    Thank you so much for this video I was in the exact same position as you when you decided to make this video aka feeling melancholic nostalgia for F-Zero (the GX edition specifically for me it was an unforgettable piece of my childhood) You have given at least 5 video games to check out and watch for a deal on steam sale days. I looked for a top tier list and you delivered fantastically. Kudos my man.

    THIS. This was easily the coolest video you've made this year. You don't often get to not only review a classic series but witness those who sought its success or were inspired by it. Aero GTX is easily the most exciting thing in this but at the same time so many of these games (not all) have these bombastic sound tracks and I can't help but wonder why so many fall. I'm not sure if just due to a lack of advertising or enough for people to eagerly recommend vocally to reach their people. I look forward to the next one you do whatever it is. I hope more people can find your content since I feel like you give a way better impression than most reviewers typically do with ups, downs, or interesting aspects that would catch any player's attention to seek the game out or avoid it.

      Thank you so much, Scott!! Really glad you liked it, as it was also the project I enjoyed making the most so far! Glad its coming through :D. Even if it didnt get big viewership, I will continue to make videos like this as I think they have good potential in the long term. Yeah, Areo GPX is looking fantastic, truly. I think there is only a niche audience for fast racers like these, but they could easily expand it by aking the games a little bit more approachable and advertising it well for a newer audience on the switch, specially. I think its the best time ever for a revival of F-Zero, hope Nintendo is thinking the same! Thanks for watching and leaving this comment, Scott! Appreciate the support!

      @@FromTheVoidGames No problem. I'd say this sleeper video will likely get picked up in about a month or so when say F-Zero gets onto the Online services like SNES and N64. I already knew about Tube Slider long ago.
    However while trying to find Nintendo Characters that are born (lore-wise) in America, have American Style or games that are NA exlusive and/or didn't show up in Japan (....at first) or made by NOA themselves for a project of mine.
    I discovered that the makers of F-Zero Maximum Velocity (NDcube Co., Ltd) are the creators of Tube Slider.
    At the end of the game's credits it states the following:
    "All rights, including the copyrights of this game, senario, music and program, reserved by NDcube"
    NDcube was made by Nintendo, Dentsu, etc in the year 2000
    Tube Slider was originally planned as a F-Zero game by NDcube but ultimately Nintendo didn't seem to like the idea.
    NDcube decided to make it's own F-Zero clone with the help of NEC Interchannel, Ltd
    In the end NDcube became a wholly owned subsidiary of Nintendo in 2010 and then the company was being quickly filled by ex-Hudson Soft workers (You know... the guys that make the Mario Party games)
    So if F-Zero has it bad, Tube Slider will have it worse but then again Nintendo kinda did gave Cruis'n (RIP Midway) a chance, so.......

    • @FromTheVoidGames
      @FromTheVoidGames  2 года назад

      Thats a lot of info I had no idea about. Another viewer also pointed out that the makers of Maximum velocity went on to make Tube Slider, but I had no idea that Tube Slider is basically a Nintendo game. Cool info, Nintendude! Thanks for watching!

I love F-Zero so much so knowing what ones are out there is super useful, although out of the ones I've played so far (mainly Fast RMX), not many of them have been able to capture the exact feel and memorbility of the series, but Aero GPX looks like is could definitely be a close contender because I looks like it took F-Zero X and decided to go off in a different direction compared to GX (even if it's my fav) and make new mechanics that make it look even more manic. Felt I should give my two cents on the some of the titles showcased in this video. (And I'm gonna include if I have, or have not, played them. Which is like... Nearly all of them lol.)
    But in general, I feel like most people seeking to make a "Spiritual successor to F-Zero" lean way to far into the "But mah realism!" and end up making their games control more like wipeout rather than F-Zero. Also a heads up, clicking read more will show you a massive block of text with mostly opinions and thought.. :P
    - Pacer (Haven't played) - Seems a lot slower than F-zero, but as you said, it is more closely related to wipeout. My only real issue is the double dipping the developers did. As it is basically repackaged formula fusion with a different name.
    - Trailblazers (Haven't played) - Seems kind of fun, if for the novelty.
    - Super Pilot (Have played. Wish I didn't.) - 20:45 I honestly feel like you were blinded by the novelty of it even _having_ an editor. As the editor is basically just copying everything F-zero X's editor did. But without really considering what game they were making. And then has a bunch of arbitrary restrictions on top of that. Such as locking a bunch of tools away unless the start and end are connected together, using a first person camera when pretty much all other track editors use orbital cameras. (Though from your footage, it looks like they now have it be conditional to if you have selected a track node? Not sure, it was about 2 years since I played it. And I haven't touched it since then.)
    (Btw, does the drift boost still just completely dissappear if you even dare to stop steering for just a single frame? It was like that when I played and it was infuriating because I obviously stop turning when I wanna unleash my boost. So having it just not work at all felt very unfair.)
    - Tube slider (Haven't played) - Sounds like a peice of garbage. And the Ai straight up cheats, with even the slightest bump from the AI just killing your speed while the AI is completely unaffected.
    - Acid trip (Why would I ever play this!?) - What... Also strong F-zero Pocket vibes of *"I CAN'T SEE SHIT! TILT UP YOU STUPID CAMERA!"*
    - Fast racing (Haven't played) - Like a lot of other games, calling it anti gravity is a stretch. Sure the vehicles hover, but the tracks never really bank themselves beyond 30 degrees. And the phase shifting mechanics seem to have made the level designers worried about putting in any proper corners. Seriously, other than a 90 degree corner the size of american football fields. I haven't found any corner that isn't huge and swooping. Though that might also be because of how the vehicles turn. Or rather, doesn't... Might feel better once you get used to it, but those are still some massive turning circles once you're up to a decent speed.
    - SW:E1R and SW:RR (Haven't played either) - Interesting. Really takes the "Now this is pod racing!" meme to a whole new level. :P Jokes aside, seems to be pretty fun.
    - Redout (Haven't played. But I want to.) - Probably the closest we have to an F-Zero like currently. Even though the controls honestly seem a lot looser than I would like for something claiming to be a spiritual successor to F-zero. Didn't know it had so much air game though, and that certainly peaked my interest.
    - Antigravitator (Haven't played) - So... SplitSecond but in AGR form? Eh.....
    Also the hud being on the vehicle works well when the vehicle is generally in the same place on the screen. (Like in distance, which has all the information on the back of the car.) In this game, well... The vehicle literally nyoooms away from the camera every time you boost... So suddenly your hud said "Bye bye!"
    - Megarace3 (No, never playing this garbage.) - This doesn't even feel like it was coded... It feels like something someone would throw together in a level editor for a completely different game.
    - Voidspeed Outlaws (Haven't played) - Just gonna mention that this game will not sit well with people who easily get motion sick.

    • @FromTheVoidGames
      @FromTheVoidGames  Год назад +1

      Thanks for the thoughtful comment, vulduv! I agree with you in a general sense for sure. Most F-Zero style games, specially the more recent ones, try the super realism graphics, but fail on being even close to as good as F-zero's from 15 years prior. As for specific games,
      I believe Pacer is the same game as Formula Fusion, they changed the name as far as I know/remember.
      I think that betwen the time you played Super Pilot and this video (more than 2 year) they improved the game a lot, the track editor seems better now from your comments, the camera has lots of options, and I believe that they improved the gameplay too, though the drift remains like you said, any bump from other cars or leting go of it for a split second cancels it, it is frustrating I agree.
      Yeah, I agree that the Fast racing games are lacking when it comes to the rollercoaster quality of the tracks. They do have lots of jumps, but not loops and sharp turns.
      Thanks for watching, vulduv! Sorry for the delay in the response.

    • @vulduv
      @vulduv Год назад

      @@FromTheVoidGames Yeah a lot of AGR games seem to take a lot more cues from Wipeout rather than F-Zero. Now there is nothing wrong with that, but damn is it annoying when they are advertised or hailed as spiritual successors to F-Zero. I feel like a lot of people just miss the massive difference between the slower paced but more deliberate handling of the wipeout series. And the faster paced, "The track is trying to murder you" F-Zero. Different qualities for different preferences.
      And great to hear that they changed the level editor! Hopefully there are more improvements to it than I'm aware of. Sad to hear about the drifting still being strict about constantly needing to steer otherwise all your progress is just removed. :/
      And I have noticed the high amounts of jumps in the Fast series. Basically a fast hill climb where you jump off a cliff every other dozen seconds. :P
      But what surprised me with the Fast series, is not the lack of tight turns, that is understandable. But that the track just... Doesn't use the anti gravity nature of it at all. I don't think I have ever seen the track go beyond a 30 degree tilt in those games. (Unless you count the very first one with white and black phase colours that makes you drive on ceilings.)
      Like it would have been really cool too sweep left and right, changing phases to hit as many boost strips as possible, while the track twists 540 degrees above a mountain.
      Only to then become a large jump down towards a completely vertical section of track. Having to pitch upwards to point the nose downwards to land on that section of track before the track bends upwards and shoots you into a tunnel in the side of the mountain you were just twisting above moments before...
      Damn now I wanna make a track like that..... Anyways... The anti gravity part of *Anti Gravity* Racing games allows for much more interesting track layouts. And I really wish it would be taken advantage of more than just a few overbanked turns and the occasional loop. :/

    F zero and Fast Racing are sooooo gooood! Thank you for bringing more attention to them. I’ll have to try the others you mentioned.
    It’s weird how subjective “too hard” can be. I find F-Zeros GX and Maximum Velocity much more fun and easier to play, control, and win at, than the other three games. But I’m aware that most people have an experience with them closer to yours than mine.
    Ironically, F-zero MV is in my top five games of all time, and the same developer (whoever Nintendo outsourced it to) made Tube Slider, my top 5 disappointing games of all time.
    Also, AV, the maker of F Zero GX, also made super monkey ball, which has some great racing tracks.

    • @FromTheVoidGames
      @FromTheVoidGames  2 года назад +1

      Cool, didn't know that the same devs made Maximum Velocity and Tube Slider! Tube Slider had a lot of potential, the game has everything it needed to be great, but they messed up the controls and ruined the game, such a shame. So yeah, I agree its a big disappointment.
      Yeah, I agree that each person will have a different perception of difficulty, should have made more clear that it was just my opinion. The only part I think is truly too hard is the story mode. It took me so many attempts to beat some stages that I bet 99% of the people will have a frustrating experience, removing some of the joy probably. But yeah, everything else is more my opinion than anything else. Thanks for watching, Jason!

      Yeah, I feel like they think there is no way to make them widely appealing, and they may be right... which is a shame. But eveni if thats the cae, they fail to see the importance of keeping these series alive to appeal to the more hardcore audience, since thats the people who influence the more casual audience. I can totally see where you are coming from. In many aspects I completly agree. The overall production value is way higher in GX, its a much more complete game. And even though I highlight the intense difficulty, that is not a factor for me likning X better, its much more about the nit picky stuff, completly my own personal opinion. I realy liked the side dash to kill enemies in X, and in GX its no longer effective, you have to use the spin. Its not a bad choice for the game, but for me personally I prefer X in that aspect, plus they made Bio Rex way too slippery to control, and that was my favorite character, so once again,my personal preference went to X.
