I’ve got the Dorset Divide ultra in July and over a 48 hour event it would be so awesome to not need charging 😮 Thanks for the great video, keep up the hard work 🙂
As a student who dreams of being a professional cyclist, winning a Garmin Edge 540 840 Solar mean alot to me. Cycling is not just a hobby for me, it's a passion, I used to think that i am an endurance rider but now with that I try to do some racing. Stats are important for training and the only stats I can record now are thee avg, speed and distance this Garmin head unit would help me in getting more data and help me to improve, I come from a humble background, and I cannot afford to buy a device like this on my own. Winning it would be a dream come true, Thank you!
started cycling just under two years ago, and you're one of the first people/channels i watched back then. your rides and vibe has inspired me so much that my main goal as a cyclist is to be an ultra endurance rider in the future (no time nor money right now as i'm still a student). the only places i've ridden so far are cycling spots that we could ride laps in and just a couple of mountains that i go to with my friend and his dad as i'm not familiar with the routes. i'd love to conquer famous loops here where i live such as a 200k loop around a massive lake and do a multi day trip from home to across the island and visit the highest point in my country's highway system, and having a computer with gps capabilities would definitely help especially as i like to ride solo a lot. that solar feature would be perfect too as i live in a very sunny tropical country lol. love what you do and please don't stop!
The Garmin Edge 840 Solar would be an absolute game-changer for me as I prepare to take on the grueling Hotter than Hell 100 in August. I've been tirelessly training for this event all year, and with the 840, I'd be able to track my progress in real-time, stay on course with precision navigation, and ensure I'm properly fueled and hydrated with advanced performance metrics. Winning this incredible device would not only help me achieve my personal best but also inspire others to take on their own challenges with confidence and determination. Thank you for the opportunity to share my passion and dedication!
Just getting into cycling at 64 and 61, we are planning a short bike packing trip in June from Cambridge to Hunstanton, not a massive distance, but a challenge nonetheless, my wife had a brain tumour removed the day after her 56th birthday in 2018, and exercise has been a very important part of her rehabilitation, we found your channel a while back, and have gained some really useful tips and information through it, thank you!
This year my wife and I (we are retired and live in Minnesota, USA) will be bike camping in Denmark with our friends from Sweden and their two girls. Last year we started going on bike club rides several days a week. Boosting our fitness is a goal for both of us. I have always owned Garmin GPS units for our cars. I want to get a Garmin bike computer because I think we should save our phone battery life for uses other than navigation. I was very impressed with the built-in features you highlighted in the video, like bike shop locations, for example. We might not need the Climb Pro in Denmark (!), but later it will be very useful on tours here in the US.
I’m coming up on my 60th birthday. After my hip replacement, I started back riding with my Doctor ‘s encouragement . Cycling aided my recovery in a big way. Now I.m aiming for my first century this summer. I ride in the hills and mountains of Colorado and New Mexico. The climbing feature would be helpful for me to achieve my goal by helping my pace my ride!
Great video thanks! I turn 50 in 14 months and am planning to take my first trip to the UK do a Chase the Sun to celebrate. It will be a great adventure and certainly could enhance my training and ride with a Garmin. Keep up the fun videos!
Great video, as always. I am going to be 58 this year and am aiming to do my Audax Super Randoneur by the time I get to 60 years old. I need a faster bike than my touring bike, which is very comfortable, but not the quickest. I am planning to use the coaching feature in my Garmin Edge Explore to get fitter. I just wish I had found Audax riding twenty years ago! Good luck everyone.
I actually purchased 840 solar but I still want to comment not for give-aways. I purchased Wahoo Elemnt after watched one of your old videos. It was my first one and I loved it. It did what you say it would and what I needed it to. It is just that it broke a week before 840 is released. I felt it was fate and went ahead and purchased 840. Your suggestions are always good. Your best purchase suggestion (and my favorite one) to me is 950ml water bottle. It was so low cost and dramatically improved my comfort on riding. Thanks!!
Dear Katie you got me into cycling (still a newbie) got a Ribble CGR on order and got into Zwift too because of you! I’ve signed up for my first ‘race’ in June; a charity ride of 25 miles which I know isn’t a lot but is to me! ❤
Katie I ride locally with multiple clubs weekly and on weekends. I'm planning on doing the Gold Coast and Tour of the Hamptons Centuries. The Climb Pro feature sounds like a great feature for pacing during longer events. I have a used Garmin 510 I received as a gift from a generous friend but the navigation never gives me turn by turn only displays courses the screen is dull even with the backlight on constantly and now the battery life barely gets through a weekend of rides. Either 540 or 840 would be a great upgrade for me. Having the 840 ability to search without having to pull out my phone in a pinch sounds incredible. I love all your adventurous videos, they are entertaining.
Thanks Katie! After getting both my mountain bike and my gravel bike stolen out of my garage last fall, I've decided to go all in with road cycling and got a new bike, which I haven't been able to ride outdoors due to cold wet weather. I'd love a Garmin Edge computer to explore the beautiful St. Croix River bluffs near my home in Minnesota. That auto climb pro would be so nice to help me get better at climbs and kick off my summer of fitness and weight loss. Love your content and am now subscribed! Thanks Again!
Hello Katie. My Edge 1000 died and I have been looking at the 530 or even a Wahoo. Not sure about the buttons so have been looking at a touch screen. And now these new Garmin. Hadn't appreciated all the features, kind of a life coach. Often just free ride so knowing about hills, and being able to get back at some point would be a god send. Looking to have a few trips down to the south coast, either return or until I can ride no more and get a train back, so planned and 'informed' free ride would be great. Solar benefit surprised me but it sounds like a significant plus and removes some of the range anxiety. Thanks for the information and great that somebody will benefit and enjoy these devices.
Hi Katie, I found your channel a few week's .i am a guy who once apon a time used to ride all the time, but life gets in the way with family job. I'm largely over weight tride all the diets and the gym but with know real lasting results, so I with the help and inspiration of all you youtube guys and girls I'm back on the bike short trips to start but keeping it fun! thanks for all your inspiration and efforts, that's why the numbers and info on the garmen would seriously helpful ,keep the crank turning! m😊
I’m doing the 5 Ferries in August! Lots of training now to up my mileage and get nutrition right. The reminders to eat and drink on these units are really interesting and useful - I’ve been looking for ways to remind myself to get the next energy bar eaten, and here’s the solution. Great summary video, thank you.
I’m a big Edge fan: I took a 305 on my LEJoG in 2008 - following a bread crumb trail the whole way. I replaced that with a 510 when it died. Then I got an 830 WHICH WAS BRILLIANT right up until recently when the screen fell off!!! So now I’ve managed to get the 510 back up and running, but boy, is it slow. The 840 looks amazing and as I’m out teaching Bikeability every day for up to 6 hours - I reckon the solar feature will really come into its own. So, I’m saving up! Loving your work Katie x
Great video, thank you. Started road biking from scratch during lockdown and my wife and I have booked LEJOG for August 2024. Exciting and scary at the same time. Training starting now and have been thinking about getting a new Garmin for my wife 😀
Did my first sportive in March only 71km but beat my 4 hour target(slow I know) by 2 seconds. Would be really helpful to have climb pro Katie and I've never won anything in my life. Such inspiring videos, I literally check every day to see if there's a new video up. Keep up the great work and thank you
I cannot believe this video came to me now. I was about to order one from my bike store after I watched you. I dropped my present 840 and broke the screen so I need a replacement. I became a slave to it as I do 12,000 km each year at 78.
I really could do with something like this to show me the right direction and record my progress after returning to cycling after 22 years! Thank you for sharing your story and being an inspiration to get back on the saddle and get my fitness back and the weight down ❤
I love your videos Katie, thank you! I live in Abu Dhabi and have qualified for the UCI Gran Fondo World Championships. I have decided that if I am to go to Scotland in August I need to be the best version of myself possible. I have a coach in the UK and am working hard following my plan. It is not easy for a 70 year old, but I do have plenty of time. To help with my preparation's I plan to return to the UK in early July, a Solar 840 would be great to prepare me for the climbs in the South West and Wales.
I will be riding RAGBRAI for the first time this July - 500 miles across Iowa in 7 days. The training features will help save my butt, so to speak. Whoever gets these units, I'm sure they'll enjoy them as much as your videos. Thanks.🚴
I’m getting back riding after radiation treatment for prostate cancer. Just bought a new-to-me 2017 Specialized S-Works Tarmac, and a new computer would go perfectly with it! Thank you for the opportunity to win one! 🤘🏻👍🏻🔥
Thanks Katie for another very informative video. I have the Garmin Edge 520 plus, great piece of kit, but it doesn’t have climbpro in it. All the cycling I do is guaranteed to have a lot of hills en-route due to living in Scotland. So having one of the new Garmin computers would be great due to being in my 60’s and getting tired quicker now, it is the ideal piece of kit to re-route to get me home quicker. I’m doing 2 off my longest cycles this year. Etape Caledonia and the Ochil 85mile ride. Keep up with the videos, you certainly give great advice to all levels of cyclists 👍🏻
I've had multiple surgeries over the last 7 years. I've gained 50lbs. Just getting back into riding again. I ride a Giant Defy. Would love to have an up to date Garmin. I live on Long Island NY. It's hard to find a good route Lots of traffic. I found your channel three weeks ago, and you have inspired me. Keep up the good work. Looking forward to future videos. Thanks for being you!!
I'm so glad to see these new computers because it meant I got a great deal on my 530. 😅 But what I really wanted to say is thanks for all your past videos. I did my first 200k brevet this last weekend. You're a great inspiration.
Wow. Thanks Katie. Just what I need to navigate the hills when I’m back in the Yorkshire Dales. Grinton Hill and Buttertubs look out. I’m coming after you!
I'm intending on trying to bag my first ever century this year and my Wahoo is dead! One of these would look lovely with my Varia. The thing I love doing is to just cycle blind in to routes I have never been to before and get a bit lost and out of my comfort zone, then use my computer to get me back home. Love the channel, you are inspiring!
Hi Katie! Me and my dad are going on our first bike packing trip this summer in wales! We’re both keen cyclists but have never done multi day trips. He lives abroad so we don’t get to ride much and together! Keep riding 🤙🤙
OHHH it must be amazing using a dedicated tool like a Garmin! ❤ I'm a rookie roadie and I love quiet, rural roads, but my phone often loses signal & a lot of battery %, which makes me feel unsafe especially when I'm riding alone. I can't imagine not having to worry about battery life or locating bike service shops or actually "seeing" the elevation that's coming your way! WHOAAAA! 🌻
Hi Katie, firstly I've done my first Audax after watching one of your videos so thanks for that... This summer I've got 2 main rides, 1 in the Alps with a few mates around Morzine and watching TDF... I may need climb assistant for a few of the rides we have planned. The other ride is from Southampton to Paris and back to Southampton in a weekend... possibly a solo trip as no one else is stupid enough to join me... all for charity😊. Keep up the great work Katie!!
Hey Katie, as a daily commuter on bike for the last couple of years I would love a garmin head unit to make to most of my time on a bike to be able to ride further and faster on fun rides when the family lets me get out on my bike at weekends when I can, I may even end up approaching a decent fitness level and join a club one day. Keep making great content
Getting pulled into gravel by some friends so there are going to be plenty of new roads to explore around home for me. The features of the new Garmin look perfect for exploring new places.
Great video as ever Katie. I currently use a Garmin 130+ and am saving for a 540 so I can give the 130 to my 10 year old son who has revently started coming on short rides with me (he's got up to 11k in one ride so far and it's lovely to see him insterested!) Keep the videos coming
Last year I had just had a serious operation and had to cancel the Mull sportive, based on the beautiful island of Mull (funnily enough). Luckily they allowed me to keep my place for the next event. So, this year, hopefully (fingers crossed) I will be able to cycle the 87 miles and be climbing 2000m of spectacular Scottish scenery. Garmin has always been my go-to gear and has never disappointed. Thanks for great review. I think it is now time for an upgrade 😀
Thanks for the focused review. My upcoming event is the Ride Aroind Mt Rainier in Ine Day. I last did that rode 20 years ago, and I am looking forward to revisiting this cycling event.
Great video explaining these new Garmin devices. I have been following your channel for a while and have finally bought myself my first ever road bike (at age 40!!!). Quite a few items I still need to purchase including a head unit so I can get up and going and start training and getting fitter (hence me watching this video as I was thinking about getting one of these). I have found a lot of useful information on your channel and will continue watching your content, so thank you and keep it up.
My wife and I want to explore new routes not too far from our home (within 2 hours drive). We also just bought gravel bikes so we can include even more places to ride. Good navigation is key in our remote areas. We have been talking about what GPS type computers to buy for these adventures. The Garmin ones look to be the ticket. Adventures await!
I'm technically hopeless and too scared to go exploring in case I have a mechanical and get stranded. I've been watching your videos - I loved your Femme Tour de France one on particular- and you've inspired me to get out and live my best life on the bike. I'd love a Garmin 540 as it would give me the confidence to go outside my comfort zone. The Climb Pro would also take the fear out of hills for me. And knowing where the nearest bike shop is would be so reassuring! Keep inspiring us all to enjoy the great outdoors on two wheels.
I’ve been eyeing up the 840, as my first bike computer. Been so busy with the last year of uni I’ve not had time to ride my bike at all, but when I get the 840, it’ll be a reward for me finishing uni as well as motivation to get out on the bike. Can’t wait haha
I've just gotten back in to cycling this year and am feeling really liberated by how much easier it is to cover medium-long distances since getting a gravel bike (came from a mountain bike background)! It's inspired me to have a go at some bike packing routes this summer. My phone has done okay for day rides but I worry about the battery life on multi day rides I've planned
I recently bought a gravel bike. After taking it for a spin, I felt like a kid again, with the wind in my hair and the sun on my face. Riding the bike feels so good. At times however, I feel I ride the same route over and over again, simply because these are the streets I know. I would love to have the possibility to take rides off my beaten path, and while still being able to find my way home.
Hiya Katie! Great info as always. As I look at my Garmin 520 on the counter before I go for a ride, I think it’s time for an upgrade. We’re I live is pan flat (Houston, TX) but I plan to go to New England in the summer to do some climbing and test my fitness. This is we’re I think the 540/840 will “up my game” by giving me foresight to what suffering is on the horizon verses me looking at a incline and saying to myself, “I’ll have you!” and getting halfway up and question my existence as I make my way to the top (This happened to me Jamaica several times this winter while I was base training up some 7-9% inclines). From the review you’ve given, these devices will up the game of any lucky winner and give you the tingles of a new toy to try out on your bike, everyone loves that feeling!
These devices are capable of so much! Planning to do my first multi-day ride from Oxford to Glasgow this summer. Google maps on my phone just doesn't quite do the job when I'm out on the bike trying to navigate. Thanks for teaching me so much about cycling 🙌🏼
As a new rider I was unsure if I was too new to need something like this but thanks to your very practical guide and daily use examples I can see where these could be lifesavers! Thank you.
Hi Katie, I am going to try my first 100km ride this year, a small goal by your standards but I have only been cycling for 2 and a half years and I am over 50 so even when pushing hard progress is still slow. I am looking at getting a new cycling computer soon as my cheap one is dying, every third ride or so the screen won't turn off and it crashes. This is good info in this video, I was looking at the 530 but the 540 looks like a much better device, even if I don't win your give away I think this is what I will save up for. You can see the cheap (xoss) computer I use in my latest videos if you have the power to watch more than a few seconds, I am more boring than plain white toast and don't talk at all (mostly because I don't have the extra lung capacity). I love your videos as I have also lost a ton of weight (125kg - 70kg) and you are part of my inspiration to keep cycling and stay thin. The battle rages on.
Great video - that solar feature looks ace! I did my first bikepacking trip last year - 2 days by taking a train ride from my hometown, then cycling back! You're right that charging devices on the go is a pain in the ass! My partner and I are targeting a multi-day trip to the Netherlands in the summer, so a solar unit would be awesome! Thanks for all the insights into the new features coming into these units - there's lots to get excited about! :D
I've never trained with any head unit, I didn't really need or want the info to distract me from looking at the view, and I thought I might get obsessed. Just less than a year ago I crashed during an event, and quite badly bashed myself up. Bust my skull, took my shoulder apart and a few other breaks, it could quite easily have been the last thing I ever did. Also wrote off my bike. Since then I've got another bike, and had lots of really amazing physio, and I'm training again to finish the event this year, and I've sort of been forced to be a bit more scientific about my training and recovery to make sure I can measure progress, rather than just by 'feel'. I've been basing it so far on a 40 quid fitness tracker, so a bit of cutting edge technology might help me win it!.......no chance. Progress going well though. Cheers.
Coming from the mountain-biking side, watching all your cycling adventures has inspired me to finally buy my first gravel bike! I'm already loving road cycling and going on longer rides. Can't say I love climbing as much as you (yet) but cycling is fast becoming an obsession of mine! My goal is a 50km ride, and ride every trail in my nearby park by end of summer. Thanks for the videos, keep up the great work!
2 THINGS! 1: 1 would love to have the 840 solar on my handlebars when I roll out of Banff next month for the tour Divide. After all the other expenses a Garmin upgrade from my 530 just didn't make it to the top of the list. 2: If you love hills you really should take a trip out to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania for the Dirty Dozen in October. Most hills are in the 20%+ range with Canton Ave. hitting an insane 38%!
Hi Katie, I'm planning on riding the Fred Whitton next year. one of these head units would help amazingly not only with training but pacing the climbs on the day and reminding me when to eat and drink. Love the channel. Keep up the good work.
Always refreshing to watch your videos, Katie! Very interesting features in these new units! For the moment, I'll stay with my trusty Edge 510, as I've only ridden 5500 km with it and still needs to pay itself 😂😂😂
What I could expect from the unit like that: the whole day battery life for a great adventure and good navigation. I am using the Fenix watch for a navigation, and I have to charge additionally during a ride. The watch is not working with DI2 buttons. Sometimes it’s hard to see where to turn. The turn guidance is too slow - informs about the turn when I turn - delayed. The climb pro function also has a delay on the watch so it is not useful. The Garmin Varia integration is better on the Edge than on the watch. When I used the watch and bike computer in the past, the body battery and intensity minutes were not summarised. Interesting potentially new functions for me: stamina, navigation with arrows to show the direction, possibility to manage lights.
You, dear Katie, inspired me to go buy a endurance bike, only 2 weeks ago. Thank you for that. Soon I will want to go on longer rides and I am certainly looking for a Garmin to keep me on track:)
We always enjoy your videos 👍🏼 my wife Jennie has recently got into road bikes and is planning on doing her first gran fondo event. So proud of what she’s achieved, going from not even being able to look up at a climb to loving it and wanting to challenge herself. Really think the Garmin and it’s new features would enhance her riding. Thanks Katie and keep up the good work!
That is awesome she is signed up and great she has such a supportive hubby. Well.. it's her lucky day... I would love Jennie to have the 840! Email me hello@ilkemountains.cc or message me on Instagram and will get it sent out to you :) xx
Being a 40 year old dad. I want to get fit for my family. I have a mountainbike for cycling. This will help me in my journey to a healthier life. Thank you very much. Cheers.
Loved! 10:15 I watched all the channels and your overview was the best, just you experience with the unit! I actually understood it all lol Garmin needs to use your video!!
Great video! Was originally interested in a wahoo, but am now sold on a Garmin. I’ve made it my goal to ride a 100 mile Gran Fondo before I turn 50, so I’ve signed up for the Gran Fondo New York. Problem is I need the bike, the shoes, the indoor trainer, the power meter, and the head unit!! The 840 is top of my list
Hello from Munich! Great info on these units. My friend and me are going to be cycling from the most southern point of Germany (Scharnitz in Austria) to the danish border. Approx 1000km in 7 days. A Garmin head unit with those features would be amazing. Thanks and keep up the amazing content. Cheers
Really useful review, thank you. New to trialthon and training for my first event on 7th June. One of these computers would really enhanced my training for this event and beyond!
My current setup requires a lot of nursing with battery packs for longer rides. The addition of solar would make for longer trips to bike camping destinations over the summer with my son.
thanks for the chance to win! i can't afford a cycling computer and my phone battery doesn't last very long at all so i often just wing it and keep to routes i know but i'd love to be able to be more adventurous on my gravel rides and finally do some bikepacking. i have a few dream multi-day trips i'd love to attempt! love your videos, you and your story were the main inspiration for me to buy a "real" bike last year so thank you very much, it's been life changing! ❤❤❤ i'm also coming back from illness so being able to see progress metrics etc. would be fantastic! 🤞🏼🤞🏼
I'd bloody love the 540 as my 520 Edge struggles to hold charge these days and I'm utterly rubbish at navigation and I think this would also help me when I start bikepacking😊
I thought about getting a bike computer for aaaages, before i pulled the trigger. I have an old unite that i use almost every day commuting to work. I enjoy recording my rides and following routs on my little head unite as well as seeing how fast i peddle, my HR and I recently invested in a power meter - but the main purpose my bike computer serves is to make sure I get to places on time. My commute is 24km each way. This winter it was super important to see my HR, because i know exactly what numbers I need to get myself to to stay warm on the bike, and I am just a little bit under, I'll arrive with ice cold feet and stiff fingers. I don't own anything fancy like a Garmin Edge 540 or 840. Compared to how much I use my bike computer (4-6 days a week) - i really did overthink buying it. I was not sure whether or not I was gonna get a lot of use out of it :D
I’m aiming to do the LEL in August 2025 before my 60th birthday. Everything that I’m doing between now and then is aimed at the LEL. I’m currently building up my distance and doing some yoga and strength training. I’ve been looking at the Solar Garmins as they seem like the ideal solution for Audax rides. Thanks Katie for this review! Very interesting.
Well, this is just great timing! I just broke my wahoo in the rain cycling from Bristol to London. So one of these would be great for Wales in a day in July as I have no idea where I'm going, and using my phone is not ideal.
Hey Katie, I am training for the Seattle to Portland (330 KM) ride this summer which will triple my longest ride ever. Watching you take on your long-distance adventures inspires and gives me confidence that I can pull it off. Thanks!
Thanks for the ‘real world’ review and tips! These make my Wahoo Roam feel antiquated! These would be great for some Alpine / High Country gravel day rides I plan here in Victoria m, Australia. The Climb Pro feature would be a God send!!!
Agree on not needing to upgrade every time a company releases a new version. But now my ol' 530 is having issues, might be time to upgrade to the 840 solar. Thanks for sharing your review!
At 55 I am taking on a huge challenge in November, a double century. I have raced many 100+km races over the years but this would be quite a stretch for me. A great cycle computer would make a real difference to my prep. 👌🏻👌🏻
Informative video, thank you. I have an older Garmin 520 and pondering replacing it. Been considering all options - Garmin, Wahoo, Karoo ect. pretty much down to Garmin 540 or 840 and on the fence about the solar option. I use the computer regularly for speed and cadence and for occasional navigation. I also have it paired with Shimano Di2 which is great and allows you to control the device using your D fly at the levers and keeps your hands off the computer. I think Karoo (now owned by Sram) no longer enables this feature, and put themselves out of the running for my use. I suspect both 540/840 devices have far more capabilities than I am looking for or will use. However, I think your sentiment that these devices can be used by pros to recreational enthusiasts pretty much nailed it. I am encouraged by the climb pro feature and will give the a slight edge to the 840 for having ability to enter an address and map a route over the 540.
Ahhhh id love either a 540 or 840! Ive always wanted a cycling computer but ive just used my watch to track my exercises. If i had a GPS i would be able to comfortably (because of mapping and gps) accomplish my first metric century! Im also a really slow rider being a bit heavier so the nice battery with solar would be amazing! Love the content katie!
I use an 830 but would LOVE an 840, My dream is to some day be able to make long multi day rides. I have been very out of shape for years, heavy drinker and smoker. Getting my new bikes helped me stop drinking and stop smoking but the chemicals and lack of ambition took it's toll. I made a 22 miles ride the other day and it was one of the hardest things I have ever done. Soon I hope to make it 100 miles. I have set a goal to some day ride from my house in Northern California to Nevada and back over a few days time.
Hi there, I don't know what happened but I was ready to pull the trigger buying the Wahoo element roam and you just completely changed my mind Thank you so much
I going to do RAGBRAI the last week of July - 500 miles in 7 days with my brother-in-law and his dad. I’m hoping I will be able to do the whole thing. I was in great shape, but had a bad bicycle accident in December and have just started back to training. I would love the solar so I don’t have to worry so much about charging.
I love that they are solar. This makes so much sense. I would use one of those to keep up with my goal of riding every Damn day and getting in (outdoor) rides every single month this year. And keeping up with my weight loss and healthy journey.
Thank you for this. Really informative without muddling my head with lots of technical stuff. Didn't even know these units could do half the things you mentioned! As a complete newbie to road cycling I'll have to pick one up just to track my progress and work towards my first 50k ride!
Hi there, my doughter is just stating to ride more seriously so I would give this to her to be more motivated and could record her trips and performance. Thanks also for your book and inspirational videos. Great day cheers
Katie, thanks for the well thought out video on these devices. You mentioned features that I had not heard of yet. I am planning a 144k ride in my area in August along a converted railway here in Oregon. I would be lovely to have a device to track my progress and plan training. This is my 2nd year back on a bike after a long absence, and I hope to push my distances. I'm currently at 56k. Thanks for the video.
Thank you katie!! This was great!! I would love the feature to eat alerts. The excitement of riding makes me forget to fuel up. I would love to use it to save some battery life on my phone.
I live in regional NSW which involves long rides hilly rides. I'd love to explore new trails/roads, but I've been reluctant to for fear of getting lost on the back roads. One of these units would give me the confidence to get out and explore without the apprehension, plus I would love the ClimbPro feature for looking ahead for the climbs and on the climbs themselves. I ride 3-4 days a week up to 200km ... I'm turning 65 on the 7th May and one of these Garmin devices would make my ride mates very envious ... Bonus 😁 Thanks Katie, great info video 🤞 PS ... I'm an old Manchester boy ... give me a bit more time and I'm sure I can come up with more emotional blackmail.
Thanks Katie for creating this video. I enjoyed hearing about the new features for both units. My previous bike computer has frustrated me on every ride. We're not friends anymore because it seems to have a mind of its own. Anytime I unintentionally take a wrong turn it does not get me back on track quick enough forcing pull out my phone and use various GPS apps to find out where I am and where I need to go. Then battery life on my phone is further diminished causing me to get nervous. I believe Garmin's new 840 would the answer I'm looking for. I do not want to switch to Garmin's competitors as I already enjoying using a Garmin Fenix smart watch and various cycling sensors. Fingers crossed I can be the lucky recipient of either unit.
Been using these devices all of my cycling career and I love the 840 solar I ride every single day
I’ve got the Dorset Divide ultra in July and over a 48 hour event it would be so awesome to not need charging 😮 Thanks for the great video, keep up the hard work 🙂
As a student who dreams of being a professional cyclist, winning a Garmin Edge 540 840 Solar mean alot to me.
Amazing!!!!! :) Have a great ride!
Good luck Andy. The route comes past my house and I'm supporting some friends who are riding it in June with food etc. Hope you enjoy your ride 🙂
I’m a big Edge fan:
I took a 305 on my LEJoG in 2008 - following a bread crumb trail the whole way.
Thanks.🚴
I just bought the 840 Non Solar. Very happy with it. Especially dI2 visuals. Pairs quickly and Wi-Fi works great.
But what I really wanted to say is thanks for all your past videos.
Absolutely love your channel, haven’t been cycling in Majorca since the pandemic, can’t wait to get back to Sa Batalla this year, my fav climb ☺️
Really enjoying the channel Kate. Taking a friend on the C2C, there and back, later in June. Some new tech would be amazing 😀
Enjoy your channel and honest reviews. Love the climb feature and look forward to having doing 100miles on the Ring of Kerry in July.
Thanks for the opportunity. Bikepacking and route planning for longer day rides would be amazing if I won one of these
Yea I live the free ride climb alert feature. The event training planner sounds awesome! Gotta check it out.
As a new rider I was unsure if I was too new to need something like this but thanks to your very practical guide and daily use examples I can see where these could be lifesavers! Thank you.
Been using Garmin wearables for years and years and never got round to a cycling Edge. Now's the time...... 840 does look good.
I always chose Garmin over other products. It nevers disappoints. Their customer service is second to none.
Brilliant video, thank you. I have a Wahoo Bolt at present. I am riding from Calais to Marseille in August and the Garmin would be ideal for that.
@@KatieKookaburra This is amazing, thank you so much! 👍🏼❤️
New to the channel and exploring getting a Garmin. Nice to hear about some features I didn’t realise Garmin offered. 👍
A great overview. I’ve been using a Wahoo Roam V1 and tempted to get the 840 for all the training and fitness insights that it offers. Thanks again.
Great video. Cycling seven years. Never used a bike computer. Will use it for the Ring of Beara in Kerry.👍
At 65 never thought till now I need a garmin but I can the benefits by pre planing my rides, saves me getting lost.
i'm also coming back from illness so being able to see progress metrics etc. would be fantastic!
I’m planning a cycling holiday around the hills of the Costa Blanca. ClimbPro would be a game changer. Keep up the good work on the vids Katie! 👍
Wow, this would definitely come in handy when we do over to the Isle of Wight next month ❤
I'm going to do the Camino de Santiago this summer. Love your channel, keep up the positive vibes! ✌️❤️🚲
Hi there,
I don't know what happened but I was ready to pull the trigger buying the Wahoo element roam and you just completely changed my mind
Thank you so much
I going to do RAGBRAI the last week of July - 500 miles in 7 days with my brother-in-law and his dad.
