including laptops). Great for books.

There a 20L episode up, check the channel Urban Explore playlist.

WANT TO BUY A Urban Explore 25 - Boa!But it's already sold out on kickstarter T.T How can I get one now?let me know PLEASE!!!
I would get the 30 if you need to buy it now. Otherwise you need to wait until March.
What camera did you use to film yourself in tokyo?
Hi, the self-filming is iphone 15 pro.
Gah I really want to get this pack but 300 usd is almost the same price as the action x which I feel like I had to eat convini onigiri for a year to make up the cost.
pretty sure I could survive on Tuna Mayo or Sakka onigiri for a long time... plus you can keep them pretty organized in the Core Unit.

Any way to attach external straps to accommodate a jacket, etc?
No external straps on these bags, better off with the Explore series if you have that type of need. Or depending on your jacket size, in the front pocket.
20L models no longer available, can you add more quantity?
Sorry we can not…
wonder whether hip belt features are capable of.
Hi, There isn’t a hip belt.
When will these get to the EU?
March 1st
