    Here is the 'uncut' version of the oil change video that I did some time ago, the one thing I wish I had done differently in this video is that I would have shown putting a little bit of oil into the filter before installation as this would help with lubrication during start up.

    This was a great video! I'm a simple girl who knows nothing about vehicles, but in the past year I've had to rely on RUclips to teach me a few things. I'm about to go do my very first oil change and after watching your video I'm feeling extremely sure I can accomplish this. Thanks again!

    Thanks! great video.
    I tried yesterday but the oil filter wouldn't budge and being all out of my medication, I kind of went bezerk with a sledgehammer, felt good on the moment but I noticed that a lot of little things broke off or came loose, and all sorts of fluids were accumulating under the car. So I started it in order to back it up and it's at that point I first saw flames, I didn't outright panic when it was evident that the garage was on fire but when the house became engulfed in a raging inferno I must admit that I lost it. Thank god I was working in my neighbor's garage! or I would have had a real bad day.
    Now that I encountered all this problems I can see it was a good idea to get some practice on someone else car, I wish my oil filter will be more cooperative, but if it is stuck too what to do?

    Pro tip: Make sure you can remove the oil filter first. Sucks to have to drain the oil, come to an issue that the filter wont budge, requiring you to go to a automotive store to get an oil wrench, but its either 2am, or you need a car to get there. So you either SOL for the night, or end up not changing the filter and wasting new oil.

    • @oo0Spyder0oo
      @oo0Spyder0oo 10 лет назад +19

      No wrench?Just punch a screw driver through the can and turn. You don't need the can again anyway. Of course the oil should be drained prior to doing this. Guaranteed to work, I do it every time.

    Your videos are very helpful, they're to the point an always on topic, and been a first time driver its hard to get to grips with what you're doing when most people tend to go off topic and explain things you haven't/aren't skilled enough to learn just yet. Keep 'em comin man! :)

  • @rharris7426
    @rharris7426 9 лет назад +3

    Good tutorial. Many European cars you can change the oil and filter without any jacks or stands at all. If you have a driveway that slopes down to road level you can use that to in effect raise the front of the car to reach underneath without any danger. If you have long enough arms you can change the oil just by reaching under. Again this is probably for many European cars and is safer than any axle stand that I personally would not trust. If you have the option this is safer.

    The only part of this video that I didn't like was you adding a bit extra oil. If the manufacturer recommends 4.7 quarts but you put in 5, that's not right, especially when you're doing an instructional video. I think the message for oil capacity should be "Follow the manufacturer's recommendation". Other than that, great video.

      .3 quarts isn't gonna do anything bad... though your pushing it once you get past the .2 to .3 mark.
      Subarus are an excellent example... some hold 4.9 or 5.1.... I just dump the whole five quart jug in and be done with it. No need to measure out tenths of a quart....

    He is as step by step as can be. I have a 2000 Dodge Neon and learned through one of his videos how to get my heater working again without having to take it to a mechanic. Wasn't looking for it - I was trying to fix another problem - but it still came in handy. And he was working the problem/solution on a completely different vehicle in the video. What I like about ETCG videos is that he is able to dumb it down for people who know almost nothing about cars without actually making them FEEL dumb.

    Great video. My vehicle has a cast aluminium sump pan with a torque setting for the drain plug.
    Also, I prime the filter by turning the engine over with the plugs removed via a road wheel until there's a noticeable drop in oil level on the dipstick. It only takes a minute or two and feel it's a good idea which avoids running the engine for a period with no oil pressure.

    Call it suspenders and a belt, but I always set the emergency brake and I always chock both the non raised wheels before crawling under any car. Except, of course, when doing rear brakes.
    I made the mistake of double gasketing once, and I'll never do that again. It was a near miss that could have fried my engine if I hadn't noticed. Knowing how you can seriously screw up is what experience shows you. Vicarious gold, for those who want a steeper learning curve here on RUclips.

    Also, I tightened oil pan bolt many years ago & it leaked so since then I wrap a few turns of plumbers white Teflon tape around the mating surface of the bolt washer. Never had a leak since & more importantly never had to change the bolt washer.

    I am pleased with my oil filter setup. It has a plastic housing around one of the paper only filters. The cool thing is that there is a second drain plug in the bottom of the housing for no mess, and the housing is made for a 36 mm socket. Works like a charm.

    The filter on my car is top as well , the cartridge type , and the drain plug is right at front of the sump at the front of the engine , so it's easy to get at without jacking the car up , being of wiry build I can reach under without much problem, it's a job I quite enjoy , changing the oil , something very satisfying about it .

    Good stuff - covered everything - including the importance of environmentally friendly and safe disposal of old oil! Oh I do have a suggestion...just occurred to me: Yes definitely warm the car up so oil nice and warm to flow better... but I was always told to remove your dipstick and the oil engine cap.. before undoing the drain plug/sump plug. That doing helps allow for a better flow of getting all the old oil out. (BTW I've had a Futomo Valve for 4 years, and I love it.. like a tap.)

    Now there's an authentic oil filter from Japan - I can almost read it. I guess 12 years living there would qualify me. Thanks for the videos! Very educational and to the point.
