Great effort Ian and yes, I too love my Atto3.
On the topic of "how to let BYD know our concerns" I recently spent nearly 3 hours with a delightful young woman from BYD China detailing my list of issues. She patiently listened and asked for clarification when necessary. I felt really heard. I've yet to see any results however. She did warn me that BYD is a large company and cannot make changes without the many and varied meetings a large company such as BYD must deal with.
Anyway, of the items you have put forward in this video, there are only 2 that I feel strongly about....and they are:
    1. One pedal driving. In my Atto3 I cannot notice any difference between the 2 regen settings. The HIGH setting should be One Pedal Driving in my opinion and I live in hope that an OTA will bring it on.
    2. The dashboard behind the steering wheel has a lot of really great information on it but as you say it is very hard to read some of it. Especially as I have had cataract surgery and my near sight is not as good as it used to be. The chosen font makes it difficult to differentiate between a 6 and an 8 for example, plus the font sizes and colours are not helpful either. I agree, a redesign would be much appreciated.
I have found the new dynamic range prediction to be very accurate, especially as your SOC gets close to empty. In fact I ran my battery to zero and the car stopped and the lights went out. Believe it or not I was only several hundred meters from a fast charger. I waited a few minutes to give the battery a chance to "regroup" and low and behold, the car booted up and I was able to crawl to the charger.
There is one more issue I would like to see applied....namely SPORT mode should also set the steering and braking to SPORT also. NORMAL or ECO should similarly turn these setting off. I travel on roads that are sometimes narrow and windy where SPORT everything is preferred and at other times the roads are relatively straight and spacious where comfort is a higher priority. Presently I have to take my attention to the Infotainment screen and drill down to the appropriate section to turn on the SPORT mode for steering and braking.
Finally I have had my Atto3 for 18 months, I've done 36,000 km on 5 trips from the Central Coast to Hobart, one to Lismore and another to Mudgee. My overall average consumption is 14.4 kW / 100km which seems to be quite low compared to other Atto3 owners. Driving around the Central Coast I routinely get as low as 11 kW / 100km.
Incidentally I for one do not use Facebook so I am unable to join your group.

Agree, I have written to the company about this and they acknowledged my letter suggesting it is in the list of upgrades. More pressure might help as it is a seemingly small, easily fixed problem that spoils an otherwise excellent vehicle.

I never use the Sat/Nav as i use my phone most of the time. However, i feel that the Sat/Nav should be a little more like ABRP so that it can direct you to charging stations along your route.

Thx Ian, all good suggestions...I think we will have major issues going forward with warranty...I have had several issues, only to be told from the Atto 3 mechanic " that is how it is" ..like a Concerning knock I get through the front end/steering wheel on initial take off, have been told they THINK this is something to do with a charge system thermostat...!?

Hello there , having just received my Seal AWD I do know of the let downs of the software.
I find when having the radio or any type of music on , you can’t hear the say nav commands, even when you turn the volume to maximum.
It is okay whilst just listening to say nav only but sound only comes from one speaker.
I would like it to work like my BMW whilst listening to music the music mutes whilst there’s a sat nav command.
Another thing I would like to see is send destination through the app to sat nav of car do you can just drive away plus sat nav built into the head up display.
Of course I know everyone has their own wishes but of all the cars I’ve had I find the BMW apps to be one of the best.
Keep up your good work on your videos.
    Best wishes from the UK.
(As we have just got the roll out of the Seal’s we are behind on the software updates by around 3months compared to Australia etc.)

Any of the changes you put forward would be of benefit Ian, but for me right now my biggest concern is that we cannot use Tesla V3 Superchargers its been 7 - 8 months since this was discovered and all we hear from BYD is crickets. Even though Telsa chargers are more costly overall, it is another option when you are travelling long distances, let's face it, the more options the better especially with more and more EV's on the road (which is a good thing).

DC charging algorithm also needs work. At the moment DC charging causes rapid gate and this could be easily avoided! DC charging ramps down to 50kW when highest cell reaches 46 celsius. The problem with this is the "intelligent temperature control" when rapid charging. It starts ramping up the A/C to cool down the battery and this ramping up time (10minutes) causes the over heating. Just make it so if DC charging is over 60kW AND battery temp is over 25c, ramp up the A/C to max cooling instantly without a ramp up time.
This would make the rapid charging curve insanely smooth and keep 88kW charging speed up to or close to 60-70% soc.

Ian, agree 100% Atto 3 is very good car but software needs work to make this a great car. While it seems to have annoyed many, I'd like the >30klms Pedestrian sound brought back, with some volume control (for those early morning work starts). I had multiple times where that sound help people around me realise the car was moving, including myself when i wasn't paying complete attention to what i was doing. Removing the sound was a step backwards.

OK. I'm an Atto 3 owner. I support Ian's list but overall I'm fine with the vehicle and its capabilities.
What I don't understand is the preoccupation with getting Tesla's V3 Supercharging for the Atto 3 .
The Atto can't use anything above 90KW DC. Some have said here that it is a deal breaker.
    That is patently ridiculous.
There are many commercial charging stations out there and in combination outnumber Tesla's network. I personally have never used a Tesla charger and don't intend to. I don't need one.
Why do people hold such views?

  • @rohankilby4499
    @rohankilby4499 5 месяцев назад +1

I agree with the need to expedite resolving the V3 Atto 3 compatibility issue, this is the only reason I will be looking at Tesla for my next vehicle as no proactive action from BYD for over 6 months very poor support in this vital area for regional travel I feel.

I had a car that could do 5km increments if you held the switch and 1km for a single press. Id like that.
Speedo is 3km/h slow so the 5km increments is annoying.

More choice of Pedestrian safety sounds.

Super happy with my Atto3, but as you say it can be made better! Some suggestions/comments:
App: I would like to be able to change charge settings from the app.
Cruise control: when turning it on after turning off it should return to the previously set speed, not 30 km/h. What I am doing is disconnecting it by tapping the brake, so it remembers.
Cruise control increments: I hate the 5 km/h increments. It should be a user option of 1/2/5 km/h.
One pedal driving: I have used it in a Tesla and it is brilliant. I can fake 80% of it using high regeneration, but not the last bit coming to zero speed.
Android auto: it takes over by default and I find myself manually going back to the BYD home screen all the time. I would like to be able to go to Android Auto when I want to, not by default.
Dashboard brightness: the size does not bother me much, but the items in green are very hard to see much of the time. Adjusting brightness or changing colours should be an option. I have bought shade (originally for GPS screens), with marginal improvement.
Automatic wipers: it would be nice, but there are no windscreen sensors. Could they be retrofitted and work with a software update?
Range: on one of the updates they said they had introduced dynamic range, but it is equally useless. It is a super straight calculation to extrapolate it out of actual usage of the last 50km or so as you said.
Air conditioning temperature setting: sometimes, randomly, changes by itself to 26 deg.
When on Intelligent Cruise Control and it loses sight of road markings, the only notification is the change in colour from green to grey on the steering wheel symbol on the dash, very difficult to see and it leaves you to find out, mostly when it is not keeping you within the lane. There should be a more visible notification like "ICC not operational" when that happens.
Onboard navigation: it would be nice to get a scale on the maps.

The Seal software was updated quite recently and it is almost perfect. Beeping sounds have been lowered in volume.
ADAS is now terrific and doesn't need turning off.
One thing that could use refining is the traffic sign scanning/speed warning that resets each drive which can be annoying when the car doesn't scan the correct speed signs.
Air conditioner settings also aren't remembered.

LOVE my Atto 3, can't think of much I don't like about it. Maybe the lane keeping forgets to work sometimes over long trips, but over all it makes driving long distance a LOT less tiring combined with the cruise control.

  • @Paul-ow9dd

Ian, I use the BYD phone app as a key sometimes when I use the wife's Atto 3. It works fine. I unlock and drive away without needing the key fob.
The app support is pretty (very) lame. You can't use the web browser with the built-in data SIM. Have to connect to wifi to browse anything. I wish I could easily use a different web browser than the proprietary one - whatever brand that is? Edge, Firefox and Chrome support would be fine. Personally, I prefer MS Edge, but I know most probably don't.
One pedal driving with a slider control from no regen to full one pedal mode. Great for disc pad life as well.
Better and larger fonts and colours on the driver display. It's hard to see the cruise control speed. Also being able to set the driver display to dark mode and leave the main screen on light screen. Currently the driver display is very poor and hard to read relevant information. The background colour is BAD!
Temperature displayed on the main screen in similar sized font to the clock. Nearly impossible to read on the driver display. Passengers need to be able to see the temp.
Yes, the range display is VERY inaccurate. But it should also be displayed on the main screen. There is a lot of wasted real estate on that screen.
