This challenge has been so exciting and I plan to continue through February. My no spend month also includes Dry January. I have been using up food from pantry and freezer, only buying necessities and not using my credit card, I don't even have it in my wallet. I like to shop from home, using or rearranging items instead of buying new. You would be surprised how good that makes you feel.
Hope you feel better. My dr. told me several years ago that cold meds do not make you well they only relieve symptoms. He said to only take something at night so you can sleep. He said Nyquil ( and like meds) can actually harden mucous and can cause pneumonia. He also said rest helps the body heal. He said if you take a couple days off to rest, your body heals much quicker. I hope you feel better soon!!!!!!!
I got off track from your channel and came bac just in time for the No Spend January. I did spend 3-4 X's for black coffee, and a couple of times for lunch on the road. But, I decided not to shame myself for it, and kept going. Overall, I know that I have saved so much money and worry, just because I was focused on the No Spend January. When a spend impulse came up, I said "nope I'm not doing that" and I immediately felt a sense of calm because I was doing it for myself and protecting myself in a way. The feeling of not throwing money away and keeping it in my account is really good! Thank you Kate!
I love that you did the video like this. We are all human and we always try to put on the best face. And sometimes you just have to be real and say….”I’m having a rough time.” I think perfection is showing how we’re not perfect.
My low spend is going well. I have stuck to my goals for groceries ($100) and household expenses ($100) so far. I spent $20 on eating out that wasn't planned, but I avoided lots of opportunities to pick up snacks/meals.
In December I began a fiber art biz and quickly realized I am a yarnaholic. I am pretty frugal already (no eating out, meals at home, no outside paid entertainment) so I cut back on food and the killer was using what yarn I had. UGH!! This is my first no spend month. I am excited to see my bank account grow. I am an oil of oregano (antibiotic, antiviral, antibacterial) and elderberry syrup for congestion Get well soon 🙏🙏🙏🙏❤️❤️❤️
I am actually doing better on No Spend than I thought I would. It has helped that we’ve had two big snow storms come through so that limited my travel. I’ve stayed off Amazon except for purchasing an infant carrier for my first great grandchild that will be here soon. We have not eaten out or gotten takeout a single time. I did buy some candy with the regular groceries - raising a grandson who has a sweet tooth - but I’ve done well in reviewing the grocery orders and removing things I don’t need prior to placing the order. Thanks for your help and hope you enjoy your day of “nothing”.
I started putting anything on Amazon or ordering on a 24 hour hold and have bought very little. So cool! I will continue that forever! I hate drive thrus, but I do grab some ( on sale) frozen easy things, but also ate mainly from my pantry and freezer. Thanks for all your great ideas!🎉🎉🎉 Feel better!
I feel you! I’m working a pt job, running my photography business, working in a personal training certification course, working on taxes, teaching Woodshop at our co-op, on top of the usual cleaning, cooking, taxiing kids places. 😅 I’ve not done too great on no-spend January. We like to go thrifting and I’ve bought a few things there. 😬
Nothing says your Christmas tree has to come down at a certain time. Mine is still up and isn't coming down until the End of Feb. We still have a grandson to have Christmas with so the tree and his stocking are still up!
Dear Future Kate. Please replay this video before you book your time and energy. Preventing running yourself into the ground is something you're wanting to improve on. Rest, recharge and restore are important. Look after yourself 😊
I'm doing so much better than I expected to. I haven't done great. I know I bought a couple things that wasn't necessary, but over all I've done really well. I'm hoping to continue through the year.
Same here!! I have hardly bought anything that I haven’t really thought through which is definitely different for me lol! It’s been a little eye opening too 😊
This is my first no spend / low spend January. My husband has been so good about it. He usually is the biggest spender. I took your advice about the buffer in our checking account several months back, and you are so right about less stress. That in itself has made this month successful. Thanks for all your advice!
You CAN have a zero based budget and buffers. If you're head over heels in debt, it is probably wiser to have a smaller buffer and bigger debt payments; especially if you're struggling with the minimums or paying 30%-40% interest. All you need to do is allocate the dollars to "buffer" or "rollover" in the per pay or monthly zero based budget. For a variety of reasons, Dave Ramsey discourages buffers and rollovers in the beginning steps of the debt journey; one of which is that they can be used for wanting spending by some. I like, haven't always had, enough of a buffer to truly bare bones get through 2 weeks.
I had not been tracking my eating out & misc spending until December when I realized my spending was getting out of control & I was justifying it, thinking I had plenty of extra money to buy whatever I wanted every month, but I got to the point where I realized I wasn't prioritizing my savings like I used to & decided to find out where I could cut my budget & realized I can cut out at least $500 to $600 a month by cutting eating out & all types of spending that I've been doing besides paying bills. Suddenly, I've been able to pretty much meet my savings goals! Yay for No Spend January! 😊
Take care of yourself Kate. I like the Budget Buffer idea, too. It is less stressful knowing I have a money cushion in my checking account. Still working to increase it. No Spend January going well after a few bumps...one which I could have done without.
Missed the live. WOW - what a great opportunity for Kaden! Our children's big events are priceless. Please take care of yourself Kate! I know you work hard. Stay home for a day and cuddle with your cats. My no spend has been more like a low spend. It seems like a lot of rarely need to buy household items hit this month. I bought a new plant in December and it had gnats!!! It took me a while to figure out which plant was the culprit. Needed gnat killer stuff, for example. Its the little things that get me :-).
February will have to be my no spend month. I’m snowed in for 3 weeks. A busted water pipe flooded my kitchen, living room and basement. Since I have little-to-no heat. I spent $ on online products to try to build a heater. This is the norm for me in winter. I look forward to trying again in February. I look forward in trying each month thereafter. The money I’ll save, will fix my broken pipe(s). Tribulations/adversities teach me to be stronger, more resourceful, think outside the box and take difficulties on as a new challenge. Ty for your lifeline of wonderful encouragement:)
Hi Kate hope you feel better soon and enjoy your day off. I made two unnecessary purchases but am no trying to remember not to buy, but 28 out of hopefully 31 no spend days is still a great improvement, that I am proud of. 😊
Take care of you. We got hit with4 inches of snow a few days ago. Now remember I live at the beach in north Carolina. The town is still pretty shut down . Overspent on groceries to prepare but no grocery shopping today so it's ok. Rest tomorrow. This gramma loves you
Learned my lesson the hard way and now I have issues that will probably stay around forever. My husband was getting an award in Washington DC and I flew there with bronchitis and then contracted covid. I have no memory of getting home and I have lung problems and ear canal issues and lost my hearing in one ear. And that was last January. I never stopped from Halloween until we got home from dc and I feel like I still haven’t recovered and it’s been 12 months.
there's a lesson to be learned here, Kate. all the frugality in the world will not serve us if it is at the expense of our health and well-being. No spend January has been great, planning on doing February, too. please care for yourself each day, not only when push comes to shove and you are really hurting. Amazon had been my downfall and I am now contemplating not renewing my prime membership. wishing you a speeding recovery and, perhaps, a re-evaluation of how much work is too much work. God Bless you and Kaden!
This challenge has been a eye opener. I noticed a lot of time where i would spend because of stress or emotion. I have had to stay away from certain stores and only carried certain cards and cash. This was a little harder than i thought.
I had 3 no spent days. We had freezing weather and stayed home. Rested, did some reading, and some housework, but I also focused on my health, food, taking vitamins, walking, and exercising.
Hope you’re feeling better!! Since I was a child I gargle with a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar in warm water and eat a teaspoon of honey. Really helps a sore throat, Vicks Vaporub, Coldeez lessens a cold. Saline nasal spray helps keep colds at bay also.
I make homemade chicken soup in the crockpot with some kale, potatoes, carrots, leeks and garlic. Then I also do lots of Vitamin C and honey lemon hot drinks or hot tea every hour of the first 2 days of my cold. Also sleep better if you can take Tylenol Cold.
I made 23 "No spend" days out of 25 days. These self watering garden pots went on a great sale at two diffrent stores so I purchased them. The small ones will be indoors herb gardens and the big ones will be added to outdoor garden. This help me realize how much I actual spent on groceries. Now, I am doing menu planning. I have decided to do "No Spend Month" quarterly.
So happy for Kaden that he got that opportunity! I am sure momma bear was very proud 🙂 Please take care of yourself. I know that I would rather get less videos from you than no videos from you! Edited to add that I am very thankful for my BIL giving me his old Keurig. Something is wrong with mine and the coffee doesn't come out correctly (watered flavored coffee) and I was able to switch to the back up and not worry about that expense 🙂
How cool for Kaden and you! Mydaughter went to a magnet performing school in ATL and we had so many heavy talents come out of there! But you got SNOW too in the south?! Stay safe and snuggle in this weekend! ❤
Sorry I missed your live watching now I want you to get plenty of rest make some soup and chill out when all your school functions are done my sons birthday is Feb 3rd he'll be 34❤ good job Kaden proud of you buddy❤❤❤
Anything that could go wrong is going wrong. Thank goodness we cut eating out so we had a cushion without going into savings. I am going to try again in Feb.
Good morning. Winter has been a ruff one sickness lost a dear friend, brother in law told has cancer we are trying to be emotional support and whatever else and my Dad will be 85 in a few days and has been in pain for all but 2 mos. Medical field a mess. Ruff winter. But a good thing sticking to the no spend. Happy weekend!
Take care of yourself, Kate. I hope you're able to rest and are feeling better soon. I only spent $50 of discretionary money this month and got take out once (because I just wasn't feeling like cooking). I'm planning to carry the low/no spend into Feb and maybe March to work on using up and enjoying what I have.
Hi, fairly new listener here! I started tracking my spending in December and will compare once January is over. In February my divorce is 1 year finalized. I was debt free before all that but it really takes a hit on your finances! I moved and bought a tiny house that I'm still in the process of finishing. Just paid off 2 credit cards! Almost no take out anymore, no more Amazon ( locked that account) and no more thrift stores shopping! Take out was hard to pull back on because I have a 6 year old boy who's always hungry! So my solution is a Tupperware type bin I keep in the car with snacks, water and protein drinks, many from $ stores. Sure not the best but better than what you think if your careful and no worse than fast food!
Hi Kate, I got covid too. Day 3. Feels like a flu, not too bad. Please look after yourself!!! Didn’t spend anything this month, just groceries and bills. Very proud of it!!! It feels like it could become a habit. I’m more aware about my spending habits now! Thank YOU! Pleas rest up! Greetings from Sydney 🐨 Andrea
Hi! Kate, So sorry I missed the live but I hit burnout myself yesterday and had to take off from work and rest.. WE have to remember how important SELF-CARE is😊😊PLEASE rest on your day off ❤
I saw your video in december and thought I can control spending I was going well in january as it was first time experience and six appliance gave up together and cannot be repair as the company discontinue and cannot be repaired we had to order new what a rough start for new year we have to pull from saving
I couldn't get on here until now because my day was nuts. By this time, you're either done or almost done with the last day. I hope you have a wonderful day of rest tomorrow. Thank you for taking time with us. I hope you know how much you mean to your squad! I found myself telling my husband about your crazy schedule and Covid, etc, as if you were a cousin or neighbor! ❤
I just got my credit card statements and there was a LOT of charges from December. I think I’ll see the results of No Spend next month when those credit card balances are so low!!
Missed the live stream but I’m here for the replay. Lying in bed fighting a cold this morning. Not spending per se, just treading water momentarily. Ate breakfast and I’ll head out for groceries later.
Hope you feel better soon! My no spend is going well. We were dashing, not in the snow, three times minimum a week and so far this month we’ve only done it twice! The goal is to stop completely because I genuinely want to hone in on my cooking skills. I took a week off and did nothing because EOY was extremely busy and stressful. It helped me determine what I need to delegate and I plan on making rest a priority this year. I hope you do that for yourself! Rest!
Hi ~ this is my 1st No Buy January! I am 60 and I plan to retire when I turn 64 (I am going to start receiving my SS when I turn 62 and continue to work fulltime until I turn 64) . I have credit card debt and a 2023 car to pay off. I want all of that paid off when I retire. I am allowing myself $10 per week for discretionary spending. So far I have been successful and it feels really good. Unfortunately, last year I discovered Klarna and Affirm and used both of them alot buying for Christmas. I managed to get Klarna paid off this month and plan to double up on my Affirm payments when I can. I plan to continue the No Buy for this year. Thank you for your channel. I hope you get well and have some time to rest and recover.
Oh... goodness. Relaxation vibes coming your way! I hope you can find real space to just be in your home with your sweet boy and, of course, with some serious fuzz therapy.
Tea with lemon and honey is comforting but a shot of Maker’s Mark in that is way better. Couple of those and you’ll be feeling finer than a frog hair split four ways!!
I took a friend and then my Aunt to a late lunch. My Aunt had shoulder surgery and it's better healing so she wanted a solar wind chime so it was the last one so I got it for her. She was so happy
Hi Kate! You are in my prayers. hope you get to feeling better soon. I am doing well with no spend January. haven't spent any money except on necessities after celebrating my Mom's birthday on the 14 th. Have been staying at home. Staying off of Amazon .
Take care of yourself. Congratulations on your son’s event in Atlanta. My no spend was going great. My spending on Amazon went from about $200 a month to $0 this month. I took all the money I didn’t spend and donated it. My new goal is zero spend for February all thanks to you ❤
I really only get sick once every 5 years .an when I do I make sure I have some time like 2 days I take a hot bath an then go to bed an sleep. I know this sounds strange but taking the bath makes the sickness for me peak then I sweat it all out an the next day I'm just about perfect again. But I just rest. Plz just try it.😊 Also try some elderberry syrup
Steam showers / face steams if head cold / chicken noodle soup / echinacea tea with raw honey, fresh lemon and fresh ginger / lots of rest & sleep (prioritize over cleaning and other stuff once work is done if I need to work)
In my older age I am trying to learn to manage my energy more frugally like my money. I feel that I had some decades in continual motion- all the things all the time all at once. If I were a tree you could read my rings and tell the difference in how I lived those years compared to now.
Break a leg Hope you start to feel better very soon 😊 My condolences Lauren Did great with no spend, didn't get to save the money to my emergency fund as planned, ended up with very expensive doctor bill that I needed to pay.
Still using Amazon, but that hasn’t been a problem before. It is where I can find hard to find items. My biggest eye opener was my grocery shopping. Honey really works on coughs. My pediatricians push it
Enjoying your channel…very motivating…I’m a healthy 77 and still have my business… I stopped buying non-essentials at Trader Joe’s…saved a lot.. I’m already pretty frugal…
WAY TO GO LIZ!!!!!!!
Zicam is excellent at shortening the common cold and in some cases, the nasal swabs will prevent it.
We missed you, but I'm glad you're trying to take care of yourself. I'm so happy for you having NOTHING to do tomorrow!

I’m debating just decorating the tree for Valentines. Why has January felt like 5000 things are happening all at once? I’m exhausted.
SO TRUE!
I love that you did the video like this. We are all human and we always try to put on the best face. And sometimes you just have to be real and say….”I’m having a rough time.” I think perfection is showing how we’re not perfect.
Thank you Jax!!!!
Don’t apologize for living your life outside of RUclips always remember self care😊 my low spend has been up & down this month, but not giving up❤
Thank you Cat 🙏
My low spend is going well. I have stuck to my goals for groceries ($100) and household expenses ($100) so far. I spent $20 on eating out that wasn't planned, but I avoided lots of opportunities to pick up snacks/meals.
In December I began a fiber art biz and quickly realized I am a yarnaholic.
I am pretty frugal already (no eating out, meals at home, no outside paid entertainment) so I cut back on food and the killer was using what yarn I had.
UGH!! This is my first no spend month. I am excited to see my bank account grow.
I am an oil of oregano (antibiotic, antiviral, antibacterial) and elderberry syrup for congestion
Get well soon 🙏🙏🙏🙏❤️❤️❤️
Thank you so much Julie!!!!
Hi Frugal Queen 🤴 please take care of yourself 😮😊get well soon ❤❤❤❤❤
Thank you so much Shelby!
I am actually doing better on No Spend than I thought I would. It has helped that we’ve had two big snow storms come through so that limited my travel. I have garlic infused honey that I make, when I start feeling sick I start taking it. It works!! Praying you feel better soon.
I started putting anything on Amazon or ordering on a 24 hour hold and have bought very little. So cool! I will continue that forever!
I hate drive thrus, but I do grab some ( on sale) frozen easy things, but also ate mainly from my pantry and freezer.
Thanks for all your great ideas!🎉🎉🎉
Feel better!
Sorry I missed the live. I hope you take care of yourself and feel 100% again soon! 💖💖💖

"Nothing"... My fave type of plans!!! 🎉❤
Dear Future Kate. Please replay this video before you book your time and energy. Preventing running yourself into the ground is something you're wanting to improve on. Rest, recharge and restore are important. Look after yourself 😊

Same here!! I have hardly bought anything that I haven’t really thought through which is definitely different for me lol! It’s been a little eye opening too 😊
I sold 2 items that I wasn't using: a camera & an Echo 8. I gave a friend caterer my food processor that I only used once.
Love this!
I’m trying this for the first time in my life. I’m getting through it though. No spend, no alcohol and no sweets.🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉

I got a great deal last week I bought a roast it was 25.00 but got all the fixings free I saved 18.00 since I got 8 items free😊
I just subscribed to your channel and I love cats ❤
@@beverlywight7158 welcome! I’m so glad you’re here🥰
❤praying for you to feel better soon and do the things to keep you healthy. Pay it forward to your future self. Loving the no spend.
I just got my credit card statements and there was a LOT of charges from December. I think I’ll see the results of No Spend next month when those credit card balances are so low!!
I’m so bummed I missed the live! I’m watching now.
Missed the live stream but I’m here for the replay. Lying in bed fighting a cold this morning. Not spending per se, just treading water momentarily. Ate breakfast and I’ll head out for groceries later.
Did good I was able to save some money to help with a couple of snow days with no pay. That money helped with some needed expenses.😃
I also went through my email and unsubscribed from a lot of stores and websites.
Rest!
Get well be well! ❤️
Keep feeling better Kate!🙏🏼My low spend is going well. 🎉 I’ve eaten out less and unexpectedly made a donation with some of the saved money.
Thank you so much! YASSS way to go!
Get well soon my dear. ❤ & Prayers
Thank you so much!
I purchased a used desk with the money I received from selling a canon camera that was 20 years old. Found on FB Marketplace.
Take care❤
Glad to see you again 😊 Feel better 👋🏻
My no spend has been great except for FOOD budget. My sister is also a ground hog baby. 🎉
Awww your sister and I have the same bday! WOOT WOOT!
Steam showers / face steams if head cold / chicken noodle soup / echinacea tea with raw honey, fresh lemon and fresh ginger / lots of rest & sleep (prioritize over cleaning and other stuff once work is done if I need to work)
Happy birthday 🎉🎊 😊❤
Still using Amazon, but that hasn’t been a problem before. It is where I can find hard to find items. My biggest eye opener was my grocery shopping.
In my older age I am trying to learn to manage my energy more frugally like my money. I feel that I had some decades in continual motion- all the things all the time all at once. If I were a tree you could read my rings and tell the difference in how I lived those years compared to now.
I can relate to this!
Woke up late so catching up now. Take care of yourself and be well ❤
Zicam for my colds, also ginger teas and chicken soup. Night quill at night so I can sleep.
Feel better
Sending prayers your way!❤
Sound great thanks for all you do for us
I lost 2 sons in 2018 3 months apart let me tell you it's worse but losing parents hurts too❤
It's been hard but I've been doing it. There are 2 concerts I want to go to but i can't afford it. I had to stop myself.
Happy Friday morning everyone
Break a leg
Hope you start to feel better very soon 😊
My condolences Lauren
Did great with no spend, didn't get to save the money to my emergency fund as planned, ended up with very expensive doctor bill that I needed to pay.
I have made it 23 days! This has been hard, but I’ve successfully. Take care of yourself. Feel better soon.
I put money into spending before I could spend it and sticking to my budget!
