Something else... when you buy a fragrance after seeing a good review on someone’s channel that you trust and two months later she declutters the same fragrance because it’s not good! What?! Excellent video!

These things don’t annoy me but I do take notice:
-Bashing a fragrance because it’s too popular ie La Vie a Belle
-Mispronouncing the fragrance name and using the excuse “I don’t speak French”
-Wasting perfume by spraying the bottle a million times like it’s an air freshener
    Love your channel❤️

Omggggg I hate when reviewers all get on the bandwagon & drag “crowd-pleasing” scents & bash a designer that makes a generic scent. Little do they know, designers do not make fragrances for THEM, they make it for the masses. It’s so BASIC to bash a basic scent.

Most of those things don’t bother me, but the ones that do are: never giving a bad review, not printing the name of the perfume on the screen, long tedious intros, and mispronunciation of the fragrances name. That last one really gets me.

I kinda have multiple issues with this video. I respect your opinion 100%. I just don’t know how I feel about a fellow fragrance reviewer gently throwing shade at an entire community of fragrance reviewers. I am deffo guilty of a few of these things. I review samples but most of the time I’m familiar with the fragrance and have worn it many times leading up to the review. I worked in a perfume shop so, that solves that. The unboxing thing? I’ve never done it on my channel but some people really like to see the entire product before they buy, some people display their boxes in their home and some boxes are actually so beautiful (amouage I’m looking at you). Top tens! I have multiple comments of subscribers that tell me that top tens are their favourite videos of mine. Yeah repeating is kinda annoying but if they are your too 10 and things you own? They’re gonna come up over and over, it’s your taste right? Selling perfume? I don’t ever think that I’m trying to “sell” perfume in my videos. I’m merely sharing knowledge and my opinion on how somethjng smells. I don’t see my RUclips channel as a job. Mis pronouncing things. Girl, people in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones. You said eXPecislly , rowja dove and jaguire? (In your video recently) It’s ESpecially, jaguar and (roja, like the name roger but he glammed it up) no hate here just... putting something out there like this is obviously gonna cause people react. You’re glam. You’re beautiful but everyone is different during their fragrance journey. I pronounced “geurlain” wrong for so many years... not everyone has the “perfume speak” right off the bat! My biggest issue is commenting on people’s appearance, sometimes I just wanna flood out my thoughts on a great perfume I’ve found (kinda the idea of my channel) ya don’t always wanna get dressed up to the nines every.... single.... time! What I’m saying should be so much more important than what I’m wearing. If it was a fashion channel? I get it but not for perfume. You are perpetuating the idea that perfume is for the riches: I will wear my effing vintage bal a Versailles to go to the shops. There’s such a Stigma ya know? Someone commented once on the top I was wearing in a video rather than what I said and it’s just so irritating. Do you wanna Wanna know how it smells? Or do you want my nose to be wearing a tiara? My nose is the same no matter WHAT I’m wearing! Anyway.... rant over. This video is judgy, gently judgy and cloaked in honesty but really, everyone is different. Final note. You hate top tens right? So why did you do a video about ten things that drive you crazy? Lmao. Come on now. 🤣🤣

I have to agree with ouch110. I love you Ouch110, by the way. Eva should have used this video to give advice on how to be better perfume reviewer and be more positive in her approach. I like Eva because she speaks about grown ass woman stuff, but I am disappointed. I even took a break from watching Eva after seeing just the tittle of this video. By the way, I have a channel where I talk about my fragrances and art collection. I am not trying to be competitive. I have another job full time. I just feel that as a Black woman, Eva needs to just uplift others. Not throw shade at others, many of whom, it is clear are Black women that she has even collaborated with. I am a native French Creole woman and speaks French fluently, but sometimes I pronounce the perfume names with an English accent just so that People who speak English can relate to the names a little bit better. So even the French pronunciation thing ain’t need to be that serious a problem. I have also noticed that some of the reviewers who do sample it is because it is clear they don’t have money to purchase those fragrances. I happen to make a lot of money and can afford my fragrances, but it seems insensitive to talk about others who cannot afford to buy unnecessary things like perfumes , given their budget, just to make a video about them. Next is appearance. I have not seen any reviewer who look as bad as she described them. On another note in a different video, I was surprised when Eva said she watches no other perfume video , except maybe the Bow Tie Guy. And she said that the only person she like was Demi Rowling. I was surprised she did not not mention other young Black reviewers, especially those she had collaborated with as a way to boost their viewership, like Demi did for her.

You are one of my favorite reviewers. You aren’t who she is talking about. I have seen another smaller youtubers steal your “Good good!” comment, but she uses it very differently. It will be her sole description of the product.
As to pronunciation, everyone struggles with unique names the first time (Roja Dove), but there are people that can’t read and can’t say things like “Ciao” Or “”Femme.” It’s embarrassing. Relax, you aren’t the target here. You’re a pro! 😘

I’m a very small channel that has only just started out and I only own perfumes that I love or at least like, so therefore I wouldn’t honestly be able to produce a negative review of something that often. I also feel that 2ml is a fair amount of perfume to work with, and I’ve never had an issue watching reviews which use samples at all. Buying samples also means that the reviewer is more likely to come across a scent they don’t quite like as much, and could then do a more critical review on it. As for unboxings, I’ve always really enjoyed watching them. 🤷🏻‍♀️ 💕

I dont really got too bothered by anything in frag vids, except if there is straight up disrespect. I also do most of these and will continue to do so lol. But because we are both grown women (who have our own preferences) in what we watch I do understand that we have different pet peeves but that doesn’t mean we should passively hate on one another. I’ve got to disagree with a point. I don’t think you need to spend hundreds on fragrances to share in this hobby. Reviewers aren’t always trying to sell ultra-expensive fragrances. I don’t equate fragrance with luxury, even though it’s not a necessity. I don’t mind reviews on samples as long as they are honest about having a sample and limited experience with it. Most people will do “first impressions.” Fine. I don’t need reviewers to buy bottles of everything they want to share. I love hearing about scents even if I won’t buy a bottle. And I don’t require my friends to always look 💯 or drive fancy cars, so why would I require someone reviewing fragrances to get dressed up? Just be yourself. Fragrance is not a front; it’s not (always) about perception. It’s about enjoying scent, right? Talking about scent? Not pretending to be rich or looking like you’re interviewing. Of course, that’s just my opinion, and you are just sharing yours, but thought I might provide a perspective from someone that doesn’t spend thousands in fragrances but still spends hours watching and reading reviews. ✌🏼

What bothers me about the no samples rule is that it can become about how many bottles you own, or how much money you’ve spent on really expensive scents. When we say that a reviewer should only talk about full bottles she has purchased, we are basically saying if you aren’t able/willing to spend an arm and a leg on this hobby then get a new hobby. I look at reviewing fragrances as a fun hobby, but I also have three kids to send to college one day, so...I’m going to review an occasional sample.

    • @boogiepimp78

I don't equate fragrance reviewing to sales people selling 250,000 dollar vehicles. I also don't believe one must be well groomed at all times to justify his or her choice to buy $400 bottles of perfume. These are personal choices which should be non issues to the rest of us doing our own thing. I've actually never seen someone looking like they just rolled out of a dumpster doing fragrance reviews on RUclips, personally. Some things can be like nails on a chalk board, like how someone speaks, but I can usually reconcile my annoyances within a few minutes if they have any redeeming qualities about them.

Eva, every point was on point, especially saying the name incorrectly all the time, not knowing the notes (like a teacher coming to class and not knowing the syllabus), and unboxings/first impressions. There are 2 other things I don't like:
    1) I've been seeing this lately, where the reviewer literally tells you (in the title) that he's about to do an honest review (which makes me think you're about to lie [or, at least] exaggerate)
    2) When a reviewer reviews another reviewer's fragrance line (if you're friends with that reviewer, are you actually going to bash his fragrance?) You should just tell the truth, that you're doing a commercial for your friend. That's it, that's all.

Im a new fragrance reviewer 50 subs to be exact, at first few minutes I thought of this as offensive and kinda unrespectful but if you look it the other way I realized you are just being honest and critical and as a newbie there are some things to IMPROVE not change because if we change entirely that is being not who we are anymore. It doesn’t hurt to listen honesty than fake appraisal. For this I truly appreciate your content. All the best.

  • @kdmil2002

Number 10 is huge!! If reviewers don't want to trash a perfume, then they should just say, "This might not be for everyone, so this might not be the best perfume to blind buy." A perfect example of this is everyone pushing Libre when it came out. I bought it blind because of all of the reviews. Thankfully, I love the bottle and it looks beautiful on the tray. However, that perfume does not smell good. All they had to do was balance the lavender a little more and it could have been a keeper. As it stands, it is a nose burner straight out of the bottle, and all of you reviewers know this. One thing I hate to see on a perfume review is the reviewer constantly messing with their hair and worrying about their makeup. I agree that the reviewer needs to be well put together, but some of my favorite reviewers are men who are sitting in a bare bones room with a plaid shirt on. They know their stuff, and they give it to you straight, no chaser. Yes!! Of course, you are a class act, Eva, and I do search out your videos. Just the variety and diversity of fragrances that are on display lets me know you are the real deal.

  • @Cloudburst2000
    @Cloudburst2000 4 года назад +11

I don't mind people doing a review on a small sample. Not all small samples are received from Nordstroms, etc. I have a ton of small samples from places like Luckyscent who give samples when you order a fragrance, and I have purchased small samples also as I don't like to blind buy expensive fragrances. I do think the reviewer needs to put a decent amount of the sample on to get a good gist of the fragrance. Instead of dabbing on a small sample, I hold it against my wrist and pour a bit on which is more similar to the amount I would spray, but otherwise, I don't have an issue with reviews based on small samples.
I mostly dislike when fragrance reviewers have a new favorite fragrance every week. 'OMG, this is the best fragrance EVER!.' The next week, 'OMG, this is the best fragrance EVER!' and so forth. I also hate too many top 10 lists. Top 10 fragrances for your mom, top 10 fragrances for your grandma, etc, and they usually hash the same stuff over and over again in these lists. Give us something NEW! Too many lists just gets BORING. I don't mind top 10 where they are discussing a particular note...top 10 amber, top 10 animalic, top 10 vanilla. Those I am okay especially if it is a category of fragrance that I like, but the other top 10 lists just get on my nerves and I don't tend to watch them.
And I have both Bat and Jungle Jezebel🤣

    • @AH-yu2pi
      @AH-yu2pi 4 года назад

Eh, that Bat, Jungle Jezebel, "scent yo(ur) city" rant was a misinterpretation of reviewers pointing out what fragrances are repeatedly worn in their city. They're not referring to the actual scent of the streets , alleys, etc. Just what is commonly worn by the locals.

The one thing that really bothers me is being rude and obnoxious to a subscriber just because he/she may feel a bit differently about a certain perfume. I just feel like way too many times I’ve witnessed perfume reviewers legit cursing subscribers out. OMG This is my 3rd time commenting.🙄 I love this topic! I also really dislike when reviewers who only buy niche or review primarily niche perfumes put down designer and celebrity fragrances like they are so terrible. While it is true that there are designer and celebrity fragrances that smell cheap or have poor performance, the same is also true of niche/expensive perfumes. I would venture to say that if blind sniff tests were done, there are plenty of designer and/or celebrity scents that niche snobs would love. A perfect example would be Tom Ford. His scents are designer scents. They are unique and they are performance beasts. One squirt of Black Orchid could out-perform all of the Jo Malone or MFK scents combined.

I love tag and top 10 lists. That’s me. 😄 I do like them to have a theme tho. Even “Top 10 Work” fragrances is pretty subjective because everyone’s work environment isn’t the same. Some people work at a zoo and others in a law firm, so...? I like ones focused on profiles, accords, or notes the best.
Also, I am one of those people that can get a week’s wear from a small vial. (Mind you- I don’t want anyone smelling me across the office.)
I have a small channel and I don’t have full negative reviews. I just don’t see the point in making a video talking about something I don’t care about because, I don’t like it. I sample and move right along. (The exceptions are videos with multiple scents and discovery set impressions.)
I’m with you on unboxing vids. Hate them with the fire of a thousand suns. TBH, I don’t even like to watch people spend time talking about the bottle. I’m thinking, “This is a video. I can *see* it. So, why...?”
Also- remember when everyone was talking about that damn bird?! Ugh! I see it in a title and skip right past it. Spend 7 minutes talking about a subscription service, 3 minutes about the actual fragrances. Stalking assed bird. LOL (Cuba’s was funny tho.)
Another irksome thing...when reviewers do talk about ALL the notes but it’s clear (from the way they talk about the fragrance) that they aren’t smelling them. Just weaving a piece of prose. I’d rather they not mention any of them and just describe honestly what *they* smell.
Also, “Ermmygod...this smells so sexy. So good...” Meanwhile they never describe what it smells like to them in any real way. “Sexy” is subjective. It may be caramel and whip cream to you- but it’s leather to me. In my mind “sexy” has a little stank on it. If it doesn’t, stop playing child.

I tend to sit on em or make it clear that I'm not too sure what direction it's suppose to go or what's asked of me; top 5's and 10's list I feel like you run out of content and frags which makes it repetitive ASF.(but it brings subs) I do them bc its like Q&A for my channel. As reviewers, and unlike other niches they have fun, interactive, detailed Q&A's and challenges. The Fragrance community happens to be lists. . Redundant and repetitive ones at times. I love a good unboxing tho. For me, it brings the viewer on the journey of my Fragrance BUT I get the point of watching an unboxing in an entire haul. Good take, Sis ✊🏽

Lot of folks weighed in on this one, and here’s my one cent opinion to follow...agree, don’t look shabby when doing a review. If in T-shirt & jeans, that’s cool too, just don’t be sloppy in appearance.
My biggest pet peeve, is when reviewers or even posts in fragcom, where the background or backdrop is jacked up, sloppy. If doing a review in your closet, fix the clothes on the hanger, and stuff on the racks. How hard is that? Try actually hanging the stuff up on the hanger, Or the bed is unmade or unwashed dishes on the counter, there’s stuff all over the floor in your pictures. It’s tacky and quite honestly reveals how you really live. Sorry, maybe it’s me, but everything works together for me. Don’t front. Clean up or do your videos and pictures somewhere else.
Also, when doing reviews, would be nice to not only wear what looks good but what’s comfortable and sits and stays where you want it. If it’s riding up and you have to keep pulling and adjusting, 🤷🏻‍♀️ that may not be the outfit for the day. Wear what’s comfortable to do the review.
One last cent, if anyone has ever seen the movie Hitch, close to the end when Will Smith gets to the yacht, that’s actually NYC. So, truth be told, not all of NY smells like 42nd Street, Times Square of the 70’s & 80’s. When people hear NYC, what usually comes to mind is Manhattan. There are so many other places that make up the NYC. When I lived in the south, one person said, what stuck out to him when he went to NY was there were no trees. If you’re in Manhattan, it’s a city, it’s downtown with buildings. Many “cities” don’t have an influx of trees. But once you go into the suburban areas of NY, nothing but pollen. So, just matters what part of the city like anywhere else. Again, I’m just humbly saying.
As always, thank you Miss Eva!

I can't agree MORE on your first point about people doing a full blown review based on a 2ml sample. I've had many experiences in the past where I've gotten very poor performance in terms of projection, sillage, and longevity from a 2ml sample, but after I re-tested the same fragrance from a full tester bottle in the store the performance was much better and even the scent became much more robust. A 2ml sample gives you only first impressions at best and are not reliable for getting a true experience. A legitimate fragrance review should be based on at least a 10ml decant in order to be fair and realistic.

Some tag videos and top ten lists are silly but some are actually helpful and fun.
